This was my first time at this particular market and we were just driving around when I wanted to get a drink! Behold, they had 1 million different types of kombucha!! Then we walked around the deli and they had so many delicious items we ended up getting sandwiches and we weren't even hungry! The lady behind the counter was so sweet and helpful. I got the chicken pesto sandwich and it's cooked in a Panini press!! Delicious!! My husband got the tri-tip sandwich with the garlic sauce, and didn't realize it was just all meat, but it was still very filling to him. He wish he would've added some vegetables to make himself feel better about what he was eating. Lol. As we walked by, there was a great bakery and good bite-size pieces of cake for a dollar that we both ended up buying three mini slices of cake just to try, the chocolate cake, vanilla cake, as well as the pecan!! The hot food and produce are delightful, but beware of buying other items from Scotts Valley Market. The price is about 66% higher than the same items at Grocery Outlet. I also found food on the bakery shelves almost a week past its best by date, which the clerk graciously offered to sell me for full price. Everything in the clearence section is expired. At least one of the bags of coffee expired in August 2024, and it is currently July 2025. read more

I ordered from Scotts Valley Market for deli catering recently and their store did an excellent job at providing a fantastic selection for very competitive prices. We took about 13 individual sandwich orders in advance along with an order of salad, fruit, and cookies. Everything came out to about $250 for an enormous amount of food. All of the sandwiches were well made and they even have a few vegan friendly options or ones that can be made as such. The online ordering process was a breeze and pickup was easy and timely. We waited a few minutes after our scheduled pickup time for them to finish wrapping things up, but it really didn't take long. One of their staff members even pushed the cart of food out to our car for us which was nice of them. I would definitely order catering from their deli again if you're looking at a solid sandwich spot that won't break the bank. read more

I can only be annoyed with myself for continuing to go, but today was another reminder. Really great food bar and also the pesto pasta is very light and not overwhelming. the veggies could be steamed a bit more but still really well done by the cooks. The Scotts Valley Market was the place for me to get my breakfast while staying at the Four Points. Elites Bonvoy member normally get free breakfast. But, with staffing problems, their restaurant was closed and I was forced to go offsite. In a way, I'm glad the Four Points forced me to come here, otherwise, I would've never discovered them. They seem to be upscale market. I mainly roamed around the meat and deli departments. Their meats looked excellent. They had a large butcher case with all the cuts of meats on display. They had marinated meats like chicken, tri-tip, skirt steak, and pork tenderloin. If I wasn't traveling, I definitely would've bought some meat to cook. Visiting their deli to grab some breakfast was my main goal. They had a good variety of burritos like pork sausage burrito, carne asada burrito, spinach mushroom burrito and chicken burrito. But, what caught my eye was the brisket breakfast taco that came with an fried egg. The sausage egg burrito was good. It was big enough for 2 women to share. The brisket taco was served on a flour tortilla. The brisket was a little dry, but, the runny egg gave it some moisture. It had a good smoky flavor. It was good. Eat from the hot food bar if you want diarrhea for 48 hours. If it doesn't come out of one end it will surely come out of the other. Everything is ridiculously overpriced. Their food safety practices are disgusting, they have cold rooms with hoards of food not properly packaged and closed. The managers are miserable people and treat their employees like crap, hence why their turnover is shockingly high. Management conducts itself like they reign over their employees. Their stupid policy about leaving your bag at the front is a lawsuit waiting to happen. The only reason they are still in business is because there isn't a market across the street from them. (1) Rats roaming - Not well managed: Found a rat in the warehouse area outside the bathroom at around 6 pm. broad daylight. The rat which was not even scared of people, standing just right there in the entry area, eating the food from the warehouse. We told two employees about these but they were indifferent & had no response whatso ever.... Rats live in group. When you see one, there are always more hidden. Horrible experience. Waited 15 minutes for the deli sandwich counter helper to even acknowledge my presence. She then had me fill out a sandwich form which she left on the counter as she continued slicing deli meat that she put in a container (I.e. she was prepping for the day, not actively helping a customer). When grocery shopping here, please be careful and check the expiration dates and examine the packaging for puffiness, because the items are never checked for outdates. I Just needed a few items for dinner and the whole row of the cheese I needed was expired. And the precut fruits are often puffy, meaning they are spoiled, but still left on the shelves for sale. They are also verpriced for not carrying local produce or products often. I also got a chicken caesar salad from the deli section and the chicken was very hard and dry, possibly old chicken. Can mix protein w/veggies for more balanced meal. Different than WF who always uses only pork or chicken; never beef to maximize profit. Hot lunch is less than 10$, asparagus and fresh bbq chicken breast. Couldn't finish it. Extremely large portion sizes for the price. Could never do this at WF. FREQUENT MISPRICING. Almost every time I go, there's at least one item that shows up at the register for a significantly higher price than the sign advertises next to item. I suggest trying to remember prices as you shop, especially sales prices on produce; then fill the register conveyor quickly so you can watch the register screen like a hawk to catch and call out the mispricings before you leave. Often the sales price on an item has not be entered into the system used by the registers. This market sells mostly high quality items. Nice olive selection. Fresh, local Del Pueblo tortillas are excellent. There is a pretty good selection of organic produce for a medium-sized grocery store, and produce is usually fresh. Prices are usually at least somewhat higher than Nob Hill or Safeway, but their sale items for Scotts Valley Market Card holders are usually a good deal (you can get that card for free). Line is often 3 to 8 minutes long, but sometimes less. Employee turnover seems high, which can lead to slow lines and miskeying of items at the register. Convenient location. This is my favorite Market/Grocery store in Scott's Valley. When you walk in you will see that they offer complimentary gloves, and hand sanitizer. I always go right to the bathroom and wash my hands. Some things here are higher priced than other stores, and some are similar or much less. The CBD drinks I enjoy are the best price here out of anywhere I've ever been. There always seems to be different sales going on. The sushi here looks pretty good! This is a locally popular grocery whose claim to fame is not groceries but an awesome hot bar and deli. While the majority of the lot in this shopping center belongs to the market, it's surprisingly difficult to maneuver around in, and at time that lot may only have one semi impossible spot open to park in. Not the best place to bring a work truck or massive suv not that that stops anyone. Anywhoo, once you have negotiated parking, the store is impeccably laid out. It's the not quite rustic, not quite modern, sustainable feel that whole new amazon leaf foods tries for. While new leaf et al doesn't quite hit, this place does along with a uniquely local focus. As this store is smaller then many all) groceries the selection isn't any too deep. Around six or less brands for any given item only, and it's not the best spot for exotica. No pickled eels, balut, blutwurst, chitilins, vegemite, durian and whatnot. Which is fine but they also miss spelt, samosas,chicory,fondant, and kielbasa. The quality of the grocery ranges from good to great but is roughly a dollar or so more then you'd expect to pay. So far so meh, but the awesomeness is in the hot bar/deli. The salad bar is decent, they have house made soups at lunch and dinner, but the hot bar of prepared food is epic. There are no real weaknesses- well maybe the price- otherwise you are getting full restaurant quality foods at grocery prices. While they do have a picnic table or two outside, this is not a sit down kind of place. So yeah while the grocery side of things is okay, it's the fast casual premade items that put this above average. Bonus points awarded for an effective rewards program. read more

