I did not take care of my teeth for a long time and things only got worse because I was afraid to go to the dentist to get taken care of. When I finally couldn't wait put it off any longer I chose to Dr. Simpson's office because they offered sedation dentistry and I was convinced that was the only way I'd be able to do what I needed to do going forward. I've been going to Dr. Simpson's office now for over a year and never ended up needing to using any type of sedation. They do such a great job making sure your comfortable and keeping you nice and numb I even declined the laughing gas when I needed to have a tooth extract and when I needed my wisdom teeth taken out because that's how confident I was in this teams ability to care for me. I came in after skipping a dental checkup in Flagstaff after the group there broke up and dispersed. The doctor I had there I had and completely trusted for over Four years said you have one potential cavity, come back when you can. 've been going to Dr. Simpson for several years now and I have always been happy with the care he provides. I am someone who has a lot of anxiety in doctors' offices as well as a phobia of needles. When I needed fillings he was very gentle and so skilled at giving shots and pre-numbing the area before the injection that I never felt a thing. He listened you my concerns without judgement and never rushed me. He and his staff have wonderful bedside manner. I've loved all of the hygienists there (Jenna is amazing) as well as the newest dentist on staff, Dr. Salvatore. She's very calm and gentle. She has such a peaceful energy. Both doctors are very thorough and knowledgeable and never try to push unnecessary cosmetic procedures, they just want everyone to have a healthy mouth, and I appreciate their conservative approach. The one time that I did express concerns regarding a dental assistant they took my concerns to heart and made sure the issue was addressed. Not only was my next visit perfect, but Dr. Salvatore made a point of checking in with me to make sure it was better. I truly love these people and I'm happy to be in their care. I truly love Dr. Simpson and his entire staff. I came to this office in April of 2021 after doing several consultations and hours of research on dentists who deal with patients with dental anxiety. I needed a lot of work done after a decade of ignoring dental issues out of fear and I am so glad that I ultimately chose Dr. Simpson to help me. The sedation experience was amazingly comfortable and great- I had two procedures with full sedation. By the third procedure, they had calmed my anxiety enough and made me so comfortable with how they work that I did perfectly fine with just nitrous oxide, and I do feel that going forward, I am able to have procedures done here without needing to be fully sedated because of fear and anxiety. My teeth are absolutely beautiful and I have zero complaints about any of my visits. Kenya is wonderful and is such a calm and competent person to guide you through the processes and ease your fears before the doctor comes in. Dr. Simpson has a very kind and gentle demeanor and really listens. They do payment plans and are flexible and so accommodating with scheduling which I greatly appreciate. Dr. Simpson is the best dentist I have ever been to. And I have been to my fair share of dentists. First off, I am a bit of a freak when it comes to oral hygiene. Second, I am missing teeth. Not that you can tell, and all thanks to Dr. Simpson. The story of why I am missing teeth is a long and agonizing one (it involves childhood trauma, something called root resorption, and even the Peace Corps believe it or not). Anyhow, long story short, I needed to get an old bridge replaced and I had to pay out of pocket to do so. To make matters even more interesting, I had to have a tooth pulled AND get a root canal. This entire process could have been a nightmare, but it wasn't and that is thanks entirely to Dr. Simpson and his always excellent staff. On one occasion I was having extreme pain, and Dr. Simpson saw me in his office during his vacation (He even had to bring his daughter in with him! Who does that?! Dr. Simpson! That's who!). He is very sensitive to pain and ensures that even the most routine visit is as pleasant as it gets. Most importantly, my teeth look great and almost everyone is surprised when I tell them that they are false (many of them, anyhow). They are absolutely fabulous! They are kind, patient, knowledgeable, and compassionate. They helped me choose what level of sedation was right for me for my deep clean. They actually listened when I explained that I am hyper-sensitive to pain and they adjusted the nova cane amount accordingly. For the first time ever it did not wear off in the middle and there was discomfort but no pain. They talked me through the whole cleaning, explaining each step and instrument they were using. I don't think I have ever returned from a dentist's office just rarin' to write a review--much less a five-star review. But here we are. My dentist of two decades will soon be closing shop, and it seemed as good a time as any to find a new tooth-care provider