Will and his crew are super cool, mellow, SD natives that do a quick and honest job on a Prius. (Side note, get a ride and go eat at Perry's diner while you're waiting for your car to be fixed; get some pancakes and their beans!) My dash lights started furiously dinging at me on the way down to SD from Los Angeles. It really freaked me out. Had to stop at a Toyota dealership in Long Beach and get a little bit of a clue as to what was happening as the service department was closing on a Saturday early evening. Ugh!! The lights turned off again on Sunday while in SD, but I was going to be driving to AZ for my son's spring break to see family and the Grand Canyon. I didn't want to give up on our plans, so I had to find someone to fix my car fast and hopefully without costing me an arm and a leg. I had an appointment at a local Toyota dealership, but wanted to shop around for better pricing. I had emailed SD Hybrids on Sunday night after finding them on yelp. I called on Monday morning about an hour before their scheduled opening time and Will actually answered the phone! I was so stoked!! I explained my drawn out story above and he said it sounded like it was the inverter water pump(?), but he'd have to connect it to the laptop to see what actual codes came up. It was the same code that came up when I changed my auxiliary battery at autozone a month prior. He said it would be $255. He also quoted me $75 to clean the internal cabin filter fan for the hybrid battery, which the Long Beach Toyota guy said I'd need to do and would cost double at the dealership. It didn't look dirty to me from inside the car, but Will said when they opened it up to clean the fan it was in fact actually pretty dirty. He said they could work on the car right then 10:30am and it would be done by 12:30/45pm. What a relief to get out of there in just a little over a couple hours and at $330. The dealership would've been so much more, and the guy in Long Beach wasn't saying anything about the repair I actually needed, only to change the coolant fluid (which I didn't need and would cost $105 at the dealership). I was able to drive to Phoenix, Sedona, the Grand Canyon, back to Phoenix, and back to Los Angeles without any worry... and no lights have come on again since then (almost 2 weeks later). I'm so glad to have found a great and honest repair shop for my 2006 Prius. Woohoo!! Can't wait to have them fix my front shocks and struts to make my ride a little less bumpy. Highly recommended, and would definitely even drive to SD for repairs while hanging with family at Perry's diner again. read more

I would highly recommend this place! I have a 2010 Toyota Prius and the triangle of death came on. I took my car to a person I thought could do the job, but turned out they just messed my car up pretty bad. In a last ditch effort to save my car I brought it here, not only did they stay open later for me to drop off my car but offered to stay later to fix my car as well. When I went to pick up my car after the battery was replaced( reconditioned battery $1450 2 yr warranty), they told me that the person who attempted to fix my car before had removed all the hardware. Which made my car a death trap, well not only did they replace my battery but added in all the hardware for free. They had my car done the next day and the codes have cleared. Hopefully I don't have to return to them but I highly recommend them! read more

At first, I was skeptical because I am a female and I HAVE been messed with by mechanics quite a few times. However, Will was upfront and straightforward from the start and actually gave me pretty good deals! He replaced my spark plugs with the original irradium plug, which is the most suitable one for a Prius and lasts the longest, replaced the idle control valve, and fixed my combination meter, which has been bad off and on for years and many mechanics that don't work with hybrid Priuses have suggested replacing the entire meter, which was both unnecessary and super pricey. He fixed everything and gave me a great deal! Highly recommend. I'm so happy! No more hesitation when driving and I don't have to worry about my combination meter turning on and off again, which was essentially like driving blind! Thank you! Really happy that I found this shop! Our 2005 Prius dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree! Really scary to see red exclamation points warning me of something being wrong with the car. The hybrid battery needed to be replaced and the cost of replacing it at the dealer would have been more than the value of the car. I got a refurbished battery with a two year warranty. My prius battery was shot about a month ago. I reeled it into my local mechanic to see what all of the emergency lights were and lone behold it was the battery. The mechanic didn't feel confident working on my battery and actually advised me not to get it worked on at all because priuses are goners. I wasn't really ready to give up on this car, it was only at 153,000 miles and I loved driving it. I found a few places on the internet that claimed to fix prius batteries but I was a little weary until I found these guys. I called them on the phone and he gave me a rough estimate, which was extremely fair especially with the quick turn around. I was reluctant but it seemed from the pictures that these guys knew exactly how to refurbish these batteries so I took my car in. It only took about an hour and a half to have my car back, fully operational. I waited a while to write this review but my prius has been running fantastic ever since. He even gave a 2 year waranty with a chance to extend if need be. I don't think I'd trust any other place with my hybrid. These guys are a diamond in the rough of so many iffy mechanic shops. Today, just through happenstance, I found probably the best Toyota Prius repair facility in all of Southern California. After quickly finding the shop on Morena Avenue, the owner accessed within what seemed like seconds my 2007 Toyota Prius Hybrid holding some 200,000 plus miles was found to have a faulty inverter water pump (whatever that is) and catalytic converter. Minutes later, no, seconds later, no minutes, no sixty seconds, well very fast, I was given a reasonably priced estimate which in comparison to Mossy Toyota or anywhere else would been 2x that amount. But hold on, it gets better: The owner, Will, assured me the car would be done in a couple of hours or at least before closing, so, I trotted off around 11:00 a.m., down Morena, thinking I had enough time for lunch and Jurassic World: fallen kingdom, but by the time I reached Mission Valley Mall ready to take in a 12:30 showtime my cellphone ranged with the news my Prius ready for pickup. No So, after seeing a boring Kingdom fall in Jurassic​ Park, I picked up my car which ran perfectly minus the glaring warning lite that displayed on my console yesterday. So, in the end, if you have a late model Toyota Prius don't go​ but run to SD HYBRID BATTERY REPAIR on 1155 Morena Blvd for relief. read more

I highly recommend SD Hybrids. My wife and I were having recurring issues w/ her Prius for over two years. Our regular mechanic had always been great but couldn't seem to get the diagnosis right this time. So, I finally called SD Hybrids and spoke to "Will". We had the car towed to Will who diagnosed it as a faulty hybrid battery and got us back on the road same-day. I originally asked for a discount because the price seemed a little higher than other companies I'd seen online, but Will explained that SD Hybrids replaces ALL the hybrid cells in the battery with NEW cells, unlike many other shops. (They don't just replace the cells that appear faulty or use refurbished cells, like our old mechanic may have been doing.) I did more research and because everything he told me seemed to check out, we were willing to pay the slightly higher price for what seems like a superior product. Time will tell just how good the product is, but we got a 3-yr, 36,000 mile warranty which gives us peace of mind, and we were very impressed by the professional and knowledgeable company owner. read more

My wonderful 2008 Prius died. Couldn't lock the doors, wouldn't start, couldn't open trunk, showed I had little gas in tank (that morning I checked level and had almost a half tank). I called quite a few places, all said I should be towed and it could be $1000 +, but they weren't sure. I spoke to Will at Hybrid Battery. He said car most likely wouldn't need a tow, and could be driven to his shop. Since I couldn't drive it, he drove over to USD where my car was parked; he started it up after telling me that it was the auxiliary battery. I followed him to his shop. He had already ordered the battery and thought it would be there in an hour or less and could be installed right away. He was going to Julian to take his son up to see snow, and still had time for me! His helper took out the battery, new one was delivered rather quickly and I had a great working car in less than an hour, at a reasonable price. I now have a Prius mechanic!
