A nice bakery in the back with different kinds of cakes and a lot of Italian cookies. Number of the boxes didn't actually have ingredients on the cookies and rolls, which makes it really hard to buy for people with allergies. The quality has changed so much that I will not be returning there. The deli does not cut cold cuts as ordered, the salads are bland, the "fresh bread" turns to mold in one day and the vegetables, lettuce, tomatoes, watermelon etc are old. Writing this in hopes that the store owner sees this. please be aware of the cashier and know your prices and what the total of your order should be around before heading to the register. The cashier have not once but 3x over priced my order. when I questioned them, they acted like it was my mistake and told me "what do you think I pocket the money". so it was clear to me that they have been doing this for quite sometime. When I told family and friends regarding this, they to have said it has happened to them. it's terrible knowing you are trying to keep small business alive and you have dishonesty employees. Well this was Top tomato was always my go to place I would shop there before I go to Shop Rite I believe in shopping local and shopping small when it turned to Scotty's and I'd loved the make over vegetables and fruit was fresh displayed appealing the last couple of times I've been there this past month I have to say the service has gone down as prices go up I think to myself should I be going to Shop Rite to save some money but I still continue to shop there now on to the cashiers unfriendly spend too much time on their phone and if I'm going to pay extra at least they can do is bag my groceries when I hand them the bags please and thank you and Hello is also a great trait for cashiers Now let's move to the deli try to get an Italian chicken cutlet tray but the kitchen was closing in a half hour so understandable they didn't want to take the order I call back a couple hours later my husband says just order wraps I called to have wraps made the gentleman goes on to say that I can get these in the deli case I wanted them fresh because I'm taking them to Jersey tomorrow and I didn't want them cut because it dries them out so I asked him you can't make it fresh he goes no. ‍. Nice deli department, very large selection of prepared salads, and cut fruit. They have Bell and Evans rotisserie chickens. Prices are fair, considering the inflation that we're suffering through. This is no Zabars, but very good for Staten Island. read more

Disgusting place with TERRIBLE Customer service. Older man behind deli counter should be fired. After waiting at deli counter (place was empty which is not surprising) for 5 min, he comes over and tells me one sec while he finished cleaning the deli slicers with a dirty rag. Doesn't change his gloves and proceeds to grab the chicken cutlet from the show case with the same gloves. When I questioned him about it, he said " so what, the rag wasn't that dirty, no one has ever complained about it". He gave me an attitude until I was finished ordering. Officially boycotting Scotty's. Everything is way over priced. The fruit is ALWAYS molded. They would rather sell molded fruit to customers to make the money then to discard it. Then they pick out the fruit in the molded package take the rest of it and mix it with other fruit and call it fresh fruit assortment. disgusting. This place hasn't failed me yet! Catered from them 3 times, ordered different food items each time and everything is delicious!! The presentation of everything is great too, from antipastos all the way to the dessert trays. All our guests are always so impressed with the food. Deliveries are always on time as well. During the pandemic I had a very hard time finding a place that would deliver groceries to me. I never had much luck with Shoprite's delivery service and Instacart was a disaster. This place was the only one I never had an issue with. They always delivered quickly and if something I requested wasn't available, they would call me ahead of time and ask if I was willing to accept a replacement. They would bring the groceries right to my door and I never had an issue. During such a difficult time, it was nice to be able to depend on their service when it was needed. Are they a little pricey? Yes.. but they're a local small business so that's to be expected. In any case, they were very dependable during a difficult time, and I'll always appreciate that. read more

