I'm not usually one to go out of my way for ice cream but something about the Torched S'more was calling my name. I ordered it with a vanilla base and after finishing it, I can definitely say it was worth it. The graham cracker sprinkle on top of the chocolate drizzle combined with the perfectly toasted marshmallow sent me to a campfire of sweet pleasures one can only dream of. We also ordered a scoop of Golden Oreo which in retrospect, would've matched perfectly with the S'mores delight. Scoops has potential to be a great ice cream shop in the heart of downtown Visalia, but it falls short in several regards. Over the summer, I've frequented scoops as the location and atmosphere are unique and fun. It is in a great spot, and has friendly staff behind the counter. Unfortunately, the ice cream itself is intensely unremarkable. Flavors at Scoops are either minimally flavored creamy milk or absolute hydrogen sugar bombs. There is no in between. I did enjoy one flavor, but I inquired the scooper if they made it in house but was disappointed to learn it was one of their imported flavors. Additionally, the dirty sodas are not so dirty. They are simply overpriced sodas. Moreover, the staff is helpful and prompt, but management fails to realize that a single scooper for a busy night sours the experience for all. Long lines and wait times are easy to build up especially when the more involved items are being ordered. A few times I've heard some people tell the scoopers that they know the owner, at which I've questioned the point. Odd. Speaking on owners, of the times I've visited Scoops I've seen them once. His contribution was yelling at his scoopers. It created an awkward environment and longer wait times. For being vocal and seemingly involved in their community, I expected the owners to be more involved and professional. Poor scoopers. We came in over the weekend and we tried the brownie ice cream delicious it's a must try. It's a little spot in downtown Visalia. They have a I believe like a bar in there they have a coffee shop and then they have an ice cream shop and I know they have another shop but anyways it's it's cute and there's 1234. I believe five like stores inside one facility but it's really clean. it's cute. We decided to get an ice cream and it was delicious and my daughter ordered a one scoop in a cone and I don't know the guy that helped us ended up putting a graham cracker or some graham crackers and marshmallows on there which I thought was pretty cute. My daughter probably requested it, but I don't remember she was happy. I'm happy. It was a cute little spot. I will definitely be coming back for that brownie ice cream. I was able to sample a few choices before making my selection; which was pretty cool. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Very casual atmosphere. After posting my initial review with our dissatisfaction with the service,the owner personally apologized and invited us back to his shop. We were given a $25 gift card for our next visit to which we were sincerely grateful for. We stopped by during the week in which we were pleased to see others enjoying the business . The place was quite busy , clean and well maintained. The employees were definitely very welcoming and attentive of the customers. We ordered our drinks and in less than about 5 minutes our order was ready. We decided to stay and check out the place and the people just kept coming. They definitely can't get enough of this place! Probably the worst handmade ice cream I've ever had. I tried to understand their motivation for the finished product and literally nothing was good. The ice cream choices are muddled by the amount of sugar trying to achieve what's lacking in flavor only to realize they use really low end ingredients which explains the less than ideal experience. You're telling me you can concoct any flavor and the best you can dream up is blue Cookie Monster, not even using house baked chocolate chip cookies but chips ahoy? Not a fan of blue dye, was told it's natural, so why on Gods green earth would you put the worst, cheapest, artificial ingredients in your "quality" ice cream? It doesn't make sense. The price is affordable, but with the amount of overrun "ratio of volume to air" you might as well go get a half gallon blue bunny. There's no creaminess to the ice cream. It has way too much air incorporated into it. The customer service was ok, the girl scooping the ice cream likes to put her head inside the freezer with whatever flavor you asked for and then hand it to you. I hope they consider putting quality ingredients in their ice cream, pulling back on the sugar and turning down the overrun. It has potential, but doubt they'll change. I'd give them 1 star but it wasn't like a fly was in anything or the customer service was bad, their ice cream is just bad... Update: after realizing how much you're loved with a whole 19 reviews, and after understanding your customers have dog crap for taste AND after much reviewing in myself... your ice cream still sucks! read more
