I'm speaking from both a small business owner and costumer. The staff is always very friendly and helpful as well as extremely skilled at what they do. I've never had to wait no matter the time of my appointment they operate with a NASCAR pit crew efficiency but don't make me feel rushed at all. I can't understand why anyone would give Dr. Hood and his office staff less than 5 stars. I have always had the best, most courteous treatment by each and everyone of his well trained staff. He is good at what he does. My new smile turned out great and his maintenance policy is the best. De. Hood has a great upbeat personality and even moving his Paradise patients to the Chico office has not effected the appointment flow. Rarely have to wait past my scheduled time. Dr. Hood & his team are AWESOME! The office has such a great vibe & everyone works flawlessly with one-another. I have a funky jaw issue that's been a pain to deal with. Dr. Hood has kept a positive outlook & been honest about my options. He's had lunch with my dentist to get his thoughts on how to approach my treatment & he's referred me to an oral surgeon for more treatment ideas. It would have been easy for him to slap braces on me, hoping that it would fix the issue, but that's not the kind of person Dr. Hood is...he genuinely cares about his patients. We were a transfer to this office a year ago. In our case- we were "finishing up treatment" here with Dr. Hood. My son had already been in braces for a 1 1/2. With our prior Ortho, we assumed our son was put in Damon Braces (Premium & top of the line brand). This previous Ortho worked with the Damon System. We were "accepted in" to Dr. Hoods on a 1yr contract, this was established to finish up our child's treatment. Our very FIRST appointment Dr. Hood and his team clearly didn't know what type of brackets these were (they had received paperwork from our prior Ortho).This should have been a RED FLAG! They treated our son's case like and "experiment", EACH visit only ONE RDA learned how to "open" these brackets. They had never seen this type of bracket before. These brackets took a special tool to open and close, which they didn't have or use. During the year's course, our child had a total of 5 broken brackets that had to be repaired. 4 of which were on his last visit. It was an extremely busy that day. We were with the same RDA (naturally) and she started in. She called over Dr. Hood & told him that there were 4 broken brackets. He was irritated. He said to my son and me "I am not happy at all with this". I was a little taken back by that! Dr. Hood has never really worked too much "hands on" with our child. He would mainly sit in the orthodontist chair & oversee / review what the RDA has done each and every-time we have been in! Anyway, from our visits I found it every interesting that Dr. Hood didn't even know how to unlock these brackets. This means he NEVER reviewed our file and wasn't familiar with our case. The BIGGEST issue: we pay him for a service, so he should provide us with results. During this days experience you could feel the stress with the staff as they were with clients! The back office monitor is being view continuously. They have a limited time frame to service YOU. Makes for bad customer service, you don't feel that quality time is being spent. In our case our 15 minute apt, turned in an 1:15 minutes tension was building for Hood. The RDA called him back over and after making the repairs, she said to him "I think I can finish it off with this size wire and Dr. Hoods claim was "NO". Dr. Hood was taking out his frustrations and his anger was mounting when he was evaluating our child. Dr. Hood instructed the RDA to go with a thicker wire (that she knew was too large). He then got up and walked away checking the above monitor and pacing back and forth. She leans to me and said "I should have went with my gut instinct as I knew it was the other that would fit". After that was completed Dr. Hood came back and looked at her work. He was so frustrated that she spent "over time" with us and made it known to us and that at-least 4 other client during that time frame had to be directed elsewhere. Dr. Hood says again "I am really disappointed and I don't know what to tell you at this point: but losing 4 brackets is just ridiculous & unacceptable". I said well " I don't think this type of thing should be happen with Damon's?". Dr. Hood is on the floor walking amongst other clients then says "they are not Damon, I have work with them for years and these are nowhere close to it". My thoughts were; if they aren't Damon's, then what are they? At that point, he should have composed himself & NOT address anything further to my son and I verbally out on the floor. He should have got himself under control and called us into an office room and handled anything further behind closed doors. HE should have questioned himself as to WHY they were breaking? Instead, DR. Hood continues & states "I don't know what to tell you: either I'm going to have to take them ALL off and start a new ", or you're just going to have to go elsewhere". I said: "Well, the best I can do at this point is contact my Sister In Law who is in the same field. I told him "We are going there for a visit soon and I can meet with her Ortho and get a second opinion"! He said "go ahead". My son was now fearful of any Ortho after this experience! I called my Sister In Law who called their office and spoke to Connie. When they mailed us all of our paperwork from our previous office & the paperwork from their office, we discovered that the braces our child had were T-.02's. NOT Damon's. We were never informed from EITHER office of that. Horrible experience and would not refer and detour our friends and family from even considering going there! Dr. Hood claims he is Professional, Friendly and Experienced. We know that NOT to be the case in our situation. We surely know character, integrity & honesty wasn't either! Be careful, be knowledgeable and become educated on WHAT you're paying for. Best of luck and I pray you don't go through what we have. read more

I love Dr. Hood! He's the best orthodontist in Northern Cali! Or anywhere else for that matter. I've had braces in the past but didn't wear my retainer so I'm doing it again as an adult with invisaline! He is very personable, outgoing and makes you feel like family! He is also very reasonable and really does his best to work with you. When you walk into his office... it feels as if you're walking into a really classy high end office and are treated the same but best of all... you aren't paying extra for it. They have water and coffee for you as you wait and even if the appointment is for yourself... bring your kids! They have a game area for the kids to play video games! They also have a nice waiting area and jewelry for us women to look at while we wait but I must tell you... they don't keep you waiting long. Typically I'm called back before I even sit down. I was very disappointed with my experience. I am mid 60ish and went in for upper and lower straightening. Hood discussed braces and Invisalign and recommended braces. That's where anything regarding quality of performance ceased. The technician was friendly, but in my opinion very incompetent. For both upper and lower braces, I walked out with several wires and pieces of metal sticking out and into the mouth tissue. They gave me wax to put over them, which is temporary at best and really of no relief. After a few days, the lower braces cause the lower lip to swell up and look like half of an inner tube. I couldn't believe that braces could have been installed so poorly. I discontinued treatment with Hood's office. The office did not inquire as to my concerns. Money paid in advance was refunded. I must say that Hood has a widespread good reputation in the area. What you hear almost entirely is his work with children. I am very suspect regarding his skill and concern regarding adults. I think he is riding on his laurels for making kids have a better smile. read more

If you want a first class dentist this is the right place to go. Dr. Hood is nice and knowledgeable, he has the most up to date equipment that is out on the market. His office is one of the best managed offices that I have ever been in. This is the best place to go for your braces for any age. read more

Dr. Hood did not only my Ortho but my 3 sisters and we all had complex cases and amazing results! I'm now an adult and didn't properly wear my retainer and I'm back in Ortho treatment and Dr. Hood is just as professional and kind now as he was 10 years ago. i agree with a previous reviewer that maybe they're just not that great with adults. the assistants were hit and miss. i had to insist at one point to only see one for every appointment. aside from the consultation i never had any time to ask him questions since i'd been told "he likes to keep the chairs full." i felt like any curiosity i had was treated as distrust. they told me my treatments were up to me; they'd do what i wanted. but i'm not the expert i don't know why they were looking to me for direction. they filed my teeth to look straight instead of straightening them. and left my front tooth not fully rotated because they absolutely refused to reposition "repo" the bracket. my 20-month plan turned into well over over 2.5 years without any noticeable changes or improvements between visits. my retainers were made to fit very poorly. all in all, i'd give them a D- i don't think i got what i paid for. and i've never received any follow-up calls from them. they just don't care. read more
