There was no glass insert for the fireplace. Open gas flame burning.
    Lillian W.

They gave us a room with a gas fireplace. But it was missing the glass insert. Hmm... kinda an important piece to have. So there was an open flame gas pilot light. Loose wires exposed inches to the open flame. They had a side table placed within two feet of the open flame with an upholstered chair next to that. We weren't comfortable not having a glass insert. Besides possibly catching something on fire, we were worried about carbon monoxide poisoning. We called the front desk to tell the clerk about the missing glass. She knew it was missing. We asked for another room, but they were fully booked. She said that it's perfectly safe (to use) and the carbon monoxide alarm works. That's reassuring, NOT. The alarm is located near the ceiling, and the room has a high ceiling while our bed was within 10 feet from the fireplace. The alarm is useless to me if I'm unconscious or worse. We went to the lobby to check out. The clerk said we were charged for the room already, and she is not authorized to give us a refund. She called her manager but got no answer. She then gave us the number, to her manager, to ask for a refund. We left. The next morning, we called that number and left a message. We called again a few days later, and low and behold we were blocked. We also called our credit card company to dispute the charge. After several weeks, our credit card company was able to get us our refund.

The door going into toilet. Termites maybe?

The driveway to rooms is uneven from tree roots, no warning. The room needed maintenance. The spa was floating leaves and green slime. Breakfast was microwaved items and we stayed at "upgraded" cottage. Very disapointed.

No glass on the gas fireplace

The staff were so friendly but our room. Omg..there was no glass on the open flame fire place and our sheets were damp. There was gum on the floor and the walls were dirty. We couldn't get the thermostat to turn our heat off and the heat was blasting so we were boiling hot, so we called the front desk. A man came to our room and couldn't turn it off either so he called facilities and they said it was the circuit breaker and that we wouldn't have heat all night after they messed with it. We froze to death all night and tossed and turned on the pull out bed that is quite frankly not even a bed. We just slept on springs there was just a layer of material separating us from the springs! This place was very uncomfortable. I'm disappointed because the people helping were so kind.

    dirty lampshade- blood?

i would NOT recommend staying here! spend your hard earned cash somewhere else. first off someone tried to scam me for my cc info on our way up- be sure if you get a call from "lighthouse lodge" that it's the true number on google and not some man with an accent whose name is jeffry. next off, it's overlooking a cemetery and has quite a creepy vibe honestly. both me and my bestie had trouble sleeping both nights we were there which is not typical for us. lastly, this place was extremely filthy. i do have high standards for cleanliness but jesus even my relaxed bestie was struggling with the filth. my pillow had blood on it, the chair had blood on it, the walls and curtains were caked with dirt and some other stuff, the bedsheets were stained. it was pretty nasty. also the first night there our toilet was clogged and we called front desk about it and they sent a teenage girl with a plunger, she basically dropped it off and ran away so we had to unclog it ourselves.. not good service and they seem really understaffed or potentially they just underpay their employees to the point where they are lazy and unhelpful.

So with Valentines in mind...check in at 4 but they sent a text saying our room was ready at 11 or so and asked what time might we expect you? My timing was four and that's about when we arrived. It's a bit complicated but the signage was clear and there were a couple of parking spaces right by the check in office. Wow what a place Old Victorian and absolutely beautiful inside. Check in was easy and fun, we could keep our car where it was parked. There were small socializing events, a champagne pour at 5, cookies at 7...Our room was just off the parking area with no stairs to climb. We were also close to the breakfast spot. (starts at 8-10) Our room was well a large bedroom, tall queen size bed, a very large bathroom, with a Great shower (water pressure) and rainfall shower head. Three large windows gave us a good view of the bay, the window shades were thick enough to block out most of the light. The mattress was super comfortable, we slept well. We took an Uber to the old pier and had dinner, it was very quiet in town, perfect. Free breakfast always has me wondering but today this was a very nice breakfast, egg soufflé, hash browns, lots of real fresh fruit, croissants, various breads, oatmeal, various topping and cereal. Hit flavorful coffee, juices, yogurts...good stuff. The stay was pricy for the off season but sometimes ya gotta spend a few bucks too enjoy the finer things in life. Today we're headed up highway One to Capitola and over to San Jose to Santana Row for dinner with the kids, stay tuned. Foodguy-Martin

