i grew up in maine every summer we would be there spending time in our second home on ocean ave. and scoop deck was a staple of my diet, maybe thats why i was fat in highschool who knows. but home made waffle cones with little marshmellows at the bottom so the icecream wont drip out the bottom is the best part. they have an awesome short hand system. im pretty sure its cash only. the only thing that confuses me and i have never asked this in my oh 23 years of going there. why is the double kiddie 2 half scoops. and the small 1 whole scoop (which is really 2 half scoops anyway) and they are different prices? i never know and if some one will message me that would be great. also the topings are good and they have hot dogs as well. the portions are also large but who knows whats the better deal a small or a double kiddie. read more

I vacation in Wells every year with my fiancé's family. I was finally able to make it to scoop deck after hearing rave reviews. The ice cream was amazing but my experience with the staff was terrible. I ordered a peanut butter chocolate flavor and when it was ready the girl working said "chocolate peanut butter swirl." I was unaware if it was mine and just asked the girl a couple questions because I didn't want to take someone else's a ice cream. She then decided to get very loud and rude and asked why I didn't want it and if there was some other flavor I wanted because this was the one I asked for. I was with 6 other friends who all were disgusted with how she spoke to me. I understand everyone is under staffed these days and that these times are probably stressful and overwhelming. But treating a non confrontational customer that way is unacceptable. I would not recommend unless you enjoy being publicly humiliated in front of other people just to get a scoop of ice cream. read more

The Scoop Deck is a must-visit for vacations in Wells, ME. They have so many flavors -- and although I haven't tried them ALL, the ones I have tried are delicious. Good portion sizes -- I read on their Facebook that they now have a "Lil' Bit" size, which is smaller than a kiddie, in case you're one of the rare vacationers that are watching their figure. The Scoopers are all very friendly and speedy, they work together to take care of your order and ensure the line moves quickly. I suggest trying one of the more interesting flavors -- you wont be disappointed! read more

Very good ice cream, great service, quick even with huge number of people since they have so many workers, good outdoor seating. My tip is to get a heated brownie with the ice cream... some flavors are good alone (e.g. green monster, Boston blackout, peppermint stick) while others needed more chocolate (e.g., snickers, and almond joy) but everything is better with a heated brownie and hot fudge. Another favorite is having heated apple crisp with Graham central ice cream... great combo. read more

Iconic spot in wells , me. I came here before kids , with my kids and will continue to bring my grandchildren. Newly renovated with more parking and more registers this is a must place to get great Ice cream. Portions are very good and prices are just ok . AMAZING ICE CREAM! For those who enjoy ice cream as much as I do you will love this place. When visiting the Wells Beach area in July, we stop here at least a few times before going back home. This place has an enormous menu and enormous portions! A small is like a large! The only thing I don't like about it is that if its a hot night out be prepared to get eaten alive by bugs. Because the "deck" is so small, it can only fit a few handfuls of people inside, and the line is always out the door. Bring bug spray! read more

I'm rating this based on what I expect most people's experience will be, not what mine was. Portions were absolutely huge, and there were too many unique flavors to choose from. Thankfully, there were descriptions for all of these choices, too. The only problem we had was we arrived just after Labor Day, and they were out of approx. a dozen flavors. Then, there were several not marked as out but revealed as such when I asked for them. No question I was very disappointed in so many missing flavors, but despite this, I still managed to find a flavor I'd never had before which captured my interest, so we'd certainly go back. I hope that the inventory shortage was based on a busy holiday weekend, not an off-season strategy in anticipation of fewer patrons. I will revise my rating to 1-star if I discover this was intentional. read more

This is some great ice cream. Very friendly and very busy. The place must have at least 50 flavors- with great bases mixed with delicious brownies, salty caramels and all kind of other yummies- as well as yogurts, sherbets and soft ice cream. Scoops are huge - a "double kiddy" fills a waffle cone with more to spare. And if you like strawberry shortcake, they make a great biscuit version that you can get with their ice cream (no fresh strawberries though). Cash only but fair prices. Will be part of our Maine beach vacation from now on. read more

Loved this place. I had the Ye Olde Chocolate Caramel Salt (or something like that, the names are crazy) and it was creamy chocolate ice cream with caramel drizzle all through. The portions are good. The ice cream is very creamy. Spoons could be a better quality (mine kept bending due to the hard nature of the ice cream) but other than that five stars all the way! read more

OK, I was talked into going back by a guard at our RV resort. She said to try the $5.00 hotdog meal that comes with a small (but very good sized) ice cream cone. It ended up being $5.55- no chips, fries, etc. This came with a small soda (about half a can's worth of soda plus ice) and probably the world's smallest hotdog. It was another $1.45 to upgrade to the waffle cone. I ended up paying around $7.50-8 for the "meal". On the plus side- the cone was huge. On the down side- I shouldn't have spent the money on the hotdog and soda- NOT WORTH IT. They also let you sample any flavor- which I should've done. The bubble gum ice cream had good flavor, but there were very few pieces of gum and it crumbled into unchewable nothingness in my mouth.....so much for nostalgia. It is a cute shop, but I favor quality over atmosphere, gimmicks and tourist favorites. At least I tried. read more

Best spot in Wells!! My family and I frequent the scoop deck a little too often! Great selections of delicious ice cream. Kinda of pricey for an ice cream shop but you get what you pay for! Huge homemade waffle cones filled with whatever flavor you choose! Don't like waffle cones? They have sugar cones and cake style cones as well as heaping dishes! This place always draws a crowd but have they have service down to a science! The lines move very quickly so don't be afraid of the huge lines! I also like to make a note that it is cash only! There is a convenient ATM right outside in the parking lot. If you are ever in Wells beach don't miss a stop at the scoop deck! read more

I've spent a week in Wells each year for several years now, and make it a point to get to the Scoop Deck as many days as I can each visit. Servings are very generous for delectable ice cream. Simply the best ice cream you can have. They don't even need to give out such large portions the ice cream is so good (But hey, who doesn't like a lot of ice cream). Our favorite ice cream shop! We always stop in (sometimes twice a day) to enjoy their wonderful ice cream. Sometimes the line is long but the service is fast and efficient and fun.