I've been shopping here for 15 years. Recently it's gone way downhill. The butcher area was always great, the main reason to shop here, but has recently reduced in size and been partially replaced with a huge display of beef-stock cartons and bbq rubs. All chicken is now in packets, marinated with a large markup. Whatever happened to Jared (sp?)? The outdoor bbq thing is good, and great if you catch it at the right time of day, but by the evening it's looking dry, sad and overpriced. One section of the produce (the other reason to shop here) has been replaced with kombucha-like overpriced waters. They used to have a decent beer selection but now there's almost nothing interesting, mostly replaced with yet more overpriced soft drinks. There used to be a good interesting-cheese counter but it's now half converted to "hard-seltzer" and other, no-doubt high-profit "drinks". I was there about 3pm today and there wasn't a single fresh bakery item on display - everything in packets or glad-wrap. No idea what it looks like at 8am, but I doubt I'll be finding out. And the inevitable "herbal-remedy" aisle that never seems to have anybody in it. There must be some high markup items there!? i'd like to think it could improve, not holding my breath. read more

I feel bad making this review but it needs to be said ... The whole point of having the luxury of a neighborhood market is for it to be easier and more convenient than going all the way to the store. When I first moved here, near the Scotts valley high school I was excited to know there was a market near by. I unfortunately due to lack of staff of scheduling minaswell go to the nob hill or Safeway. In the amount of time it takes to get in and out of this place you could take the extra drive to the local store and make it home before being done at the market. The line never has less than 10 people in it. I would love to shop here and take advantage of the closer location but the over priced items and the line make it not worth it at all. I would be willing to pay extra for the connivence of location, but having to wait 20+ minute just in line for 1 item ruins the whole point. My advice is to not come here for a single item ever. It won't be worth it. Since the beginning of covid this place just hasn't recovered or hired new staff. They need to focus on giving incentives to staff so they want to keep their job here. It's not that this has happened once or twice but it has been every time I have tried to shop here for the past year and I'm so over it. Needed to grab one item was hoping to be in and out. Once again stuck in the paralyzing line. Everyone in the line is constantly complaining about how annoying it is there is always a line here of 10+ people. Not 3, not 5. Usually 10+. Hopefully this place will recover staff or lower their prices for the gigantic line people have to wait in. Love the managers and the idea of this place. Also I love how it used to be when they had a solid staff. Makes me wonder if they are choosing to not hire more people to save money. I have, in the past, shopped in the grocery part of the store and really liked it - the selection was good and the personnel were friendly. However, yesterday I was especially hungry for breakfast & went there because my friends at work said they had breakfast burritos. I went to the prepared food section, where the burritos are, and couldn't have any of the varieties - I'm a vegetarian, but their veggie burrito had mushrooms on it & I can't eat mushrooms. So, I looked a the dried out scrambled eggs and potatoes - I was SO HUNGRY, I went ahead and took 1 small scoop of the dried out eggs and 2 spoons of the fingerling potatoes that were cooked with peppers and onions. I took it to the check-out & it cost over $8!!! for dried out scrambled eggs & potatoes!! What the hell? I even said that to the man at the register - he said, in his most sanctimonious tone, "Well, there is a scale right next to the food station over there and it DOES weigh almost a pound!" Seriously? I work at a high-end restaurant in Santa Cruz County - and our brunch/breakfasts that include only eggs and potatoes cost less than $8 - they're freshly made & organic!! I should have left the food there & walked out - but I paid & took it - the potatoes really weren't bad - but those eggs were dead beyond repair.
