I'm specifically reviewing the chicken tenders at Scotty P's in my quest to rate and rank the best chicken tenders in Dallas. Rolled up to Scotty P's near Firewheel Mall recently to try the chicken tenders. Scotty P's is really a burger joint, not overly famous for their burgers so I my expectations were tempered a bit. Tempered or not, these chicken tenders are for real! My inner 7 year old was delighted to see a heaping pile of 5 gigantic hand-battered, deep-fried chicken tendery goodness clinging to one another for fear of tumbling off the plate. This was a feast. The tenders were not only huge, but very tender and juicy. The batter was crispy, not to thick, not too thin, not too greasy- just right. The honey mustard was also very good. I can't speak to their burgers, but the chicken tenders here are legit and big enough to feed a small family, or share with someone you love...or at the very least can tolerate eating off the same plate as you. This place is GOOD!!! Burgers are big and the sides are so huge you can split them. We got fries and the onion strings since we weren't sure how much it came with. Been here a few times long ago and it was pretty good but tonight was great. I had the hatch green chili burger. It had a pile of green chilis, onion straws, and a mound of melted cheese. The burger patty was nice and medium and the bun was soft and tasty. We shared a half onion ring half fried pickles. The onion rings tasted home made. The good kind of home made. Absolutely wonderful burger establishment in the Firewheel shopping area. They're on the outskirts by a video store and have a very nice atmosphere for dining. I tend to eat here regularly on weekends and sporadically during the weekdays. Never once had a problem. They have a wide list of specialty burgers, all are cooked medium well, so if you want it any other way - just tell them. There are items for kids and meals with chicken tender plates or potato spuds. I've tried everything from the make it yourself burger to the chicken tenders, which are fantastic by the way. haven't been to scotty's in ages, thought we would go and grab the cardiac fries and try a few other items. walk in and find out they have remolded-it is a delight-they even have a bar. that was the end of the pleasant surprises. i don't eat a lot of red meat, i usually opt for chicken or fish depending on the restaurant, this time i chose the "papou's grilled chicken" what a huge mistake. i have never had any chicken grilled til it was so dry that i choked, i mean i choked 't want to and started coughing because the dry chicken was stuck in my throat! i ended up bringing it home and soaking it in water so that i could add it to a stew. i am a better cook than anyone at scotty p's. couldn't give it to the dog, as i care about what i give to my dog, don't want her to choke, or take the chance of loosing her to poorly prepared chicken. guess, i won't be returneing to this place even for the fries, can't take a chance, they might prepare them too dry. have plenty of water at your table if you go to this place to soak your food, it might be too dry. read more

Was craving burgers and went here as a suggestion... definitely hit the spot and was juicy! The fries were also very delicious and golden brown! I ordered the burger with the mushrooms, Swiss cheese, and onions... I can't quite remember the name of it. The only thing is that I wish the cashier asked me how I wanted my burger because I usually order my burgers with a little pink in it. I was craving a non-fast food burger which led me to this joint. I was a bit unsure about this place after reading the reviews but I was already here and my lunch break was ticking away by the minute so I decided to give it a go... Preston trail burger: chilli, grated cheese, onions, mustard, bacon (extra). I don't have a huge appetite and my eyes are usually bigger than my stomach, which was exactly the case with this burger. It was huge! I don't think I even finished half of it. Not that it tasted bad (wasn't very good either), but just due to the sheer size of this cow. Strawberry milkshake: another filling item that probably led to the demise of my appetite. I think this alone could have been my meal. A very well done shake! Total for 1: $14.10 A bit on the pricey side just for lunch but the milkshake didn't help the final tab. Overall: not a bad place for lunch, but don't think I'll be returning as I think there are better burgers to be had elsewhere. read more

These guys were great, but over the years the food ha been lacking with increased prices. Either the burger is too pink, or too burnt. Fries used to be much tastier. I think this place is solid, but I am never overly impressed. I do love some fries covered in cheese and bacon at times, but I think the ones at Snuffers and Jake's are preferable. I went here a few days ago with my sister, nephew and friend. I ordered the Greek salad with chicken. The salad was good with a decent serving, except the amount of chicken was really small for the serving size and price. I was expected to simply have some of their grilled tenders on top. Instead it was a few cut up pieces and they didn't seem to have that same marinade I like, it was bland. My sister got the grilled chicken tenders and fries and really enjoyed them, the marinade they use on the grilled tenders is delicious. My nephew and friend both got basic cheese burgers and they both said they were good. They didn't overly rave but thought they were well cooked and seasoned well. The service was good and the food came out pretty fast. Overall for the price, I think it is a solid fast casual restaurant. However, don't expect to be wow'd by anything. read more

