Do NOT stay here. Completely ruined our time at Car Week. I am incredibly disappointed by our experience at the Rosedale Inn. We arrived with a confirmed reservation, as well as a separately confirmed early check-in. Despite having all of our guarantees in place, the front desk informed us upon arrival that they had no room available for us. While overbooking is an inconvenience, the staff's reaction made the situation significantly worse. When we asked for assistance or a solution to the problem they created, the staff actually laughed at us and flat-out refused to help. Leaving guests stranded is bad enough, but mocking them when they ask for help is entirely unprofessional. I highly recommend booking elsewhere. read more

We booked a room at the Rosedale Inn a month in advance because we knew it would be a busy weekend in Pacific Grove, with several events taking place in the area. We arrived about 30 minutes before the scheduled check-in time to see if we could at least leave our luggage until the room was ready. A young man at the front desk told us that he could not find our reservation and that the hotel did not have a room for us because, according to him, Booking.com had overbooked the property. What was particularly disturbing was his attitude toward the situation. He told us that it was essentially our problem because we had reserved a room for under $400 when, according to him, the same room should have been priced at $1,000 during the busy season. There was no apology or expression of concern. Instead, he laughed several times while we were trying to figure out where we would stay. I eventually had to tell him that the situation was not funny. He completely dismissed my comment and went into the back office. We immediately contacted Booking.com, and their representative confirmed that our reservation was guaranteed. The Booking.com representative attempted to contact the Rosedale Inn, but no one answered the phone, even though the employee we had spoken with was apparently in the back office. Ultimately, following the instructions provided by Booking.com, we found an alternative hotel. Unfortunately, the replacement accommodation cost approximately twice of what we had originally booked at the Rosedale Inn. The greater issue was the unnecessary stress caused by the hotel's handling of the situation. After traveling to Monterey, we spent approximately two hours worrying about if we would have a place to sleep that night. I found the employee's response to be extremely unprofessional and rude. His dismissive attitude and repeated laughter while we were dealing with a very stressful situation were completely inappropriate. In all my years of traveling, I have never experienced such an unpleasant interaction with hotel staff. read more

"Luxury Suites" on their sign is a joke! I just stayed at Rosedale Inn for 2 nights and the place is run down to say the least! Wallpaper pealing off the walls. The coffee pot leaked all over the counter top, there was a hole in the bathroom door and a piece of blue tape in the bathroom, maybe holding up the baseboard molding? Not sure. On my second night I had to be moved to another room because the door lock broke on the first room. Same thing, pealing wallpaper, run down and again, the coffee pot did not work. The kindest words I have are shabby, moldy and run down. We were duped into booking here with the false-positive reviews on multiple sites. We should have read the most recent reviews instead of just looking at the average total ratings on the review sites. We had to immediately request a room change the moment we walked into the room given to us (#2) due to the overpowering smell of mildew and they moved us next door to #1. The smell was not nearly as bad, however the wall paper was falling off every corner, the bathroom was gross, with tile caving in on the floor base board and the open cracks in the tub seal, where the moldy caulk was. (That must have been how the slug got into the bathroom, on the floor towel in the photo). There were also a couple of wandering ants on the bed. It seemed everywhere you looked there was something in need of repair or replacement. We should have immediately requested a refund and left, but were too tired from the drive at that point. The bed was as old as the very dated furnishings and not comfortable. It's too bad review sites won't average by the most recent year or two. Stay clear of this place! read more

It's a dump. We came for a 2 night stay but only stayed 1 night. It was just so depressing. We decided it was just better to drive the four hours home than stay another night. The best thing I can say is that it wasn't visibly dirty. Just old and not well maintained. The kitchenette had no dishes or flatware other than two coffee cups and two glasses. The couch was so worn that you hit the wood frame, the cushions don't support at all. The carpet looked disgusting and just everything was so sad and worn out. The back little seating area would've been pleasant if it had been cleaned recently. Even the guy checking us in had a two small button-down shirt with the button missing at his belly. We did stay here before and it wasn't this bad. I think the place is in a death spiral because you can't charge enough to get the money to fix it up. read more

