Traveling to Carmel and Monterey, the hubbster and I decided to stay the nights in Pacific Grove. Sea Breeze Lodge offered a great 2 day stay from Hotels.com and we couldn't resist the deal.. At check-in, the office attendant seemed very nice and informative about the town. Our room was quite comfortable. Bed was nicely firm but soft, we traveled with our dog, and the place is very pet friendly. They even had prepared a doggie bed, bed sheet and doggie treats for her. It was very welcoming. Perks: Great location. WiFi available. Close to town and ocean (lover's point and 17-mile drive). Scenery is beautiful. Town is classic Victorian. Small continental breakfast of muffins, coffee, juice and oatmeal in the office at morning time. We were thankful. Weirdness: There are Two Sea Breezes across from each other. Hence, there are two addresses, so if you are at 1101, you will have to cross the street to the office to check in or check out. Also, the rooms have water saver toilets - so the water may look low, but they will work. Downsides: Housekeeping is lazy. We were there for two nights, and had the door hanger to please clean up the room - No, they didnt even stop once! Good thing Im a neat freak and kept the room clean on my own. Oh well it is what it is.. Awesome Tip: Do not throw away food in the outdoor trash cans at NIGHT. Raccoons or other animals will tear it up and discard everything outside your door. We threw our food/trash away first thing in the morning when we saw housekeeping. Its a cleaner alternative. OverALL: Not awful. Was nice and comfortable. Price is ok, but could be a better rate for more tourists to stay. We will be back again. read more

I was torn between three and four stars. First, the good. It's very much a heritage kind of place, a collection of gnomic huts and motor court kind of accommodation. It had a lot going for it, twee preciousness within a short walk of some of the most dramatic surf you'll ever see. Four or five deer making the rounds every afternoon through the parking lot. I almost expected to rise every morning and find bluebirds waiting to make the bed. In all, I could picture John Steinbeck at home in one of these, chain-smoking and banging out another opus on his Underwood. Not to mention that it's a great value for the money. Five minor quibbles, all of which I bet could be easily addressed: 1) WiFi. Mind you, I was there for work. In the morning and the day, Internet was just fine. But at night, it slowed to a crawl. I guess all the guests were watching YouTube. So pour some STP in that bad boy, management, so we get a little more horsepower. 2) Hot Water/Cold Water. The shower controls are so finely calibrated that turning the knob a micrometer one way makes the temperature the equivalent of the Bering Strait during January, while a micrometer the other way means you could hold a couple of lobsters while you shower, thereby killing two birds with one stone. So, if California is really serious about water conversation, the Sea Breeze could do its part by not forcing bathers to endlessly fiddle with the running water before they get in. 3) Vending machine broken. Reported this a couple of times during my six-day stay before giving up. 4) Responsiveness. The front light to my hut was burned out. Given how there were two steps on the front of my hut and I was leaving before dawn and coming back after sunset, this was a hazard. I reported the light bulb issue to the front desk. Nothing. Then housekeeping the next day. Nothing. I wasn't asking for anything major. Just a flipping lightbulb. Two minutes of work, even if they walked from the front office. 5) The channel selection. I wasn't there to watch TV. But after a long, hard day of working, it would have been really nice to catch the game on ESPN. Just saying. Overall, lots of charm and a few weird tics. Still a recommended stay. read more

