I go to this Safeway every day for everything I need BUT there's this one girl who always seems to pick on me . I use my red cart in the store and she is always watching me. Once i bought alcohol at the liquor store and went into Safeway and she was lifting up my purse so she could see the 6 pack that was in my cart. I told her you can't do that I bought it at the liquor store and then she said oh it's white claw and I said yes and you don't sell 6 packs here you only sell 12 packs . I am a big Safeway fan but I don't see why people are upset about this joint. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. Why? I love how it's open past late night because once in a year, I need to drive in the area for a church retreat and after some church related activities I make a Safeway run and this place is no exception. I find it really cool how I can get some very nice food and drinks to eat in a very nice location. Drawback: This is a smaller location which is the size of a train station so please don't count on getting bakery stuff. I could do better here if the staff doesn't act in ways that make customers uncomfortable. This is a small Safeway in the Santa Cruz mountains so don't expect the bells or whistles of other larger stores. That being said, I always receive friendly service and the store is clean. It meets my needs for the most part. My biggest annoyances are that they don't have a bakery here (I like my hot & fresh baguettes!) and the cellular service is bad so if you want to use a deal from the Safeway app you have to login to their public WiFi. I know they can't control the cell service so you just have to lean into that mountain living and make the best of it. Lines can be long at times but this is something I experience in most Safeway stores. Do not ever come into or support this Safeway. As a former employee I can say this place is a complete mess. Management does not care about their employees or customers. They do not treat their employees with respect and are over working minors illegally as well as always being understaffed. When employees try to contact managers they completely ignore and disregard the fact the store is short staffed and they are over working and stressing their employees.Half of the items in the store are expired and rotten. Many times I have needed to help pull carts full of expired food items filled all the way to the top. No customer should be paying out of pocket for expired items that could harm you. Multiple customers have come in bringing back old and expired food items as well as rotten meat.This should be unacceptable in a food setting. Managers do not do their job what so ever and belittle their employees AND customers. I have never had such a horrible experience at any other work place. The attitude and actions of managers and even some employees is absolutely unacceptable. Do not support stores that don't support their employees and customers. Over the past 5 months of working there I have seen the downfall and the true horrors of that store. This has caused me to be physically and mentally drained which is why I left as soon as I could. Do not support this store or the disgusting actions of manager. 90% of the time there isn't a manager there and they expect 3 people to run and entire store during the busiest time of the day leaving employees over stressed and customers angry for long wait times. I am a man of color who was not only traumatized but racially profiled, discriminated against , and harassed at your local grocery market. Shannon. I entered the store with my Caucasian fiancé, to buy some spirits for our house and pick up our kid from the bus stop at the same time as it was cold and he stayed inside Safeway waiting for us to arrive as told. We got there and looked at the selection as Shannon walks by the and starts fondling with some of the store's inventory, she asks from afar if we needed any help, i said yes when we're ready can you bring the key over. She disappeared and moments later we were ready so we pressed the attendance button. We were waiting for multiple minutes. At this point i was taken aback when a young boy no older than 17 approached to assist us with the alcoholic beverages in the case. At the same time, we did not realize we were being profiled as thieves. The young boy got us the locked up items. The local sheriffs came by to answer Shannon's call, we were then detained without question, or reason. As I tried to step away the sheriff Madison he grabbed my arm and said, "You don't get to walk away from me.", I'm a 30 year old black man and was completely triggered by the physical contact and just wanted space clarity and safety. Keep in mind we had been in the store for about 5-10 minutes looking at what we wanted , we pressed the service button once and no one came. I don't know if they assumed we were playing with it called the police and said our kid put something in his backpack he was merely putting calogne on, bored/passing time as he is an impulsive child with high functioning autism spectrum disorder. We were waiting for such a long time. At this time i told them to go check the cameras and they found everything to be true. We simply walked into Safeway to meet our cold son from off the bus, buy something and got framed as thieves, my fiancé owns a hair salon and i am an independent artist, we are hard workers, we have no intention of taking anything from anyone that does not belong to us. My rights were violated, i was discriminated against and i ask for immediate investigation & action. Your employee's conduct was unacceptable. I hope her profiling me and my family will be found discriminatory, racist, unacceptable, and not what Safeway stands for - these employees need to face consequences for their actions. The store is near the homeless camps and so there is a lot of sketchy folks wandering around ( they have to employ a security guard ). And oh my gosh don't got to the bathroom there...step away slowly... run! They should put a poster of Dustin Hoffman from outbreak in his CDC outfit with a cartoon bubble saying "Run Away". "The cash registers update at 1 am and we're closed for 30 minutes" Wow Ok. Let's take a look at late night demographics and shopping traffic patterns. Here's your clue ( for free even ) THE ONLY PEOPLE OUT ARE BAR AND CLUB PEOPLE WHO MIGHT WANT TO STOP AND SHOP. So here is a suggestion... -Setup your cash register update at 3 am when there are only coyotes and homeless people out and about. This is one of the smallest Safeways that I've ever been into. This one is about a mile or two from a much bigger location. Parking was no issue. It didn't look like there was anyone in the area. There were a couple of cars in the lot but again no issue finding a spot. No mess. No spills. Everything looked stocked. There's no bakery so keep that in mind. The bathroom was horrendous. It smelled. It wasn't clean. There was something that was wet (not sure if pee or water) on the floor. No mirror. Not paper towel to dry hands. The main purpose of the visit here was to grab food. Got some chips, sodas, and we got fried chicken. We also made customized sandwiches. All of it tasted pretty darn good although the service for the sandwiches could be improved. First off, no one smiled or interacted with us. It was such a robotic atmosphere. Second, we were a group of 8. Instead of both people helping us, we had one person helping and the second person did nothing and when he did go and do something he took an order from someone not in our group. 3/5 read more

