I am writing this to warn other parents about the treatment my 17-year-old daughter, "Mary Jane," received at Scruples Hair Salon. In September, she went in just to get her hair highlights. During her appointment, the owner, a man with glasses, approached her and told her that her hair was "ugly and dead" and "needed to be cut." Feeling pressured and self-conscious by these comments, she allowed him to cut her hair. The result was a disaster. The haircut was uneven and left her hair in a dry, brittle state that has taken months of expensive treatments and extensions to manage. While she did receive some highlights that were part of the service, the unexpected, forceful haircut combined with additional products pushed the total cost to nearly $700, far more than what she had expected to pay that day. She has been forced to spend significant money and effort just to restore her confidence and repair the damage caused by this "professional." The Financial Reality: The salon has attempted to dismiss our concerns by focusing on the "service fee" of $440. However, after being pressured into additional products and the forced haircut, the total came to $700. It is unacceptable to use such high-pressure tactics on a teenager--first insulting her hair and then charging a premium total for a result that left her devastated. Zero Accountability: When we reached out to address the emotional and physical impact of this service, the salon was cold and dismissive. Instead of offering any remedy for the poor workmanship, they sent messages stating: * "There is no further action we are able to take." * "A phone call would be strictly for clarification and closure, not to... alter the outcome." They have since blocked us, refusing to take any responsibility for the distress caused to a minor. They even tried to question timestamped photos that clearly show the poor quality of the cut. The Bottom Line: This salon showed a complete lack of empathy and professional ethics. They took advantage of a minor's trust, humiliated her, and charged a total of $700 for a service that resulted in months of psychological stress and hair repair. Do not get a haircut from Frank. He a absolutely messed up my hair cut. I asked for simple layers and face framing with a few strands of whispy bangs and he gave me the choppiest cut i ever had in my life i cried. On top of that i asked for a blow out and he straightened my hair showing off the choppy hair cut. Now i always have to pin my hair up because i am so embarrassed to keep it out and its so uneven it looks horrible. read more

Disappointed and not returning. Place is dirty with junior stylists. If you ask for someone senior will cost you a lot more for the services and may as well leave your pay cheque. The best place for a cut Not only is the staff at Scruples super friendly but they also know what they're doing. You can't ask for more when you are not only treated right but also get to leave looking your best. Highly recommended. The worst haircut I have ever had. Hair looks like it was butchered rather than cut. My right side is longer than left. Random chunks are of different lengths even though I specifically said no layers. The whole process was rushed because there was another client right after me. As for colour - I asked to stick to brown tones, showed several pictures so there was no room for misinterpretation. Instead, I got some ashy mix of blonde/grey balayage. My original colour was closer to what I wanted. Disappointed doesn't begin to describe it. Overpriced. Customer service subpar. Also why are your employees high on the job? Never had such a bad result, especially at $350+ and with a senior stylist. Would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I bought a special trial coupon for $50 from a company (not associated with Aveda or Scruples) and decided to give it a try. 4 visits including: hair styling & wash, manicure, facial spa, and makeup & hair color. I booked the appointments for my girlfriend and I to have a girl's day. (We did this for all 4 visits) As you walk in you're greeted by the front desk and a robe is given for you to wear. The salon is clean and well stocked with great aveda products. My fave is the Shampure Composition. During my manicure spa I had my hands soaked in a solution of it and they smelled lovely all day. I had to buy my own bottle by my second visit! I also purchased some great products for curls. I have recommended this place to friends and they loved it! I never had any issues with reservations and especially not with customer service- in fact for every visit they've offered complementary coffee or herbal tea. By far my fave salon! They know what they're doing and my hair has never been better! read more

Came here on a busy saturday to get an updo done for my fiancees sisters wedding. The stylist I had was professional. Showed her exactly what I wanted done via instagram and she copied it exactly. I believe her name was Natalie and she is an intermediate stylist. Price is fair for up do hair styles (60$). She kept my curls in my updo tight so it lasted the entire night. They only use aveda products and most stylist graduate from the aveda school (to my understanding). Never been here for hair cut or colour though. I also used their makeup service to make it a one stop shop before the wedding. I told my make up artist I wanted a neutral look and also mentioned what colour my dress would be. She helped me choose colours I was comfortable with and it ended up looking amazing. My make up also stayed on all night after all the dancing! The full face make up application was 50$ The salon is huge. As I was doing my dolling up, my fiance got a relaxing massage and said it was good.. though there is no RMT at this location. They also serve you cappuccino and coffee as you get pampered. Quite a bonus! Will return if i was ever in the area again. read more

