Genuinely terrible, upsetting, and ultimately disgusting experience here. I'm ashamed of myself for just standing idly by but I watched in shock, horrified as the owner and a young man working for her berated an elderly woman who didn't seem to understand their credit card policy. Truly offensive, rude, and unconscionable behavior. The way the owner treated this women (and it seems from reading other reviews, any customer who has the slightest complaint) is appalling. I can't understand why it's so hard for some people to treat others with a little kindness but even the elderly are fair game now? What is this country coming to? I've never had the courage to complain myself so I have to applaud this woman for advocating for herself and the rest of us because the truth is their policies are not clearly stated, they do charge you more for using a credit card without telling you, they don't tell you how much more, and they don't even show their prices on anything until they're ringing you up. It's confusing to me too! The fact that they couldn't be patient with an elderly woman who had the courage to politely but persistently ask for an explanation and a little fairness was bad enough but to quickly escalate from being extremely defensive to being openly hostile towards her in front of half a dozen bystanders just trying to buy some baked goods and have a nice day out was repulsive and disturbing. The owner's behavior wasn't the worst of it though. The young man working there couldn't just take a deep breath but instead thought it was okay and somehow socially acceptable to become aggressive and rude towards this poor woman who was half his size (telling her to never come back again when she truly was just confused and never said a single mean word to them). The young man even went so far as to ask a police officer who happened in for a coffee to forcibly remove this woman (cane and all, she could barely stand!). And again, she wasn't yelling, she wasn't being mean or rude, she wasn't making a disturbance, but the owner and this young man sure were! Indeed, those dishonors all go to the very rude and ultimately disgraceful owner and this young man. It was all a disgrace to Cooperstown and American small business in general. We're all struggling locally and don't need this kind of bad behavior hurting our town's image. The poor woman was just upset because she didn't understand but never once yelled or said an unkind word or did anything other than try to ask for a little fairness and stick up for herself. Thank God one man stepped up to intervene and she wasn't left all alone to be abused by these people but I'm ashamed of myself for not coming to her aid too and hope letting anyone who reads this know what kind of business they're supporting might make up for it in some small way but in truth it's those two who should be ashamed of themselves. The owner could have told this young man to show a little respect, apologized to this woman, and kept her cool, but instead they bullied her, humiliated her, and even abused police powers asking this poor officer to force an old woman out of their store. How do you two sleep at night or even look at yourselves in the mirror? Are you proud of yourselves, your business, and your behavior? I guess it helps that I've never loved their baked goods all that much but even if they were the best baked goods around (they're not), I'm definitely too disgusted by their behavior to ever eat anything made by someone who would treat anyone that way, especially an elderly woman. Not the kind of business or behavior we need in our community. read more

A very quaint little bakery on the corner. It's got all the charm of an old-fashioned bakery, and all the glory of wonderful baked goods. I had a cinnamon roll, which was large and covered in icing. My husband had a Bavarian cream donut, which was a-freaking-mazing. I also bought a pumpkin spice cookie, which I just realized I haven't consumed yet...pretty excited about that! All of our goodies (three baked treats and two bottles beverages) was under $10, which I thought was very reasonable. Only downside - don't expect to find a seat! There were two smallish tables, each with 4 seats, but very close together. With the steady stream of folks coming in, it was a little uncomfortable! I just moved to Cooperstown back in June, so I'm still finding all the hidden gems in town. You would think this place isn't exactly hidden since it's on Main St and next to the only stoplight in town, but there you go. I was sent to pick up some donuts for my boss one morning and I learned one very important fact - that their donuts are really, really good. The prices are really good as well and aren't inflated like some other small bakeries. I've had the chance so far of trying some of their donuts, a cinnamon roll, and a black and white cookie and they are all exceptional. The staff have been very kind all the times I've stopped in and it's reflective of Cooperstown in general (nice people in a beautiful town). I'm really glad there's such a great little shop in town and I definitely recommend it to anyone who's in the area! read more

This review is based solely on the Schneider's Bakery Cinnamon Rolls. My boss was in Cooperstown a few weeks before I was, both of us for work. Someone introduced him to the wonderment that is a cinnamon roll from Schneider's. I don't know how many he had that weekend, but they lingered in his mind. Shortly before I went, he made a request. He told me that I had to have one when I went up there...and then bring back a dozen. So, on Friday morning, I made the quick walk to this little mecca on the corner and purchased three for friends and me. They were still warm in the bag. Yummy, cinnamon-y, heaven about the size of my head greeted my quickly expanding stomach. I ate a whole one. The next day, a friend and I split the last one, heating it for just a bit in the microwave to bring back the sticky texture. Yum again. A friend placed the order for a dozen for me to pick up the day I departed. He had asked that they be individually wrapped (for ease in freezing when we got back to the city). They didn't do this (but it's OK. We put them in individual ziplock bags today..after splitting another in the office), but they were ready and packed up at the appointed time. And the price is right. A dozen was $20. In NYC, each massive roll of yumminess of this size would have been a minimum of $3 each. Did I mention yum? read more

