Bexar's Best Belgian Sweets! A little slice of Belgium here in San Antonio. This place is located in a strip shopping center off Huebner. Stepping in, you know that it's legit. Check out all the gilded frames, antique oil paintings, and fancy furniture! This is such a great place to come and relax, hang out and admire the decorations, and enjoy decadent Belgian food. The Belgian waffles are handmade there. They're so good that they could eaten dry, but why do that when they offer Nutella or strawberries. The mousse has been a long favorite of mine. It's rich, smooth, creamy, fulfilling. My only complaint about this place is that they only offer Neuhaus Chocolate as their sole Belgian chocolate. There's so many good ones, but I wish they'd offer Leonidas. It's worth mentioning that the imported Belgian chocolates are the only things that they're serving that they didn't make there on site. read more

We stumbled upon here by mistake but ended up being such a great place! We ate too fast to take pictures ( I wasn't thinking). Highly recommend the cheese cake and ice cream, both were made from scratch in which you're able to taste the authenticity. Owners were super friendly and inviting. OMG amazing!! We stopped in on Friday around 7pm and wanted something sweet. We tried the waffles and I didn't want to stop eating them! I did a "make your own" a waffle with Nutella, strawberries and fresh homemade whipped cream. Trust me, get the whipped cream on whatever you order!! The waffles were so warm and almost caramelized on the outside and warm and fluffy inside! My bother got the La Dame Noire and I'm not a big chocolate person but he said it was incredible! I would highly recommend this place and I can't wait to go back earlier in the day to try their lasagna and other pastries! read more

I won't be back. They are never open. Apparently they don't start waffles until 2:30 when they open at one because they hadn't to prep the yeast. I get it but you open at one. "Well we aren't a waffle place." "Well you are a Belgian place and ten of your menus items are waffles not including the custom ones. We then tried to buy a whole cheesecake for $80. They said no even thought they had three. They also don't have any Belgian chocolates. I had one of their sandwiches a long time ago and it was fine. They were rude and slow then too. I think it's a front for money laundering or something. I'm writing this review while staring at the empty remains of what was an amazing waffle experience that was stacked with bananas, strawberries, whip cream and cinnamon just a few moments ago. Close your eyes , open your mouth and the taste of these waffles will transform you back to Belgium. The shop is small, a few tables and one sofa but you won't need to stay here that long, if you wipe out the dish like we just did. Pictures of the county's historic sites are hanging on the wall which adds to the ambiance. The owner is from Belgian, of course , which is quickly noticeable in the presentation and taste. Will have to try some other dessert dishes once I work off what I just did here. My only suggestion to the owners is instead of adding a small service charge to the order, just adjust your prices to cover this additional amount. Most folks here in Texas are not used to paying for extra charges, unlike what is custom in Europe. Good luck, I hope others find you, so we can come back and indulge ourselves again. read more

Food looks like it might be good but the service was a horrible experience... owner n his wife were serving and at the counter... it was my first time here... I just asked what their fav thing was on the menu... their response "everything good... we make everything fresh" with an attitude., ‍. The wife was flabbergasted with each question... and in a bad mood. It spilled over into the service. Poor lady ... maybe she was just having a hard day? The husband said they were talking in their foreign language about me... I don't know.. maybe they were just both having a bad day. I was asking questions about the menu because it's very European n I'm not familiar with the names of the dishes.... I ordered a dish on the menu n the husband said we don't have that today ... so I ordered coffee. I asked if they could add milk to my Americano coffee order n the wife yelled from the back..." That's not an Americano... that's a latte...". I said "ok"... then make it with milk. Bad service... bad day... didn't get to taste the food... but I'm not going back.... and I threw the coffee away. =============================== As you can tell by the "business owners" response... they are ALWAYS making excuses for their behavior. This is one of our all time favorite places to come. The restaurant decor is beautiful and peaceful! The food is absolutely amazing and you can never go wrong. The owners of this establishment are kind and amazing, we are always greeted with a warm smile and kindness. Stopped by after seeing their sign for baked goods. They have numerous different types of quiche, serve sandwiches and soups and also Belgian waffle creations along with ice cream. One of the best things they have to offer are these Monster Belgian chocolate chip cookies and when I say Monster, they are humongous and loaded with chocolate chips! The cookies are to die for! My son had a spinach and mushroom quiche and he absolutely loved it. The place is small but quaint. They have numerous specialty drinks as well as assorted desserts to offer that change daily. What a great find! I have been visiting the neighboring Physical Therapy for the last couple of months and kept noticing this little shop. Only thing that had stopped me from stopping in is the fact that I was trying to lose a couple of lingering holiday pounds. Today, I decided to check them out. Life is just too short! We went just after 4 pm so the place was pretty empty but their refrigerated case showcased some pretty delicious looking quiche and sweet treats. A second case had Belgium Chocolates. My husband and I decided to share a Belgium waffle with chocolate ice cream and fresh whipped cream. We upgraded our choice with homemade Belgium chocolate ice cream and fresh strawberries. Of course, we couldn't resist the temptation of all the delicious goodies in the refrigerated case so we order a slice of Turkey, Tomato and Cheese Quiche and a few sweet treats to go as well. After waiting a bit (we we're forewarned) for our Belgium Waffle to be made to order, we were in heaven. We didn't even remember to take a picture first. My husband and I was savoring the deliciously caramelized Belgium waffle with the freshly whipped cream, creamy and flavorful homemade Belgium Chocolate Ice Cream and freshest strawberries. Yum!!! I mean, the freezer stuff does no justice to the variety of quiches the prepare from scratch here. The cakes are all homemade too, and they look superb! Wasn't sure what to get because everything looks so amazing. So opted for the Tomato Feta Quiche. I mean YOWZA! I ended up taking 2 more slices to go. They're priced around $12-13 each, but worth every penny!! In addition, opted for a ginormous chocolate chip cookie (~6" in diameter *.*), a cheesecake slice and a chocolate mousse. We popped into Belgian Sweets a while back to satisfy a craving for the waffles we fell in love with while living in Europe. The store is located in strip mall, which has its own parking lot. Inside, there's a very Belgian country home aesthetic going on. The unfortunate thing is that the ornate paintings don't mesh with the exposed ductwork, nor the supplies lining the hallway to the bathroom. Ordering was fairly simple. You go up, place your order and have a seat at a table or on one of their well-loved couches. I must say none of the four of us were overly impressed with our selections. The waffles didn't taste like the Liège waffle we were hoping for. Our lacked the surprising bits of crunch from the pearl sugar usually mixed into these types of waffles. As a New Yorker, I can't say the NY-Style cheesecake was authentic, but it wasn't terrible. It had a speculoos crust which was different, in a good way, but it wasn't as dense and creamy as one expects a NY-Style cake to be. Finally, the Belgian cookie was a nice, smallish dessert for our son who wasn't too hungry. In all we weren't disappointed in the overall experience and would recommend you stop by to see what you think for yourself. read more