I had an amazing experience. The staff was very friendly. At first I was afraid of how my hair will turn out . But when natasha the color technician did my hair and I saw the results at the end I was so amazed and happy. Never felt so beautiful. Unfortunately I had a horrible experience. Only writing a review because the Salon failed to provide appropriate customer service. Came in for balayage, after the test strand, decided not to go through with it. I was told the blonde will be covered with dye.I also decided to get a haircut. My hair was flat ironed for the haircut. I came home only to find out the whole strand was still blonde. I'm sure the girl who washed my hair and the person who straightened my hair both saw that the blonde and it nothing about it. I called the next day to tell them about what happened and they said oh well, just come in. Not even a sorry ! I came it and asked the girl who washed my hair why she "missed" the huge blonde strand and her response was " I didn't even wash your hair yesterday". When I told her that it was her, she said " not sure why!". Again no sorry ! The stylist I had my appointment with the day before also came by, said " this is weird" and left. After I was done, I talked to the manager and again there was no apologies. I canceled my upcoming appointment and left. After I left the salon, I also noticed that my white shirt was ruined with the dye as they just washed the strand and let me go with my hair wet !!!! Terrible terrible service. read more

Booked a last minute appointment and was surprised they could accommodate me considering how busy they usually are (understandably so!). The salon is extremely clean; as soon as you walk in, there are sanitizer bottles readily available for you to use. All staff members are wearing masks and make sure that you feel safe and comfortable. I showed a photo of the hairstyle I wanted and Giana DELIVERED. I have been searching for a hairstylist who actually listens to what I want for my hair and I think I've finally found her!!! She gave me layers to add movement to my hair and gave it a beautiful and fresh new look. My 9-month old balayage looked nicer than ever after her cut and style. So happy! read more

Terrible experience. The girls at the reception desk are rude and stuck up. They cancelled twice on me and my girl Francesca rushed my hair because she had another client after me. She had no interest in the final result because she never came to see how it came out. For the expensive price I paid it was a waste of money. Been battling with different hairdressers for months and heard great things about the salon but a monkey would have done a better job than simon. I only went to Scruples for Vina (in the spa). Now that she's moved on to better things there is NO reason to give your money to those greedy owners...I've seen them treat their employees like shit right in front of me and other customers. The female owner is extremely rude and unfriendly and tried to make me pay more for my service because she suddenly decided after the fact that my hair was too long... it's too bad that some of the hairstylists are talented and would be better off elsewhere doing their own thing. I've seen her walk in with her kids and demand that the girls do her and their feet...no tip nothing. Talk about taking advantage. The owners don't care about their customers, they only care about money. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because of the talent I have seen come and go. read more

I came here before having my baby. For the price I was charged I was expecting that it'd be done by a licensed hairstylist who'd been experienced for at least 2 years. Nope! She was an apprentice. My haircut turned out ok...as good as an apprentice could do anyway. But charging me $55 for it was wrong because that's the price of an advanced stylist, not one in training. I only wanted to try this place because they're an Aveda concept salon. I've been to a few Aveda concept salons & this one didn't really meet the standards to be honest. I had a pedicure the same day and it was also just okay. Gosh, I really need to find a good Aveda concept salon for getting chemical services done!! read more

I won a gift card from my company value at $125 so I decided to get my hair balayage here at scruples. I called to ask questions about how balayage work and the price of the treatment, the receptionist then booked me an appointment to have a hair consultation first, which I think it's such a good idea. I have partial coloured hair due to a bad hair job from another salon and dark black hair the rest of the way. I wanted my hair to go as light as possible and in the hair care world that's not possible we all know that it takes time. So I then made an appointment to get it done a week later. My hair stylist Christine did an amazing job. Went into detail about what's she's doing, how she'll be doing it and making sure I was always comfortable. For Christine I give her a 5 STAR. I only gave this a 3 because the wash station wasn't stable it kept moving back and forth, while having my hair blow dried the power kept going on and off. The girl at the reception had the stankiest look on her face, I asked her how do I tip my stylish she said "just paid for it here (pointed at the interac machine) and I'll do the rest". I just walked out of there. I will definitely come back for my touch from Christine. But hopefully the employees can learn how to turn their frown upside down when working with customers. read more

I have to thank Jerry and the very nice lady who had done my hair for my prom last year, they were absolutely amazing, talented, and caring thank you thank you thank you so much! I havent gotten the chance to come back because I live in scarborough, but I came mainly because of one of my toronto idols, Honey Queen C and she usually has Jerry style her hair. Anyways, It was an amazing experience overall! I will definitely come back for a cut and style hopefully soon because my job requires me to look fabulous all the time as a greeter.... I have been going to this salon for years now. It's a great environment with some really great people!

