They have NOT been able to pull it together with the new manager at all!! They (manager included) are horrible at returning calls & following up to rectify a situation their staff messed up. I was not able to get my ortho or whitening because of consistent poor communication. I have had to chase them down for at least 3-4 months to get answers to a situation their managers/staff got wrong. I only got answers today because I was in the office for my regular cleaning! The office is not stocked with non-fluoride items for polishing teeth. My account was not notated correctly for my cleaning. On top of ALL of this (knowing I want ortho, whitening and I get regular cleanings 3-4 times per year) they couldn't find a way nor did they attempt to offer me a discount toward a future services for all the mess, confusion and frustration in order to keep me as a client. What company with good customer service sees a client being messed with at every angle & lets the client feel so unsupported? Why after I said I'm not dealing with this & won't come back was NO attempt made to keep me as a client? I was, however, handed a form to transfer my medical records after I said I will need the new Dr I find to be sent everything. How is the staff so nice but SO unresourceful at finding a way to keep a good client that was lied to, unable to get services and not communicated to properly multiple times? They gave me no other option but to leave & warn others to stay away!

ONE STAR -- GET A SECOND OPINION BEFORE AGREEING TO ANY MAJOR DENTAL WORK HERE…read more I had been a patient at Desert Smiles Dentistry and went in on August 4, 2026 for nothing more than a routine six-month cleaning and X-rays. I left being told that I needed crowns or veneers on my four front teeth because, according to the dentist, I had been "cracking my teeth good" I was shocked. I had Invisalign three years ago, religiously wear my retainers, have always taken excellent care of my teeth, and have never had any significant issues with my front teeth. I've even done teeth modeling because of the appearance of my smile. The dentist pointed out visible lines on my front teeth and specifically told me these were new and that he had never seen them at my previous six-month visit. He then had his front office provide me with a quote for FOUR crowns. I was also told that if I decided to move forward with his proposed treatment plan, I could receive a discount because, ironically, the practice was having "Crown Week" at the end of August. He even told me that another dentist would probably try to convince me to crown my entire upper mouth. Thankfully, I did not agree to anything and immediately sought a second opinion. I was evaluated by another dentist today, and the difference in professional opinion was astounding. She explained that what I had been shown were craze lines -- common lines that naturally develop in teeth over time, similar to wrinkles as we age. She explained that the lines were internal rather than external, told me my teeth were essentially in excellent condition, and said she would not recommend doing anything to them at this time. She further explained that perhaps decades from now, as I reach my 60s or 70s and normal wear progresses, veneers might become an appropriate cosmetic option. She specifically did not recommend crowns on my healthy front teeth now. What makes this even more concerning is that during my 12-year-old daughter's previous routine cleaning at Desert Smiles, we were also told that she needed an expander. She has since been evaluated and treated by an orthodontist and got braces this summer. An expander was never recommended as part of her orthodontic treatment... Recommending four crowns on someone's front teeth is not a minor suggestion. Crowns require permanently altering natural tooth structure. Had I simply trusted this recommendation without questioning it, I could have undergone significant, irreversible dental work that another dentist believes is completely unnecessary. The fact that I was presented with a four-crown treatment plan, given a quote by the front office, and then informed about a "Crown Week" discount only added to my discomfort with the entire experience. Based on my family's experiences, I have completely lost confidence in this practice. I strongly encourage anyone who receives a recommendation here for expensive or invasive dental treatment to get an independent second opinion before agreeing to anything. We will absolutely not be returning to Desert Smiles Dentistry.

Both had suggested that perhaps I had developed a metal allergy but didn't know who to send me to get tested so I contacted Whole Health. Dr Sofia also agreed that could be the problem. First course of action was a saliva test and then labs were ordered through Vibrant Labs in CA. The test was 520 dollars and it took me almost a year to save up to get the test . At no time did anyone mention that it was also going to cost me another 200 dollars to have someone go over the results with me . Anyway I did the test . I was notified that the dentist had received my results on Jan .19th . (Monday) By Friday the 23rd I still had not heard anything from the dentist office so I left a message . By Monday the 26 I still had not heard from the dentist so I left another message . By Wed the 28th I still had not heard from the dentist so I looked up the Facebook page and message Dr Loud through email. That's when I finally got a text saying Dr Loud was not my dentist but that they would make an appt with Dr Sofia to go over my results and that would be Feb 13. Then a week later they called me and said she didn't want to go over results with me but wanted me to talk to a practitioner and she would contact me. I got an appt with her for Feb 16th . That was yesterday and come to find out the test didn't even test for metal allergies (which is the only reason I did it) . I am beyond upset about this . Not only do I feel like no one cares but no one answers the phone or returns calls so there is no point in trying to do that . They made the place warm and did excellent work. However, the place is cold and Krista is the worst. I came in with my child that is special needs because his tech called off. They said it was "fine" to have him there (they wanted the money) although I told them that I could come back. It was pretty empty that day and some staff that wasn't busy played with him during the crown replacement. After this, I called in because I was having more pain after the crown and wanted to schedule for this and eventually my cleaning. Krista told me that my son was not allowed on the premises (although I told her his technician would be with him in the waiting room). She stated that I needed to "leave him at home" which is in violation of ADA laws. I went to another dentist due to this and found out that Dr. Shaw put a crown on a tooth that had an infection on one root - something that she should have caught with due diligence. The other dentist did several x-rays but NDP only did the one with the machine that spins around your head. I had to pay for x-rays a second time because Krista did not send my records. I requested my records several times and Krista claims she mailed them but in email correspondence; she is completely dishonest about several things. She also ghosted me and ignored my requests to resolve the matter. Once I mentioned contacting my attorney, she stated that "you can bring your son." He wasn't welcome before I contacted my attorney. I am serious about my son's rights as a disabled person and he should be treated with dignity. Krista is cold, unprofessional, dishonest, and her name should be Karen. This place is cold - it wasn't like this before. They lack empathy and seem to only care about money. The quality of care has tremendously declined as well. I did not feel cared for and ended up paying twice for one tooth. I want a refund and will not be going back! I had planned on getting an implant and invisalign with them but will go elsewhere. I saved up to treat myself but I do not trust Dr. Shaw's work. I specifically asked her for ozone and she did not want to do it. I remember when Dr. Raiffe did my other crown, he did the ozone as a preventative measure and no pain after the crown. They are expensive and I don't mind paying for good work; but they are unprofessional, lack empathy, and not a quality provider in my opinion. I should not have to spend approximately two months requesting my records or a refund. I have to pay to another provider to get the tooth properly fixed. Not worth the time or headache - find a practice that actually cares about their patients. Taking short cuts to save money at patient's expense is wild work. Shame on Karen and Dr. Shaw. Shame on you both.