We went from ignoring the bad parts and enjoying the good features of this lodge to having a spirit wrenching let down. We only stayed at sea breeze to have a home while the house we were buying went through escrow. Upon arrival we noticed that the King 'Suite" we had payed for was a regular room with a king size bed and a 'kitchen cart', also know as a push cart with a hot plate and some flatware. My wife and I decided to look past the initial let downs such as the small room size, ancient 20" tv with 18 channels, garbage internet speeds, fleas, ants, rude management, door that would not stay shut until slammed, no english speaking house keeping, washing dishes in the bath tub because the sink was too small to handle the dishes that were provided with the room, no guest laundry, etc. We decided to look past all of this because the long term stay price was cheaper that any other option in town...we payed dearly for that discount. After staying for 30 days (escrow for our house was extended because we used a VA loan) the management pretty much forgot we were living here. about a day after our 30 day stay ended I walked to the front desk to remind them we were still here and rent the room for more time. They let us rent the room for another week at the month rate (which was nice) along with a recommendation that we let them know a bit in advance if we need more time. Two days before the end of our 7-day extension I went in to extend for another week. The jerk at the front desk informed me that I could only extend for 3 days because they had already reserved my room for another guest and there were no more rooms. Due to the actions and practices of the Seabreeze lodge my wife and I slept in our car for 2 nights before convincing the seller of the house we were trying to buy to let us squat for a small fee. I am not a hobo (7 year military, combat vet) and felt more humiliated and disregarded than I ever expected while staying in a location like Pacific Grove(PG). Any self respecting person with a sense of decency and a need for lodging should avoid Seabreeze lodge and stay at Lighthouse Lodge who (we found out later) charges only slightly more for 10 times the quality and service. We have sent our family and friends to other lodges in PG when they visit, but will never ever ever let them stay at Seabreeze. read more

This place is a cute typical Northern CA motel with bungalow style rooms. They look like they've recently been updated, & the bed was comfortable. The rooms had a microwave and mini fridge was great since we were traveling with a toddler. bathroom was large and there is a walk-in closet which was a nice feature to be able to keep our luggage out of the floor-space. the room was big enough to have a pack'n'play set up without any issues. place was clean and comfortable. Friendly Staff to we had a hard time getting the WiFi to work they came right over and got it working for us. we're planning on staying here again and maybe even getting a cottage next time! I also recommend getting the aquarium package with your room we got two day tickets and it saved so much $$,, we called ahead and picked up our tickets before check in. note - After reading some of the other reviews I feel like maybe they've never stayed in a Northern CA Coastal Motel/Inn type place before. One most will not have A/C its the norm in this area. I was pleased that the bathroom had a small window as well as the main room allowing some airflow. I didn't have any issues with the office being across the street its not on a busy street you can drive right over if needed. read more

We really enjoyed our stay here. They are pet friendly and when we called to make sure we got a pet friendly room, we walked into a room equipped with a dog bed, dog treats and a dog blanket. This was a very warm touch. Our room was big enough for the bed but came with everything needed to enjoy a quiet stay, fridge, iron, blow dryer, coffee maker, TV, etc. It was in a nice cozy quiet neighborhood within walking distance to the beach, landscaped very nicely with lots of places for quick doggie breaks. I definitely would stay here again. The breakfast was mainly muffins/ bagels with juice and coffee basic to get you to lunch. The staff was nice and helpful. In our two days staying here, we saw three deers outside our door. read more

Booked at last minute for a quick weekend getaway on June 26. Needed a pet-friendly place because we were taking our fur child. I booked thru Orbitz for $200 and specifically asked if there were any additional pet fees. Orbitz said absolutely not. When I checked in, the hotel didn't have any record of my reservation. I showed them my confirmation, and luckily they had one room that hadn't been rented because it had just recently been renovated. Then they wanted to charge me $25 for a pet fee. I told them that Orbitz had assured me there were no additional charges. You would think they might have dropped the pet fee to make up for not having my reservation, plus we were only staying one night, so $25 seems like a lot for my dog to sleep in his kennel next to the bed on the floor......but NO, they insisted. Room was just OK. Very very small, just big enough for the bed and a couple nightstands. Bathroom was fairly nice with brand new tile in the shower. Room was freshly painted, furniture was pretty shabby. Carpet looked like it hadn't been vacuumed. Nice bedding, comforter and soft sheets, but hard lumpy pillows. Our room was right next to the pool, but the jacuzzi was making strange gurgling noises and looked kinda scary, so we decided to skip it. Not sure if it had internet access, we weren't there long enough to try it. No breakfast or restaurant on site. I generally stay at Marriott Courtyards or Hilton Garden Inn type properties, so I'm not comparing it to the Westin or Ritz Carlton. Not really worth $225, IMO. I would sum it up by saying it certainly has "character", and is kind of a slight step up from a motel, but definitely one step below a Best Western. My husband did not like it. If you want a kitschy kind of funky vibe, and you don't need a lot of frills, this might be your place. In a lovely neighborhood, about 3 blocks from the beach. read more

