There was a bit of a wait for our table due to the fact we had a large group (twelve total, split up to two tables) and it was a Friday mid-morning before a big UT football weekend. The parking lot was full, but overflow parking was available in a lot next door. There were people waiting as we were seated and as we were leaving. So it was a very popular place on this particular Friday between 10am and noon. However, the restaurant did not seem overly crowded with the spacious dining rooms and high ceilings. Our group was there for about two hours from sitting down to leaving. We were not in a hurry so the relaxed vibe of a slower dining experience was fine for us. The food was savory, sweet and deliciously fresh. The portion sizes were quite large. Next comes your food options, plenty to suit all types of foodies. Today I had the filled crêpes. A hearty dish to fill even the hungriest of Vols. My daughter and I were looking for a good breakfast place and after much back and forth we came across Scrambled Jake's We arrived around 10am on a Sunday and although very busy we were able to score 2 seats at the bar. The bartender was very nice and attentive. My daughter ordered a mimosa and I had coffee. My coffee was delicious and never got empty. My daughter enjoyed her mimosa as well. We ordered eggs benedict and a garden omelette and both were delicious and arrived in a timely manner. Stopped here on my way to my Airbnb. The Uber driver said this was one of his fav spots in town so of course I tried it out. First of all, their orange juice is probably the best OJ I've had at a restaurant. It literally tastes freshly pressed which I was a big fan of. This restaurant has the absolute best breakfast I have EVER had the pleasure of eating! If it were located near me, I would become a morning person. I had the Jack's Favorite, substituting the American cheese with the Gruyère. They split my order so I could share with my mother. As an appetizer, we had the deep fried deviled eggs that were served with a spicy brown mustard for dipping. The server was very friendly, and didn't mind when I mentioned that I wanted to change the cheese from American. Busy restaurant that ran efficiently, but didn't rush me. Stephanie is waiting on us today. She is friendly and pleasant. She was also quite informative about menu items. We are seated at a high top counter by the bakery counter. The staff are all wearing masks. It's busy here. Doesn't seem they have the 6 feet requirement here for tables or seating. They have fresh squeezed OJ. They have freshly made cinnamon roll, not going to be a low carb breakfast in the end. It's hard to pass up on fresh cinnamon roll, when available. The OJ is fresh and slightly sweet here. We ordered the fungus among us scrambler, crab cake Benedict. Started with the big cinnamon roll and deep fried deviled eggs. It's going to be a glutinous breakfast today. There's a steak knife and a cinnamon roll, it's that big. The cinnamon roll frosting buttery and quite delicious. The outside of the roll is a bit hard, you have to get into the eye or center to get to the soft part of the roll. It was so big we could only eat about 1/2 or so. We mostly ate the inside of it since the outer layers were a bit hard and too crusty for me. The deep fried deviled eggs aren't bad, nicely panko crust, it's good with the mustard. The fungus among us isn't bad either, filled with a good amount and combo of mushrooms and lots and lots of cheese. My first crab cakes Benedict came with the standard poached eggs. The staff were cool bringing it out with a fully cooked egg for me. The crab cakes alone are yummy and super flavorful. I could eat them on their own. They have a lot of earthy and herby flavoring and texture to them. They are quite nice. The side of potatoes are cut like scalloped potatoes, a bit on the bland and tasteless side though. They use all fresh ingredients here, the mushrooms, potatoes and that's great. They also serve up cage free eggs in all of their egg based dishes too. I bought some frog jam for my mom, SIL and me. I've been coming here for years now and hands down this is the best breakfast/brunch spot in Knoxville! The classic cheese omelette is so decadent with the Alfredo cheese on top. But when you have reservations then asked to wait 30 min and 4th in line..then we go back after 30 min and now 6th in line!!!! This was a great Yelp find!! The whole family was in Knoxville for a visit/tour at UT. On go home day we wanted to get a good breakfast before heading off on our long drive home. No wait at all, got seated right away and our server showed up right away with menus and took our drink orders. Our server was quite attentive and patient, coffee cups were never empty and she gave us plenty of time to peruse the menu and answered our questions. Savory crepes were delicious, lived up to their name and were very