    Vainilla cake , strawberry filling
    Judith O.

We ordered a Cinderella cake for my niece, sent a picture of a simple design I would like, but the cake they made was completely different from the design, but it didn't matter since it was cute. So that was ok. However, it was dry and bland, had way too much frosting and filling, and very little amount of cake, and tasted like a box mix. But this is not over yet. Today we picked up the cake and the attitude of the employee was very rude. I understand if there's a misunderstanding because of the language differences (I'm a native Spanish speaker and I speak a English but I do have an accent) the elderly white lady was condescending, asking me to repeat my words several times, I understood and answered all of her questions (kind of cake, name, flavor) and whatever I answered she would say that (according to her) I'm saying it WRONG. I really hope the owner of this business reads all of the reviews, because I wanna say that she wasn't being rude. She was being RACIST!

J & S Watkins is one of the most overrated dessert shops there is. I would describe J & S Watkins as a "show cake" bakery. There seems to be a new fad where people love to buy cakes, cookies, etc that taste awful, but look good. I call these "show desserts". I much rather have something that tastes good instead of something that looks fancy. Anyways I ordered a chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting. The cupcake was dry and it tasted like a box mix. In addition, the frosting was over the top sugary and I needed a gallon of milk just to get it down. At least the cupcake was really big, but I rather just have it taste good. Also, the prices here are very expensive and the desserts are simply not worth the price. In the final analysis, J & S Watkins is an overrated bakery that serves overrated "show desserts", but at least they look good!

Seriously the best homemade tasting vanilla cheesecake with chocolate there is in CP.

CP has a couple of cupcakes and cookie places, but J&S has the most authentic feel to a homemade bakery. Their selections are limited and the storefront is just for pick up but their cakes, cupcakes and pies are amazing. I'm not a cupcake person but their apple brandy walnut has made me a convert. Really moist flavorful cake and their cream cheese frosting compliments the flavor. I normally scrap out frosting off cakes, but this had me wanting more. Go pick up one! These are definitely sharing size! Their cheesecakes are fluffy and delectable. I prefer their plain vanilla cheesecake but their dark chocolate cheesecake is a must for those who like it a little sweet. Very affordable prices and great service.

We've picked up multiple cakes and cupcakes from here for special occasions and they never disappoint. The staff are warm and friendly and the cakes are consistently delicious and beautifully decorated.

J & S Watkins specializes in making gourmet desserts for wholesale customers. Their desserts are served at many restaurants across the Capital Region. I noticed Justin's on Lark St in Albany serves Watkins desserts (I saw the dessert boxes in their kitchen on a TV special years ago). This bakery makes several varieties of cheesecakes, tortes, cakes, pies, wedding cakes, and special decorated cakes. Their retail shop also has two display cases of cakes and a few mini desserts such as mini carrot cakes, fruit cookie bars, and large cupcakes. For a list of desserts and for online orders: http://www.jswatkins.com Some items such as pies and tortes can only be purchased at the retail store. We've purchased cheesecakes from their Halfmoon retail store for those special occasions (Thanksgiving & Holidays) and for other shindigs. My favorites are the Key Lime Pie and the Pumpkin Pecan Cheesecake. Their cheesecakes are very rich and creamy and are a hit with our party/dinner guests. Anywho, be prepared to shell out a lot of dough (hehe!) Their baked goods are on the pricey side with tortes priced around $40 and whole cheesecake priced around $35, which are comparable to the prices at The Cheesecake Factory. J & S Watkins also has a coupon in the Albany Entertainment Book (a small savings up to $5 off).

My boyfriend's parents bought him a cake for his birthday. It was one of the best cakes I have had. It wasn't overly sweet so you can actually taste the vanilla.

J&S Watkins is an amazingly delicious bakery that created a custom masterpiece for my baby shower!! I met with the owner/decorator and she listened to exactly what I wanted and created a gorgeous cake!!! I will be going here for all my bakery needs! I couldn't be happier with the finished product! It tasted even better than it looked!!

I love the bundtlets- such a perfect size at a great price for a treat! I found out about this chain when I lived in Virginia and saw an ad for a free bundtlet on my birthday. I was so happy to find there was a location nearby when I moved back to NY. The staff at this store are really friendly and there have been samples available each time we have visited. I've gotten my mom hooked and it's our go-to place for getting dessert to celebrate birthdays/holidays. My sister even ordered my nephew's birthday desserts and had my mom pick them up. Ordering in store, online, or over the phone was easy and convenient. Pick up was also stress-free. I love that they gave different special flavors during different times of the year. The store also offers a small selection of cute gift items and party decor. I miss the marble cake that used to be a permanent flavor but my absolute favorite is the chocolate chocolate chip (choc cake with choc chips and their signature cream cheese frosting). The red velvet and confetti are probably tied for my second favs. My mom is an excellent baker so I expect a lot from a bakery cake- these taste like a homemade, flavorful, moist, not cloyingly sweet cake.

Stopped by for coffee and a quick breakfast sandwich on our way out of town. Parking lot was nearly full but it's shared w a smoothie place and other businesses. That being said, almost everyone was at UG and for good reason. The line was out the door when we got inside. I was discouraged and ready to angrily wait, but I was wrong! The line moved quickly and a staff were friendly for a busy morning. I had the summer blend hot and wife had an iced latte. The hot coffee was tasty. Low acidity, smooth and balanced. Only complaint was that it could have been just a click hotter for me. I don't necessarily want to burn my esophagus, but this was only lukewarm. The iced latte was delicious. We each had an egg sandwich on a bagel and they were terrific. Soft and chewy bagel with plenty of flavor. We took a couple cookies home from the case and Oh Em Geeeeee! Phenomenal! Now I regret not getting the bag of yesterday's bagels at the door. Even "day old" I bet these things are great!

Uncommon Grounds nails it on both counts and is a great spot to get a little work done to boot. Stopped by this location when I was in the area for some coffee and breakfast. I'm usually in search of sugar free options as well as milk alternatives. Uncommon Grounds had a couple sugar free options (yay! caramel and vanilla) and a few different milk alternatives. I got a caramel latte made with almond milk and it was dreamy. For my breakfast, I got the Mediterranean breakfast sandwich on a salt bagel. It came with egg, spinach, avocado, tomato, and a bit of pesto. Delicious! The only tiny thing for me was the tomato made the sandwich kinda slippery and difficult to eat so the next time I ordered it (which was literally the next day), I got it with double the spinach and no tomato. The service was really lovely and the prices are reasonable. They're a popular spot and were pretty busy when I was in and even with that everyone was so kind and helpful. Get to it!

I was tasked with getting some tasty baked goods for the family. After getting stymied not once, but twice (both bakeries were closed this particular Monday due to the holiday), I resigned myself to stop at The Desert Tray and see what they had, provided they were open. They were and I am all the better for it. It's a shop with a smaller selection of baked goods than you'd see at your average italian bakery, but the ones I sampled were delectable. I ordered a few scones, a couple of cookies, two eclairs, and two lemon bars. I'm not a scone or lemon bar person, but we had relatives over and I figured they'd like those. I had my eye on the eclair. Correction, I wasn't a scone or lemon bar guy, but Tracy made me a convert. While not your traditional scone, these were delicious: moist and filled with fruit and one was cinnamon. Oh, but the eclair trumped the scone. The owner's father was explaining how she makes them. Again, a spin on a traditional eclair, with Belgian chocolate and french vanilla in the creme. I'm ruined on traditional eclairs now. Kudos to Tracey on a fresh (and delicious) spin on some classics.