Mattress is soft and bouncy. When I called to ask for a better one, was told "We only have one type of mattress at the hotel." (Apparently, it's "crappy".) No extra towels for the pool/hot tub. You have to go to the office to get them. Storage space is decent, there are drawers to put things in, in the room and bathroom. TV is 20in CRT from the Dark Ages, which tells you when this place was last updated. Breakfast is subcontinental -- hot water plus whatever they can add to it. Instant oatmeal, coffee... Conclusion: Staff is chipper but owners are cheap. read more

Not a fabulous hotel, but not awful either. For what we paid for our room, I really can't complain. Well, one complaint actually: housekeeping broke my friend's wall charger for her cell phone, but the front desk offered to reimburse her, so that's good. I called to make a last-minute (as in the day before) reservation, and spoke to a very friendly and helpful Morgan, who gave me a great deal. She ended up being the person to check us in and out as well. We had a room with a double bed and a twin bed, one the pool side of the property. The room had a walk-in closet with mini fridge, and a huge bathroom. Sheets and towels seemed clean, the beds were comfy, and though I heard a neighbors dog bark a couple of times, the place was overall pretty quiet. Free breakfast is frozen orange juice concentrate, coffee, and muffins that look like they came from Costco or something similar. I did not eat one so I can't speak to their tastiness. read more

We found a discount rate for here for New Years, so we decided to book. The room was a decent size, clean, and even had a mini-fridge. The beds were relatively comfy and bedbug free. It was kind of annoying having to cross the street to the Sea Breeze Inn and the office there (they're owned by the same people and use just one office) to get breakfast, but we managed. The light in the room was lackluster - no overhead and only two tabletop lamps meant it was kind of dark in the room. The water pressure in the bathroom was anemic, but we managed. The biggest problem we had was when we left out some cookies on top of the fridge overnight. In the morning, we found them crawling with ants! We notified the management and they said they would put down some ant stakes, but really there's nothing they could do immediately. On the whole, it was a decent room, worth the price we paid. It was quiet and we were able to sleep well, and had breakfast in the morning. Pretty much what we could ask for! read more

We were pleasantly surprised when we entered our cottage. It was a small, quaint and elegant room with well put interior design-from carpet, drapes, seats, big comfortable bed and nice frames and all with keen detail in everything. All in the theme of Tuscan Elegance. It had a small 4 pot coffee maker, fridge and microwave. The bathroom was also nice and we were glad there was a hair dryer...since we forgot ours. We arrived a little after 10:00pm... our iPhone GPS kept taking us to the wrong place!!!...and I was very irritated by the time we got there!!!! When we finally called the hotel and told them we were lost....she asked "are you using the iPhone GPS?" And then told us to put 1101 instead of 1100...otherwise we kept returning to another street....not across the street even! A mile away!! Apparently, after some iPhone updates, it has created a glitch on that GPS to that address....I hope it gets fixed! Because after driving for hours...you just want to get some rest. We saw the fire pit and the hot tub but didn't have the pleasure of enjoying them, maybe next time. Yes, after crossing the street to check them out....we saw a family of deer (8) chillin, walking down the street. People all of a sudden were coming out to take pictures. ALL staff we encountered were very nice and hospitable (Office and Housekeeping). The hotel offesr muffins and coffee/tea which we didn't go get only because we had other plans for the morning...but the coffee in our room was great! We stayed Wednesday and Thursday, the price seemed high for the room, being a weeknight with no events in October, Overall we had a very pleasant stay and would definitely recommend this hotel to our family and friends! read more

