We ordered food for pick up to avoid the long lines stated in some of these reviews. To our surprise, there was no wait at all on a Saturday at around 10ish. We got 2 sandwiches. I agree that it was weird the initial price does not include the bagel but just the eggs so as you built your bagels, you got to the end price. It ended up being around 16-17 dollars each for a bagel with eggs with pastrami and cheddar and a bagel with eggs with beef hash and cream cheeses. Reuben Style Corn Beef on Rye: Similar to the pastrami except they add the Reuben fixings like dressing and sauerkraut. At this point it doesn't even need the mustard because it's flavorful on its own. Pickle spear with both sandwiches was appreciated for an acidic crunch. I would recommend going for a sandwich combo so you can get half a sandwich and a matzo ball soup (a whole sandwich was pretty filling)... wish we had known about it when ordered, but something for next time! OVERALL Sure, $12 a sandwich might be steep to some people... but I also come from one of the most expensive places to live (Bay Area California) and $15 will get you an overpriced salad. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese on an onion bagel (they were out of everything bagels by then, which was fine, considering the time). The price, though--$14.50--was a bit shocking. Even in NYC or Jersey, the best breakfast sandwiches rarely go over $10. While the bagel was good by Chicago standards, it was quite thin for the price, making it hard to justify the cost. I never knew I needed a brisket sandwich in my life until today. It's a unique love child of a Rueben (Russian dressing) and an Italian beef (beef, hot giardiniera) on a high quality, fresh roll. The ratio of meat to bread to sauce is on point and is big enough to fill you up but not too much to make you couch-bound for the remainder of your Saturday. I'd highly suggest complimenting the sandwich with a cup of matzo ball soup, or a potato latke, or both. In previous trips to Schneider I've tried bagels and the corned beef, would recommend it all. My wife gets the eggplant sandwich, and even though there is no meat on it, it's still a girthy sandwich that packs a punch of flavor. This is a tiny deli where you order at the counter & can either wait for a seat while you wait for your food or take what you ordered to go.
