5/5 Stars -- Ohio's Ice Cream Legend By far the best place in Ohio to get fresh, amazing ice cream. I mean, Toft's Dairy has like 50 flavors--seriously, there's something for everyone. You can grab a cone, a cup, or even buy ice cream to take home for the family. And it's not just ice cream--they have milk, specialty drinks, and even fun merch like t-shirts. My personal favorite? Peanut Butter Cup + Peanut Butter Pretzel--absolute perfection. Creamy, nutty, salty, sweet... all the things you want in a summer treat. Sizes? They've got three, but honestly, the small is perfect: enough to satisfy that ice cream craving without going overboard. Medium is basically a full meal, so pace yourself. What makes it extra special for me: we know someone who works there (we met her at Kalahari), and she loves giving suggestions on flavor combos. Her tips always take a cone from great to legendary. And of course, there's the Cedar Point connection--stopping at Toft's after a day on the rides or after a big sporting event is pure nostalgia. After a great lunch at Jolly Roger I was headed back towards Cleveland and wanted to grab some ice cream; Toft Dairy had popped up in my online feed recently so I figured I would give them a try. I have had Toft's ice cream a couple of times before, but the scoop shop experience can always be different. This location is actually there headquarters, factory and the scoop shop. The building has a covered patio out front, there are some cow statues and an original dairy cart out front. Inside they have a large service area with a huge amount of flavors, plus coolers with packed ice cream and ice cream pies. I ordered a medium sized cup with Banana Foster and Caveman Chocolate ice creams. The cup was $7.50 which seemed a bit expensive until I saw the portion size, this was really about 4 scoops of ice cream. The ice cream is nice and smooth with a nice texture and mouthfeel. The banana foster ice cream was slightly sweet and had a mild banana flavor I did not taste the advertised burnt sugar swirl. The Caveman Chocolate was very good with a rich dark chocolate ice cream and a nice amount of chocolate truffles, although again I did not taste the thick fudge swirls. Toft's has some very good ice cream, the scoop shop lacks some of the charm of other ice cream places, not too surprising since it is part of the factory. We tried the Bananas Foster, Cherry Vanilla, Muddy's Sea Salt Slam & Mint Cookies & Cream. They had no flavor whatsoever. Not at all high quality ice cream. The customer service was not there either. For being the "oldest" creamery in Ohio, the ice cream didn't even taste as good as something you get in a grocery store. Rude management doesn't help their case either. read more

Five stars for this great spot! A friend recommended this place, and it's delicious. We arrived about 30 minutes before closing time and there was a huge line, which we found out is pretty standard here. It's clean, the layout is well thought out, and the screens with flavors and options allow for clear viewing while in line. The staff was friendly and efficient. Don't have a Pic because I finished it too quickly. Got the black cherry/raspberry with chocolate. It was excellent. Nice fruity taste with chocolate bits. I got one scoop which is smaller than kids - you just have to ask for it. I got a large scoop and this was more than enough. Friendly staff who offered samples. Nice clean place. Atmosphere - Excellent. The store is bright and cheerful. The place is immaculate. The signage is easy to read. The ice cream freezes are well cared for. There is plenty of seating inside and a covered patio outside. Service - Excellent. The servers were pleasant and prompt. Food - Excellent. My wife and I owned and ran an ice cream store for a number of years. So trust me when I say that it is excellent. The selections are many and the ice cream a high quality. Who doesn't love ice cream? I absolutely do and this place exceeded my expectations. My friends encouraged me to get a kid size as it would be plenty, and they were right. There were so many hard flavors from which to choose that I had difficulty deciding. I now can't remember what I ordered, but it was chocolate ice cream with brownie bits and peanut butter cups. It was delicious. In addition to hard ice cream, they have sherbet and milkshakes, sundaes and even food items. The interior is so cute and there is a nice pavilion outside to enjoy your ice cream. Now don't expect me say anything bad about the ice cream. OK one issue they give you to much. Unless you want to make a pig of yourself you'll want to do yourself a favor and order the Junior size. This place is very well organized, watch out for line jumpers (you'll know what I mean once you get there). Staff is helpful and friendly, free samples. Mint chip is fav, good stuff. This place is the worst for customer service that I have ever experienced in my 50+ years of restaurants. That is no exaggeration. I can't think of any place that was worse. We were traveling through town, and were excited to try the "oldest dairy in Ohio." Checked the website for hours, and it says "8am-11pm Daily". I have attached a screenshot from their website for reference (copyright 2018, but live as of today). So, as it happens, we cruised in at 8:00 PM, and noticed a line of customers ordering ice cream. As we approached to order, the grungy employee (I mean this guy practically looked homeless) at the door told us to leave because they were closed. Apparently, their website has conflicting closing hours depending on which page you go to. Can you say "LAME"? When I told him we were from out of state, he responded coldly, "too bad." When I told him I would leave a bad review, he responded almost gleefully, "go for it!" So, here it is. They could have had customers for life (whenever we drive through Sandusky which might be frequently given where our son has relocated). But now they will miss all future revenue from us (not to mention bad word of mouth to everyone we know) just because of a lazy, smelly, sweaty employee's rude behavior. There are plenty of other great places for dessert in this town or nearby. Don't go to Toft's! read more