Came here for a snack after that boozey spin in Coopertown Distillery. Got a beautiful rose petal frosted cookie and a donut. The cookie was just enough to hit the spot, not too sweet or too cloying, and it was a work of beauty you ate. The donut I tried just because it was a vanilla cream, over a regular Bavarian creme. That was pretty thick and cloying. Glad I had my cookie. They ran out of bagels when we got there, but it looks like the Stagecoach sells those in their delicious sandwiches. read more

I was walking around the town with my friend, and we passed this place about 4 times, and we finally said, let's get some stuff. We felt like being fat, so he ordered a 1/2 pound of cookies, and I ordered 1 of about 5 things. First off, if you're going to get the cinnamon role, besides it being good cold, they will heat it up for you if you ask, and it's worth it. Every other cookie I ordered, macaroon, choc chip cookie, peanut butter cookie, etc was very, very good. My friends rainbow cookie depends on how you prefer it. It was more 'cakey' then I like, I prefer it more 'cookie-ish'. read more

I personally did not go to this bakery. We rented a house on the lake and a housemate went early Saturday morning and got a few bags of different kinds of donuts and pastries. Being a jelly doughnut addict, I have to say this was the best I've ever had. When you take your first bite, you'll notice there is only about 1/8 of donut top and bottom filled with jelly in between about 1 inch thick. This would be the distant cousin of the sink sandwich, be careful of what falls out, have your napkin ready or be prepared to contort your hand in different positions so as not to lose any of this delicious filling. Today I went to the bakery with my boyfriend. I've had their "black & white" cookies (half-moons) before, but this was my first trip into the bakery. We got 2 cannolis, 4 coconut macaroons, and 1 peanut butter cookie. All this cost exactly $10.00. My boyfriend and I just had the cannolis and they were great! The macaroons seem nice and moist like they should be, and the peanut butter cookie is good size. I really like the half-price rack of items from the day before - they had some nice rolls and things like that. I definitely will be going again over 4th of July weekend when we go back to Cooperstown. Erin says...you rock! read more

Nice little bakery in Cooperstown if you're around visiting the hall of fame. Everything inside looked delicious and handmade. I got the eclair and cinnamon bun which were awesome - the eclair was loaded with fresh cream and the outer doughy part had the perfect handmade consistency. As a local in Cooperstown I was very disappointed by the owner of this business. Our volunteer fire department was fighting a big fire in town early Tuesday morning and as I was walking to the fire house to make coffee to take to them I stopped at the bakery and asked for a donation of any day old donuts, cookies - anything that I could feed our members. He promptly told me he was too busy to give me anything. I find it very sad that as a business owner in town he was unwilling to support the men and women that volunteer their time to keep all of us safe. RUDE, RUDE, RUDE!! I initially went in & bought a couple of cookies & a cupcake. I then decided to purchase cookies that were decorated like baseballs for my son's entire team and coaches. Upon arrival to my car, I noticed that the cupcake had the wrong frosting (I had requested vanilla and it had chocolate). I went back inside assuming I could easily swap it out for what I had ordered and paid for. WRONG!! I entered the store and the girl that had waited on me asked if there was a problem. I explained that i simply wanted to return the cupcake with the chocolate frosting and get the cupcake with the vanilla frosting. She pointed to a sign that read "final sale" and told me that I couldn't "return" my cupcake. The other equally as unfriendly clerk echoed the same policy. I again explained that it was not my fault, but the clerk's fault. I was in disbelief that this was happening. One of them went in the back and retrieved what I assume to be the manager. She was also adamant that everything in the bakery was "final sale". I had just spent $50 in this bakery and they wouldn't correct their own $2 error. Unbelievable!! read more

You don't need icing or sprinkles or jelly or coconut or any of that stuff that may enhance -- but won't improve -- the best doughnut in the world. Schneider's is a charming bakery on Main Street in Cooperstown serving the world's largest danishes - see the picture I posted - I needed two hands to hold it! We went here prior to visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame. They have all the classics you would want: doughnuts, danish of various flavors, both sweet and savory, croissants, cookies, cupcakes, and various baseball-themed baked goods. We purchased coffee, one blueberry muffin and one raspberry danish (one must have fruit for breakfast, of course). Both were really fresh and oh! that danish - so good. It contained the perfect cheese:filling ratio. The coffee was excellent, too, and they offer both flavored and non-flavored brews. The people working here are very nice. Tip: take your pastries and walk down to Cooper Park to enjoy them. It's a beautiful park and a lovely way to start the day. read more
