Seriously the best ice cream on the planet! The Orange icecream uses real orange juice & you can see the pulp in it. They have other flavors, daily specials but I always get Orange. I love all their food, the flavors are amazing. Such a great deal to get a lunch 1/2 sandwich, chips, drink & icecream for $14-16. Can't beat it! Plus its made fresh. The whole building & ambiance speaks country farm life. I live an hour away but when I'm in the area, its a requirement to stop in. read more

I have a split 1/5 star review. I'm not sure what happened with my lunch order. I was baffled when I got my sandwich and had a lone slice of meat? it was one of the saddest sandwiches I've ever seen. The closest flavor analogy is a Dreamsicle, with vanilla ice cream and orange Popsicle. It's soft serve, with the tiny fresh orange vesicles so it's clearly made from fresh oranges. Yum! The restaurant is an old house that sits right next to an orange grove The only downside is that the indoor eating area is small, so if they're at all busy you'll have to eat outside, which in the valley can be quite cool or quite hot. Great food. Even though this roadside sandwich shop in Strayhmore was packed for lunch on a Saturday, ordering went fairly quickly and they were completed quickly for pick up too. I got the lunch special for $15 which was a full sandwich with all fixings, chips, a drink and ice cream! I chose the orange ice cream which was totally scrumptious. I haven't had orange ice cream like that since I was quite a bit younger. My sandwich was very moist and on a good substantial white bread roll which was very fresh. Strong enough to hold the sandwich filling and not fall apart. Delicious with Mayo, mustard onion lettuce and tomatoes on my tri tip. Plenty of seating indoors and also outside at umbrella tables if you want shade. Truly a winner. They have salads too. read more

I have ordered ahead of time twice online and when I went to pick up my order, they tell me the daily flavor has been sold out. I usually get the Tri tip sandwich combo that comes with a choice of a drink, chips and their signature ice cream (orange) or the ice cream of the day (the iced cream flavor changes daily and a calendar of the flavors can be found on their Instagram). I especially LOVE the orange ice cream because it is made from the oranges produced in this area and you can see the pulp in the ice cream itself. A great place to grab a quick lunch(: We usually sit outside and the tables are very well kept but there's nice air conditioning and indoor seating as well. The service is great and they call your name via a speaker so that you can hear it if you're waiting for your food outside. I am so sad, I have been coming to the Orange Works for decades and always order the veggie sandwich. One of my favorite sandwiches ever. Today I was shocked the sandwich had so few veggies I didn't think there was anything in it, Literally a slice of carrot, and eggplant with a small piece of lettuce, my friends turkey sandwich had A slice of turkey.... I love the roasted garlic and they left that out, when I asked for garlic on the side they argued and wanted to charge me another dollar. I already spent $17 on lunch. They also refused to give us our ice cream after lunch and it was melting by the end of our lunch. Always loved the orange ice cream. Heading home and saw this place after a baseball game. The orange ice cream caught our eye along with the cute umbrellas. You order at the register and wait for your name to be called. They recommended the Tri-tip but the Pastrami was much better and had lots of flavor. The bread made the sandwich!! The Fruity Pebbles Cheesecake soft serve was delicious. The orange was good but not my favorite. A little sweet for me but my husband loved! Such a nice and relaxing lunch! We will be back. My mom found this place when driving to my tennis games in Porterville. Ever since discovering this place, we would drive from Bakersfield to get this which is about a hour drive out of town.
