Ironically, my laptop actually stopped working a few days after I got my mom's computer back. I knew I had to go to Shannon right away, contacted him through yelp and he messaged me back shortly after. I suspected it was the battery. But Shannon tested it and it was a hard drive issue. Being a college student, I asked how much everything would cost me and specifically for what. Shannon gave me all the details, no problem. He was willing to work with me and told me my options. Most repair shops will give the go ahead on their own and charge you for whatever they 'supposedly' have fixed on your device(s). The great thing about Shannon is - he will tell what is specifically wrong, give you your options, and will update you in everything that he is doing with your device. My macbook pro laptop was fixed pretty fast. I received my laptop and it had all of the programs I originally had except for the adobe creative suites. I forgot to mention it to Shannon and asked if I could get it back on my laptop since it came with it from my graphic design school. I came back into the shop the next day. He put the adobe creative suites back into my laptop, which took about 20-30 minutes. Shannon is probably one of the most genuine owners in the world. I've been having a BSoD issue for a couple days now and I'm usually fairly good on my own to google the basic/intermediate troubleshooting functions. I couldn't pin down the cause of the issue, but then I called SD Bytes. Shannon was able to guide me through steps prior to taking it in to see him. A few suggestions I haven't tried yet.. so after a few hours of messing around with my options. I have had a stable operation with my pc. The short conversation over the phone was just awesome. I dropped my work laptop right before I really needed it to work remotely for Thanksgiving holiday week. I tried calling a couple places to fix it (geek squad being one) but everyone made the repair sound impossible or that it would take weeks! I used to work at Best Buy in the PC center and I often worked with and around Geek Squad members. Though they seemed like cool people, they often did admit to overcharging, a lengthy waiting period (about 1-2 weeks of waiting for parts or laptop), and to some times just denying to help customers who didn't have total tech support and FULL geek squad protection which ranges from $125-$500 membership (cost depends on how much "protection" you want). Spilled a full cup of water on my Microsoft surface keyboard and had trouble signing into my surface. Dropped it off on Monday to Shannon who said he would run a FREE diagnosis. By Tuesday at 11am, my surface's issue turned out to be a setting issue, the keyboard did indeed have water damage. Because Shannon did not need to perform and extraneous labor into fixing the surface he did not overcharge me, make me wait 2 weeks, or tell me the issue cannot be solved (which 6 other companies had told me!) I understand this won't be the case for every customer (luckily no water got into the surface itself). But the efficiency and effort and cost ($0) was 10/10 experience. Thank you Shannon! I had a MacBook that Apple said minimum would have cost me $800 to repair and all they told me was it had water damage which is what I told them going in there. Took it to SD bytes and they did a free diagnostic and did a ton of troubleshooting letting me know my data was good and trying to find out what the water damage affected. All of this for free! My keyboard was sticky, and canned air and using Q-tips and alcohol didn't help. The rest of the device works flawlessly and I love it. He saved us both time and me money by researching and informing me that my MacBook keyboard (essentially the entire top assembly) was covered by Apple via a recall. AMAZING, I wish I could give more than 5 stars. I am a nurse finishing my master program literally 30 days left, and coffee was split on my Mac book at work and of course it stopped working. I took it to the apple store and they just told me I needed to buy a new laptop because it was too old to even be worth fixing. So I was in a bind with a broken computer (black screen with cursor only). I searched Yelp and called a place with great reviews. The switchboard (they have several locations) said to bring it in and they would fix my issue within a day for a reasonable price. I really messed up my Windows 10 computer by installing--then deleting--Linux and its Grub boot loader. I was not able to boot back into Windows. I had spent a week working on the issue before finally giving up and seeking professional help. Shannon spent a couple days researching and trying various techniques to repair the boot record. Although we could not repair the Windows installation and wound up re-installing Windows, Shannon was on task and determined to solve the problem. He worked much longer than either of us had expected and the charge was more than reasonable. I don't fault the shop for not being able to resolve the issue. In my many hours of research and frustrated attempts to resolve it myself, and with the help of a Linux guru friend of mine, I knew it was a long-shot. Shannon is awesome. My 48oz Nalgene bottle opened up in my carryon bag during a flight, and spilled all over my MacBook Pro. It was dripping water, and had water coming out of it everywhere! I called around and Shannon was the only one I found who offered a free diagnostic. I went ahead and had him replace the parts that he found no longer working because of the water. SD Bytes has been a lifesaver for my laptop! I have an ASUS laptop that's been having a lot of breakdowns and problems, so I've used their services quite frequently and I've always had a positive experience. Their service is very quick and efficient! Whenever I've dropped off my laptop, they run a free diagnostic and will call when they find the problem. If servicing is needed or new parts are required for repair, they have always given me a heads up on the total price and if I'd like to move forward with the repair (the flat rate for labor is $89, plus the individualized price of parts/replacements). If it's a quick fix my laptop is usually ready to be picked up within 1-2 days and if it needs repairs it depends on how long it takes to order the new parts but I haven't had to wait for longer than a week! They also have a 30 day warranty for each repair. I've been very grateful for the speedy service and fair pricing. They have COVID precautions with mask requirements and a plexiglass at the front desk. Parking wise, there is a small tight lot you turn into with about 5 parking spots for the whole shared office building, and their office is on the first floor. read more
