Since my mom has passed, we have decided to pass on the tradition and come here with our own little family. We came for three nights for our son's 5th birthday trip and we had an amazing time. We had a spacious cabin (#13) with everything we needed and the beds were very comfy. The ONLY small issue we'd address is that the oven in our place was maybe a bit outdated and I only bring this up because when we used just the oven, the entire stove/unit became so hot to touch that you have to wear a mitt to open it as the door handle, dials, everything become very hot. Other than that, everything was PERFECT and we absolutely love our stay here! It is so quiet and peaceful, everyone is very friendly, and there's so much room to play/relax and enjoy yourself. Also right across from the beach and Asilomar conference grounds. I also want to give a BIG shout out to the girl who works the front desk, and her adorable Pomeranian, O'rion! They were seriously one of the best parts of staying here. Couldn't have been a cooler person to talk to, so down to earth and welcoming, very informative, and we hope to see them again when we return! Kevin, Linda, Kirsten and the seriously adorable Sybil, were all so kind and warm and we hope to visit again soon! :) Video is of our very spacious back patio that went out into the large lawn area.

I waited and waited, and after several minutes of waiting I dinged the bell. Nothing. I finally called the hotel and let it ring for a while, no one answered or came to the lobby where the phone was ringing to answer. I waited longer and tapped the bell again, so I stood there and continued waiting. A young woman finally came to the desk, she was nice enough throughout our interaction, but didn't apologize for leaving me waiting or even ask how long I'd been standing there. This next part is important to keep in mind if you have mobility issues, I asked for a room without stairs, and she said there weren't any. When I booked, the listing said accessible, it wasn't. She said this hotel were converted condos and they all have stairs. We had to go up to two sets of stairs, between my arthritis and the weight of my bags, getting luggage up to the room was a challenge. During check-in, the front desk clerk also instructed me to park right next to the lobby in the handicap spot. She said "it's okay for you to park there, we just have the handicap sign up because we have to, but nobody ever comes to check it." I informed her that's where I was already parked because I have a handicap placard. But her instructing me to park in the only visible accessible spot not knowing I even had a placard really upset me, those spots need to be reserved for those that require them. We were in room 115, which is right above the lobby where breakfast takes place. You can hear the automatic door opening and closing every single time someone entered or exited the lobby making it impossible to sleep in. The room was super clean, I liked that we had two separate bedrooms, and the wet bar with a microwave and fridge were good too. The room also has no AC, just a heater. We had to open the windows to air the room out and there were no locks at the tops of the windows or sliding door to keep it securely cracked while sleeping, so the room was very stuffy. The bed is also super firm and the pillows are a weird small square shape. We did check-out the breakfast and the area was super clean, but their selection wasn't great. Overall our stay was good, but I probably wouldn't pick this property again when there are better options at a similar price point nearby.

We stayed 4 nights for about $1,000 total including daily breakfast and yummy late night banana chocolate chip muffins. For this area and an Ocean View room (The lovely Bay View), that price point is incredible. In full transparency, the ocean view from the Bay View room is over the rooves of the neighbors across the street but it was still lovely. And the decor of the room, Inn and lovely garden, service and daily breakfasts were all amazing. And speaking of the breakfasts, they were plentiful and absolutely delicious. We had a wonderful omelette one morning, stuffed with fresh ingredients and a side of asparagus and fruite, delicious French Toast another and a stuffed crepe the other. (The other morning we headed to our absolute favorite place on the planet for an early lunch....feel free to reach out to find out where!) I also had a fantastic 4 mile run from the Inn as it is so close to the water and they have a wonderful walking/running trail right there. The location is pure magic and SO much more affordable than other places. TIKI DAVE highly highly recommends The Old St. Angela Inn for a lovely and reasonable stay ONE BLOCK from the ocean. We had breakfast every morning and it was hot, fresh and provided variety each day. We stayed in Room 21, La Porte. It included a private side entrance outside the main house which was great. I think our room location was a little noisier than other rooms due to the entrance area outside the room being used by staff and some other guests. Located in beautiful Pacific Grove, this inn is approximately 30 steps from the beach. You're surrounded by cafés, dining, coffee, and unstoppable ocean views. It's within walking distance of quaint downtown Pacific Grove and close to Cannery Row and the famous 17-Mile Drive. You can explore the shops, meet the wonderful locals, admire some outstanding homes, and enjoy fantastic people-watching. The staff is outstanding, friendly, welcoming, and genuinely understands hospitality. That is one of the main reasons I continue returning during Car Week. The rooms are a little older, although some have been updated, and the beds could use an upgrade. My recommendation is to ask for Room 301. The bed is much more comfortable, and the room has a balcony overlooking the beach and ocean. It's the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee, watch the people below, and maybe even have a seagull stop by to visit! If you're looking for a charming, reasonably priced inn rather than a large luxury hotel, Lovers Point Inn is the spot. You simply cannot beat the location, views, value, or hospitality. I'll definitely keep coming back!