It felt like we were inconveniencing her by having the audacity to check into our room. The room was small but that's fine, it's to be expected. Note that the walls are THIN AS CAN BE. I could hear the room next to us flush their toilet. I wish I was joking. The worst part was the shower head. The first day it was spraying a bit to the sides and got the bathroom floor a little wet. The second day all hell broke loose and the entire bathroom was soaked after a 5 minute shower. I had to wipe down the counter, the toilet, and the sink from all the shower water. I've never experienced anything like it. The "continental breakfast" is pathetic. Cold and tiny pastries and blueberry bagels. So expect to eat elsewhere for breakfast. I recommend Winston's around the corner (it's outstanding). The lady at the front desk the day we checked out and that I reported the shower leak to was very hospitable. To be honest, she was the only positive part of this entire experience. I'm just so disappointed in this place. I was really looking forward to our stay but it fell short in every way plus some. I waited and waited, and after several minutes of waiting I dinged the bell. Nothing. I finally called the hotel and let it ring for a while, no one answered or came to the lobby where the phone was ringing to answer. I waited longer and tapped the bell again, so I stood there and continued waiting. A young woman finally came to the desk, she was nice enough throughout our interaction, but didn't apologize for leaving me waiting or even ask how long I'd been standing there. This next part is important to keep in mind if you have mobility issues, I asked for a room without stairs, and she said there weren't any. When I booked, the listing said accessible, it wasn't. She said this hotel were converted condos and they all have stairs. We had to go up to two sets of stairs, between my arthritis and the weight of my bags, getting luggage up to the room was a challenge. During check-in, the front desk clerk also instructed me to park right next to the lobby in the handicap spot. She said "it's okay for you to park there, we just have the handicap sign up because we have to, but nobody ever comes to check it." I informed her that's where I was already parked because I have a handicap placard. But her instructing me to park in the only visible accessible spot not knowing I even had a placard really upset me, those spots need to be reserved for those that require them. We were in room 115, which is right above the lobby where breakfast takes place. You can hear the automatic door opening and closing every single time someone entered or exited the lobby making it impossible to sleep in. The room was super clean, I liked that we had two separate bedrooms, and the wet bar with a microwave and fridge were good too. The room also has no AC, just a heater. We had to open the windows to air the room out and there were no locks at the tops of the windows or sliding door to keep it securely cracked while sleeping, so the room was very stuffy. The bed is also super firm and the pillows are a weird small square shape. We did check-out the breakfast and the area was super clean, but their selection wasn't great. Overall our stay was good, but I probably wouldn't pick this property again when there are better options at a similar price point nearby.

The room had a nice jacuzzi bathtub which we both enjoyed. The bed was big and comfortable. There was a cool antique wardrobe in the room which we used to store our clothes. The only downside was that it got a little cool in our room at times (it would be fine in the summer probably but this was in mid February). I put 2 extra blankets on top and we turned on both heaters, the one in the bathroom and the one in our room. Once the heaters had been on for a while it got quite warm and cozy. I would recommend they purchase a nice big down comforter for the room because then we would not need to use as much heat. There was an imitation down comforter but those are not as warm. The service was excellent and everyone was very friendly and nice and helpful. The inn was very clean. The food was excellent. I ate way too many calories for the breakfast but it was so delicious. I didn't gain weight on this trip though, maybe because of all the walking I did, Pacific Grove is an adorable little town and the Lovers Point walking trail is delightful. Make sure to admire the cute houses in the town. So many fun little details. There is a combo bookstore/coffee shop next door to the Gosby House and it was so nice to head over there one morning and get a cappuccino and chat with the other people in the cafe. We also went to the aquarium which is close by and to the Sardine Factory restaurant, which is very nice. One of the perks of staying at the Gosby House is their fresh baked cookies and wine hour. We don't drink alcohol but the fresh baked cookies were delicious, we definitely enjoyed! My favorite was the chocolate/chocolate. Yum. I would definitely return to the Gosby House or back to another 4 sisters inn. I got a really good impression. We also went to the Pacific Thai restaurant which is about 1 block away from the Gosby House. That was great too and I had a good artichoke soup. Parking was quite easy for the Gosby House. They don't have their own lot but it was easy to find parking very close. Check in time was 4pm I think but we got there a little early and our room was ready. The other guests were peaceful and nice and clearly having a good time. The inn was mostly quiet and peaceful. It was quiet at night. I would highly recommend this Inn. Overall it was a very good experience.

The room itself was spacious, the bed was very comfortable (firm, just how we like it), and the harbor view was absolutely perfect. We were a little concerned after reading reviews about the sea lions being noisy, but we actually loved hearing them from the balcony! Once the balcony door was closed, we couldn't hear them at all, and they never disturbed our sleep. One of our favorite perks was the complimentary binoculars available to guests--they were a fun touch for watching the harbor. And don't miss the sunrise from the fourth-floor rooftop terrace--it's absolutely beautiful! There were just a few minor things that could be improved. The hotel only has one elevator, and it can be quite slow during busy times. We also wish the freshly baked cookies were available throughout the day.
