I like saying the word "Schnitzels." It might just be the name of a German dish, but pluralizing it gives off a fun/inviting vibe which I guess you could say was the case when my wife and I visited this quaint restaurant a few weeks ago. Located in the Stony Brook Village is where you'll find Schnitzels which hides itself towards the end of a strip of stores. A bit unsuspecting from the outside for what feels like a cozy pub once you've entered through its doors. The place is small so a busier time than the somewhat early dinner we were having might have resulted in a wait, but luckily we snagged a table right away. What did take a little time was some aspects of service. I'm definitely not here to badmouth any server or person working as everyone seemed friendly, but things moved a little slow (from first being greeted, to getting our drinks, and for when the food came). Perhaps one more employee working at the bar or a bus boy might've remedied this, but also perhaps I'm nitpicking (the mind of a Yelper never rests, sorry). What's really important though is the food, and Schnitzels' menu of German grub is relatively vast. In an attempt to not over order, my wife and I shared a giant pretzel for an app to begin with (though the fried pickles sounded like a winner and were almost a secondary starter). This knitted monster came with some mustard and cheese sauce with each bite being light, doughy, and delicious. For the main course my wife went with a chicken schnitzel sandwich and I went with what they called "The Standard" which was a choice of wurst (brat for me) and came with potato salad on the side. Trying both I thought they were equally tasty with (honestly) my wife's being a little more flavorful. Don't get me wrong, mine definitely hit the spot, but almost seemed like an oversized hot dog then a bratwurst. Oh and that potato salad was legit. This was also washed down with a nice pint of Dunkel. If you're up for it, you can get "the boot" which, at a different time, I might've considered "wearing" in my hand, but that's for a tentative return trip. Overall, Schnitzels was a reasonably solid German spot worthy of checking out. I'll throw em four stars with some two thumbs up on certain aspects and a few sideways thumbs on some others that could probably be fixed or depends on what you're ordering. I mentioned a return trip and I think that could definitely happen with location being a factor too. Worth a shot and a visit, especially if you like saying the word Schnitzels!

We had a large party of 7 this evening. We started with the Wurst platter, which included 4 types of wurst, pretzel bites, red cabbage and sauerkraut along with mustard and cheese sauce. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. They have several Schnitzels with your choice of chicken, veal or pork. We've tried several and they were all good. Four of our dishes came out piping hot, 3 lukewarm warm. My mom got the sauerbraten which was good, she found the sauce a little too sweet. She's German and does make her own, so that is her preference. The salmon looked great and got a big thumbs up. Beer was very good, as well as the service. The rustic berry tart was great, the Black Forest cake wasn't great, my grandmother used to make it with dark rich chocolate cake and whole cherries. I couldn't even tell it was chocolate cake and the cherries tasted like jelly. The Saturday Sundae is absolutely amazing! We had been there on a Monday twice before and played Trivia night, and had a ball. We were hoping to play music bingo with mom, but they said we couldn't stay. The latest you can make a reservation on Monday is 5 pm and there's a 2 hour limit on the table. Bingo starts at 7:30 and the place was packed, with people waiting. So heads up with that. They alternate trivia and bingo, Monday's. We love this place, the owners are great fun, but slightly disappointed this time.

Schnitzels Stony Brook, NY @eatschnitzels Schnitzels is a German-American gastropub known for its awesome variety's of schnitzel, German beer, and pub fare. They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and serving up amazing meals at each. Choose from 5 different gravies and then your schnitzel. Traditionally served with pork or veal, but they do have chicken or eggplant as well! I went with the classic Weinershnitzel which is traditionally served with veal schnitzel and served with brown gravy. Lindsey got the Chicken Rahmschnitzel which is schnitzel topped with a creamy white reisling-infused mushroom gravy. Both were filled with flavor and we were very impressed! All schnitzel is served with spätzle, seasonal vegetables, and red cabbage. This was the definition of a comfort meal that. We started with their Bavarian Cheese Board, and classic German appetizers - potatoes pancakes paired with this insane apple butter, and potato dumplings with your choice of gravy. We loved the vibe in there. Great pub style feel but also nice indoor and outdoor eating. Our server Eden was amazing and such a great help! We truly loved this place and we can wait to go back! Cute restaurant located in a small strip mall area. We started with the potato pancakes that was a nice size enough for 2 . Served with a nice apple butter to dip. My fellow dinner had the loaded potato soup served with a nice bread stick to dip into the soup . He said it was delicious and hearty. We each had a signature dish schnitzel and felt the schnitzel was a tad dry .They had been there before and said it was great but maybe today it was just something off . Red cabbage was tasty , fresh vegetables really good and the Spätzle was plain as it usually is in general . Great specials and menu options, just think the food could have been slightly better, but would give it another try.

What a disappointment. Food was incredibly BLAND! The only good thing in our meal was the cheese curds we had for appetizer. Service was so odd, she asked if we needed a jox while We were still eating out food. My drink was empty by the time I was done with apps, she never refilled my glass again. The fish a S chips was gross! Like smell bad kinda gross. If you wants appetizers and drinks, give it a try. If not try another place.