I paid $470 for a night here and it was awful. The carpet was coming up, AC didn't work, wires were sticking out of the wall, and the bathroom was falling apart (peeling wallpaper, loose tiles, chipped tub). The room smelled bad, the fireplace didn't work, and there weren't even outlets by the bed to charge our phones. Out back, the fence was broken and there were dirty towels just left on a table. Every time my hubby and I come to Pacific Grove we stay at the Rosedale Inn. Such a nice place to stay after exploring the area. I especially love the jacuzzi tub! I am a light sleeper and wake up often throughout the night, so I appreciate the fact that I can go to the other room to read or watch tv without waking my husband. If you're reading this, you've probably already read other very mixed reviews on the Rosedale Inn that advertises as "luxury suites". I was very hesitant to book this inn, as the reviews ranged from "Great, love this place!" to "Never staying here again". Here is an honest, detailed review of our stay in room 105. We had our 1 year old with us, so having a suite with a bedroom and small kitchen was a priority. So we will start with the pros. This is a true suite with a bedroom, and a kitchenette area. There was so much space, it was great for our baby to crawl around, and sleep in a separate room. The location of this inn also can't be beat. The 10 minute peaceful walk through Asilomar to the beach was wonderful. The cons. This suite is quite rundown and there is evidence of major neglect. The couch was very broken, which as a result we couldn't sit on. The curtain in the bedroom is also broken and you can't close it all the way. Peeling wallpaper, rusty everything, stains on the walls, etc. While the room still felt clean, it was very obvious it needs a good update. The heater worked but something was off with it. We had set it to 64, however the baby monitor was reading that the room was 72 degrees. Just a few nitty gritty things: Their website advertises that a crib is available for a fee. They actually do not have cribs available at all. Also the room is advertised online as suite with a kitchenette, however there are signs in the room that say no cooking is allowed. I almost brought the griddle to use, I'm glad I didn't though because I wouldn't have been able to use it. I will say though that they provide a few dishes and silverware that came in handy. A drying rack would have been nice. We washed the dishes and just used a small bath towel to dry them with. Lastly, we noticed that there was only one smoke detector, and that was in the living room area, there was no smoke detector in the bedroom. I would like to finish with this isn't a review just to complain, it is just possible recommendations for how the owner of this inn could improve their suites. It was not luxury in any way, however I would say it was cozy. I'm not mad, I kind of expected this experience based on other reviews. I think if you have kids, just looking for a place to stay near the ocean, don't care about the state of the room and have low expectations, this would be a good option. I feel that the room price was fair, based on location alone. At the end of the day, we had a great weekend and none of the cons really hindered our stay... except the couch. We had to switch rooms because the bed was broken and the second room was dirty, there was hair and mildew in the room, the fireplace was broke. There was a dirty old sponge to wash your dishes. Lots of maintenance that needs to be done. Carpeting is loose and buckled in spots. Additionally it is very dirty. I recently stayed for three nights and was not asked about the need for any maid service. Don't know what their policy is as they did not disclose it. It has been a couple of years since I last stayed here. In the time since I last stayed the place has really gone down hill. I arrived about an hour and a half before their 4:00 PM check in. They charged me an additional $25.00. This was on a day that appeared to a a 20% or less occupancy. I feel that allowing me to check in a little early would certainly not have hurt them. read more

Shorter version: We booked this place for 3-nights on Expedia and arrived to check-in in the evening. We picked up the keys and went to the assigned room, and it smelt strongly moldy and was covered with black mold as photos showed. Moldy room is considered not habitable under California's Health & Safety Code 17920.3 for a reason. We tried to reach out to the office to switch the room. Night bell did not work, and the posted phone number for emergency turned out to be their rude handyman's. He did not help by not only saying insulting things but also not sharing the contact phone number of the office personnel. He shared the phone number that rang the phone inside their empty office. That room was not habitable, so we ended up returning the keys by placing them back on the office door as they were before and booked another place. We reached out to Expedia for a refund (still in progress as Expedia failed to reach the office as well). ------------------------------------------ Longer version: We arrived at around 8:40pm and discovered upon entering the unit (108) that the air was very moldy. Soon we found the black molds everywhere next to the bed! Clearly they had a roof water leak issue unaddressed for a long time. Night bell did not seem to call anyone, and when we could reach someone through the emergency phone number, we asked for a room switch. He said there was no way. I asked how, and he started insulting me by saying that I needed the brain to arrive earlier and check the room before their office closing time or tell the office about my mold allergy before the office closes at 8pm! I told him that mold is more about health hazard issue than allergy (it is dangerous to everyone) that he should have addressed the mold problem as a handyman of this place. They should not rent the room with black molds as such condition is regarded as substandard under California Health and Safety Code. Then he sounded like a jerk by saying, "oh, do you want me to take down the walls now? I cannot do that as I am home". Anyways, for anyone who is interested in staying in this inn, know that their standards according to their handyman are that mold is okay as long as someone has a mold allergy (in that case, make sure to call the office and confirm with the person that the assigned room does not have mold DURING their office hours - sorry I was just using that sarcastic tone of the handyman I talked with), and their night bell is more like a evening bell as no one in charge of the room check-in's is available at the office after 8pm! The phone number I got from that handyman was to no use as it just rang the phone inside their empty office just like their night bell did. And the information page that was in the envelope that had the keys inside showed that the office closing time is 9pm, so basically we got there before their official closing time (8:40pm), but someone just went home earlier than that. We retuned the keys back on the same spot where we picked them up from after the call and booked another place for sleeping. Let's see how they handle the refund. read more

