Schnitzels is always my go to place. My boyfriend absolutely loved the rahmschnitzel and I always get the eggplant pesto sandwich. Last time we went, Lou made us a watermelon martini and my boyfriend got an espresso martini. They were excellent. The staff is always extremely welcoming as well and I always feel comfortable and right at home when I go. I recommend this place to all of my friends and clients. I am looking forward to the Oktoberfest events and next Trivia night. Definitely reccomend 10/10 read more

I though our first visit to Schnitzel's was fantastic. We so needed a place like this around here! When we arrived we had to wait a little for a table as it is first come first serve, but it was well worth the wait! Our young lively server was very friendly and suggestive of dishes to try. They had a small selection of German beer on tap and most importantly they had Hofbrau original. We waited quite a bit for our beer but it was really busy. I thought the food here was really good and had a homecooked taste to it but all dishes tasted like low-sodium - which isn't a bad thing. We definitely had to add additional salt to our meals. Sauerbraten was delicious. The atmosphere was real cozy and was reminiscent of a German pub you might find in Bavaria. Our only real disappointment about Schnitzel's is that they only serve wine and beer - which is great, but we were really looking forward to having Jägermeisters to start our party! Oh well, du kannst nicht alles haben! We really hope Schnitzel's last along time and we will definitely be returning. Highly recommend! read more

So went this evening around 5 with my husband. 1st time was there few weeks ago and sat at bar was great service and enjoyed. This time was joke. Walked in sat bar cause we like to drink a few w appetizers first and relax. Bartender was standing eating chatting w customers clearly she knew them. Ok im like poor girl has no break all good. Then she stopped eating and we ordered our beers. Girl was gone then figured shift ended. Guy brought us our beers. Took our order we order big pretzel, potato pancakes and soup. We wanted pretzel first but didn't even have chance to say it. Again not issue but quickly went downhill once food came out and it came out like 5-7 minutes. Soup big chunk dried up cheese obviously reheated. Pretzel barely warm, potato pancakes tough and barely warm. Guy never asked how anything was. Was at other end of bar most of time. Was eating apps decided we weren't ordered anymore food. He came by quickly beers were like 1/4 full asked if we needed another beer said not yet but soon. Never came back ate all the food finished it. Sat with empty beer mugs and dirty plates front of us. Husband went bathroom left credit card nobody came by. I went bathroom came back nobody came by. Then the girl who started out appears behind bar again. I'm like can we please get the check. Got check fairly quick she walks away. Then we paid with cash. Overall disappointing awful customer service and the 1s time we were there spot on guy was great and that was a Saturday as well. 3 stars and I'm being generous. My 1st question, do long islanders ever leave Long Island? I mean queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan are not in another country. It's anywhere from 15-50 miles for most people. I'll get back to that in a second. This place was jam packed on a Saturday at 4pm. Wow. That is extremely rare for most restaurants. It's too early for such big crowds. I'm thinking this place is gonna be awesome. And for long islanders who never travel more than 10 miles, it is awesome. The wait at this place was 30-40 minutes. Could have been almost at Zum Stammitsch My point is I've been to German restaurants in queens. The one that stands out is Zum Stammitsch. 50+ years in business. And I wish I can can say differently but the comparison isn't even close. Not even in same galaxy. And I know most people reading this review is saying "I live on Long Island I'm not driving into queens to eat". For those people I say, ok. Your missing out , big time. But now I am really understanding , these places are packed only because people won't travel , they want a 5-10 minute drive. What are you people rushing back home for? Feed the cat, watch Netflix, do a load of laundry ? I wanted this place to be great , I would love a 10 minute drive too. Not happening. Time to fuel up the car and head West. Overall a solid place! I really like getting a liter of quality German Lager and sitting down for some food that isn't served anywhere else nearby. That is how you do the mid range sit down restaurant! The food is good, although I don't have a nearby benchmark to compare any of their dishes. I have spent some time in Germany but I couldn't tell you how their food compares head to head. But generally German food is pretty hard to mess up! And they deliver here. The trademark Schnitzels are good and very large portions. It was hard to finish. I enjoy going there and getting things like their cheese spread and appetizers. The service here was perfect- lovely servers and quick- the place was adorable with a nice temp and open door vibe. That being said, this was the worst sandwich i have eaten in years. (Many, many years) The pretzel bun was hard, dry flavorless and pretty much inedible- had to peel off most of it to even eat the sandwich. Unfortunately losing the bad bread did not improve the sandwich- schnitzel was dry, stringy and hard. The cheese seemed like a plastic tasteless film. I could see that there was a tiny bit of gravy- but if I hadn't seen it, would never have known it was there. Absolute disgustingness. I tried to make it palatable by using my companions' garlic aioli- but the sauce was too sweet and had a chemical aftertaste. I really wanted to like this place but the food is embarrassing. I was trying to be diplomatic with my review but since the owner responded to me very harshly with personal insults- I will add that the reason I did not tell the server that my sandwich was awful is that my 2 lunch mates' meals were as bad or worse than mine- and I did not think complaining to the very pleasant server would turn garbage into sunshine. There was no part of the sandwich that could be remedied. It was garbage. We enjoyed the staff and the place- The schnitzel was rubbery noodles splashed with a tasteless brown sauce looked as if it were thrown across the noodles from the other side of the room- the best thing on 3 plates was a passable potato salad. I'm sorry that I didn't bother your staff- maybe I'll try again and next time I will. Great little place in Stony Brook. Menu had authentic german items on the menu. Good Beer selection ( Hofbräu) on tap unfortunately no Hefeweizen. Food was ok. If you call your self Schnitzel's than your Schnitzel should be outstanding and not over cooked/ dry and almost black and dry. Schnitzel in germany are also Pan fried not deep fried! The redcabbage was good the spätzle okra not sure why there was another vegetable under The schnitzel. I ordered the traditional Wiener Schnitzel and it came with a sauce on top..... not sure why this isn't traditional... My wife had the Rahm Schnitzel and the meat was over fried too the sauce was great. The kids had spätzle mac&cheese and they liked it. The appetizer wheel was cool too. I had curryworst, a popular street dish and my date had the sauerbraten, she liked it and gave me a taste, definitely more flavorful than you'd expect. The curryworst was a huge portion. Really good solid flavor. The Staff were very attentive and friendly. Our waitress was definitely timing the appetizer to entree to dessert. I could see how an impatient person could mark off for that. Ambiance was definitely loud and a bit raucous, I don't think a this is a spot for an intimate conversation. I half expected live music in a venue like this. Layout is a bit cramped and with the size of the plates the table quickly became a challenge. The meal came out to $45 per person with tip. I was so worried that I could not find any dish I would enjoy as I always have a bias on German food that just heavy meats and sausages etc. Mistake and inaccurate! My salmon salad was so clean, neat and so perfectly seasoned! I REALLY appreciated that the kitchen did NOT use oil to make my grilled salmon per my request! I love their purple cabbage slaw!