Still disorganized and forgetful, only worse than before. My two kids ordered cheeseburgers; not a difficult task. My daughter's came back with the patty lukewarm and the cheese not melted, and my son's was missing cheese altogether. I walked them back to the counter and gave SPECIFIC instructions on what to correct. The cashier walked them back several minutes later claiming that all had been done. The green hatch chili hamburger was great. Just the right amount of heat and the onion strings that come on it were very tasty. These are good burgers and worth every penny. This is a fairly large restaurant with plenty of seating. There are several tv's. This is a good location in Fire Wheel, just on the east side of 78. I would recommend this place. read more

I have been going to Scotty P's at Firewheel for years. I particularly have enjoyed their Chris P Chicken Sandwich - one of the best chicken sandwiches I have found. Recently this particular location was bought, the space was renovated and a new staff was put in place. The renovation looks great and the staff are very friendly, but the food has changed. I have been three times since the renovation began and finished and the chicken sandwich is not what it used to be. The size of the chicken breast is smaller, and the quality of the chicken breast is poor - it has been very chewy and hard to eat all three times I have had it. The onion rings were big but soggy and not crisp. Scotty P's has a reputation to keep up and I am writing this to notify the new owners that the food has to be kept to the traditional Scotty P's standards. Do not cut corners on food quality to cover renovation costs. Please get back to what is should be. This food is not cheap as far as a burger place goes so please make it right! read more

I also had the pleasure of dining while Mr. Robert Earl Williams was in the restaurant. He is a daily customer, and he just loves meeting people. Good food and good company. Easily the best burgers at Firewheel. You won't be disappointed with their food. I got the BBQ Burger and just about everything was perfect on it. The meat was cooked to just the right temperature. My only critique for the burger is that they use shredded cheese instead of slices, which I have no problem with, but it wasn't melted all the way. The put the cheese on top of the BBQ sauce (which was very thick) so the hot meat couldn't melt it. I also recommend you go with the sweet potato fries. They are thin and crispy, which is perfect. read more

There food is usually good, I've spent way too much money here. They know us by name now. LOVE the sweet potato fries And great portion size :) I found hair in my cake once.... Pretty gross.... The food made me sick a couple times so I took a break from it I've had a few friends tell me that the food always makes them sick too.... So that's was interesting to hear from them. Went for the first time about a month ago. It was possibly one of the best chili burgers (Preston Trail) I've ever had. I went again and it was just as good. My wife had a chicken sandwich with guacamole the first time and really enjoyed it, but she was a little jealous of my chili burger. She got it the second time. The fries are good, but nothing to write home about. I still haven't had a regular burger there and that should be the ultimate judge, but so far I'm impressed. read more

If you want a good big burger then you have the right place. The make them fresh to order and they are huge. You can get a plain burger if you are boring. If you want something better you can get it topped with cheese fries, jalapenos and ranch. The chili cheese burger is great and messy. They make their own chili and its great just on its own. You can add bacon and a friend egg to any burger. They also have great gourmet hot dogs. So.... we've eaten at this establishment on many an occasion. We came tonight on a Friday night, 35 minutes to closing. Manny was awesome. However, the female manager on duty was out right NASTY. My husband went up to get a cheesecake as our son was still eating... the Manager snapped at my husband and informed him they were closed. She had her register closed for the night. We were not the only family still dining. Never have we been made to feel so unwelcome. Or have we seen someone be so verbally and even in her gesture so rude. We apologize for visiting your establishment on a Friday night and causing an inconvenience. We will make sure it doesn't happen again and do not recommend the experience to anyone else. Guys this place does the best cheese fries anywhere. My rating is about the fries, I have not had one of thier burgers as I always get the ham and cheese which I would rate high as well. Here's the deal on the fries, always taste like their using fresh grease, results in crispy fries ( not onion ring tasting, etc). They place a layer of fries in a foil lined bowl, then cover with shredded cheese, melt that, more fries, another layer of cheese and another melt job. Awesome! No soggy poured on cheese from a jar, no "cheese gone after first few fries". Good to know: one person order small and you will get more than enuf, a "reg" order comes in a huge bowl for 2-3 people. Well I want to give a detailed review so let's start with customer service. The girl at counter was nice but I'm not sure she took my order right but I did get what I ordered but I think it was an large cardiac fry instead of small but that was ok. The burger I ordered was good but it was the bbq burger and it had too much sauce. The sauce was good. Del's in Richardson and Meteor burger in Sachse or Wylie is a better bbq burger. I will try a different burger next time. The cardiac fries were the best cheese fries I have ever had. I know people like snuffers but those are thick fries, these are shoestring (my favorite) covered in cheese, bacon and chives. I was in heaven. I took half home and ate later from microwave which I thought would be disgusting but not at all. Craving them again a couple of days later. Definitely the star of the show. Read about them in some online article about best fries in North Dallas. The fries did take about 5 minutes longer to come out than my burger. Customer service definitely needs a makeover. read more
