Nature and I have a very difficult relationship. I'm surrounded by it but I never can seem to get much satisfaction from it so I hide away (I sound like someone who got really hurt as a kid, huh). On a test I took, I scored a "0" for being able to appreciate and experience God through nature. Pretty much my confession is: don't take me on any hikes, trails, excursions, camping trips, ski trips, sight seeing into nature, waterfalls, and golf courses. I'll probably reject the offer with a kind but sincere: no. However, here comes disc golfing. Seriously, for the hand-eye coordination-challenged feign, this is NOT the ideal way to spend new years day. My first throw was the laugh of the group--thank you for reinforcing my already-insecure posture towards the sport. But you know what was really surprising? This course is BEAUTIFUL. I said it, beautiful. And it's not like you paid for this beauty too--it's free beauty. Very spacious and free beauty where you really get the stillness of North County and people coming to enjoy what nature can provide. Lets just say a crisp, fresh, and relaxing feel was definitely what came about as my group was venturing through the 18-holes (posts?). With San Diego's "winter" it felt like "fall" and the leaves were changing colors and everything looked so...fall-y. This is totally somewhere I would come to hang out with some friends, throw a few frisbees (also praying I don't look too challenged), and go home knowing it was two-hours well spent. Pros: - FREE. Come, park, play! - Very spread out. A few posts require a little bit of walking but not too much - Artificial creeks, other impressive structures, and a great layout. - One or two posts pass through a small orange-tree garden. Of course we...stole..some. Others demolished a bunch on steel gates. I smell teenagers. - Clear signs, and not too impossible courses. Cons: - Free means lots of people know about this place. Don't be surprised if a few groups are at the same post. Skip it or wait. So, even though I'm unsure if I want to reconcile my mostly-hate relationship with nature, I'm sure others will smirk a little and take notice that this place probably is worthy of some attention. As far as disc golf shops go, this place is fantastic. It's right next to a free disc golf course and carries a buttload of discs. They also sell used discs, snacks and accessories. In addition to the discs, they sell pro grade scooters. I recently purchased a new set of scooter bars, and they were very helpful, giving me a great deal after quoting me wrong over the phone. The only downside I can think of is the cramped space the shop is located in, but I would definitely give them a visit and check out what they have. read more

If you are into, or just starting out with disc golf, this shop is the North County equivalent to a disc golfing Mecca. They have everything you need, friendly, knowledgable staff, and proximity to one of the better disc golf courses in San Diego. Keep in mind I am brand new to this sport, as I played twice on a company trip and was hooked. The informality and fun of this sport is definitely contagious, and SDSF Pro Shop gets that. On the day I visited Matt was behind the counter, apparently not "The Matt" who is the owner, but lets just call him Helpful Matt. He helped me with getting prices for the beginner disc sets there, as well as pointing out some of the more popular brands and models of discs. He also took time to explain the importance of labeling and placing my phone number on my discs, as they also have a lost and found here. The system is great, as golfers return found discs and SDSF holds them for 30 days, and if you come in to find your lost disc, the release fee is just $1! Pretty damn cool. There is also a great selection of used discs, new discs, starter sets, disc carry bags, towels, hats, shirts...you name it, they have it. I bought a Latitude 64 starter set, and grabbed a driver, mid range, and putter disc set for under $30. Not only a great deal, but I earned one stamp on my stamp card! What is a SDSF stamp card you ask?? For every disc purchase you make at SDSF you get a stamp on your card....after your 10th stamp, you earn a FREE disc!! Pretty damn awesome. Also, I met lots of cool people while I was shopping here, very knowledgable and friendly, just like the sport. Thanks again Travis for all the help, once I get my routine and throw down, I will be texting you so you can show this old man the ropes. Super cool shop, drop some cash here to support the local economy and ownership so this shop stays open and vibrant. Called SDSF Pro Shop for my summer camp's needs. They were friendly, attentive, and extremely well versed in the realm of disc golf. Matt immediately responded back to me and knew exactly what we would need. As a novice hoping to establish a quality program for kids, he knew exactly what we needed, and offered his products at an excellent price based on the quality. Upon receiving the baskets, we quickly found that one of them was a defect sent by the manufacturer. In a desperate moment, I contacted the shop and Joshua handled my needs like a true professional. They were able to lend me their personal basket on hand just to make sure my program looked stellar for day one! They made the return process effortless for me, and demonstrated the kind of service rarely seen, but hoped for. We have hundreds of campers enjoying the sport for the first time, and we have SDSF to thank. Thumbs down! We were in town to visit family and check out the skate park. My 11-yr old son was prepared to buy a new scooter with his birthday $. The employee was working on his car in the parking lot... my son was told by the person running the snack shack to go ask him when they would open up, only to be told "sorry, not today." Just went in to cruise the shop and ended up spending about half an hour before and after our game talking shop with Jimbo! He looked at all the discs we were already playing with and gave us the down low on stable discs v unstable discs, best discs for back hand and fore hand throws, etc. He wasn't in a rush to kick us out or push us to make a sale; which we did do. I've been in here several times to buy new and used discs as well as to collect and deliver lost discs. They've always been extremely helpful and have gone above and beyond when I've lost a disc high in a tree. I doubt I'll ever by a disc anywhere else. They're open till 6pm most nights. All of us were novice players, and the staff were extremely helpful and made it fun. While visiting San Diego from out of town my grandson wanted to shorten the stem of the handlebars on his scooter. We were at Escondido skate park and found SDSF Pro shop right there. The specialist working there took care of cutting the stem and then also helped my grandson with another tweak. We were super happy with the attitude and the service.
