I loved the paprika and sour cream sauce. I ordered the roast beef sliders with the horseradish aioli on the side. They were amazing! I wish I could cook roast beef like these sliders. (I learned about the sliders on their website promotions page.) My husband had the Classic Hot dog with macaroni and cheese. He ate every bite! We ordered the Lemon Strudel with ice cream for dessert. I loved the signed buns hanging on the walls. Fun decor! I am glad that I was able to come here for the very first time.

Lauri laughs when I say it smells like Ohio when walking in; woody and old and alive in all its dim lighting and kitsch. tables are nice for groups but it's just us so we sit at the bar and we get a Packo's Feast plus an extra cabbage roll - we're here catching up so 'food' was more of a place for meeting than a reason, but get an extra cabbage just the same. hand rolled seasonal beefs and porks and rice wrapped in cabbages and simmered in a thick tomatoey sauce, plated lightly sauced with hot pickles on the side - man these are good. the hot dogs are more like smoke sausage than weiners and split because that's how it's done; plus onions, kraut, and yellow mustard (just like god intended) under a generous slather of dog sauce plus hot pickles on the side. cup of chili comes with an equal amount of baby oyster crackers in second a bowl. now i shall spend the afternoon musing on a simpler place in time. the last law of thermodynamics states that food is cold at the same temperature where beer is warm. but good food will still be good at room temperature or even out of the fridge (a few items test the hypothesis but don't break it) so sit and talk and listen, the food will still be there...

Good thing I came when I came, because it got busy as hell shortly after. I went with 2 coney dogs and a Vernors. The dogs were delicious! Messy as hell, but absolutely delicious. They come loaded with a ton of chili, onions, and mustard on a super duper soft steamed bun. The dog had a great snap to it and the simple ingredients just worked! My Vernors ginger ale soda was great, too! Never had one before. Really liked it though. Had a hint of vanilla, and was sweeter than other gingers ales I have had. I loved it! It was the perfect beverage to wash down my dogs. Service was quick and to the point. This is the type of place where you eat and get the fuck out. No lingering around talking afterwards lol. Really enjoyed my first meal in Detroit!

The Coney dog ($4) was ordered. It had the classic toppings of bean less chili, yellow mustard, and raw chopped white onions. This was solid. There was a nice bite on the chili with plenty of mustard and onions. The bread was soft and the hot dog was cooked appropriately. The chili was the key as it was hearty and meaty. Will I go back? Yeah, sure.

I enjoyed some fantastic chili dogs and a homemade root beer in a frosted mug. I absolutely loved the chili; it was sweet and had a tang to it; it really complemented the hot dog very well. For those of you who like coneys, note that these are Monroe-style chili dogs - not coney dogs - so it has chili on the dog and not coney sauce. Personally, I prefer a chili dog over a coney dog. I was told to return to try a burger for which I already read great reviews. I also loved the homemade root beer, and the service was fantastic. They also have a nice covered patio to eat your meal. I will be returning soon.

The coney sauce is very different so be prepared, but it's good! It's quite red and has a very tomato base flavor and not much chili or chunky meat. I enjoyed it! Their fries are frozen not fresh but they have some skins on them and they fried them crispy so that was a plus. The prices are fantastic. $2.25 for a coney is a great deal in my opinion. Their rootbeer is even freshly made. I did have a gyro and it was also good. The staff is very friendly. We sat outside because it was a pretty nice day, a little windy but nice out. There was no restroom for guests which was a bummer when my 6 yr old really had to go potty before leaving. I'll definitely be back if we are in the area again.
