Handel's never lets me down. Every time I walk up the smell of fresh waffle cones hits me and I already know it's going to be a good day. The ice cream is rich, flavorful, and you can tell it's made with real ingredients and a lot of love. They also give you generous scoops, so come hungry. I tried the chocolate PB brownie on this visit. It was incredible. The texture is so creamy and the flavor balance is spot-on without being overly sweet. My kid got the birthday cake and said it might be the best flavor she's ever had. Service is always friendly and patient, even when the line gets long. They let you try samples and never rush you. Prices are fair for the quality and portion size so come hungry and bring a friend. Five stars from me, easy. If you love legit ice cream, this place needs to be on your list. Outside seating only so be prepared to sit in your vehicle. Well worth it tho.

Handel's ice cream was delicious! I got the strawberry cheesecake chunk I highly recommend, the chunks of cheesecake were amazing! My husband got the pretz caramel ice cream and a scoop of ohhh dough both were so good the pretzel ice cream had chocolate coated pretzel balls in it! My daughter got the blue monster, it was really tasty too lots of cookie dough and chocolate cookies. The price for all of us was about 20$ and the portions were very good. Limited seating but lots of people tend to hang around the building or near their cars/parking lot. Lines look long but they go by fast we waited maybe 5-10 minutes for our ice cream.

The icecream is really good but I was very disappointed with their service. We ordered a sampler and a large shake. The cup was a lot bigger than we expected and I'm not sure if the cup was too flimsy or the lid wasn't on right but it spilled in our truck. When I called they said I'd have to pay for a new one since it happened in our vehicle they're not responsible. I get it but it would have been nice to be offered a replacement. $13 down the drain, didn't even get to try it.

First time here, great place for ice cream lots of options, fast service, there was a long line that moved fairly fast. Very family friendly from What I could observe.

Food is amazing! I love love love handel's ice cream! Everything is made fresh daily. Best ice cream flavors. They even have ice cream for dogs. Service is usually pretty good, sometimes there is long wait times though. You order and wait outside which is fine as long as its not too hot.

First time trying this place. There was hardly anyone in line and the service was super quick! The staff member that helped us was very nice. We tried the four scoop sampler for $7.25. Coffee chocolate chip & mint chocolate chip were our favorites!

Ice cream was amazing but for the love of cow PLEASE wet the ice cream scooper!! We were maybe 5th in line on a Friday evening (we figured Friday night - it's just busy). Once we got up to the counter we waited almost 15 min just to order! There were 4 staff members fulfilling ice cream orders, quite a few customers waiting. But I honestly feel like a better system would've helped so much. They took foreverrrr to fill a cup/cone because ice cream was sticking to the scooper. Please just wet the scooper. Maybe have one person taking orders and the other 3 fulfilling to go and in house orders? Idk, it just made no sense. Luckily the ice cream was really good. But I would definitely avoid if there's a line!

4 scoop sampler. Top right (orange) - clockwise: Orange dream cream, French silk pie, rocky mocha blast, peach

Big selection of flavors that seems to rotate since they have "seasonal" flavors and also differs depending on location. Flavors range from classic to new/unique and can cater to a wide range of palettes. You order at a window and pick up from the same one. Open seating patio with about 6-7 tables and chairs covered by a tent. Very casual setting, all outdoors. I got peach, orange dream cream, rocky mocha blast, and French silk pie. Peach was delicious and refreshing, not too sweet. Orange dream cream is basically orange creamsicle and a nice balance. Rocky mocha and French silk was as it should taste. Nothing too special.

Friendly staff , line was long but moved very quickly. They have an outside seating. Kids enjoyed ice cream. They have plenty of choices to choose from.

SOOOOO GOOOD!! We all looked all the flavors. Service was friendly and fast. There's only outside seating which is too cold in winter and going to be too hot in the summer. So I wish there was a better covered area to sit and enjoy. The ice cream though is great!

    Ice cream!!

Ask the Community - Handel's Homemade Ice Cream

When is Visalia location opening? It is taking so long was suppose to open in December of last year I heard.

It's already open. Just be ready, it gets crowded and the line up system isn't great. The window you go to should be the window you pick up your items from.

Over the summer, I've frequented scoops as the location and atmosphere are unique and fun. It is in a great spot, and has friendly staff behind the counter. Unfortunately, the ice cream itself is intensely unremarkable. Flavors at Scoops are either minimally flavored creamy milk or absolute hydrogen sugar bombs. There is no in between. I did enjoy one flavor, but I inquired the scooper if they made it in house but was disappointed to learn it was one of their imported flavors. Additionally, the dirty sodas are not so dirty. They are simply overpriced sodas. Moreover, the staff is helpful and prompt, but management fails to realize that a single scooper for a busy night sours the experience for all. Long lines and wait times are easy to build up especially when the more involved items are being ordered. A few times I've heard some people tell the scoopers that they know the owner, at which I've questioned the point. Odd. Speaking on owners, of the times I've visited Scoops I've seen them once. His contribution was yelling at his scoopers. It created an awkward environment and longer wait times. For being vocal and seemingly involved in their community, I expected the owners to be more involved and professional. Poor scoopers. Scoops has potential, yet the atmosphere and friendly staff are hindered by mediocre ice cream and incompetent upper management.