I was a little disappointed with the Lodge. When I first walked in it smelled of disinfectant and looked run down. Breakfast consisted of pastries, oatmeal and coffee. I did, however, LOVED the location. It was right by Asilomar Beach allowing me quick and easy access to take photos when I felt like driving by. Totally agree w/ Angela T. The place is ok. Don't be fooled by the pictures you see on the website. It is true that each room is slightly different, and it does give the room a bit of a homey feel, but it is small and the bathroom is just ok. The service was great though. They were accommodating with things we needed and it's quiet and quaint. But I wouldn't go back here since the price doesn't match the quality. I'd say the only good quality about it is the bed, the decor in the room and the nice side tables. read more

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day stay at the Seabreeze. We stayed in a cottage with 2 separate rooms, 1 bathroom and a vanity with a sink. The cottage was tiny, but perfect for our needs. Microwave, mini-fridge and coffee maker in the vanity space, and the doors connecting the 2 rooms provided us with privacy, yet the option to keep the space open. I personally liked the layout, it worked well for my husband, my mother, my 2 year old daughter and our 2 large pointer dogs. Our bed was comfortable, but my mother's was badly sunken in, which is part of why I didn't give a 5 star review. The other reasons I didn't give a full 5 star review is because there was no way to turn off the outside light, which kept me up most of the first night, along with a group of young men who partied until midnight on our first night, cursing and hollering loudly. The parking wasn't assigned, and another resident had to park on the street because guests of other residents had taken all the available spots, so that can be annoying. The pool was very closed off, so we didn't swim, but the ocean was walking distance, and that was wonderful. Other that our noisy neighbors, our stay was a cozy and lovely experience, we will definitely return. read more

This was a great place for what I was looking for. It was dog friendly and had a pretty cool outside gas fireplace to sit by during your am coffee or pm relaxation time. I will say I was disspointed with the "hot tub", if you can call it that. Luke warm, filthy water in a tile Inclosure isn't really considered a hot tub, in my opinion. VERY disappointing! Dirty floors, dirty bathroom, OLD fixtures...unlike the Internet photos. The worst part, and there were so many bad parts...the MOLD in the shower! We stayed there because it was 'pet friendly'...but had to ask them to please clean up the many, many piles of pet feces that had been obviously ignored for some time. The heater worked...but only on 'off' or 90 degrees. The mini frig froze our food also. I wish I could give this place less than one star! I like this place... it's kinda in-land... a few streets away from the water in a residential area. Very quiet neighborhood. Charming room we stayed in... I booked a room with a double and twin bed (room 405). Very cozy... beds are separated. Like living in a 2 small room apartment. It has its own outside patio too that you can chill. The lodge has a pool and a hot tub which I didn't get to try! All in all, this place is perfect if you just want a place to stay... I paid $90 a night. This hotel was worth the price I paid for. It is clean and modern. Got a handicapped room right across from the office, even though my bf and I are not handicapped! The bathroom was huge so no complains there! I have two cons about this place- one being the ancient tv and two, I was disgusted by the hot tub. My bf and I were in the hot tub for only 10 minutes, and all of a sudden we were kicked out because the maintenance guy told us he needed to clean the hot tub before the health inspector came.....ummm, I hope I don't get any diseases! read more

I absolutely LOVED this place! It was right outside Monterey which was a quick couple minute drive. The motel was super clean and cute and the staff SO very nice. Very affordable and only a few blocks from the beach. They have a pool and a hot tub which were a nice bonus and overall it was very quiet and intimate. I would go back in a second! read more

Upon arriving, my husband and i entered a 10' x 10' room. It was seriously that small. The only thing you see is the bed. The bathroom looked really dingy. I was afraid to walk barefoot. There were holes in the tiles in the shower. The shower head was so low, my husband had to lean in. I liked how there was a fridge. Parking was easy. I just didn't think the price of the "motel" (this is not a lodge) was fair. I definitely would have spent an extra $30 dollars to stay at a decent hotel. Even a best western! read more

