Went there today with my girlfriend got a few Scooby. Dogs was so good pickle and tomato were super fresh and the relish is not that fake stuff. got a chocolate shake that was delicious and one of the guys was nice enough to give us a free shake of the new Reesie's flavor they got pretty rare to see some of that kindness will be back again soon. read more

We went inside to order our food and Dumpy Trump was blaring on the TV. Politics have no place in a food business. Made us sick before we got our food. I was curious to try this place, but I wish I would've checked the reviews on here first. The food was over priced, and at best it was sub par. My kids noted we could've all eaten at Chipotle for cheaper and had better quality food. I paid $89 for 2 chili dogs, 2 double dogs, a chicken sandwich, and 3 orders of fries. Some reviews have noted that they had diarrhea after eating here. That has not hit me yet, but I do have some rumbling and churning going on. This place is worse than HELL itself! The food is mad expensive and it tasted like ass. I felt like I was in an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. I spent $68.00 on just three items and three drinks. My kids had just finished playing baseball and they were hungry. The place is dirty and nasty It smells like pure ass and must in there. I had to repeat my order four times and that's so embarrassing. My kid is allergic to pickles and my other doesn't like onions so I asked for the food without but that didn't happen. Over $34 for a foul tasting single cheeseburger (w/ bacon, onion, and mustard), small fries, cup of cheese, and medium root beer. Aside from the criminal cost of this regrettable experience, the food quality is something the Health Department might need to look into. The obviously frozen burger patty had the texture and flavor profile of press board. Half the bun was hard. The aftertaste is that of a hot, wet dumpster and bad decisions. I'm considering scraping a few layers off the inside of my mouth and using Malört to rinse the taste away. The fries were limp and flavorless. You can literally taste how sad the potatoes are to have been sent here. If you're considering coming here to eat, I'd suggest having your mouth undergo radiation therapy instead. Scooby's is not what it use to be. The Scooby's in West Chicago charged me $22 for a hot dog and a medium malt. The malt was &14.96. When i drove away , I called to say I think I was overcharged . Your cheeto jesus is gonna lower prices for all Americans. Except scoobys! I will never go back. Who actually repeatedly goes there? I have not been to Scooby's in years, I used to go there all the time when we would go to Cascade Drive-in in high school. My niece wanted hotdogs for her birthday lunch and we chose to drive to Scooby's! We had the greatest experience! The staff was very kind to us, the food was hot and delicious, and most importantly, the four year old birthday girl had a blast! I'm assuming the owner - gave her a free sweatshirt and even a free shake! I read through some of the reviews and was absolutely shocked at some of the negative reviews, because we had so much fun! I will definitely be coming back very soon and supporting this business during these hard Covid times! Thank you so much Mr. hot dog man! You truly made our four year old's day! read more

Established in 1985.

Scoobys Hot Dogs was established in 1985. Mr. Scooby opened up his first store at the age of 17. Originally called Scoobys Red Hots because of the type of dog he used. Vienna then came into the picture and offered a custom Scooby dog. After the decision of taste Mr. Scooby wanted to go bigger! The 7 inch Scooby hot dog was born. While most still use the traditional 5 1/2 inch dog and frozen fries; Scooby keeps it big and simple. Fresh cut fries, Foot long Polish smothered in grilled onions & let's not forget the 44oz Scooby cup with free refills for life! Also with one of the oldest next to Coke our Green River. 15 stores later Mr. Scooby retired at the age of 35; but the Hot Dog Man couldn't stay away for long. He prides himself in working hard and giving back to the community. For over 20 years he has donated his food & services with out hesitation

