Screamin' Mimi's Ice Cream had some absolutely fantastic ice cream in Sebastopol. We walked in and I ordered a small cup of the peppermint stick as well as a cream soda Italian soda and both were delicious. The ice cream was melt in your mouth and reminded me of when restaurants would crush up candy canes and mix them into milkshakes for the holidays. The service was friendly and the space was easy to navigate even with the line. All in all, we would definitely return! read more

There is truly no better ice cream than what you'll find at Screaming Mimi's. I don't mean just in Sonoma County, but certainly there, as their annual awards for "Best Ice Cream" in all local Sonoma County and North Bay "Best Of" contests have shown every single year since they opened. I mean it is the best ice cream I've ever had, anywhere, in this country and others. The ice cream is impeccably crafted, using many local ingredients and it is consistently excellent. Also, the owner must be a great picker of people, because the young people who work there are warm, friendly, and efficient. It is always a pleasure to deal with them; they never give off, the "I-hate-working-here-and-customers-are-irritating" vibes that can sometimes be found in establishments that primarily hire young people. And I have never seen employees on their phones, which is also pretty remarkable. Excellent product, good people, and a colorful and enjoyable environment puts Screaming Mimi's in a league all its own. And lest you think I'm the owner's sister or a shill for the company, let me assure you I'm just a regular customer who has a enjoyed and appreciated this business since the day they opened decades ago, and I just never got around to writing a review until now. There's not a flavor I don't like. I really enjoy that they offer seasonal flavors like lavender. Give it a try if you're visiting the area. You won't be disappointed. I do miss their old way of weighing the ice cream and charging by weight. You had the option to add some more of a specific flavor if you wanted to. Absolutely outstanding ice cream spot!!! Probably in my top three ever! I'm staying at an AirBnB in Sebastopol and this ice cream spot was recommended as the best ice cream spot in town. Went here after having dinner at Fern Bar on Saturday night and it was packed! My wife and I got sundaes and they were ready in 5-10 minutes. The staff were super friendly and it's a fun ambience in there. Not like a BR or cold stone with the fluorescent lights. It's clear this is a cherished local spot. We loved it so much we went back the very next night and got the same stuff! Both nights we were helped by Audrey and she was super friendly and accommodating of our indecisiveness. My wife and I come to Sebastopol for our anniversary and this ice cream spot will DEFINITELY become a yearly tradition for us!! read more

My family has been coming to Screamin Mimi's for many years. I could not imagine Sebastopol without this establishment. This little corner ice cream shop is super cute. They have very colorful merch, and besides their ice cream they also do ice cream cakes and pies! The ice cream here is all made in-house. They use a lot of local ingredients and natural flavors to make their ice cream. On this particular visit, I was very much in the mood for Fall flavors. I tried their vegan pumpkin mud with their pumpkin spice caramel sauce. The caramel is not vegan for those who are wondering, but it's so good! The vegan pumpkin mud has fudge pieces and cookie pieces. It is really delicious. My wife loves trying their fruity sorbets and their olive oil when they have it. She loves to combine their Cassis sorbet and their olive oil ice cream together. My daughter always gets a vanilla sundae with hot fudge and whipped cream. I like how it was a nice walk from the Barlow- helped us digest to make more room for ice cream haha The kid's size is nice for those who want a big (pricey) spoonful size, so if you want more, get the bigger size! We sat outside since it was so nice that day. The sidewalk isn't the widest so when a throng of people waited outside, it got quite crowded next to our seats. What a wonderful ice cream shop! Honestly, I was a little skeptical because of the name and the decor, but this proves that you should never judge a book by its cover. The ladies inside were so kind- I was able to try a few flavors and the coolest part is- even for a small size, you're able to have as many flavors as you want in it! (Granted, the more flavors, the less the scoop will have). I got the English toffee (coffee base but the toffee really shone!), cookie break (yum- give me all the cookies and all the texture), and Mimi's mistake (peanut buttery!). There were a few other flavors I tried but I was already happy with those 3 and the serving was pretty generous for a small. This is shop is a gem and a local favorite for good reason; the quality and taste are top notch. The standards are done exceptionally well; the strawberry ice cream is made with fresh strawberries sourced from a local farm just down the road. If you drove on highway 12, you passed it coming or leaving Screamin' Mimi's and the farmstand on it's own has a big following. My personal favorite is the Mimi's mud as it's a fun take on mud pie. I also find the price of the hot fudge sundae to be one of the best values in the county. On a beautiful sunny day, you will encounter a line and it's for good reason and worth the wait. Cute ice cream place in downtown Sebastopol. It is popular too and has seating inside and outside. I tried to experiment with a local flavor - Bees knees- lavender with chocolate honeycomb bits. The ice cream texture is nice and creamy. The honeycomb was yum too. I wasn't a fan of the floral flavor but it was a good try. My family tried waffle cones with blueberry and mint chocolate chip ice cream and enjoyed it. I hope to try another flavor when I'm back :) read more