The room was clean and comfortable, and we slept well. Promo photos showed a room that looked nicer than ours, but we didn't expect anything fancy so no big deal. The only issue was a smell coming from the bathroom which we were able to manage by closing or covering drains and keeping the bathroom door closed and the bathroom window open. We told the hotel about this issue at checkout and hopefully they will take care of it!! (Note: I decided to mention the issue and give 3 rather then 4 stars because I see another customer had the same issue in October, so evidently the hotel needs a little encouragement to resolve the smell.) read more

Not the best hotel. I could easily hear the neighbors and the water pipes made a bunch of noise. Parking is not very good either. They have put some money into it, but it's still just a hotel. Our cottage was very nicely decorated, wonderful linens and a cushy bed. Was very comfortable and nice. Glad we were away from the fire pit, Unless you're one of the party group, it may be annoying. It was one of the best experiences that I have ever had. The only negative point is no breakfast being served. There is only coffee, juice, and some muffins. But overall it is a nice place to stay. This place was great and dog friendly!! Rooms are nothing fancy, but perfectly comfortable. They even provided dog beds and treats for my two pups! The room cost was reasonable but the pet fee is a little high ($30/night per pet).The location is great, right in the less busy Pacific Grove but so close to all the fun things to do! We enjoyed our two night stay at Sea Breeze. Checkin was quick and easy. The room is a good size with a table for two, mini fridge and microwave included. The bathroom seems recently redone and clean. The location is excellent, walking distance to the water and an easy drive from all area attractions. The wifi was unreliable, sometimes very slow or cutting out completely. They only provide conditioning shampoo, no conditioner, just fyi. Overall, it was a great stay and great value. Friendly service, great location, incredible value for the price, clean room, and they delivered a doggy care package to our room (bone treats, a bed, sheets, and a dish). We brought most of those things anyway, but she sure enjoyed the treats and it was nice of them to do. Nice outside fire pit. Can open the windows in the room all the way. Fast internet! I did a speedtest.net and it was at 16.40 Mbps download speed. Standard queen on the small side. Thin walls. The TV is in an awkward location (up high and to the left, but it's fine when lying in bed and we didn't use it that much anyway). Low water pressure in the shower (probably common). Easily 4/5 stars overall. Would definitely come here again. read more

Omg! What a find! Great rates and great location! Tasha was so awesome! I called her on Saturday to book the cottage but add a romance package. FOR SUNDAY! She had to call an outside party but within 3 hours she had it all set up...did I mention for a SUNDAY?! and no extra Sunday upcharge. Every single employee was nice and even the other guests were friendly. Only downfall but not worth losing a star over...no AC.... And we were there in 2 pretty hot days. Pretty nice hotel for what I was looking for. I didn't go for shopping I went for the beaches and wildlife which this is right down the street. Room was small and cozy. Walls are paper thin so if there is kids next door crying your being woken up or not getting to sleep. Only down side was it was kinda pricey but it probably was just this time of years rates. Alright. Let's run through a regular day here at the Inn - room 408 just across the street from the welcoming office. You wake up to a free breakfast! Great! But. The free breakfast isn't actually breakfast. Unless your breakfast consists of muffins and oatmeal packets. And nothing else. Ever. So you go ahead and shove some of that in your mouth and move on. Shower time! It took 10 real-time minutes for the water to become warm. Not hot. Warm. So again, you decide to push through it and carry on your now-struggling-merry way. You finish getting ready. There is plenty of floor space to get dressed and move about; no complaints there. You head out to the city. The location is nice! A brisk walk to Lover's Point and hitting a couple of little cafes along the way. (Lighthouse Cafe is a good choice.) Etc etc... back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. You remember that drink you put in the fridge? It's still warm. Because the outlets are so old that the plug falls out of the wall by the "overwhelming" force of gravity. You plug it back in, get ready, and head out to dinner (Passionfish is really nice, within walking distance, and you get a discount for staying at this hotel - a definite plus). When you get back you collapse in bed and get ready to pass out. The beds are sufficient and the sheets are clean. But if you're the kind of person who likes silence when sleeping, be ready to crowd under the covers and leave the room's 5-foot-tall space heather turned off. The thing clicks and bangs when turning on and off. Granted it's not a really gigantic noise, but it's enough to pull you out of that "almost asleep" phase. But it does work and puts out good heat, so it at least gets the job done. To get to the gist of it - I wouldn't go here again unless I was just going there to sleep and quite literally nothing else. It's affordable and it's a bed. If that's what you're looking for, then have at it. If you're looking to have a full, well-rounded trip with a nice place to stay... pay the extra $70 and go somewhere better. Trust me. It's worth it. read more