closer to home. I found this practice using the Delta Dental website, which listed it as an in-network provider (perhaps my only negative thing to report, then, is that the practice tells me it is not actually in-network but that they would bill Delta Dental and it would come out about the same cost-wise for me and I got a little confused about the insurance intricacies). Anyway--I needed to get in because some fillings I got three months ago were giving me trouble. When I called, they were able to get me a same-day appointment (!). Michelle at the front desk sent my new patient paperwork over by email and I was able to complete it in advance of the visit. (The paperwork was very thorough and even asked about my past dental experiences and my feelings about dental work!) When I arrived, then, fifteen minutes before my appointment, the very friendly hygienist, Ash, introduced herself and got me in the chair within five minutes. They even asked if I had something I preferred to play thru the music system. Since I am looking for a new dental "home," as it were, I opted for the full set of X-rays, not just images of the sensitive area. For me, this was a plus: all the images were displayed on the screen in front of me. (They did ask if I wanted that, which I think is nice: body images aren't comfortable for everyone.) I even got a cool panoramic radiographic image of my teeth as well as full-color photographs of the backs of all my teeth. Then the "gum boss" came in, and I didn't clarify how to spell her name but it started with a K, and she did a periodontic mapping, calling out my gum scores as she went. She clearly explained the reference range and significance of the numbers. What I am getting at here is that this visit totally satisfied the data-nerd part of me but also that this office keeps patients in the loop so they can be informed enough to make good decisions. So often dentists just poke around, mutter, and then tell you it's going to be $600. I sincerely appreciated the information. Then the dentist, Dr. Salvatore, came in and she was also friendly and good-humored and really clear about explaining what she was seeing. Her recommendation made sense to me and I felt that she had read my pre-visit paperwork in which I explained my other medical issues and my feelings about my dental situation. When I left, I decided to opt for the discount plan they offered--again, finding Michelle's explanation of its benefits to me convincing even if I got pretty tangled in the weeds of why I pay this and not that. I am very optimistic that I have found my newe dental practice. I came home feeling good--better!--about my teeth, absent the latent shame and insecurity that usually comes with dental care. Amazing Dentist... Amazing Practice... Period I had neglected my teeth for far too long... Between having extreme anxiety and not having insurance, it had been a while since I had been to the dentist. I found Dr. Simpson based on searching for a sedation dentist and reading the few reviews online. Dr. Simpson runs the best practice in town bar none. His office Manager (If she's not the office manager, she should be), Pamela, is on her game, always on top of scheduling, insurance issues, etc. A true pro when dealing with all of my naïve questions and showing downright care and compassion for me. His dental assistants are super friendly, very thorough, and pleasant to work with. I never felt judged for having a not so perfect smile and the assistants were full of informative tips on how to better take care of my teeth and gums. Dr. Simpson, himself, has hands of gold. My treatments had to be broken up over several visits (not his fault, that's just how bad I let it get) and before every treatment I expected pain, blood, needles, drills, ax murderers... But it never happened. Every time I have been in to see Dr. Simpson has been a gentle, painless experience. My mouth has healed and my teeth and gums truly look better than I ever though they would. The sedation can get a little pricy, but I had a panic attack when visiting another dentist for a simple procedure so the extra money is well spent to not have to go through that. Dr. Simpson has been my dentist since 2000. A number of my colleagues in the health professions see him too. He has quite the following of patients who are medical doctors. Doesn't that tell you something in itself? The most impressive thing I find about Dr. Simpson is his wonder hands and skill with the needle and local anesthetics. I don't do will with pain. I get faint around needles. I can give 'em but I can't take 'em. I NEVER feel or see Dr. Simpson's needle. But I get the numbest darn lip ever. I've been through a number of his hygienists. He lost a really excellent one shortly after I started going to his practice - she married and moved away. This latest hygienist is very good: precise, gentle, and complimentary even to me on my apparent good toothbrushing! :) I LOVE Pamela, the front desk person. She'll chat up a storm with you, check on your insurance and admire pics of your kids all at once. She rocks. Front office people can make or break a medical/dental practice.
