Mr Larry Sconyers is usually sitting out on the porch greeting people as they come in and thanking them for dining there. We went tonight and as usual the food was great. My wife got the small chipped plate and I got the large. It is always more than you can eat and you get a pitcher of tea for your table. The waitress was very good and the food came out quickly. I was born and raised in Augusta and have been eating Sconyers ever since I can remember. Usually I would dine in, but I went to the drive thru today around 4:30 thinking I could beat the rush. I probably should have gone inside and ordered take out because there weren't any cars in the parking lot. Haha because we were all in the drive thru line. There were 10 cars in front of me and it took about 40 minutes before I got to the window. Once you're in line, you're committed. No turning around, just stuck. When I was leaving, there must've been 20 cars waiting(no joke). Drive thru was slammed! But I must say I love Sconyers hash! I ordered the Plantation Platter w/turkey(choice of turkey breast or chicken) and potato salad(choice of slaw or potato salad). The platter comes w/pulled pork, pulled beef, 2 ribs, and hash and rice for $25.85. I also ordered an extra side of hash for $3. There was enough food for 3 people to share. I'm from Florida so I'm use to my bbq having a smoky taste to it. The chipped pork was dry with no taste to it, coleslaw wasn't sweet at all but they put sweet pickles on top, yuck. First if you have never been here - look at the pictures of the food and the place. Especially of the hash. I had been here and knew what to expect, but the family we were with did not. Even though they wanted to go here. I will also say, BBQ is a very personal choice. Especially of what type of BBQ you like. Normally I am not a big fan of Sconyers. For several reasons. But I do like the homey type of decor, how the staff is dressed and just the overall friendliness of the staff. Some of the changes that I saw this time - no loaves or half loaves of bread. You get two slices of bread saran wrapped. The plates small or large come half filled with hash and rice. I avoid the hash because it is well not delicious to me. Just to me mind you. I always get just rice. I did ask if they had any butter as they had other condiments on the table, but I was told we do not serve butter here. I chose the coleslaw - which was delicious. Needed salt though and yes salt was on the table. I chose something I never had this time, and it was the smoked turkey. Here I was basing this restaurant off the Pork BBQ which I was not a fan of. The Turkey was absolutely delicious. Tender and MOIST! I will admit I was surprised how moist it was. I did have plenty of meat, so I took it home and had a very good turker sandwich the next day. So I would Highly recommend the turkey! Something we did not notice until when we left was that the seats were so dirty, we all left with dirt on us. Come on Sconyers! I know you have this look about you but clean the seats! Will I be back. Sure - if someone comes into town and wants to try it. For me - it will be the turkey again and I recommend that. read more

I love Sconyers Bar-B-Q, I just picked up a large T-loin plate with a small bag of peppermint,everything was great but I wish I had known that now you only get one cup of sauce with each plate if you want more it's $.50 per cup and that's fine except they should put up a sign telling people it's one cup per plate,the $.50 is fine the problem was driving 20 miles home and 20 miles back to Sconyers and then paying $.50 for 4 cups I just wish I had known I would have bought more to begin with! read more

The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing, either - the food was relatively bland and unseasoned, and the provided sauces did not sufficiently compensate for this. Of the two sauces provided: Hot and mild, the hot sauce was incredibly salty and not very hot, and the mild sauce was slightly more pleasant with a mustardy tang. I ordered the small Turkey plate and the Turkey was not entirely dry, but it was not exceptional. It was relatively unseasoned and the sauces were not able to bring it up to a standard I would expect from a restaurant. The coleslaw appears to be made in-house, but like the other food, it was rather bland despite it appearing fresh. Additionally, there were three whole pickles placed on top of it. A tad eccentric given the performance of the other food. Although I ordered potato salad with my coleslaw, I got a dish that had white rice and something that looked like refried beans on top. Again, practically unseasoned, but not inherently bad. The worst part about this experience was the plastic-wrapped bread. Why are these slices of bread plastic-wrapped and delivered to my table rather than warmed up on a plate? It looks like it's been stored away to save money, yet the bread itself appears store-bought anyway. I would not recommend this place as a restaurant to eat at since the food generally does not meet a standard that I would consider appropriate to dine out at. Overall uninspired food. The ambiance is humble and resembles a log cabin, but the restaurant looks like a house from the outside and the parking lot is a pile of rocks and gravel. The place is overall a little bit strange and the food is uninspired. The service was kind, however. I just don't recommend this place. read more

Love the atmosphere and the place is rustic pretty. The food is good. As for a BBQ place, it doesn't really hit the mark. I'd go back, try the turkey or ribs. The potato salad is good. I liked the hash with rice, even though I'm not really sure what it was - not really a hash. The pickles are bread & butter, and it comes with 2 slices of fresh potato bread. There isn't a vegetable on the menu. I posted 2 pictures, looking the same but one is the small bbq pork plate. It comes with no bbq sauce, you have a choice of mild or spicy. It was good, but I like Big Ed's BBQ. Shane's even (no atmosphere though). I'll go back if someone suggests it, but I wouldn't drive out of my way. You can though, it is nice, you might love it. When Claude and Adeline Sconyers could no longer make a living at farming they decided to give their hobby a try.  With their children grown and no one to help them on the farm, they opened Sconyers Bar-B-Que. So on my quest to find great BBQ we tried Sconyers. The Plantation Platter (House Specialty) (1/4 Chicken or Sliced Turkey , 2 Meaty Ribs, Chopped Brisket and Chipped Pork) we had the chicken not the Turkey and we ordered coleslaw. The ribs were fall off the bone good and the chopped brisket was fantastic. I was not a fan of the coleslaw but overall this is a great place for a BBQ dinner. read more

We have been told about this bbq place for almost 2 years, so we were excited to visit. The grounds are lovely. The koi pond is wonderful (we've had one) but it needs a good filter system. The koi are fat and happy, though! Our server was great. Other employees were great, also; very friendly. Restaurant was clean, and bathroom was clean! Since moving to the area, we've made it our mission to find the best bbq around. So, 20# later, we've got the list down to 2. It definitely is not this place. SO not good. Sadly not good. Sloppy goop gooped on our plates. No flavor except all the ground pepper on it. We were so disappointed. I don't know why people are raving about this place. Maybe we got a bad night? Maybe, but we are not willing to spend the prices we paid to eat there again. BTW: #1 is Railroad in Columbia, SC. OMGOSH! #2 is Pot Smoker in Aiken, SC. How does this place still exist? It's like a gimmick from the 60s. Cinder block bathroom stalls, and employees in overalls. Food cooked so long its unrecognizable. There are plenty of places that do a great job with barbecue and smoked meats so I don't understand the appeal of this place.