Where do I start with this place? Absolutely amazing waffles, to say the very least. We were walking around the vicinity of the Alamo and stumbled upon this gem in the late evening. The staff was keen to introduce and explain items on their menu to us, which was very nice considering I had never eaten a Belgian waffle before, but was eager to try one out. The staff recommended that we try a plain Belgian waffle without any toppings or fixings to get a taste of what an authentic Belgian waffle is like...and I was very impressed! What a lovely flavor and texture all on its own. The bakery/cafe is situated in a prime location a short walking distance near the Alamo, so if you're in the area it's a great place to stop and eat after a tour. Additionally, the seating area is full of antiques (even some of the seating arrangements are antiques), so there's a historical ambiance to the place that makes you feel like you're eating in a museum. The service, ambiance, cleanliness, and quality of the waffles in particular are all excellent. I will definitely be stopping by for another bite and coffee the next time I'm in the area! read more

As luck would have it we were in town visiting my brother and his family that were recently reassigned to SA after living in Belgium for the last year or so. This seemed like a "must stop" kind of place. The decor was very interesting with lost of historical relics. They had great signage that explained the Liege waffles and how they are made as well as their story and a little bit about Belgium. The gentlemen running the counter was kind and helpful. Within about 10 minutes we had a couple of waffles. They were made fresh and piping hot. All in all, they made a pretty good waffle. If a true Belgian Liege waffle was a 10 these were a solid 8. Ours were a little overdone and they lacked the rich caramel that you get in Belgium. They were still very good and unless you are planning a trip across the pond they're as close as you're going to get. read more

Our group of four stopped by this highly-recommended bistro for dessert late this past Saturday evening after a nice & very satisfying dinner at The Pearl. Looking through the menu as a first-time costumer, my eyes popped at the list of mouth-watering choices to indulge in. We wanted to order one waffle each but since it was late in the day, they only had enough batter for two. This was fine with us since we weren't hungry anyway; we just wanted to end our evening on a high (high caloric?) note. We decided to share the two extremes: the Gaufre de Liege, a "plain" waffle that was anything but plain in its crispy/chewy goodness and the aptly named King Leopold, the ultimate paradigm of waffle excellence. Topped with a savory Dutch butter cookie spread, creamy premium Belgian chocolate sauce, and guiltless fresh strawberries, it was a treat for a foodie's senses. Two huge dollops of homemade whipped cream enhanced its visual & ambrosial appeal. As a "dessert" to our dessert, we also shared one of their scrumptious palm-sized chocolate chip cookies. Let me just say that everything lived up to the hype. We savored every morsel, and each bite was better than the last. We left, rubbing our tummies in gastronomic nirvana but only after we ordered some chocolate mousse, creme brulee, cheesecake, and chicken soup to go. Side Note #1: Since we were the last customers, we had a chance to chat with Steve, one of the proprietors of the establishment, as they were cleaning up. He shared that they've been in the business for several years and that they used to be downtown where customer traffic was heavier and parking was a nightmare. As with most small businesses, Covid sent them sailing through rough waters, but they managed to survive and moved to this new location 18 months ago. Side Note#2: As we were about to leave, we saw Steve heading to the front door with a whole rotisserie chicken in his hand. We soon learned that he has been feeding a couple of stray cats who come to the door each night at closing time, waiting for their meal. One of them just had a litter that she hides in the bushes so she goes back and forth to bring them some food. Steve even shredded the meat into smaller pieces to make it easier for the little ones. Nice gesture, Steve. Such lucky creatures those felines are! read more
