I was initially quoted $285 out of pocket for a deep cleaning after my insurance coverage was applied. Instead, I ended up paying approximately $1,200. My insurance later informed me that they denied coverage because, based on the information submitted, a deep cleaning was not considered medically necessary. I was told the dental office appealed the decision, but the insurance company upheld its denial. I have had deep cleanings in the past that were covered by my insurance, so this experience was both unexpected and frustrating. In the end, I was charged for services that, according to my insurance, were not necessary. Scott and his crew here are really great to work with and are accommodating in every way. I've been coming here for a few years now and couldn't think of going anywhere else. Service and level or expertise are second to none. I had concerns about surgery that was recommended by him for my periodontics, so Scott has gone out of his way to develop a program for me that could defer or minimize surgery that I know I will need eventually. Having different options and the flexibility to choose the program of my preference is just one example of service and expertise. Natalie is also really great to work when it coming to appointments and billing. Always flexible and accommodating. She uses her personal phone to text reminders because she knows that's my preference over cards and phone calls. Anyone looking for a dentist should give Scott and his tram a try. read more

This review is long overdue as was my visit to the dentist. I finally was able to get dental insurance through my job at the beginning of this year. I had just recently moved to the area so I wasn't sure where to go. Dr. Shew's office reached out with a mailer to let us know they are in the area, I saw the rave reviews and decided to give them a shot and I'm so glad I did! I've had some pretty awful dental office experiences in my lifetime but that's definitely not the case here! I'm not usually a fan of going to the dentist, but Scott Shew and his compassionate staff make it a pleasant experience. Since age 9 I've had all sorts of dental work done. Baby teeth pulling, yep they didn't fall out (I earned every dollar I got from the tooth fairy) , pallet stretcher, face bow, braces (the kind applied with a mallet), rubber bands and retainers. So when I was of an age to make my own dental decisions, I enthusiastically opted for "none". I mean I brushed my teeth and flossed but dental cleanings were something other people did not me. I only went to the dentist when I absolutely had to. When I needed to get a crown replaced I went to see Scott Shew. Everyone in the office put me at ease with what needed to be done. I don't mind going to the dentist anymore! Not the way Dr. Scott Shew treats me. For the last several years I've had nothing but good experiences and my friends and family that I recommended feel the same way. Take today for example, upon my arrival, I was treated with a smile by his friendly staff. Always very nice and ready to help. The dental hygienist was very nice too. She explained what she was doing, put a drop of Lavender oil on my bib, dimmed the lights, put soft music and by the end of my cleaning, I felt relaxed as if I was at a spa. Loved every bit of it. I have been seeing Dr. Shew for over 6 years and each time I arrive I am greeted with a smile and a kind word by each of the staff. A great office atmosphere especially if one has a little anxiety about seeing the dentist. When I sit in the chair and either have my teeth cleaned or have the annual X-ray check up, Dr. Shew takes the time to specifically listen to his patients and is very attentive to their needs. During my routine visit yesterday, I had some nagging tooth pain. Dr. Shew was able to conclude the issue was a sinus infection and not a cavity. He immediately called in a prescription and a day later, I am feeling much better. Dr Shew is seriously one of the best dentists in the North OC area. This is our family dentist. I've been going here ever since I was a little girl (I'm now 18) and I have perfectly healthy teeth. I've also never hated going to the dentist, haha! When you enter the building you immediately receive a warm greeting from Natalie from the front office, who's extremely nice and check-in is a breeze. They offer beverages in the waiting room, a variety of magazines and tv to watch what you like, but I like to catch up with Natalie. If you're worried about wait time, I've never had a problem here! Esther, the dental assistant, is the most cheerful human being I have ever met and she's been cleaning my teeth for 10+ years, so she knows what she's doing! She's quick, yet extremely thorough and time absolutely flies! She's such a great person to be around and she has 100% of my trust. Dr. Shew is the best dentist around, I don't even know where to begin. Most of the people I know, who like going to the dentist, go to Dr. Shew and that's just fact. He does amazing work on my teeth and really focuses on any concerns you may have. Even during my brace stage, he communicated with my orthodontist to make sure that everything he saw, they saw as well. I recommend him to absolutely anyone. I've heard some stories about how some dentists don't pay attention to their patient (ex. saliva or dry lips) but I don't ever have to worry about that. I just had to mention it because I know some people get really irritated about things like that. Also, they are constantly updating their space with the best tools and equipment making the entire process very smooth and efficient. These people are warm, comforting and put a lot of work and care into making it a wonderful and positive experience. I found Scott after having a family dentist throughout my childhood, then trying a "newer" dentist that used fancy new technologies. That dentist hit a nerve while drilling and I never returned. I was looking for a new dentist in my area as my old one is in Los Angeles. I found this wonderful office with wonderful staff. They have modern equipment and nice office.
