We sent our child there every week for about five months. They never told us anything, other than she's doing well. $230 for 45 minutes four times a months... They had a very quiet person teaching her. We found out after about two months that they were sending us emails with instructions to help her practice. after the 5 months and over $900 she's learned absolutely nothing! as a matter of fact, she was singing better before she was there and we have recordings to prove it. read more

As a kid who was put into school of rock by my parents it is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I had no sense of purpose and had no clue what I wanted to do with my life before I went here. School of rock has given me purpose. I love music and every week I get to be surrounded by other people who love music and we get to drive our passion to create art. Every teacher has a different way of teaching so maybe the first teacher is not what you're looking for. I really recommend paying for one month and trying 4 different teachers. Once you find a teacher that can teach you the most effectively it just becomes a blast. I truly believe that this organization is providing the best possible thing for children, purpose. read more

This place could be so great. If instructors had any training in music education, if the owner cared about the students more than the money, I could go on. There is no customer service if you have complaints. They offer the group setting, but it's not fully supervised and some kids are bullies. In lessons they don't teach music they just play a song. If it was focused on the experience of the students this would be a wonderful place. It's too bad they have a monopoly on the groups. read more

I love this place! Nine months ago, we stopped in for my son who was interested in playing bass guitar. Megan was fantastic and gave us a tour right on the spot. She offered my son a free lesson the following week, so we accepted her offer. My son had his first lesson with James and was so impressed. We signed up for weekly lessons. After a few months, my son was encouraged to be in a show since he had picked up playing so quickly. We signed him up for a show; Weezer. Four months go by and he played his first show at Whisky Row. Can I say it was fantastic! He is now in his second show; Queen and decided to add another show to his schedule; Alice Cooper and KISS. He is having a blast! I absolutely love all of the staff! They are wonderful! Thank you for such a great experience. If your thinking of performing or playing an instrument. Give this place a shot. They are awesome! read more

This is possibly a great place for the kids as parents expect to pay for lessons and the band experiences for their kids. The guitar instructor I worked with in GIlbert was great too, as were the other adult students. I've been a musician for over 50 years and play 4 different instruments well. And I am always have been prepared to play with groups and practice a lot. I would never let my band mates down especially for a public performance. But I don't have the time to take weekly lessons on top of the band time because of my work schedule and the cost. So, I was forced to quit. This works this way at both the Gilbert and Scottsdale locations. It's not a nationwide policy thankfully. Unfortunately, the only other location near me in Ahwatukee closed down. I honestly did not feel much like a customer at SOR. I am hopeful to find other opportunities to play music with others in the area. read more

This is not a safe place for students. Unfortunately, it took us a while to see what was going on there. Be warned! Save your kids and put them in another program. The people who manage the place do not have children and do not know how to handle any situations that arise. They also do not keep parents informed of potential hazards at the school. Instructors are great but have zero say in what goes on there. Parents and students also are penalized if they question anything. Kids leave all the time and there's a reason for that. Please be careful. We trusted them with our child and that trust was shattered and in turn they deeply hurt a kind and sensitive soul. The damage they caused him will not soon be healed. I enrolled my daughter at School of Rock Gilbert because, while she had a great voice and rock star aspirations, she had, quite literally, no stage presence. At recitals she'd stand with her arms crossed and looked like she couldn't wait to get off the stage. We enrolled about a month in to the first season, about 2 weeks before the mid-season show. At the show, she was somewhat nervous. When she sang her first words and heard the crowd cheer for her, something changed in her. By the end of season show she was a very different performer. She interacted with the crowd, talked to the bandmates, danced, and belted out her songs like nobody's business! School of Rock did wonders for my kid. I cried, I was so proud of her progress. Better yet, she was proud of herself! She now refers to SoR as "home" and says she feels most comfortable when she is there. She loves her friends, and the staff is amazing. Shane and Megan, and all of the teachers, are very experienced in performing and, more importantly, LOVE WORKING WITH THESE KIDS! You can see it in their faces when the kids show up, they're not there to make a buck, they're there because they love it. Autumn, who is generally in charge of the place, does a fantastic job and is super friendly. When people ask me the cost, they always say it's high. But for the performance program you get nearly 4 hours of direct instruction every week. Additionally, kids are encouraged to come in on their off days to practice, to hang out with the other kids, to start their own bands with their peers, or just to hang out in the lounge and work on homework. You are getting a full package deal, here. Mentors, friends, and the invaluable networking that is so valuable in the music world. Call them. You'll get a free lesson and can tour the studio, and even watch a rehearsal before you make up your mind. But I bet once you and your little rock star see the place and feel the vibes there, you'll want to be there all the time. Now, if only they offered tutoring... :) read more

What a great place to build self esteem for kids. My son made cool Rocker friends at School of Rock and even started his own band (Good Boy Daisy). They have gigs all the time and making a name for themselves. I have to honestly say, if it wasn't for School of Rock, there would be no band. The staff is top notch and makes everyone feel at home.
