Two words summarize my overall impression after dining here: unrealized potential. My brat was cooked well, but unremarkable. The pretzel was better than average, but the three mustards served on the side were unimpressive; each had a sweet flavor finish. The kraut was forgettable - it had been roasted, but not enough to enhance the flavor at all. The food was considerably better than the attitude-laden service. Our orders were taken incorrectly and had to be corrected, staff didn't know the menu, and only one of two drinks ultimately made it to our table. I had the feeling that table service was a new service offered, and the process has yet to be figured out. They need to work out the wrinkles quickly, or fall back to window service. I plan to stay away until one or the other happens and recommend others do the same. read more

If you're around downtown Bellingham you have GOT to check this place out. It is literally like stepping into Oktoberfest any time you come. Excellent partially covered seating with lots of open air and natural light, big wooden tables and friendly service make this place seem magical. They have a great rotating beer selection, and you can order by the liter of you're ready for some fun. Good selection of sausages that they wood fire cook, and the best pretzels you'll get...I don't mean little crunchy twists, I'm talking big salted heated up with a wood fire oven ready to make your head explode with awesome pretzels. As its outdoor they also welcome in well behaved dogs, so it's a great place to bring your four legged friend along for a good time. Excellent for groups, and even if you're just in the mood for a good spot to hang out and enjoy the day, this is a great spot. Definitely check this place out. read more

Stopped in on Saturday night. Excellent friendly service and people. The Amber beer was excellent. I'll get that again. I had the Bratwurst with the Kraut and the pretzel. Loved it. Great flavor and good price. I'll be back... Nothing negative to say. read more

The food and drinks were great, (I loved the blueberry cider!) but when I went to order a second drink, the waitress at the counter became frustrated that I had not already opened a tab. She said it "made her life a lot harder" when customers didn't open a tab, so if next time I was going to order more than one drink I "should think about that." I have NEVER had a waitress or bartender speak to me in that way, and it really caught me off guard. In addition to this, when it got cold out and we requested to have the heater by our table turned on, a different waitress came over and tried to light it, but when it didn't work she walked away and never came back to fix the problem. How great is this, nice outdoor patio, can order an entire liter of beer. The pretzel and mustard trio however fell so short on me. I would rather get a pretzel with fake cheese from the mall. Haven't tried the sausage however, could be the redeeming factor. read more

If you are a beer loving Canadian you should make Schweinhaas your stop in DT Bellingham. Among a tonne of amazing places (Bellingham rules) Schweinhaas is the place that is the farthest from establishments in Canada. I'm sitting here, in the sun, surrounded by happy people, their dogs and we're listening to music, drinking beer and enjoying bbq'd sausages in a former parking lot. In-effin-credible. Love it. Will always love it. Hopefully we can make something like this happen north of the border. Way to go Schweinhaas, I'm going to buy some shwag. read more

Excellent place to enjoy an outdoor experience with great beer! The pretzels are amazing and good wiener plates too. The horrible thing about this place is the lack of table side service. If you go there on a weekend afternoon plan to stand in the longest line ever, so order an extra liter of beer and an extra pretzel so you don't have to jump back in line anytime soon. read more

Schweinhaus is a fun summertime treat for us here in Bellingham. It is one of the few restaurants in town that allows guests a true open-air dining experience. By that I mean that the dining area is housed between a truck-bed roaster and the most charming Bavarian-style beer shack, where guests are free to seat themselves at wooden tables while ordering. Even though I don't drink beer, I can still say that I was fully satisfied with the meal I ordered. I got a combination plate with 1 Bratwurst sausage and a pretzel for $8.50. Although the pretzel wasn't any good (dry and bland), the Brat was probably the best I've ever had, and I can officially say that I know what all the buzz is about surrounding German sausage. With cheap food, a fun atmosphere, and a wonderful staff, I can say that this restaurant is a home run, and will definitely be going back soon to try the other styles of sausage offered. I strongly recommend Schweinhaus because I have a great time every time I go. The outdoor seating is perfect for summer evening and they have good beer at a low price, and sell it by the liter. There are two games of corn hole available to play for free. The only downside is the restrooms are porta potties. read more

I have been here many times and had a great time. Last time though as soon as we sat down the server accused us of smoking weed. We had not been smoking anything and the rest of the night she would come by our table and watch us. It did not make for a comfortable environment. I will never come here again. Started coming here when they first opened. The sausages are fabulous, and with a variety of different types. The beer is good, according to my husband. They even packaged up some brats, without the rest of the meal, in foil so we could enjoy a roast at home. Lovely staff. Winter is a drag here, but come better weather, this is the hangout place to see and be seen - it's right on the corner. read more

How long does it take to pour a beer at schweinhaus? Apparently 15 minutes. How long does it take for them to burn your food slightly beyond whats acceptable? About 20. This place doesn't have the right infrastructure or systems for a sit down restaurant like it tries to be. Why do they have a window if i cant walk up and order? Why make me wait at the table? Its just inefficient with the customers time. The food on my plate was already sloshed into the honey mustard and i don't like honey mustard. Also wasnt given any utensils to eat with. Thanks obama. Great place to visit when driving through Bellingham heading South. Love their soft pretzels.

We live in Seattle but were in Bellingham for business and stopped on a whim at this restaurant. We both ordered the cheese wurst and when it was brought to us without a bun, we thought, huh...weird. It turned out to be GREAT!! Not having the bun made us feel less overly full and we could really taste the food. Fabulous tasting sauerkraurt and beer. Will be returning. read more