What a dump. I can't believe the hotel has the nerve to say they are fixing the place, when they have had terrible reviews for years. We stayed recently and the room should have been $10 with a cash refund of $200. Our room was dangerous with rusty nails, torn off hand rails, garbage everywhere. The owners don't care and you shouldn't spend your money here. The place should be closed for a year and totally gutted. The city of Pacific Grove, please inspect this place. read more

This place could use some TLC. Most of the issues are cosmetic like peeling wallpaper and ripped curtains. But my bathroom was clean and the bed was comfortable which are the main things I care about when staying somewhere. I also found the fireplace to be comforting and cozy. And they had nice amenities like a mini fridge and microwave. The location is a short walk to the beach. And plenty of parking was available. I didn't interact with any of the employees, but I appreciate that they were able to accommodate my late check in. If I were visiting Monterey again, I would consider staying here. Totally not the advertised description of this Pacific Grove Inn! The Rosedale Inn is a run down, sub-par establishment. We had booked our 3-night stay in the "Premium Two Queen Suite" that was stated to be an Executive Queen Room. There wasn't anything PREMIUM or EXECUTIVE about this place! Stayed the 1st night, paid for the 2nd night just to have enough time that morning to tell them we were checking out, ask politely for credit for the 3rd night (Friday night @ $355) and get packed up to get out of there! Everything was old, dated and/or worn out starting with the curtains sagging & dragging and when you opened them to look out, you saw the run down grounds area where even a very dead pine tree lay on the ground half cut and disposed of and maybe the rest disposed slowly on every garbage day??? The wallpaper in places was coming lose, couch and chair was motel modern 1960's and 3 bar stools, only 2 matched, the 3rd was more like a utility stool. Small microwave turntable wouldn't stay on its track so you could only use for less than 30 seconds before it started to hit the door and small refrigerator was missing its shelf. The Spa-Tub finish was worn out so even though it was clean it looked dirty. The bath towels and bath mat towel were clean but thin and worn. Beds were just OK. Bedding was clean. The only good thing about this whole experience was when I called to tell them we were checking out early, the nice woman asked me if it was because of the room. I told her yes, told her it was sub par and she said she understood. I then asked if it was possible to get the 3rd night credited back to us as they had a 3 day cancellation policy. She agreed and gave us until noon to check out. We moved to the Best Western Plus in Monterey for Thursday & Friday night. Dates we stayed were between May 10-12. So when we arrived we checked in and were given keys to our room. We went to our room and we couldn't even go inside because housekeeping was still cleaning our room! We had to wait about 20 minutes before they were done to finally get in there. Initially when we came into the room we loved how spacious the room was and had a rugged look but when we looked close enough we noticed a lot of disrepair in this specific room. If you see the pics we show and describe the issues. I will be very brief: we decided to give this room a one star because the disrepair was so bad, we know we are not staying at this hotel ever again. While we were glad it had the amenities it did, the disrepair and condition of the functionality of the room turned us off. Examples: low shower pressure, shower handle coming off, right side bed stand lamp switch does not turn the light off. Sink in bathroom faucet base veer loose. Bed sagged on the left side of the bed pretty bad. I give this place a plus for amenities but just can't stand to see so much in disrepair. read more

Carpet falling apart, wallpaper unglued and completely coming off walls, door hinges rusty, gaps in walls, no furnishings in outside sitting area, broken decks and sighting, knobs broken. Garbage from last guest left. I was shocked. Had too stay somewhere else praying I get money back but most likely this kk da place will not. This is a lovely place for the price near the Asilomar Conference Center where you can enter and walk around the grounds checking out the Julia Morgan designed buildings. There were nice amenities in the room, plenty of coffee, paper towels, jacuzzi tub . I finally felt I was receiving value for my money. Rooms are large with lots of windows and gas fireplace. My wife and I recently stayed here and had a great stay. We stayed in the cottage and it was a great space. We were apparently the first guests there since having had it completely redone. It has a queen bed, fireplace, full bathroom, and kitchenette w/ sink, stove, mini-fridge, electric kettle, coffee pot and microwave forthcoming. It also had AC (w/ remote) and a small table--it's an outdoor table that doesn't really match the décor but it serves its purpose. The owner, Paul, was very personable and attentive. Breakfast was also provided: yogurt and fruit and French toast with coffee and OJ. The grounds and views are great--you're isolated but have a lot of green space with plenty of wildlife mostly of deer and rabbits. The town itself is pretty sparse--there's a Dollar General for basics (I didn't see a grocery store), a few restaurants, antique shops, and more. It's a cute little town but for the most part things close at 9:00pm. Endless Caverns is right next door. They are currently updating their website so I booked by telephone. Because of the downtime in the tech systems, payment had to be made by cash or check upon arrival. My wife and I already talked about returning in the fall to make use of the fire place. read more