The furniture and décor feel outdated, giving it a quirky, retro vibe that's charming in its own way, though not modern or polished. We tried the Mocha Shake and the Black & White. The Mocha Shake was good, though nothing particularly memorable. The Black & White, unfortunately, was one of the worst drinks I've ever had -- extremely bitter and tasting not much different from a generic can of sparkling soda, which makes sense since it's essentially an Italian soda. I recommend letting the ice cream melt first for a slightly more enjoyable drinking experience. Overall, I can see why people love Screamin' Mimi's for the nostalgia and its long-standing presence in Sebastopol. With so many items on the menu, I'm sure there are some excellent options -- I just haven't found the right one for me yet. read more

I had great hopes... My husband and I dropped in on a Thursday night - I got one of the coffee flavors, and asked for a taste of the raspberry sorbet. I got that taste as a SCOOP mixed in with my Coffee - not a good combo. Several other people that came in later were actually given tastes - so that was disappointing. I also asked for the big "fresh waffle cone" with it - they have a sample small cone and big fresh cone at the counter. The fresh cone I got was the size of the small cone - but we were charged for the big one. Also disappointing. The Raspberry sorbet was - almost flavorless!?!?! SUPER disappointing. I'll be honest, the Talenti sorbetto tastes more like raspberry, and you can get it in the grocery store. The mocha was good, but not great - I was hoping for that rich, creamy, homemade ice cream flavor and texture - it was not really that. Huge chunks of chocolate in it, which overwhelms the coffee flavor. My husband got three flavors, and said the dark chocolate was excellent - but the other two were nothing different from good quality grocery store ice cream. To add to it - for some reason, they are VERY SLOW. There were two orders ahead of us, and each one took a couple of minutes to do 2 or 3 bowls of ice cream - I guess they weigh EACH serving to make sure they don't give over than 5.5 or 7.5 or whatever ounces? I wanted to go in back and give them some procedures to move things along a bit quicker. I also noticed after we ordered - they DO give tastes - for some reason my request got short circuited. And they got really busy after we ordered, so the slow scooping became a real problem, and when they'd call out an order, multiple people tried to grab it. Overall, some of the ice cream seems to be good, and my husband would come back JUST for the dark chocolate. Me personally, not sure I'd return, I've had much better ice cream. Always a line, today was not too bad. The ambience, as usual, was busy with steady flow of customers. I don't come here often but in the past l recall unique and impressive flavors that stood out. I saw on the menu, double espresso chip, usually my favorite I've cream flavor that i get from Haagen dazs (coffee chip). And i got raspberry sorbet on the bottom of the home-made cone that i wanted to try because you can smell them baking. I got the regular size ice cream, even though i realize it was more than i wanted, but the gal said it fit better. It appears they no longer offer tastes, like other premium ice cream parlors still do in the County. I was disappointed in the double espresso because the description made it sound like a sort of coffee ice cream with espresso infused chocolate chips. It tasted much like vanilla ice cream with very slightly coffee infused chocolate chips; i thought they errored giving me simple chocolate chip but they said no it was correct. The raspberry sorbet was nice and refreshing. The cone was average tasting; similar in taste to a regular waffle cone but it looked nicer, a little thicker. I used to think this place was the best in the county; Well, they've got competition now. The still might be best in sebastopol though, as I've not seen another real parlor in that town. read more

Which it may very well be often. The reputation keeps 'em coming, and the creamy deliciousness makes 'em return. Finding a place to sit after you get your order can be challenging; there's not a lot of seating inside or outside. We were able to snag a bench out front. We were there about two months ago, and I'm slow to write this review. I don't remember the flavor I chose, but I do recall that I enjoyed it. The flavors and innovation would entice me to go back when in the area again. The ambiance was a bit too something for me. I'm usually good with words, but Mimi's vibe sort of escapes me by way of trying to describe it. Colorful and bright, it is that. I had the best ice cream I've had in a very long time at Screamin' Mimi's. We were following a local's recommendation who raved about the abundance and quality of ice cream flavors, and the shop was a 5-minute walk from the microbrewery where we ate dinner. Plus, we couldn't resist the adorable ice cream cone sign hanging above the shop. Upon entering the shop, we were greeted with the aroma of fresh waffle cones. The shop had a long list of flavors for every type of craving, and it was really hard to decide what to order. The best part was that we were not limited to one flavor per cone; they would attempt to squeeze in as many scoops as possible into whatever size you chose. I ordered the mini waffle cone with one scoop of Cookie Break and one scoop of Mimi's Mud. Both flavors were phenomenal. Mimi's Mud might have been my favorite since there was a generous brownie to ice cream ratio, but I would definitely order both flavors again. The fresh waffle cone took the experience to the next level. If I was less full after dinner, I would have gotten the bigger cone to try more flavors. I guess I'll have to come back! read more