Really cute casual restaurant in a pretty plaza. The service was very prompt and friendly. They had a really nice selection of food. Everything from wraps to entrees. I had a delicious sauerbraten with roasted vegetables paired with a dry Riesling. Everyone's meal was great, wraps, burgers, schnitzels and dessert.

While shopping in the Stony Brook Village Center we came across a charming German restaurant called Schnitzels and enjoyed a little taste of German cuisine. Although small, the restaurant has a bar with seating along with seating for table service. In addition there's a small area devoted to live music on specific days. We started with the Wurst Platter featuring 4 wursts: knockwurst, bratwurst, krainerwurst and cheddar bratwurst served with pretzel bites, red cabbage and sauerkraut. The platter is a wursts lover dream. Dinner was the traditional German pork jagerschnitzel and wienerschnitzel platters both served with spatzle, red cabbage and seasonal vegetables. Both cooked to perfection with generous portions. Topped off dinner with the apple strudel and was pleasantly surprised to see the strudel was prepared with raisins which I've never received at other "authentic" German restaurants. Schnitzels has a nice selection of both wines and German beers and offers different events throughout the week including happy hours and lunch specials. We met one of the owners Storm, who happened to be our server, who was both welcoming and customer service oriented. It was a welcomed sight observing the owners serving tables and engaging with the customers. Schnitzels is a small community oriented authentic German restaurant offering great food and outstanding service. We will definitely be back and if you're in the mood for German food Che k out Schnitzels, you won't be disappointed.

I can't recommend Schnitzels enough! Awesome ambiance, phenomenal service, huge portions and delicious food. The schnitz sandwich is a 10/10. Came in on a thursday night around 5:30 pm and by 6 every table was taken. Not surprised after trying the food! The menu is HUGE and has a wide variety of options. I can't wait to go back.

Came here to celebrate my dear friend's bday. I would come back just for those German pancakes ; those pancakes were the show stopper for me. Love the ambiance and service as well. Could be a cool place to kick off Octoberfest for sure !! Love SB village they always have great dinner spots.

Cozy Taste of Germany at Schnitzels! Tucked away in quite a charming Stony Brook, Schnitzels is a small restaurant serving good Getman food. While it may not be the most high-end or traditional German restaurant around, it serves fresh ingredients, has an inviting atmosphere, and genuinely great service. The space itself is small but thoughtfully decorated, rustic, cozy, and a nice homestyle vibe. The menu sticks to the classics - hearty schnitzels, sausages, potato sides, fried pickles, red cabbage, spatzle, and much more! The food appears to be cooked fresh, dishes are tasty, well-prepared, and satisfying. Beer is great! Zicke Zacke Hoi Hoi Hoi!! Prost! The staff are attentive, friendly, and eager to make your experience enjoyable. One slight negative note is that they are a little disorganized when it comes to wait times. I've been here at times being quoted a 20 min wait which turned into a 45min wait. And on the other side of things was quoted a 15 minute wait, which turned into a five minute wait lol. Overall, If you're looking for a relaxed, no-fuss place to enjoy some good German comfort food, Schnitzels is absolutely worth a visit. This place is part of the rotation for us and friends.

The owner was very friendly and lively, and he seems like he really knows what he is talking about (I wouldn't know the difference, though...). While I was browsing a woman came in and told the owner she wanted a red wine, not too sweet, bold flavor, around $35. He immediately got up to assist her and after some conversation asked if it was okay to get a less expensive wine because he thought it would be exactly what she likes. He chose a $20 bottle for her and that is what she purchased. In no way whatsoever did he pressure her (or me) into purchasing anything expensive and he didn't scoff at the low price point. I ended up buying this Rosso for about $11. Very happy with my experience here and I'll definitely be back. It's a very pleasant place to shop.

We read a recent review where someone proclaimed the owner to be nasty & unfriendly (sure, I am paraphrasing). Those types of reviews are generally emotionally charged and written by plebs I find. More on that toward the end. Pulling up to a rather unassuming east end Long Island small shopping plaza drenched in rain; opening the door, you are taken back to a semi rustic and dim interior. Perfectly elegant in its bucolic charm- with nice lounge music playing. It is a sit where one likes atmosphere. This is meant with the utmost of respect and candour. We were greeted kindly by the proprietoress (Jacqueline), and handed pleasantly robust binders with the wine list and food. Deciding to treat this in the more European café type, we had glasses and charcuterie. I, the Sagrantino, and her the Kerner. Jacqueline was vocally pleased with our interesting choices. The night drew on, more wine ensued, more food, multiple conversations, and I completed reading through each page and wine choice...finding much to be recognised and appreciated (Kirwan, Moric, Georg Breuer to name but a few) At the end of the night, I asked Jacqueline to pick an appropriate nightcap.
