I never expected a legit chocolate store in San Antonio until I walked by and had to give it a try. I tried the iced chocolate. I've always been a fan of iced hot chocolate, and I was really impressed by the dedication put into it. They make hot chocolate and then blend it with pre-frozen hot chocolate cubes from the ice tray. This ensures the consistency and keeps it from being diluted. Super cute store and the iced chocolate was oh so amazing especially on a hot summer 100F+ weather. It did take like 5+ min for them to work out the iced chocolate though, so maybe get something else if you're in a hurry. Make sure to check-in for a free truffle! read more

For me to stay Elite status, I need to dine/shop 11 places a year. I found Schacolad right in my vicinity of activities this weekend. Perfect. So I bookmarked on Yelp. Then, I saw the Yelp offer I couldn't resist. Buy a $10 certificate for $8. Get out. No, come here. That's a steal. Everything here except sugar-free chocolate are made in house. I used to live near a chocolate factory when I was in San Jose. I remember the excitement of eating fresh chocolates. Mmm... Yeah, if I live in San Antonio, I'll be here weekly. I'm not a huge sweets fan, but this place is AWESOME!. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff that explain everything to you. Very forthcoming with the samples too. They have TONS of chocolate candies to offer and also 5 or 6 gelato flavors. We bought a chocolate turtle, chocolate covered s'more, chocolate covered nutter butter (yes, you read that right!), a chocolate dipped oreo, and two scoops of their gelato. This place is literally located across the street from Paris Hatters if you know where that is. I'm not knocking them a star for this but be aware they only have one table and two lounge chairs if you want to hang out there and the pinche tourists usually squat on those for hours lol! I was really impressed with the fact that their young staff had so much knowledge about all the products - you can ask them ANYTHING. I paid a week in advance for a valentines day pickup. I had scheduled a noon pickup time and arrived at 12:15. I still had to wait 20 mins to pick up my order. They had a couple of walk ins that arrived after me that recieved chocolates before I did. They have a good product, but basically fucked me out of my lunch hour due to no fault of mine. Godiva is second rate compared to Schakolad's truffles. We loved them so much that next time we're in San Antonio we will be stopping in to satisfy our chocolate cravings directly. This was the cutest chocolate shop I have ever been in! The customer service is out of this world! And the chocolate so yummy!!

The chocolate here is REALLY good, we've tried most of what they sell. We live in CA so when we're in town it's our top spot to visit. Unfortunately, this time they closed the shop with no notice and no information on the door, their phone line, website, or social media. I know shops close for private events, etc but it's really unprofessional to leave no notice. On the plus side, it forced us to try a new place that's actually a little bit better. I won't be back to this shop as alamo city chocolate factory is going to be our new go to. Its about 15 mins north so if you're ok with the drive then skip this spot, otherwise I think this is prob the best chocolate in the immediate vicinity. read more

While walking around, we stumbled upon this chocolate shop. My son and I picked out 8 pieces for a box and they were all great. My absolute favorite was a toffee piece, the best toffee and caramel I think I've ever had. Chocolate was smooth and delicious. I wanted to go back and get an entire box of their toffee chocolate. Came here during a girls day out with mom, daughter and niece in San Antonio because my sister-in-law LOVES chocolate and toured their other factory in Florida drove 4 1/2 hours to come visit this place! I must say it was actually pretty fun. I especially liked all the creative things that they make out of chocolate and how you can "build your own" box of chocolates. They have such an assortment to choose from: milk, dark, sugar free, nuts and covered fruits. My favorite was the coconut macaroons in dark chocolate. My favorites included the champagne ganache and cheesecake. But try everything!!! The quality is comparable to chocolate from France and Belgium. If you love brands such as Ferrero Rocher, Cote d' or, Lindt, or Catago, you will love the chocolate here. Got their chocolate as a party favor for my wedding at a very reasonable price. I had guests from NY grabbing boxes of chocolate that the other guests did not want. They are that good!!! They can also personalize the chocolate and make logos with the chocolate. So the First Lady I dealt with was super nice. She offered us samples and gelato which we loved on this super hot summer day. And she even helped us pick out chocolate. As we were eating I decided to yelp this place because the service was delightful and this other blond hair young lady comes out. I see on yelp they offer a free truffle with check in. So I check in and show her the offer and she tells me not only is that not her store but that also are not on yelp. But when I picked up a business card it was the exact same address as the listed business. I asked her is this not your store and she immediately told me it was referencing a closed location. We bought a Groupon for the chocolate class and it was so much fun. We got to hand dip our own chocolates and decorate them. They have us a fresh cup of hot cocoa which was delish. They were knowledgeable about chocolate and showed a video on the way chocolate is cultivated. The chocolate has a fine taste and is very rich. The service is wonderful, a very friendly couple owns and runs this local candy store. AND the chocolate is not like the chocolate you can buy at the next convenience store, it is gourmet chocolate with a rich and smooth flavor. It really hits the spot! Literally walked in ready to buy...asked a few questions in a conversational manner " 'schakolad' ...sounds like a French type of chocolate" was met with a bit of an attitude in correcting me "no - it's German..." then a standard brusque narrative of their offerings that were all hand made in store...but said in an indifferent manner. Not horribly rude, but certainly not friendly...and so unfortunate for all of us, as I saw some items I really wanted to buy. I asked a few more questions and rec'd the same semi-rude lackluster response. I continued my positive comments though-unphased: "wow... how cool -a chocolate backgammon board :)"...they couldn't have cared less...so I said to myself "why spend money with those that don't care for your patronage?"...I didn't storm off - I just calmly walked out...one of them did say "thank you" but in a seemingly "buy something next time" tone. Aye-aye-aye...I really wanted to try their dark chocolate almond bars too...but you can't go paying people to treat us like garbage (that's the job given to our spouses/significant-others) --- Updated after the comments by the folks who run the place below: Just read this silly reply ...so let me provide a rebuttal: Much of what you wrote has no basis in reality. First correcting any customer in a rude manner is off the chart ridiculous - and anyone in business knows it. What you stated here was not the issue- I've had many places correct me on info I may have had wrong - but they did so in a friendly, cordial decent, sometimes firm, manner... you didn't do anything close to that ...but more on that in a moment. The most egregious part of your response here isn't that you're not telling the truth about how you acted, but that you are literally saying due to the fact that I'm from New York is the reason I gave you the bad review. The owner was great. We walked in after noticing the Belgian chocolate store up the street was only opened Thursday-Sunday (who does that???). So glad we did though!!! We were in San Antonio recently and got a tour of the Schakolad Chocolate Factory. It was a great experience and lots of fun. Debbie (owner) and Tatiana (chocolatier) couldn't have been nicer! We learned a lot about chocolate and even got to make some of our own creations to take home with us.
