We ordered a Cinderella cake for my niece, sent a picture of a simple design I would like, but the cake they made was completely different from the design, but it didn't matter since it was cute. So that was ok. However, it was dry and bland, had way too much frosting and filling, and very little amount of cake, and tasted like a box mix. But this is not over yet. Today we picked up the cake and the attitude of the employee was very rude. I understand if there's a misunderstanding because of the language differences (I'm a native Spanish speaker and I speak a English but I do have an accent) the elderly white lady was condescending, asking me to repeat my words several times, I understood and answered all of her questions (kind of cake, name, flavor) and whatever I answered she would say that (according to her) I'm saying it WRONG. My brother wanted something really nice for his girlfriend's birthday so after we did some searching I thought this would be a great idea... I feel so bad because the plastic wrapped and previously frozen cake was really terrible tasting, very dry, not anywhere near what you'd expect and guests ended up eating the Walmart cupcakes and no one wanted to bring any of the leftover cake home (more than 3/4 were left). There seems to be a new fad where people love to buy cakes, cookies, etc that taste awful, but look good. I call these "show desserts". I much rather have something that tastes good instead of something that looks fancy. Anyways I ordered a chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting. The cupcake was dry and it tasted like a box mix. In addition, the frosting was over the top sugary and I needed a gallon of milk just to get it down. At least the cupcake was really big, but I rather just have it taste good. Also, the prices here are very expensive and the desserts are simply not worth the price. Ordered a Key lime pie for 12 people. Was absolutely delicious and plentiful. Very satisfied.

My wife was in the area and decided to stop in to purchase a cupcake to bring home for us to enjoy after dinner. She picked out one that was supposed to have an Almond-flavored cupcake and a raspberry-flavored frosting. It survived the trip back in a nifty plastic clamshell container that was engineered well and actually was more amusing than the cupcake inside. The cupcake was a little dry and had I not been told what flavor it was I would have said yellow cake mix. It didn't taste any different from any boxed mix that you can get at the store. Whatever almond nuances were supposed to be present had either burned off in the oven or else were never there to begin with. The frosting was thick and fluffy, though the edges were dried out from sitting around. And, it had absolutely no raspberry flavor whatsoever. But, had you asked me to identify it I could have: cherry chip. Yup, the red-studded cake mix that sort of tastes like rainbow chips and sort of tastes like fake cherries. Now, my wife will tell you that I am a huge cherry chip cake fanatic. Don't ask me why, but I love it. And, it hasn't been available in years (we once bought out a Dollar General's complete inventory when we found it!) so to find something that tastes like it again was wonderful. Was it worth $4? Um.... The three stars are because I love cherry chip. If you don't, I would knock another star off the review. read more

CP has a couple of cupcakes and cookie places, but J&S has the most authentic feel to a homemade bakery. Their selections are limited and the storefront is just for pick up but their cakes, cupcakes and pies are amazing. I'm not a cupcake person but their apple brandy walnut has made me a convert. Really moist flavorful cake and their cream cheese frosting compliments the flavor. I normally scrap out frosting off cakes, but this had me wanting more. Go pick up one! These are definitely sharing size! Their cheesecakes are fluffy and delectable. I prefer their plain vanilla cheesecake but their dark chocolate cheesecake is a must for those who like it a little sweet. Very affordable prices and great service. read more

