Because gluten-free rolls are smaller than their regular rolls--which are huge--they put as much cheesesteak as would fit on my sandwich and served the rest in a small bowl on the side. That way, my portion wasn't smaller just because I needed the gluten-free option. I really appreciated this thoughtful touch. At most restaurants, the gluten-free version is smaller even though I'm paying the same price--or sometimes paying extra for the gluten-free bread. Not here! Okay, so this place is small and quirky. There is Green and Gold, but it's not for the Ducks - it's for the Packers. It was super busy there, but we got lucky to get a table and the service and food came pretty fast. And oh boy, those sandwiches were amazing. You'd never know this place was here but wowza what a great stop! We pulled off in Eugene on a roadtrip and found this place bc they offer gluten free hoagies. Wow! Hidden gem in Eugene. The place looked closed from the outside which I will attribute to the time of day and day of the week. The literal neighborhood bar, built in one of the older homes in an otherwise residential area. My nephew suggested this place recently and my husband and I were in town and decided to give them a try. The dude at the counter said he would bring us our drinks and told us there was seating out back if we wanted to sit outside. (You don't order at the table but at the bar and they bring you your stuff) The outdoor seating was pretty great really. A little oasis in the pit of Eugene (not a downtown fan), you could almost forget your in the middle of town. Quiet, a little water feature. It was nice. Let's talk about the food! The flatbread... I don't normally like jalapeño poppers but it looked so good I gave it a try. So Good! Ate three pieces. The sandos? Yep. Should have split them. The bread was so good, they were hot sandwiches and piled with groceries. I ate every bite of exactly one half a sandwich -- as did my husband. Decided I needed another beverage and went inside (tab was open) and the same guy explained that anything in the cooler (we were having an Avid Cider) we could just grab, he just needed to "pop the tab" - some might like this aspect, I thought it was great. Scribles absolutely does not qualify as a date night destination-- unless it's, say, your 25th date. Still, going with a compatible eater is a good idea because you'll likely be splitting one of their huge, delicious sandwiches. I've sampled four of them: pastrami, Philly, the Turn (akin to an Italian sub) and French dip. All were good enough to order again, which is an exceptional record. The ingredients are notably high-quality and the preparation solid-- even a bit creative. As a former Philadelphian, I'd modify the meat/cheese/onion proportions of the Philly, but this is nitpicking. Really, this place is a gem. read more

My husband and I tried Scribles for the first time today and absolutely loved it! We came in around 12:30 pm on a Saturday and waited about 15 minutes for our sandwiches, which was a pleasant surprise. My husband tried the Jeter and I had the toasted Italian. I can't say enough good things about these sandwiches. They were packed with flavor, from the refreshing lettuce and deli oil to the loads of high quality meats and cheeses. The bread was toasted just right and still soft and easy to eat. Sandwiches this large usually fall apart but these held up the entire time. Aside from the food, the service was also great. The person who served us was incredibly friendly and attentive to everyone in the restaurant. Overall, it was a really enjoyable lunch and we left feeling full and satisfied. Stopped by the neighborhood deli and SO glad that we did. Their prices are pretty steep ($15+ per sandwich) but their portion sizes made it feel worth it. We got the Reuben, The Turn, and the Toasted Italian. The Reuben and the Toasted Italian were pretty heavy, and very filling. They were all roughly 12" long. Scribles feels like a neighborhood deli/bar. It's a little small to serve as well as a third place, but definitely has that vibe. The staff was very friendly and the service was pretty quick (though it's definitely slower than your dime-a-dozen Jimmy John's or Subways). Was walking around my new neighborhood awhile back and stumbled upon this hole in the wall sandwich spot. Cool pseudo-sports bar type vibe. It was slow and I had a beer while I looked over the menu. There was another guy sitting at the bar drinking and talking with the woman working. Then this place got busy in a HURRY! I ordered my food before it was too late and to my surprise the man at the bar got up went behind the bar, poured himself a drink, and proceeded to start cooking my food. For nearly $20 I expected my food to be served more promptly and presented better. The Philly had so much cheese I'm afraid of what it did to my insides. The man drinking/cooking was cursing up a storm as they handled what I was told was a fairly normal lunch rush. I then found out the clearly drunk sandwich chef was the owner of the establishment.