Typical parlor in a strip mall shop, with a long freezer/counter with a variety of choices. Limited inside seating and fairly plain. Our group sampled a wide variety of flavors and everyone gave it the thumbs up! I had the salted caramel and it was extra tasty. At $5 for single dip cup, it was typical for the homemade parlor experience! High school servers were nice and helpful with your questions! read more

Ok so where do I start with all the awesomeness that is Toft like they have what's good with basically everything that's milk related including the milk itself! So the first I heard of them was just when I picked up some milk at the store a few weeks ago I didn't think much of it until my coworkers said we are going here to get some ice cream later come with us and from then it was on! Upon arrival I learned that this is the oldest dairy in Ohio and I can see why they are still thriving today as they are doing it right with such an abundance of delicious ice cream flavors it was massively hard to choose which to go with but after a taste or two I came up with what I would go with for this visit anyway as it was all about the Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake & the Blueberry Waffle Cone flavors just the two of them in a small cup was more than enough for me as they both were bursting with bold and creamy flavors! The sizes of their ice cream cups is totally crazy as a small is huge and I don't even want to know what the medium looks like as that will just put me in fat girl syndrome more so! Both of those ice cream flavors were reason enough for a full star review but then do I even start with that awesome French onion dip they also sell it's basically sour cream with a kick it's great for chips or to cook with as it's just yummy! Inside the store they also sell their other products as well as a bunch of ice cream flavors that are already to go so don't be shy you know you want to bring more home like I did! Overall yummy fresh milk products and some of the best ice cream flavors I've ever had anywhere in the country as just writing this is making me want to come back again to get a scoop or two of that delicious creamy goodness! We've been coming here for years, every time we are in the Sandusky area. And by area, I mean anywhere within an hour's drive - it's that good. Two things: Quantity: Toft's gives you SO MUCH. Get a small. You'll still get more than you can eat! Quality: every single flavor I've tried is delicious. My favorites are the coconut cream pie (which they haven't had for a few years, but it had BITS OF GRAHAM CRACKER CRUST in it. WOW!) and caveman chocolate, which is chocolate heaven for people that can't get enough dark chocolate. There is inside seating at school-type benches, and outdoor seating under a roofed area. We've never had to wait long, even when there have been school buses of kids. You can wind your way through the area in front of the ice cream to see what flavor(s) you want. If you're not sure, ask for samples! That has helped me decide on more than one occasion. There's a cooler and frozen area where you can get to go stuff (milk, ice cream, etc.). The staff is always kind and courteous. The only problem? They don't have lemon ice for scoopable ice cream any more. My husband is extremely disappointed - those frozen cups of it in the freezer section, to go, aren't the same. Highly recommended!! Go hungry! read more

I love ice cream. When I was a kid and times were tight my mom would by ice milk and sprinkle Nestle Quik powder on it. I loved it. When things weren't so tight we'd walk up to Roses where they made ice cream fresh every day, lots of flavors to choose from. I loved it. Toft's reminds me of Roses but even better. They have between 30 to 50 flavors to choose from, some unique to their dairy store. The portions are big - the medium was at least a pint. There's undercover outdoors seating to enjoy this deliciousness. The only knock, when it's busy they limit samples to one per customer. Having never visited before I could only imagine how some of the in house creations might taste. I rolled the dice and got two Toft's flavors that were each wonderful. I love ice cream. read more

Awesome price. Big selection of flavors. They even have several flavors named after the roller coasters at Cedar Point. But their base uses corn syrup, not just sugar, as a sweetener. When so many quality ice cream brands can offer corn-syrup free ice cream, it's disappointing that a old-school dairy-direct brand doesn't. I care more than most people because I have a severe allergic reaction to corn syrup made from GMO corn. And, it's an increasingly common allergy. This isn't a personal choice not to have high fructose corn syrup (and in fact the ingredient in their base is not that- it's plain corn syrup), it's an acquired allergy to all products made from gmo corn. The staff was very helpful looking up the ingredients, but couldn't determine if the corn used was gmo or not. I decided to give it a taste with the hope that it was non-gmo. But after just a taste of their butter bourbon truffle, I had to stop- had a reaction. As for the flavor- I didn't find it as good as a Columbus brand I like which uses sugar, no corn syrup. The corn syrup seems to make it almost too sweet, and un-naturally smooth. read more
