What a cute little place! When we walked in we were seated immediately. I found the place to be clean, nicely decorated with a friendly smiling staff. The menu choices were vast which sometimes makes me nervous. We decided on a angus burger with pepper jack and a cup of homemade split pea soup. The burger came with a hand formed, juicy patty seasoned perfectly with lettuce, tomato and onions. The bun was run of the mill but it held together considering the size and juiciness of the burger. The diner is easy to find, west side of road right after mini mart and the bar.The tiny parking lot has 6-8 spaces. At 11:00 am on Sat there were plenty of open tables. Service was friendly and cheerful. Little slower paced than Portland but that's ok. Breakfast choices are many. Omelettes, pancakes, waffles, french toast, grits two ways!!, taters, meats. Most anything you could think of. Dining companion got deep fried french toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, oj and coffee. He was satisfied. I ordered the ham and cheese omelette with pineapple salsa, hash browns, wheat toast, orange juice and coffee. My omelette was delish as was the salsa. The hash browns were crispy and not greasy. There are good lunch and dinner choices too. Loaded angus hamburgers??Buffalo burgers? Fried chicken gizzards? A blt? Chicken and dumplings? Think I'll come back for lunch or dinner sometime soon. After an afternoon of bike riding trails in Chehelam Ridge Nature Park, my wife and I decided to look for some good eats in nearby town of Gaston. After checking Yelp for suggestions, we decided to try Screaming Chicken Diner. This establishment is a smallish, modest looking, cafe in the center of a very small working man's (and woman's) town, surrounded by farms and wooded hills. Inside, we were pleased to find a quaint old fashioned diner. Maybe seven tables and a few seats at a small counter. From the decor on the walls, it was obvious that this cafe was rooted deep in the surrounding community. Our waitress was older mom/gramma looking and very competent and gracious. I suspected she might be the owner. The menu selection was surprisingly vast. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Prices were very reasonable. Since fried chicken was prominently promoted we both ordered chicken dinners. Included healthy portions of fried chicken, mashed potatoes/gravy, cole slaw or fruit and bread (garlic or corn bread). Beverage was included. Entire meal was made from scratch! No prepackaged foods here. Everything was delicious. Leftover chicken went home to enjoy later in the evening! Good food, good people! My family came in for lunch after zip lining and not only appreciated the good food, but the kind folks who work there. I apparently hadn't eaten enough in the morning and came in feeling faint. One staff member asked if I was ok and seeing that I wasn't, grabbed me a chair and put me right under the air conditioning and brought an ice pack. She kept checking on me until my food came, so sweet and appreciated! My kids all said the food was great, and I'll be making a trip back to actually eat up when I'm normal! I come across this place on yelp and my wife and I drove out to Gaston tonight to check it out. We were impressed with the service, huge selection and really good food. This is your prototype small town diner. My wife had the fish and chips and I had the farmers burger. Both were wonderful with home made fries and fry sauce. Drinks came with the meal and the milk shakes looked huge. We unfortunately did not try the shakes or desert as we were way to full from the meal. This place is fantastic! The service is quick, helpful, friendly, and attentive! I've never had a bad meal here and I'm incredibly impressed to find a location where they do gluten-free well! I have a dear friend who can't do gluten and we're now able to meet here instead of driving 45 minutes in to Portland. In short...this place is a local grease spoon that serves real home cooked meal. On a beautiful Oregon day, I decided to drive into the country after taking a morning class. Before heading out, I checked to see if there is anyplace that was serving breakfast in the Forest Grove area. Never heard of this place, but being from Jersey, I miss my diners. First impressions, clean shop with an open kitchen and looks like 'mom' is in there cooking. My server was friendly and gave me time to look over the menu. Ordered the biscuits and gravy with no meat and a side of scrambled eggs with a coffee. Not much time went by before I got my meal nice and hot. The eggs were FANTASTIC. I despise overcooked eggs, it really shows a good cook when someone can pull them from the heat. These were perfect. Not too runny and not overdone. Really, just right. The biscuits were tasty and I kinda wished I ordered them by themselves because the gravy was so so. I'm sure the ones with meat taste better. Will I go back, absolutely. My man likes his meat and seemed excited on the roadkill patty. Apparently it's a mixture of beef, buffalo, and pork. He didn't accompany me this time, but I don't think it would be too hard to get him to feast. Oh, and it was nice that the bill for my meal only came to $7.50. Thought we would give Screaming Chicken one more try. This will definitely be our last. 2 previous times we were less than impressed and this was no different. Burnt pancake and thin undercooked bacon. Pancakes are the easiest & cheapest breakfast item to make, if you burnt it please just make a new one! It was my daughter's 8th birthday and the staff heard us discussing with a table next to us.. they were so nice and several of the staff came out to wish her a good day.. then the chef came out and actually made an announcement so the entire restaurant sang to her and clapped.. it was the highlight of her day.. then the food came.. holy smoke.. delicious.. We got french toast for the birthday girl and a simple