I have never had a problem with this store it's my go-to store right down the street from my house quick, easy, always have everything I need and pleasant staff that make this small town safeway feel like home... until last tonight. I just got back in town after a long drive home I stopped here first to grab a few things to make a quick late night dinner. I got some Minute rice a bag of frozen mandarin orange chicken a carrot a bell pepper and green onions perfect air fryer "stir fry" and made my way to check out and as I am rounding the corner out of the produce department i hear *ding*ding*ding* for the second time in the last few minutes as i arrive at the check stand I witness an elderly gentleman ahead of me stacking the conveyor belt sky high full of food. again he reaches for the bell for the third time while simultaneously glancing towards me and insists I go ahead of him *ding*ding*ding* I thank the gentleman and step around him I put my rice and frozen mandarin chicken on the belt and place a divider behind them and glance over to the check stand behind me in search of produce bag I locate a roll with my single carrot, bell pepper and green onion in my left hand I snap off a bag with my right hand and wave it around a few times until it inflates with air and deposit my bell pepper and then green onion into said bag as I step back to the original check stand just as the cashier arrives we make eye contact. as I place the carrot into the bag i say "hey.. how ya doin?" as I hand him my bag of produce and begin to punch in my phone number... no response.. instead he immediately pulls out the carrot punches in the code and slaps it right down on the belt with a considerable amount of force enough to make the gentlemen behind me in line glance over at the sound. slightly alarmed I decide not to comment but I do politely tell him I put those items into the bag so that I didn't have to put them right on the counter (yes I know I will be washing them regardless when I get home but thats not the point) and just as the word counter exits my mouth, will looking into my eyes he tosses the green onion onto the belt.. I was sort of speechless.. why the disrespect? what did I do? all three items were priced per piece its not like he had to weigh any one of them individually and the green onions had a barcode as well as the bell pepper. I notice he had some earphones in so I ask him "can you even hear me...?" "...yeah" looking straight into my eyes. I stood there speechless and damn confused When no sooner he turns to the gentlemen behind me and with a pleasantly chipper tone notifies him that he can leave his case of water in his cart. Why did this happen? what did I do to this cashier, he wasn't just having a bad day, this was personal. this was directed at me. "What's the problem, man?" I ask. genuinely wanting to know.. "Your total is 14 somethin somethin.." he mutters as he turns to the gentleman behind, me and they politely exchange some words with each other which at this point just sounds like noise to my speechless confused brain that is starting to heat up. if this was his goal it was working he was doing a great job antagonizing me. or me that I'm irrelevant and a nobody who exists in this time and place for him to play psychological games with my head. this is my home store I will be returning. we'll see how things play out next time I see him. read more

