Well this is the exact opposite to the normal portland fancy exquisite unique made from hand milked cows delivered by bicycle and created by a one armed ice creamteer. This wont have artisan chocolates lini g the walls and origin stories of the cocoa farmers from across the globe. This will have ice cream, normal, thrifty type ice cream. Simple cones, and standard flavors. It will have chocolates, and gummies, and hard candies lining the walls. 10/lb about is standard fare for these types of treats ans a kids cone will set you back 2.75. Now why it gets a 4th star is for unique items. I saw gummy eggs, pink Cadillacs, mint coins, and just oddities i uave never seen. For that it gets a 4th star. Wont rival the awesome ice cream spots, but its a good stop off for sweets.

Cute little ice cream shop in the heart of downtown cannon beach. We stopped in this past weekend to get ice cream an hour and half before dinner reservations at wayfarer. I was so happy because I hotel was a quick and brisk 10 minute walk up the street. Boy! It sure was good. There is a pretty large selection of ice cream flavors; ranging from your classic choices to more daredevil choices. The shop carries tons of salt water taffy, candy, popcorn and other sweet treats. It's been a while since I got their taffy but I do prefer Bruce's candy shop more. Taffy always seems fresher and softer. The one thing that this place has going on is the waffle cones. The place always smells like sweet waffles when I walk by :) Definitely a place we always stop when we head to the beach!

    Nom nom Nom :)

Stop number three on our Oregon coastal adventure, Rockaway Beach. After grabbing some lunch at Cannon Beach we were in the mood for some ice cream, Yelp app in had, next stop was The Picnic Basket which just so happened to be a two minute walk to the beach. :) After making it to the shop I had tried the vanilla and one of the salted caramel flavors, they where both delicious! If was so so hard to choose a flavor because they all looked so good! They actually served Tillamook ice cream, which is made right up the block. Moral of the story, if your passing through or going to Rockaway Beach, stop at The Picnic Basket.

Much less crowded than the Cannon Beach location and their taffy was so fresh! Really nice guy working the register. Worth a stop!

Listen. If you ever find yourself wandering through the salt-kissed mist of Cannon Beach with sand…read morein your shoes and an ache for something sweet in your soul, go ahead and duck into Schwietert's Cones & Candy. It's a sugar-slinging time machine. Shelves groan under the weight of taffy in colors that don't occur in nature and fudge dense enough to warp gravity. I had the ice cream. Two scoops. Marionberry Pie and Mountain Huckleberry. Both from Tillamook, which around here is less a brand and more a benevolent dairy cult. These berries are like edible postcards from the Pacific Northwest. One bite and you're knee-deep in a foggy forest thinking you hear Bigfoot weeping quietly from joy. Of course the prices are high. You're in a town where the beach views are free and everything else makes up for it. The real gamble is who hands you your scoop. Some of us got generous lumps the size of a toddler's fist while others looked like they'd been served a sample. Such is life in a democracy. The lines wound throughout the store, but it moved along at a respectable clip. People were smiling. Sugar does that. All in all, this is the kind of place that doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is. A temple to nostalgia. A sanctuary for the sweet-toothed and sunburnt. Four stars. One star held in reserve for the day someone figures out how to standardize scoop sizes.

On our walk to brunch from where we parked we walked past this place. My granddaughter looked up…read moreand me and said "what's that smell?" Oh she knew what she was smelling. It was a mixture of candy, waffle cones and other goodies. But first we needed to have lunch and I promised we would be back for some ice cream. What's a vacation without a daily scoop of ice cream ESPECIALLY when you are on vacation with your GG? I made good on my promise. We walked in and were met with a display of various fudge, saltwater taffy galor but we were there for some ice cream. Which was located at the back of the store. Displayed in all its yumminess was various flavors of Tillamook ice cream. Granddaughter chose birthday cake. I had jamoca almond fudge and my son had a cherry jubilee. We found seating outside in a courtyard where we enjoyed our ice cream before our big drive home.