I'm happy to say that scotty's on page ave is a pleasure to shop in. It is clean & well organized.The deli section where I catered for New Years was fresh and displayed well. The hot antipasto, chicken wings and pepper steak was delicious along with all the side dishes i purchased. Mike was very helpful . He even helped with my choices and carried out everything for me. Attended a mozzarella class with my wife tonight. Jeff our instructor did a fabulous job; he gave detailed instructions while keeping it simple. As part of our experience the store provided some vino as well as antipasto. At the end of the class we each received a gift bag which included the fresh mozzarella we helped make. I love this place. I really do. I discovered it just recently, when I was too lazy to head out to the supermarket. For once, my laziness paid off because I was pleasantly surprised. Top Tomato on Page Avenue is spacious and clean -- they carry the freshest fruits and vegetables I have ever seen. They offer a wide variety as well...their presentation makes everything look really desirable. Their meats are excellent quality -- not only do they look good in the store, but when they are cooked, they cook well. They have a small grocery area which is limited; however, I could easily pick up what I need there without resorting to a large supermarket. If you are inclined to spend more, they have a really nice offering of prepared foods. I would not say they are expensive, but they obviously cost more than if you were to buy all the ingredients and prepare it yourself. The best part? The prices are great! I was pleasantly surprised because I expected convenience store prices and instead discovered how competitive Top Tomato really is -- I always walk out spending less than I would have spent if I had gone to a supermarket and ended up with more. Just beware when you place an order with them. I placed an order for the Half Time on Super Bowl Sunday. I went there to pick my order up at 3:00. I gave them my name and he comes out with this list and he proceeds to tell me that my name is not on the list. I said that is impossible, we placed this order over a week ago. He goes into the back again and continues to help a few more customers so I think they are trying to figure out what is going on. After about 10 minutes I ask so what is going on with my order. He says, " I don't know what to say, your name is not on the list. I said, " I have people coming over in 2 hours and you are telling me you don't have my order. I said what am I supposed to do. Again he tells me I don't know what to tell you, your name is not on the list. What angered me the most was not 1 apology. They have a whole deli right there and he could have said let's try to figure something out. No, nothing. All he said to me 3 times was, I dont know what to tell you your name is not on the list. This review is based on their catering (yes, catering!) service. My workplace had a huge holiday party the other day and we needed a new place to get our hot food from. At about $10/person, Top Tomato gave us some really awesome, simple, hearty good food. I'm talking about down to earth blue-collar food, so don't go thinking it's filet mignon or anything. We had beef medallions in mushroom sauce, pepper steak, various pastas, roasted vegetables, stuffed eggplant, grilled chicken, chicken parm, and everyone's hands down favorite item, breaded fried shrimp. Honestly, people couldn't get enough of the shrimp, and I'm fairly certain it was just Italian seasoned breadcrumbs on butterflied shrimp. It was packed with immense flavor. All the beef dishes were incredibly tender! Not a single chewy piece out of the many, many portions I ate. Two thumbs up. The 5 star rating is not just for the tasty, simple food that appealed to the masses, but for the outstanding service we got. We dealt with Steve, who bent over backwards and went above and beyond for us. Because we had a huge party (~90 people) and bought additional food, he threw in some bread rolls, salad, and fruit. Oh, and plastic cutlery packets were included. He even fried a fish we bought, no extra charge! He did so perfectly, at that. That is legendary customer service, and I hope he gets some kind of commission. Need to know: When ordering for catering, do so 2-3 weeks in advance. 20% deposit is needed. You can rent food racks, sternos, table cloths, etc. The racks are essentially free, just put down a $10 deposit per piece and you get the deposit back when you return it. Top Tomato is always a quick shopping list stop for me. i can say the grocery section is fairly priced but anything off of a regular cold cuts, eggs, milk, and veggies can become pricey. I don't think I have ever received good service from the cashier girls in all my 10 years of shopping at page ave's Top Tomato. They are so removed and distant, are always on their phones and barely acknowledge me, and do not make me feel welcome or well-served at all. It's often enough to make me go somewhere else and to instead go only when it's the most convenient. I'm not saying I need a cashier who chats and takes her time but I also, especially when I am paying, don't want a rude one, which is mostly what I get. read more

This store carries a wide variety of produce that is well-priced. I have found that it is best to use it the day of purchase, otherwise it begins to turn quickly. The meats are an excellent quality, I think this Top Tomato has the best meat out of all their other stores. Their breads are also very good. i LOVE this place! Unfortunately I live much farther than I would like (think: many states away) and when I come back to visit Staten Island my parents live on the North Shore. No question, I make it to this Top Tomato everytime, despite there being a closer one to my house. The specialty foccacia with topping (chicken cutlet grilled or fried, eggplant, fresh mozzarella, and/or roasted red peppers) is pretty much my favorite thing ever. I make sure to go there and stock up on all different types so that I can freeze them and just reheat when I'm ready to eat and get sad about missing all the good food on staten island. They have great breads too (spinach, artichoke, or broccoli). I'm also a big fan of the rice balls, salads, and croquettes. basically, one of my favorite pick up and go places. ever. read more

I purchased a spinach bread the day before Easter, on Easter morning it had started to get mold spots, I hadn't realized the best by date was 4/19, I assumed they would have pulled this merchandise from the shelf. I tried to return it on Monday but the manager Steven was rude and laughed at me because I should have checked the date before I made my purchase. I don't live in New York but when I visit I make a very large purchase and bring it home with me. Never again.