When we checked in and saw our room we asked for another room because the condition was so bad in this room, we were told the owner can call us in the morning??? what ? how does that help? The next morning when we were checking out my niece asked for a refund or discount and was told that we were offered another room. She lied right to our face, we were NOT offered anything. Super affordable, very clean and we really appreciated all of the amenities -- comfy bed, fireplace, jacuzzi tub, awesome shower, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker and they even provide dinnerware should you want to enjoy a meal on real dishes (it's the little things :)). & absolute cherry on top for us that Asilomar state beach is literally a 5 minute walk from our room; we had never been and it's BEAUTIFUL! Glancing at the other reviews, if you're judging the place from the outside, then yes, maybe there is something to be desired aesthetically; for us, this doesn't matter! And our room was very clean & put together, nothing like some of the other photos posted. Terrible. One of the worst motel experiences we've ever had. Beds were so uncomfortable that we left after 2 nights instead of the 3 we booked. We had 2 rooms and they were both horrible. Wallpaper peeling off walls, rust in the bathrooms, tubs disgusting and not fitted into space correctly. Big gaps. Very uncomfortable sofa. Couldn't sit for long. Just felt like springs. Heater in one of the rooms not working. Told front desk. They supposedly fixed but only worked for a short time then failed again. Carpet torn up and dirty. Screens not fitting right on windows or missing pieces and bugs getting in. They call themselves luxury suites. They are not. We will never stay here again and will warn others to stay away. We are giving the rating of one because nothing lower was available. Printed directions about towels suggested hanging to dry and reusing or placing on floor for maid service, see photo. No place to hang the very small bath towels to dry, left them on the floor per instructions only to return for 2nd night stay to find wet towels still on the bath floor. Office said they did not provide maid service, hanging tag on the door said otherwise, see photo. No notice on the web site or when we checked in regarding no maid service, several guest rooms next to us were seen trying to get clean dry towels as well. Alarm clock/radio broken, no electric wall outlets available around bed, all used by hotel. Who does not travel with rechargeable devices today? Watch, Phone, iPad, laptop, c-pap. You get what you pay for. I got a room here on a Sunday night in August for about $130 out the door. That's a pretty good deal considering the location. It's not beachfront but it's about a half mile walk to Asilomar Beach which is beautiful. It can definitely use an upgrade. The Jacuzzi tub in the room was a little sketchy. I didn't use it but the shower was nice and hot. The bathroom sink water did not get hot. There was a gas fireplace in the room that I didn't use. The room is also pretty dark. You can't really see outside when you open the windows. The room doesn't get bright. The room is pretty big. It's really just a place to crash. I didn't really care for Pacific Grove. Even though the motel staff were really nice, the staff at the local businesses were pretty rude. They seem bothered when you asked them a question. I don't plan on returning there. Wow, where do I start? My beautiful wife and I came too the Monterey area too celebrate our anniversary. So everything is lifting (Covid), which means many hotels/resorts were sold out for The Weekend. So I expanded my search by a few miles, the Rosedale in came up.. we got the large Queen suite, the best way I can describe this place is a large 1 bedroom apartment/cottage/suite type room. The huge tub was amazing! The room was very clean & inviting! We were especially surprised on how huge the room is! We will be back next month for sure read more

My sister and I have been staying at the Rosedale Inn for many years. You couldn't ask for a better people. They are kind and accommodating. We appreciate their friendliness and the fact they work with you if arrangements need to to be changed. The rooms are nice, comfortable and the location is excellent. It is in walking distance to the Asilomar State Park and Beach. The walking paths along the ocean are well taken care of and the scenery is out of this world. Very peaceful! Reasonably priced and perfectly located -- just steps away from Asilomar and the gorgeous beach. We were so appreciative that the staff let us check in early and then came to our room to reset the satellite connection so that we could watch the football playoffs.