This Safeway is reliable for one thing only --having only 2 registers open on any given day with 6-16 people waiting aaaaaaaall the way down the isle. Every time I ask, "You need to get another register open." I receive same canned answer... "We're sorry, it's only me and ____right now." It's 5pm! Busiest hour. I have dealt with the girl in question and Ziggy is not only out of his mind but sets the entire civil rights movement back 100 years by making false accusations on people doing their job. This girl is the happiest, most helpful employee in this store. My wife and I always love dealing with her and she always makes us laugh and she always has a smile. If this girl racially profiles people I am Santa Clause. Ziggy needs to stop playing the victim and making false claims about good, hard working people. Let me just start by saying that the people who work here are really nice and the low rating is not because of them. It is because of the inventory and layout. This store is heavy on convenience food and junk food. Whoever is ordering, it makes me feel like I'm not their target audience. Aisles are overstuffed (especially the end caps). Items are not intuitively stocked where you expect to find them but I will compliment them that their shelves are very well stocked. They aren't good at grouping items together but rather they put them in separate sections to send you on a wild goose chase. It takes forever to shop and is very frustrating. My pet peeve is when stores put the same classification of items on two separate ends of the store.. and this store does that. A perfect example is the deli is on one side with meats and cheese but yet there is a whole other deli/cheese refrigerator case on the completely opposite side of the store. So if one has something that the other side doesn't, you have to run back and forth to compare/contrast products or put them back. If you have mobility issues like I do, that's just the pits. Even if you don't have mobility issues, what a waste of time! People have better things to do. I hate the idea of not supporting my local market but this one is just a hot mess. I'm hoping that management and corporate read this and make a change. I'd like to return but not to the way it is currently set up. read more

As of a month ago, after being a regular customer at this Safeway for more than 23 years, I will no longer set foot in this store. On June 3rd, while standing in the express lane I was told by a Safeway employee, who was in line ahead of me, to back off. I was too close and not social distancing. I was wearing a surgical mask at the time and glancing down at the floor tiles (which are 12"x12") I confirmed I was indeed more than 6' from her but she continued to insist that I was too close. I decided not to argue with her and stood quietly while she finished her transaction and picked up her groceries. As I moved up to the register the store manager, Blair, is suddenly less than 2' from me chewing me out for not social distancing. I couldn't believe it. Even the checker that was helping me had a look of shock on her face and commented to me, after Blair walked off, that he should not have spoken to me in that manner and could have handled the situation a lot better than he had. I'm in my 60s and have NEVER had a business treat me like this before. Even though I have multiple friends that work, or used to work, at this store I will not shop here any more and will instead drive the extra 3 miles to the Scotts Valley store, which is larger, better stocked and cleaner anyway. read more

Then proceeds to tell me and my sister we need to be her daughters and asked to see our IDs. She was so rude and unprofessional and had so much attitude. Been going (in emergencies only) for years as it's only 3 miles from home. WORST Safeway I've ever had to use. Always. Today they had 3 checkers and I counted 23 people in line waiting to check out. Took forever and the checker I had talks more than he checks!! I had my own bag and when I walked out I noticed he'd charged me 25 cents for a bag. I went back in and told the girl bagging "I had my own bag and he charged me". I had handed him my bag when I finally got to the register and he had handed it to her. The person that was behind me had a huge counter full of groceries and the checker said "wait until I check him out and I'll give you a quarter". I said "are you friggin' kidding me"? After a few other choice words I just left. I don't care how desperate I get I'll drive the extra 3 miles to Scotts Valley from now on! They need to replace the manager first of all. read more