I stayed here once before for a business trip. This is a simple, "no frills" motel. If you are looking for fancy accommodations, expect to pay for it! I think it is a little ridiculous to complain about the tv. I don't stay in motels or hotels to watch the tv. Especially in Monterey County! The rooms I had for both my stays were very clean and comfortable. I just needed a place to sleep while visiting the area and this was sufficient. Granted, the breakfast is nothing special, but again that is not why I was there. During my stays I skipped the breakfast and checked out the local eateries. This place is reasonably priced and I will go back again. It isn't the best place I've ever stayed at, but it is definitely not the worse. My husband and I booked this place online for their early bird special. We had wanted to come up to Monterrey and visit the aquarium and fisherman's wharf area. We got a great deal on the room at $58/night. When we arrived, we checked into our room and thought the room was pretty decent size and was nice and clean. The maids were cleaning the room next door and we can clearly hear them from the thin walls so we knew if we had stayed in that room, we would be miserable. We went to the front desk and ask them if we can upgrade to a better room since we saved money from booking online, we thought we could splurge a little. The front desk guy was very friendly and helpful. He gave us keys to two other rooms to check out. The rooms ended up being their own private cottages. We chose the cottage furthest away from the front office. The cottage was a nice size and very private since they don't share any common walls. The front desk guy ended up comping us for the upgrade. Score!!! We were very thankful for that because it made our stay there very enjoyable. It was quiet and comfortable. The cleaning service came in every single day to clean up and make our beds. The location of the Inn is a little further from Monterrey but it was located in a nice quaint town of Pacific Grove. We enjoyed walking all over the place down there. Would highly recommend this place, only if you book a cottage. I know the other suites probably aren't as nice but if you pay a little more, you'll get a much nicer room. read more

upon reading Venissa's review,I noticed,that we just stayed in the same room as they did! We were celebrating our 20th anniversary again in one of our most favorite places in the world.we come to the Monterey,Pac.Grove,Carmel area at least 4 times a year.This time,we opted not to go with what we already know,which is Carmel River Inn,because we have a favorite cottage there & love seeing Tina's smiling face at the front desk. I decided to give Hotwire a gander & althought I was a little apprehensive,when booking with them,because you dont know until you reserve & pay for a reservation,where it is you are actually going! they gave us a fantastic rate for a "2 star" lodge,and I wondered if I was going to hate it.I took the chance anyway & was very surprised & pleased to have found the Seabreeze lodge.Also we met Shelena who pleasantly greeted us & pointed out lots of places to go eat & they offered 10% discounts at many places.She also went out of her way to accomodate us with her own personal dvd player as we assumed we would have in our room but didnt. We also met her little dog "Lincoln" who got along great with our little "Monster" .yes that is my dogs name! All in all,we spent 1/2 of what we would normally have spent opting to not have a kitchen.Usually I prefer to find places that I can cook at,but my husband always complains that I 'bring too much stuff'.I will definitely recommend the Seabreeze to anyone.It was quiet even being right next to the pool.the first nite some people were in the hottub,but there were no noise problems.The room was far better than I'd expected,I mentioned to Hotwire,they should bring up their star rating.,also if I'd really thought about it,how could any place in Pacific Grove be bad? Super clean cozy place to stay. Great location. East parking. Will definitely be back again

Love the location near the shore in a quite neighborhood. Stayed in one of the stand alone cottages. Older and small ( like most things in the area), but very clean and neat. Good coffee. Reasonably priced considering it's a within a 1/4 mile of some $15 million+ houses:) I'll be back. read more