Short story: Best key lime pie I have ever consumed. Not so short story: It is small, very few frills, and very deceptive. The exterior is plain, as is the inside of the shop. A small dessert case has a few selections of cupcakes and a menu is posted on the right. All the money they don't spend on a glitzy or gaudy store appearance clearly goes into their food. The prices initially seemed a little high, but for the quality of food that you get, it is spot on. I could tell high quality ingredients were used in small batch baking once I tried a few of the items. The chocolate peanut better cupcake was crumbly, slightly more dense than most cupcakes. There was almost as much peanut butter buttercream frosting on top as there was cake supporting the beautifully piped buttery goodness. The frosting was incredibly smooth, and balanced the peanut butter and sweetness very well. Some sort of peanut buttercup was crumbled on top adding a little pizzaz. The key lime pie (which can be bought in single serving tartlets if you don't want to splurge the $35ish for a whole pie) is the best I've ever tasted. It was uniform in texture, the crust on the tartlet was flaky (but not crumbly), buttery and perfectly baked, and the ratio of sweetness to tangy lime flavor was even throughout. There was no bitter after taste that one often fines in citrus pies, yet the fresh citrus was able to shine through and not be masked by the sugar. I discovered that the store imports fresh key lime juice from the Florida Keys in five gallon buckets just for this pie. #heaven They also do wedding cakes (tastings by appointment), various other cakes, and I'm pretty sure they'd be willing to work with customers on most any event. I used J&S for my boyfriend's 30th birthday party cake. I wanted the cake to be THE statement piece of the party. A huge NY Rangers' emblem (see picture here in photo section). I worked over the phone with them and over email. They were all so nice and accommodating and easy to work with. Through only one picture of the emblem, two calls and two emails they captured EXACTLY what I wanted (plus more). I could not believe how perfect it was! The birthday boy was SO pumped (it was a surprise) and everyone could not stop commenting on it. BUT I had one concern, how would it taste? We have ALL went to that party with the pretty fondant covered master piece just to find out the "pretty" stopped at the look of the cake! Well NOT the case here! The cake was by far the BEST cake I have ever had, and many guests agreed! Most importantly, the birthday boy could NOT get over it. We did the chocolate with chocolate mouse. It was life changing! Highly recommended! To top it all off there was NO question it was fresh!! (many bakeries that make fondant cakes freeze them or make the cake ahead so it is older to make it easier to work with). This cake lasted from Saturday through Tuesday when my boyfriend brought it in for people at work who could not make the event. They too could not believe how good it was and he could not believe how well it stayed. We only threw some left out so we would not gain a 100 pounds! So I am sure it may have even lasted longer. I will note for buyers their portion estimations are GENEROUS! You could go smaller if you think you have some non-cake eaters and:or will not be cutting everyone HUGE slices. Overall, an amazing experience. I just moved here 2 years ago and am finding "my businesses" for things. This is definitely "my bakery" now for all bday cakes and celebrations! read more

Just stopped in at this amazing bakery. Everything is baked right there. One of the owners, Sue ( the S in J & S Watkins) suggested a s'more cookie. It was loaded with chunks of chocolate, pieces of graham crackers and mini marshmallows - yummy!!!! The array of beautiful designer cakes caught my eye as soon as I walked in. There is another bakery in the area; but it is well overpriced and the personal were indignant when I had the nerve to ask the price of a tarimisu cake. Also, for a busy mom where life distractions get in the way, it's nice that you can put your order in as late as week or two in advanced depending on how busy they are especially during peak season for them. Sublime cakes for when you want a special dessert. Everything we've tried has been superb, including the my husband's favourite, the Key Lime pie. When we splurge at J & S Watkins, we never decide on just one thing -- they let us choose four different kinds of cake or pie to put in the box, which usually comes out to about sixteen total slices. Many restaurants around here do offer Watkins desserts, but I've found this can be hit or miss (at some places, the desserts have not been so fresh). Their buttercream frosting is perfect. Not too sweet, and oh so creamy! As for price, we checked out multiple vendors for our wedding cake and JS Watkins was right in the middle of the pack for price. Very reasonable and their quality is way above the rest. Lastly, instead of freezing the top layer of your wedding cake they will make you a new one matching your wedding cake for your one year anniversary! How special is that?! read more

Rarely do I review and this is worth it. I had a craving for Apple pie and found this on yelp. Store bought stuff is disgusting so I was looking for a bakery. This place serves them frozen and I was abut weary until I took it home. It is amazing and strawberry rhubarb is as well. Now we pick up and order all kinds of cakes and pies for guests and they are always a hit for deserts. This place has a homemade taste and the ingredients are excellent.