Just came back from shopping at Safeway, that store it's always in disarray.I happened to be in the produce department and I needed cilantro. And again they're out which has been going on now for approximately one week.I don't know about others but quite often when I'm shopping I'll talk out loud on what I need, so far at least I'm not answering myself. Well I happen to say why do I shop at this store they're always out of what I need which was directed at no one. One of the female produce employees I guess heard what I said and as she was walking away I heard her say why do you shop here. I second what Greg says. This evening, I stood in the checkout line 5 times longer than it took me to shop for 2 bags worth of groceries. Only 3 lines were open. Checkout lines extended all the way to the meat department. I let an elderly woman go ahead of me in line. She was extremely respectful to the cashier and suggested that more lines should be open. When she left, the cashier said to the young woman who bagged my groceries, "Why do people keep acting like it's my responsibility?" I would usually just say Thanks and be on my way, but I said, "She wasn't blaming you. She was expressing her opinion, probably in hopes that you will pass it along to the manager." Then he started again ("It's November, we have more customers this time of year" -- that's verbatim.) and I decided to leave it at that. Along with a decline in service, produce is much poorer quality than that at the Scotts Valley Safeway (which does not have lines all the way down the aisles) and shelves often seem neglected and not stocked regularly. Overall, staff is nice and the store is close to home, so I want to support my community by shopping in the community, but after my last visits to the Felton Safeway, I'm inclined to stop in Scotts Valley on the way home instead. read more

I've lived near by for 17 years now. I liked it a lot more with the old style it was about 4 years ago. Prices are good. Living close by I've come to know most of the cashiers, they are all friendly. The deli staff seems to change a lot and its hard to get to know everyone with the high turn over rate. I've talked to cashiers in the safeway right up in scotts valley safeway that had in the past worked at the felton safeway, and from what I've heard is that the boss in felton is a real Bi#*h so you have to give it to them, they are doing good for working under cr*ppy management and low wages. read more

The closest Safeway, as the crow flies, to Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. Good selection of pre-prepared sandwiches and salads and such. All I've purchased there lately was a breakfast sandwich for only $2.49 (pretty good, though nothing spectacular). That's more than half as much as the coffee shop a few doors down would charge for about the same thing. There are also lots of other minor conveniences in the same shopping center, such as an artisan coffee shop, a donut house next door, etc. read more

This isn't a review of Safeway so much as it is a review of the Felton Faire parking lot. That place is top notch. Sure people can complain about the questionable people that hang around there but think about it this way. If Heaven was just another place where people could hang out don't you think it would attract a bunch of weirdos? Exactly. This place is also a huge draw for aimless teens in cars who all want to meet somewhere. I myself spent many an hour hacky-sacking in this lot on a cold winter night when my friends and I didn't have any better place to go. Also a great congregating place for when you want to carpool but need to meet first. I guess the Safeway is alright too. They are along with Quik Stop, I think, the only 24 hour thing in the area. I live in Felton and would like to support businesses in Felton so I make this my grocery store for most all of our groceries. This is an extremely busy and lucrative store. As a customer I would feel appreciated if: 1) Say thank you when you hand me my receipt at the check stand. 2) Properly bag my groceries by not over filling bags and put lighter objects on top and heavier to the bottom. 3) Wipe off the conveyor belt when something has spilled on it. 4)Wash the carts. 5)Wash the sidewalks in front of the store. 6) Wear clean aprons. 7) Don't complain about the boss, other employees, work schedule. 8) please don't block the isles with boxes unattended. 9) fix the entry doors. 10) Teach a year 2019 Customer Service program. read more

This location is the worst Safeway franchise/chain I've ever shopped at. Always poorly stocked, and it is always packed with campers from Henry Cowell State Park down the road. The lines always take forever, sometimes I walk in just to walk back out. They usually don't have much ready made food and even the sandwiches take a while to make. Their beer selection is limited. Scott's Valley Safeway is not ideal either but worth the extra ten minute drive. I mostly come here just to use the ATM and if I need to buy anything I'll walk over to CVS. read more

I've been shopping at this Safeway for 30 years. It's been upgraded and rearranged over the years, and while smaller and less upscale than the one in Scotts Valley, I still prefer it. The staff are great, helpful, accommodating, and personable. They help me find things, even when it's right in front of me (!) and run to get items that I've forgotten to grab. They've taken my suggestions about getting items they don't have that I've seen elsewhere. The butchers are knowledgeable and helpful. Two check out stands open and the place was very busy on Sunday night. No excuse for this. Larry was our cashier tonight in the express lane. He was fast and efficient with his job despite the woman in line ahead of us who was very rude and demeaning to him. If I had been in his position I wouldn't have reacted so calmly and professionally. This Safeway is smaller than others but serves as a great local spot for quick relatively affordable groceries.