I like milk and its by-products, especially ice cream so this place seemed like a natural place to visit. And, even though it was small, and even though it is not in anyone's map of California places to see before one dies, this place was a tourist attraction that I will remember till the day I can no longer enjoy milk and the mustache it leaves behind. When we arrived to the spot there was a sole attendant, his name was Anthony and he was endearing to the max. I explained to him an abridge story of our road trip and why we made it a spot to visit. He was like really, like he could not believe that this was an intentional stop on a multi hour road trip. I was like, in my mind, this is not a Thrifty ice cream run bro, this is like a milk experience, of course it is a spot on a road trip. What I did say was like--- you are wearing a uniform, (like one of those that (I Love) Lucy waited for in the 1950's), and there was a window into a factory with workers producing milk, and you have souvenirs, thus the joint is a stop to engage with, a stop to plan for, a stop that naturally fits in someone's road trip's tour. After I said a version of all of this, his smile and eyes became wide, like he really was understanding that his presence and this joint was not just a local milk joint but could be a pit stop that can go white with fame. My intention was to get a milkshake but Anthony explained that they did not sell any. I mean I accepted it quickly, but with some lament as a milkshake is my favorite ice-cream by-product, but I made due with what I could. First, I got a chocolate milk in a bottle. Anthony was kind enough to open it for me. I used to be a big fan of chocolate milk, cause it was a staple in the school's free lunch program and I always found it refreshing and sweet and cooling. Which makes me want to define the difference between refreshing and cooling in terms of taste. I guess refreshing makes one go ahhh like after taking a sip of cold cola, and something cooling makes someone feel the crisp of cold within the body, like eating a chilled lemon paleta/popsicle. And on this day, I drank a bottle of milk and found it to be a nostalgic snack down to the last sip. It is important to note that Denise noticed that they had flavors like Orange Blossom milk, and banana ice cream flavors. So this places dares enough to think outside the box or should I say milk carton? Anthony was also lovely enough to bring out samples of their packaged ice cream. I will be honest I cannot remember all the flavors I tried but I think there was cookie and cream. And the ice cream tasted rich, deep, and fresh, like it been churned recently for pure enjoyment. Like it was meant to be good first, then sold next. And thus at its core it was artisan, not mass produced. I guess that is why they explain their products to be "farm direct." Since I could not get a shake or a cone, I decided to get one of their ice cream sandwiches. I went with what I tasted and knew to be good---- the cookies and cream. This decision was also based on the cookies they used. I reviewed the picture but the cookie was not listed. I ate the sandwich outside in the car, and every bite was a morsel of smooth crunch and velvety ice cream. It was familiar and new, it was reason enough to want to visit the place again. In fact I tried too, on the way back from the road trip but it was closed on that day. Too bad, I have put it on my return spots, I found it to be that wonderful, but again milk, ice cream, and all that it stems from it, I am a fan of, so it makes sense for me. But until then, I got the sweatshirt I got from this place to remember it!

The upstairs has an open seating concept, with only a few tables reserved ahead of time. The atmosphere strikes a nice balance between upscale and casual, with low lighting, large comfortable chairs, and an intimate feel that's perfect for a date night or relaxed dinner. Keep in mind that the prices are higher than downstairs, but so is the menu. We started with a White Linen cocktail, which was incredibly refreshing on a hot summer afternoon and the perfect way to kick off our visit. We originally planned to order the Burrata Caprese with Fresh Basil, but they were sold out--which must mean it's a popular choice! Instead, we opted for the Maple Glazed Brussels Sprouts, and they were absolutely delicious. The dish featured thinly sliced Serrano chilis that added just the right amount of heat. The crunch from the walnuts paired perfectly with the feta cheese and balsamic reduction. Best of all, the Brussels sprouts were cooked perfectly--crispy and tender without being soggy in the slightest. We loved this unique take on Brussels sprouts and can't wait to return to try more of the menu. Mia was our server and was both friendly and helpful, making our experience even better.

I took some stars off due to poor service, this time around, food preparation and restaurant hours of operation. The restaurant closes promptly at 9:00 pm, so typical of Visalia dining. We got there at 8:00 pm and it took a good 15-20 mins for waitstaff to take our order. We ordered two appetizers and cocktails and the food came before our cocktails. So, unbeknownst to us, we literally had about 25-30 minutes to eat and drink...ridiculous and unacceptable to not be informed of our short dining time. The restaurant lights came on promptly at 9ish, pretty much informing dining customers that it was time to wrap it up. But prior to that, while still clearly eating and drinking, waitstaff kept coming by trying to pickup our appetizer plates (they still had plenty of food left & our drinks were still full)..like I said rushing us out. It was definitely a poor experience. The appetizer of fried calamari was a miss, not crispy and clumps of calamari stuck together. The sweet potato fries were limp and not hot. Our cocktails were delicious. I'm so disappointed that I had such a poor experience at the Hayloft.