burger for me and it was absolutely wonderful. I want to make it a regular stop for us in the event we drive through the area. What a fun little "middle of nowhere" dive cafe! Run by a couple of friendly "little old ladies" who could be your grandmothers, everything here is made from scratch. A bonus is they will make gluten-free dishes on request. We had some mighty tasty fried chicken with mash and gravy (tip - order extra gravy). The chicken was beer battered, not breaded. Good looking breakfast menu, and nice range of traditional burgers and sandwiches. Caveat: it's small, and everything's cooked to order so it can get backed up. When I first heard about this diner opening, in an article in our local newspaper (we live in Forest Grove, OR), I thought it would be a nice place to try. I liked the idea of great breakfast food made with fresh local ingredients. I liked how it wasn't too far to go. And I liked the name. It has taken us a while to go but this morning my husband and I both said, "Today's the day." The diner is right on Highway 47 and the sign just says "Diner". We walked in and glanced around. Though the space is small, it isn't super crowded. The decor is simple (not at all a chicken overload) with rustic pictures and it looks clean and organized. We waited for a little bit as the staff cleared some tables. We sat down and glanced over their menu. There were lots of good breakfast items, including chicken fried steak, omelettes, Belgian waffles and buttermilk pancakes. But if you feel so inclined, you can order lunch menu items any time of the day. My husband got their chicken fried steak, eggs sunny-side-up, country potatoes and a buttermilk pancake. I got the buffalo ground steak, over easy eggs, hash browns, and a buttermilk pancake. The portions are great and we definitely didn't leave hungry (as our server said we wouldn't). Everything was really well cooked- the eggs and meats were perfectly executed, the pancakes were light and fluffy, the potatoes were well seasoned and crispy. My guy loved his chicken fried steak and the gravy that came with it. Normally we are very picky about gravy as it is either way too salty or simply tastes like flour. Their gravy was a great smooth consistency (not runny or gelatinous) with really great flavor. I really liked that they offer a buttermilk pancake instead of toast. The best part about the pancakes? The outstanding syrup they make in house. It has a beautiful caramel appearance and flavor and was literally the best syrup I've ever had. The staff here is helpful and nice. I've traveled much of the country over the last 45 years and I always look for small diners, since that is where the best (or worst) food can be found. The Screaming Chicken Diner in Gaston, Oregon is one of the best that I have found. My wife normally doesn't finish her meal because she is a light eater. Plus she is gluten intolerant (gets sick for a couple of days). She got the omelette special with a gluten free pancake and she ate it ALL! I've never seen her eat so much food. I had a classic chili & chips and OMG it was good. Root beer float with lots of ice cream and a second glass of root beer, just in case there wasn't enough. We were going to split a piece of home-made banana cream pie, but we were both too stuffed. So we now have an excuse to go back and we definitely will. Highly, highly recommended!!!! read more

I stopped in, a few days before 2014 Thanksgiving and it is truly a great local, mom and pop diner. The majority of the food is (home)made right there (no canned, frozen, packaged stuff). I loved my breakfast and the potatoes were perfect fresh, home-style ones...which is one of the ways I personally judge a diner by. :-) If you're looking for a fine dining experience, where the waiter hovers over you, with 'über healthy/fairly tasteless' food that resembles small pieces of art... then don't bother. So sorry we observed two different patrons who were not required to wear masks in the restaurant when not eating. One woman was seated at a table with 3 others they all wore masks. A couple came in while we were waiting to order and the man refused to wear a mask so the waitress told him if she put a glass of water on his table he wouldn't have to wear a mask, seated him and rushed over with water glasses. He and the other patron with out a mask got in to a discussion about how stupid wearing a mask was. They were the only two not in compliance. We will not be coming back until the COVID-19 pandemic is over. We do not want to take chances with our health and unfortunately not enforcing the current mandate hurts us all. Good old fashioned cooking. Definitely tastes like a home cooked meal. They use high quality ingredients from scratch and it shows. I've had several types of meals here and they've all been great. Great Discovery! I decided to take my motorcycle out for a spin on Sunday, coming over the hill through Laurelwood- from Hillsboro. I stopped in around 12:30 for some lunch, finding this cute little diner and hoping for something unique. I wasn't disappointed, as the interior was quaint and simple. I ordered a veggie omelette and country potatoes, which were awesome. Add some coffee, and watch the Blazers on their big screen, and you've got a complete lunch experience. Almost evrything about this place is pretty top notch. The service is great, and the food is good. The prices are very reasonable. My only complaint is the stubborness by the owner to not offer normal syrup to customers who do not like the homemade stuff they sell. We stopped going here because we were tired of smuggilng syrup in to enjoy our breakfast. The refusal of this place to offer some Mrs. Buttersworth or such causes us to take our weekly family breakfast elsewhere. So the math is a 5 dollar bottle of syrup is more important than my family of 5 eating here a few days a week. Not very smart math for a businees owner. read more
