Fifteen years ago, they were great, they made the thermal glass to replace the ones i needed for my old early '80s aluminum windows. The only company in Chicago that could make that specific thickness I needed without having to replace the entire windows. Fantastic. Today; I needed six thermal glass for for windows in my new home and since they are on the 2nd floor, to have them installed (as they said on their website). I was told they don't make glass anymore, just sell windows. That I should call a glass company (but who would install them? I was calling to get all-in-one service). Another example I guess of how America doesn't make things or repair old things. So I'll be getting my glass from Chicago Tempered and hiring a local handyman. We replaced all the windows on our first and second floors (14 total) with Climate Solutions vinyl windows. The old windows were original construction (70 years old) single-pane windows so our house was drafty even during mild winters. The difference after installation was night and day: cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter, and our utilities bills decreased. Everyone at Scientific Home was extremely professional. They were honest during our initial consultation and reliable when it came time to install. We have an infant in our home, so we were especially concerned about lead exposure, but they couldn't have been more careful about covering our furniture and cleaning when they were done. Around 9 months later the caulk seal around some of the windows had shrunk and began letting in cool air, but Victor offered to come out same day to fix it at no charge. We had a window that was about to fall out of the frame and needed to get it fixed fast! Scientific ordered the frames and in all we decided to do 8 windows. They were installed in December, and Scientific did it quickly. They minimized the time that cold air came into the house. We jut replaced 17 windows and have another 10+ to go next spring. Jon was a pleasure to work with, he was patient, and very helpful in answering all of our questions. They were our first estimate and he encouraged me to seek out other estimates as well, which we did. We went with Scientific because they were local, we liked the window, felt comfortable with the quote we received and trusted they had their own install teams who were used to working with old Chicago buildings. Side note we went with a beige window which I'm thrilled we did as it matches our solid oak woodwork much better than plain white. The cost was slightly higher than white and Jon was awesome to listen and trust me with this color variation. I know I would have hated the white. We're very happy thus far with our purchase. I also want to mention I couldn't believe how well the install went. Jay and his crew of one replaced 7 windows in one day with very little mess, they covered everything with plastic and did a great job cleaning up. I'm very glad I went with Scientific Home Services to replace my windows. I got quotes from two other companies and Scientific was the least expensive, but what really impressed me was the number of 5-star reviews online along with their lifetime transferable warranty. The windows seem to be very good quality, and the service was exceptional. They installed 9 windows and was going to install the 10th but then found a hornets nest nearby, which prohibited them from making the last installation. They scheduled another day to come back and replace the last window once the nest was removed. I was happy that they didn't charge me an extra service fee for having to make a second trip to install the last window. The installers were on-time and very professional. I had some issues finding a contractor to replace 7 windows in my condo on a 3rd floor of 125 yr old building ( high ceiling, custom measurements, etc) including a huge picture window. I called Victor today about our windows which weren't closing properly (vinyl casement windows). We are facing huge humidity/moisture issues on our 2nd floor and are worried that this is causing mold/humidity. When I called him, he spent significant time on the phone undertsanding the problem and giving me advice about how to approach the window manufacturer as they were being unfair and only giving me a 1-year warrantee since they were installed in 2012. After talking for awhile, he said he would still be willing to come out to assess even though he wasn't sure if it was a service their company would provide, but it wouldn't be for 2 weeks out as he's slammed. Then -- to my surprise -- he said, "nevermind, I'll squeeze you in" and he showed up within 25 minutes with another guy (Enrique, a very nice gentleman) ! I am so touched that despite his crazy schedule he had empathy for me and came on a late Friday afternoon despite having another appointments after. He assessed 1 window and then before I knew it, without a word, he was hanging outside our 2nd story window (with his colleague supporting him) fixing it! He then proceeded to start fixing the 2nd one and then I just asked him if he could fix all 7 and he did! Turns out that yes, the original installer did NOT do a good job -- but Victor was able to adjust things, lubricate things, even open a cap to release 7 years of water build up (come on, installer!!!?) and basically fix all 7 in just 1 hour which means we don't have to replace the windows which we were afraid to do. He just charged me the normal service fee of $120 which I found was super fair. I was super surprised by how responsive and helpful he was on such short notice and will definitely use him again for any window issues and recommend to all my friends. Thank you Victor!!! read more

I found this company though Yelp! Usually, when I do home renovation, I usually use home advisors or Thumbtack. We are happy about the work. They had great communication and finished with in limited time. When the contractor forgot to seal around window frames, and I complained it, he came back later and did his work. compared to the quote with other couple of vendors, I assume it is a proper labor fee and estimate. Hey Mark! Thanks for finally replying, since I never heard back from you or Jon. I'm not sure where you got the 30%+ refund number from, I'm no math expert but I said we were out $900, which would roughly be 10%. Honestly though since the windows are less then a year old we'd like a full refund, I mean you've only been out 6 times to repair/replace them. Just out of curiosity how big should the gaps in the caulk/windows be since you mentioned they were razor thin? An 1/8 a 1/4 a 1/16 on an inch? Also thanks for offering to drop off caulk for ME to install, I guess when you and Jon said you'd stand behind your product that meant me, cleaning up and doing it myself but to be fair my overtime rate is $74/hour so I'd expect that in return to do your work. Do the right thing and give us a refund. As I said before, I'll be happy to give you these windows back once we have another company replace them. read more