Finely chopped beef, soft French bread, it can't get much better. I got the hot giardiniera, which was just right. I saved half of the sandwich for my better half to share in my joy when I got home. She took a bite, rolled her eyes in delight, and said "YUM!" After a few seconds, she was running around the house screaming that her mouth was on fire and calling me names. This "hot dog man" who is from Chicago calls himself. Lol ok, mr hot dog man, your food is wayyyy overpriced for one. Secondly, tried a polish sausage which normally come on a steamed hot dog bun (and was expecting that). So I ordered a maxwell street polish with mustard and grilled onions and it came to almost $10 without fries or a drink. I then asked why it was so much and the hot dog man who apparently is the polish sausage man because he said they make their own footlong polishes. Ok, so it's a footlong I asked him , which he said yes. So I'm thinking it's on a footlong hotdog bun right ?! Nope!! It came on a 6inch piece of shitty French bread with both ends popping out of the bun and smothered in messy , runny mustard. This polish that he said, "they were famous for" didn't even taste like a polish. It literally tasted like an Italian sausage.... Before that I came in last week and tried their hot dog special and was charged $.60 for sport peppers!!! In addition to that the hot dog buns were mush. Literally mush! Finally as I was patiently waiting an ungodly amount of time for my food to be ready (a huge order of 2 hotdogs) I noticed an older man -balding , possibly the owner going over to his very expensive jeep wrangler. No wonder why he has to charge so much!!! This is the same guy who was being a douchebag to me the other day when I questioned the price of the $10 "infamous polish sausage that everyone talks about!" Hey buddy, mr hot dog man, the only thing anyone is talking about in nearly every review is how much of cuckhold you are for ripping off your customers, screaming at Mexicans in a dominant Mexican neighborhood, and kicking black people out of your store. You're a piece of work and should just retire already OR let someone run your business the right way and step down. May be a decorative place but these people need to be whipped!!! WAY WAY over priced for ok quality food and never going back. Given the benefit of the doubt, I was charged $23 dollars yes $23 for just two chili cheese dogs and one medium milkshake no joke, that would mean they had to have charged me at most $10 for the milkshake and you can do the math for two dogs, you'd think I was at a sit down eat restaurant, it doesn't add up. I should have read the facebook and yelp reviews before going and should have just gone to portillos for a fresh meal. I went to Scooby's last night for dinner. After reading all the negative reviews, I thought I'd give it a try. BIG MISTAKE!!! I ordered a hot dog and fries. There was a cockroach in my food. I went back to show them how unacceptable and unsanitary this was and the owner (Joe) started to scream at me and tell me I put the cockroach in food to get my money back. Scoobys is a great place to go and get a quick meal. Food is always fresh and they give you a generous amount of fries. The only downfall is that it is expensive for a hot dog joint. An average meal is going to cost about $9. We are a family of 4 and can not get a meal under $25. I do prefer them to portillos. read more

Since our first visits, which were ONLY to pickup some corndogs, we have ventured further into their menu items. THIS is SIGNIFICANTLY better than just a good "hot dog joint!" The menu items SEEM routine but the thought that has gone into these menu items completely won us over. When you order JUST GET IT AS DESCRIBED, because it certainly appears that great thought went into the selections. i am not posting pictures as there is no need. Everything looks the same as it does on the menu.

We were regulars under the old ownership- so todays visit was the first time we were trying with…read morethe new ownership. As always, when a restaurant you once loved gets new owners, you never know what to expect. However, I was pleasantly surprised! The food tasted almost exactly like how I remembered. We got two cheese dogs, one with just cheese and ketchup and one with cheese, ketchup, mustard relish and tomato. We also got cheese fries and onion rings (onion rings not pictured). The portions are nice and a small order for the onion rings and cheese fry were the perfect size for my mom and I to split. The cheese sauce is not just an artificial nacho cheese and was the perfect compliment. The onion ring batter was not greasy and had the perfect crunch. The inside was clean and updated. This is the standard "hole in the wall" set up that is perfect for locals. It's not crowded with tables, since there are about 6 true booths and then higher tops along the back wall. I could imagine it may be difficult to find seating on a Friday or Saturday night when it's busier, so be prepared. The pricing is a little different than it used to be, but everything in the world is now more expensive so can't complain! That being said- the pricing isn't ridiculous, it was $26 for all our food and drinks. I'd say this is very doable considering the area we live in isn't super cheap. The service was quick considering the food is made to order and not just sitting out. We waited about 10 minutes for our food and that was with 3 orders in front of us. My only recommendations would be: 1. I wish when I checked out they would have told me the bun for the cheese dog is plain and not poppy seed. My mom ordered a Chicago style dog with cheese sauce so hers was poppyseed, whereas mine was just plain. The food was still tasty though so I'm not upset! 2. I wish the cheese sauce cup was just slightly larger but there was still a decent amount 3. I was a little confused upon arrival because the menu wraps around the front of the cashier- not a big deal, I just lacked awareness :) Overall, my food was great, the quality was there, I walked out full and satisfied and had a great experience! They updated the…read moreinside with new tables, added booths, etc. The owner was working the register and was overly acommodating and beyond nice. This was our first time back since the new owner took over so we were skeptical but were pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the inside, the updates and the awesome quality of food. The owner made us feel like he's known us for years with joking around and making us feel at home!!! Happy to have this place back up and running again like it once was years ago:):):) This will def be back on our out to eat list again:)

Lots of locals come in; families, friendly folk, workers, and couples bringing their kids regularly. And a place I come back to regularly. I've had the double cheeseburgers... spectacular. The tacos are excellent too, especially with a little onion, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime. Of course, you can't go wrong with a Chicago-style hot dog, always great. The gyros are savory, flavorful and plenty. They really hit the spot. There's so much meat that I sometimes pop over to ALDI afterward just to grab a flatbread and make a second gyro from the leftovers. And I always ask for extra tzatziki sauce to dip my fries in. All in all, a great local spot. They're always adding new items to the menu. They now have handmade tamales made in-house, great masa wrapped in a proper corn husk.