The heater in our room also produced a smoke smell when turned on. The air quality made it difficult to sleep, and we ended up opening the windows to try to air out the room. That helped with the smell but left us dealing with cold temperatures and outside noise throughout the night. During our stay, both our friends and I became sick, which raised concerns about the air quality and overall condition of the rooms. What was most disappointing was the lack of customer service. We called multiple times and left messages requesting that a manager contact us regarding the issues and a partial refund. We were told the manager was in a meeting until 1 PM and would call us back. We never received a return call. We followed up with additional phone calls, left more messages, and even sent an email. None of our attempts received a response. The location is beautiful and is the property's strongest feature. Unfortunately, the room conditions and lack of management response overshadowed the experience. For the price we paid, the accommodations felt more comparable to a Motel 6 than a coastal hotel charging premium rates. Problems happen at every hotel. What matters is how management responds. In our case, despite multiple calls, messages, and emails, no one ever followed up. That level of customer service is unacceptable. Based on our experience, I would not stay here again.

Let me recite the ways. - It took around 40 minutes for someone to arrive at the front desk to check us in when we arrived in the early afternoon despite several staff sitting a few feet away eating, face down watching videos on their phones. - The rooms hadn't been renovated since the 60s or 70s. And we were staying in a cabin which was supposedly an upgrade. Awful. - The door of our room wouldn't lock and when I asked the afternoon front desk guy to fix it before I had to go out, leaving my two tween kids in the room, he said it would have to wait until the next day when someone else could do it. What?! Whatever implied quality "A Kirkwood Collection" is intended to convey is clearly a bunch of BS. It's a scarlet letter on any property as far as I am concerned. What it actually means is crap service and shitty unsafe rooms. The only way this place has 4.5 stars is if people are paying (or were paid) $50 a night (95% less than during Car Week) or they are insincere reviews. AVOID AT ANY COST.

Beautiful skylights in both bathrooms that let in lots of natural light. The front bedroom has a cozy fireplace. The windows appear to be newer, open easily, and have screens. Overall, this room felt comfortable, well maintained, and updated. Room 30 - Average This is a single-room accommodation in the Victorian house at the rear of the property. One bathroom with the sink/shower area separated from the toilet/tub by a half wall. It wasn't nearly as nice as Room 18. There was a slight "old house" odor--not overwhelming, but noticeable. Parking is about 25' away. There are about 5 steps to go up to the landing. The windows do not open and do not have screens. Overall Property The property made a very good impression overall. Clean rooms and fresh, comfortable linens. General cleanliness was excellent. Maintenance was good (I'd rate it about 8.5/10--mostly minor paint touch-ups and cosmetic items). Parking directly outside the room was a huge convenience. Ice machine was nearby and worked well. The pool is conveniently located across from the rooms. The grounds are attractive and well kept. Every front desk employee we encountered was friendly and welcoming. I specifically chose Sunset Inn over the Bide-a-Wee Inn next door because Sunset Inn advertised that their "cottages" (which are not cottages at all - they are just motel rooms) each come with a patio or balcony. I spent $100 more specifically to have this feature, only to arrive and find out that their version of a "patio" is just 2 chairs on the stoop/sidewalk next to the front door, facing the driveway/parking lot or the unit directly across from you. Zero view, zero privacy, zero tranquility, in a tiny area of about 10 square feet. That it NOT a patio, and I feel scammed. The room itself was clean, but not comfortable. The bed has a cheap, springy mattress; cheap, uncomfortable pillows; and no air conditioning or way to control the temperature in the room (there is a thermostat on the wall, but completely disabled. There is a fake fireplace, but no discernable way to cool down the room, which was quite muggy and stuffy.) The walls are thin and you can hear noise from the parking lot comin through the windows, and the coffee creamer is so old that it had caked together into a wafer instead of power. The breakfast area in the morning was cramped and disappointing. There is no suitable spread to put on the stale bread or muffins on offer (no cream cheese... not even butter! Just nasty margarine, which tells you how cheap Sunset Inn is, and how much they cut corners. At the Bide-a-Wee next door, they had butter, cream cheese, and even had hardboiled eggs for protein - and it costs half the price of this place!) And then there's the poor customer service. This expensive 2-star motel won't let you cancel (even with more than 24 hours notice) after booking a cancellable room. My wife fell ill and could no longer come down with me, so now I am stuck with a 3 hour drive and a $290 bill (extremely high for a one night stay!) all just to stay by myself at this motel since I don't want the money to go to waste. We called about 30 hours before our reservation (early morning on February 14 for a stay the night of the 15th), and they would not allow us to cancel. Instead, he offered credit for a stay, but only on a weeknight during off-season (November, December, or January)... my wife and I can't take time off to do a weeknight stay, and it's preposterous that this is the only credit that would be offered when I spent nearly $300 PER NIGHT at this sub-par establishment. Pacific Grove is a place we have frequented many times over the years, and we were hoping to find a new establishment to make our "home" whenever we visit, but it definitely won't be Sunset Inn. It's one of the 2 worst lodging experiences I've ever encountered in 20 years of coming to the area.