savory. They are stuffed with eggs, shallots, Gouda cheese, and peppers rather than the typical fruit filling. Here Figgy Figgy toast was great! The fig infused goat cheese wells awesome. Pancakes were enormous!!!! French toast and biscuit and gravy were the only not great items, but they weren't bad, just not great. Could have used a little more vanilla in them maybe, and the bread was so thick the very insides were not quite cooked up and a little damp. But not bad!!! Biscuit was good, gravy was light on the seasoning but did have some for sure. This is probably more of a personal thing vice an issue because I do like my gravy very peppery and I understand a restaurant has to cater to all palates but just mine. Fantastic brunch spot. This place is very popular on the weekends, so make sure you go online and get on the waitlist prior to driving to the restaurant. My daughter and SIL took me out for Mothers Day along with the 2 grandchildren. The wait was long and it was a very hot muggy day. We've been here many times before. Food has always been great. Atmosphere is nice but concrete floors makes for a loud noisy meal. We were waiting outside when one of the other Mothers waiting for a table passed out. As she fell, she fell face first into a brick half wall. As an RN, I went to check on her. There also was a paramedic waiting. As she slowly came too we noted that she blacked out, not remembering she hit her face. A by stander went inside to get water. The restaurant offered to call an ambulance but the woman said no. It was hot, muggy and the woman had not eaten as most those waiting. Her blood sugar was low and that's why she passed out. She banged her for head. Bloodied her nose. Busted her lip and got an abrasion to her face arm and knees. We were able to sit her to a chair. Another by stander went inside to ask for orange juice and Scramble Jake's refused. I went in and told the maitr'd I needed orange juice for a medical emergency and the first thing out of her mouth was- oh she refused an ambulance. So I reminded her that this was a medical emergency and the woman still needed orange juice to which I was told that she would go speak to the manager. After a minute or 2 she spoke to the manager and he approached me asking me if I need it any assistance. I told him a woman outside had a medical emergency and needed orange juice. I asked if he could please get a glass of orange juice for her and he said who is going to pay for the orange juice? He also said, oh she's the one who refused an ambulance. My response to him was yes she did refuse an ambulance. However she still is in a medical emergency and we still need to give her a cup of orange juice. I told him we still need a cup of orange juice but he was still more concerned And continue to ask Who was going to pay for the cup of orange juice. At that point the woman's daughter-in-law had come inside to see what was taking so long and getting a cup of orange juice and at that time the Manager named Clayton finally went to get a cup of orange juice. But he made sure to let us know he was not happy. I told him I do not have a problem pain for the orange juice. We just need a glass of orange juice please get it quickly. We provided the juice and the woman was getting better. Her adult son was very concerned that Scramble Jake's had no compassion for what had happened. He went inside to talk to The manager. The son was upset that she passed out in the heat and it took multiple people to impress upon the restaurant to give her juice. Clayton the manager put his hands on the sons shoulder but the son told him to take his hands off him. At this point the Manger said he will call Knoxville police. (Manager wanted to press charges for trespassing) Knoxville police showed up and told us (the crowd waiting) that they got a call because there were people who refused to leave. Even Knoxville police were surprised at the level of heartlessness and no compassion. While police were there the son wanted at least for the manager to come out and see the woman ( so he could see this was all accurate) but he refused to come see her or talk to her. Instead he threatened to press trespassing charges against the fallen woman and her adult son. No incident report was done on her behalf. Even though the family asked. My family witnessed this whole event from start to finish. We were upset as the manager was approached by my SIL to tell them we were leaving and take us off the list. My SIL asked- couldn't you just give them a table so she could get food? ( there were a number of clean 4 seat table empty) but Clayton said no. "If I started giving a table to every person who felt sick I would not be able to sit my people waiting. All in all this manager was MORE concerned with the cost of an juice cup than a woman who fell face first into the brick wall outside while waiting almost 3 hours.