I came in asking for a hair cut and for my roots to be blended (sombre) into my blonde hair. I have naturally dark brown hair and was given black hair instead (black is immensely harsh and shouldn't be given unless it was asked for. Now, if i wanted to go back to blonde it would be extremely hard to strip the black pigmentation that was applied). The hair dresser (Nick) must have dropped black dye on my ends where my blonde is or had black transfer from his glove on to my hair. Now the blonde ends of my hair have black splotches all over. I also have one random black streak on the right side of my face and I don't understand why that is there since it's the only streak in my head. I was charged $300 for this service, spent nearly 6 hours at this salon and have never been more unhappy. Save your hair, your money, and your time. Go elsewhere! read more

UPDATE: went for a haircut here after receiving the 20$ off coupon...BIG mistake. The owner cut my hair and literally chopped off my bangs to the point that i looked like a little kid and took me a while to grow back to normal length.. and then he cut my hair so uneven that I had to have someone even it out for me..ironically enough he had a lot to say about how amazing he was at cutting hair while he was giving me the second worst haircut I have ever gotten. As much as I hate to give bad reviews this was not a good experience. I would prefer the spa over the hairstyling services here any day. read more

The customer service in this salon is horrible. I don't think the staff gets along and it is projected onto the customers. I have been in this salon two times simply because the girl who cut my hair did an okay job but then she quit. I went back after one year because I was in the area. The new guy got overwhelmed with my hair because it is thick and long and instead of working with my suggestions he kept on complaining the entire time. I wanted to leave because I did not think he knew what he was doing. In the end my hair looked exactly the same only shorter (I did not want to lose my length), I paid $70+ for just the cut and I was bullied into paying a gratuity when I left. I love this salon! Mainly because my absolute fav color stylist works here hehe. Her name is Meaghan and she's amazing at making my hair a perfect platinum blonde and touching up those roots every time. She actually listens to what I want to do with my hair each time as well as works efficiently and the price is fair. I love her work. The salon is good too though! They keep it clean and well stocked with their products. Only thing that I would change about this salon if I was God would be the location as I feel that it is a bit out of the way from downtown and not that quick to reach by transit. The owner, Albert, arrogant and smug, did not care what I wanted - instead, he told me I needed a change - said it was going to be soft and feminine. So what did I get? An unmitigated disaster. The hair around the nape of my neck does not even measure 1/4" - the sides and top are a little longer but very masculine and unattractive. When he saw me horrified, he laughed - there was ZERO concern that I like what he did - rather he viewed it as me not having any taste AND then invited all kinds of strangers (his customers - I did not know them NOR could I care less about their opinions) to critique my haircut!!!!! This guy does NOT get that he was not there to impress his fan club but to please me as his customer. I have never felt so completely unattractive as I do now - and I have never been one to look in the mirror tons of times during the day - I am not a narcissistic type of person - so believe me when I say that this a salon to AVOID AT ALL COSTS - unless of course you are a masochist and enjoy the pain ... Let's put this into the proper context - let me demonstrate that I am not overreacting ... ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY are equally horrified with my disastrous haircut, and have tried to calm me by reminding me that my hair grows like a weed! I came in with the special trial coupon for four visits, hair styling & wash, manicure, facial spa, and makeup & hair color. I haven't done the make up and colour as it expires by the time to book a 4th appointment, especially since you have to make 4 separate appointments there. I would have done it all in one day but it was not allowed. I got the facial which was ok, they did not do the exfoliating or anything special just a regular mask. The oil got in my hair, she let me know before that there would be some hair touching, I did say ok, but when I left my hair was alllllllllll greasy. Since I was going out right afterwards and did not have time to go home and wash my hair, I asked if I could quickly do it there. They said no one was available. There were many free sinks, I asked if I could just do it myself really quickly and I'd pay. They said I couldn't. In order to avoid me from driving all the way home and back to vaughan, I had to wait until someone was available for a quick wash, which they charged me full price for. I explained that they should tell their customers that the facial will make your hair extremely greasy and they said they told me already. I said that she did not say it was going to be oily just that she would play with my hair and she said "Oh but I did let you know". I explained customers have no idea that they are going to leave the salon looking like they have not washed their hair for 2 weeks. No sympathy, no compassion. I've been to scruples a few times and I found the spa services to be great (the facials particularly), but the hair salon was an awful experience. I purchased a cut and colour package, and the male stylist who cut my hair made an absolute mess of it. He was extremely talkative but didn't listen to a word I was saying. I have long, very thick, curly hair, and he asked me if I ever straighten it. I said rarely, and he replied "I'm gonna straighten it!". I didn't have a problem with that, but unfortunately he CUT my hair to suit someone with straight hair... after I told him I rarely straighten it... I have beautiful curls, why would I? Obviously he had no idea what he was doing - He cut really short layers on top, and left really long ones underneath. Needless to say once I washed my hair and it went back to being curly, it looked a hot mess and was extremely difficult to style. However, this isn't even the worst part. The following week when I came in to get it coloured, the colorist took one look at my hair and asked me if I had had it cut!! She couldn't even tell! When I replied, yes, she paused.. and said.. "Do you like it?. Could you imagine? That's when I really knew that he had done a butcher job. When I said I didn't, she apologized, and said that she would get someone to show me how to style it, because maybe I'm just not using the right products". Which was no excuse for a bad haircut. I will never trust these people with my hair ever again. read more
