    Sea Mart & Deli
    Christopher M.

I've been living near this store for years and bet I haven't been in it since back in my military days. It's located on the corner of 1st View St and Bay Ave, directly in front of Gate 4, Naval Air Station Norfolk. What prompted me to stop in here today was the Deli sandwiches that I viewed on their Yelp page - several years old. I could be wrong, but it appears that they don't make ANY food here anymore. The kitchen (I shlda gotten a picture) that you see in a "Menu" photo is gleaming because it isn't being used....and...I dont recall a Menu Board hanging above the counter as you see in the other pictures. The cheese steaks, hamburgers, hoagies and wings - all gone. It's a shame considering how much business that could produce from the base and the neighboring community, AND that the outside of the building still displays several Dietz & Watson Deli Meats banners on the front of the building - two of which read "Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner". I attempted to ask the store clerk about it, but got a confused "no english" response. After arriving home, I looked on Google reviews also and wasn't able to find anything more current than 10mos ago that indicates that they still offer freshly prepared food and sandwiches, other than a comment from Mimi a month ago (July 2023) that states, "Great place to get a hot meal or sandwich". All in all, without the kitchen being used, it's just another overpriced convenience store. P.S. If anyone knows if or when they open the kitchen, please let me know. I'd love to return and try it.

My girlfriend and I stopped by this little shop today and had an awesome experience. The gentleman cooking was extremely welcoming, friendly and without a doubt made two new regular customers. We ordered the chicken philly and got the combo. Both the sand which and the fries were on point! He was also nice enough to throw in some wings, no charge. He makes his own sauce which was also very good! I'd highly recommend stopping by this place and grabbing an incredible sandwich from a New York style deli with great management.

Wow! I would have never stopped in here if it wasn't for Yelp, despite it being right around the corner from my house. It is exactly what it looks like - a small hole in the wall convenience store that happens to make food. But oh what food! Again, it is what it is, there is no seating for dine in here, but definitely stop in and grab some subs to go. Hubby went with the roast beef and I had the Soprano (ham, pepperoni & salami). They use only Dietz & Watson brand meats and cheeses here. The bread is phenomenal!! Even lightly toasted, it was fresh and airy. Plenty of meat on these subs as well. $7.99 for a combo (fries & a canned drink), makes it a great value. We weren't big fans of the fries, but who cares? We'll be back for the great subs! A true gem in Ocean View located directly outside of gate 4 at the Navy base. Don't miss this one!

Do not pass this hole in the wall!! The only reason I thought about getting food from here is because all of my coworkers rave about how this is so much better than subway and that you get a better bang for your buck! This place did not disappoint! I've drove past this place for 4 years and I'm glad I finally stopped. The sandwich was huge!!! And that is not an understatement! This deli is not one of Those sandwich shops that overcharges for meat or skimps out on it to charge less. For only 6.99 I got a sandwich, fries AND a drink. The fries were surprisingly good, the seasoning (which I believe is just old bay) was awesome and the fries themselves weren't soggy. I called around 12 and they said it would take 20 minutes but I got there shortly after and it was ready to go. You won't be disappointed.

    Turkey sandwich meal

I've been passing by this hole in the wall for about four years and was craving a decent sandwich today -- you know the type about bread fresh and toasted with enough meat to actually satisfy my lunch time hunger -- needless to say I didn't want Subway. This turkey sandwich exceeded my expectations bread is perfectly toasted, the meat is plentiful and mouth wateringly delicious. The sandwich includes a green and red peppers of some sort and IT.SETS.IT.OFF! Also, their fries are crisp, not burnt, and the seasoning... I can't say enough about my food. DELICIOUS. On another note, the customer service is not what you would expect from a corner store deli. I was expecting indifferent employees and rude staff, but I was greeted by a friendly chef and staff is personable, welcoming, and from the conversations he has built a lasting repertoire with his customers. This family owned business is worth checking out especially if you are tired of the same ole, same ole from the franchised sandwich shops.

Stopped by this deli briefly because we were in need of some lunch, and were pleasantly surprised. Best hoagie I have had in a long time!! Very personable, family owned deli. Would 100% recommend and will definitely be back!

Dropped $77.00 on goods, including anchovies, coffee pods, apple sauce, bird seed, gardening gloves, mushrooms, honey, marzipan bar, bandaids, vinegar, huge water jugs, Old Bay seasoning, Tajik seasoning, citrus scented trash bags and a paper bag to carry the small stuff.

Employees aren't unfriendly, just scarce, semi-avoidant and unhelpful. Today, an employee approached me with "Sir, we don't allow photo taking in our store." When I realized he was serious, I asked for an explanation and to see the corporate policy (he didn't answer); as a Yelper, I shared that photos brought authenticity, then asked if I would be kicked out if I continued. "I've been instructed to ask people not to take pictures." I'm sure there's a reason but I was annoyed! This is Lidl not a government building. Was someone in witness protection? The visit rolled downhill when I saw a sale flyer item I wanted (gingerbread village kit) but the 3 employees I approached couldn't tell me where it was. I found it myself at the very front of the store after I wasted 5-10 minutes of my life I won't get back. For us, future return visits don't look good. If you go, here's a detailed evolution... EARLY PROS? Big parking lot with wide spaces. Fresh bakery items with some uncommon varieties (cherry jelly filled donut) plus free samples. Customer operated digital scales/printers to price your own produce/bakery items. Weekly sales, app specials and perennial markdowns. New store so inside was pretty clean and bright. SO-SO's? Most products are unknown generic brands that you roll the dice on to later learn what to buy/not buy. BYOB: bring your own bags or PAY for theirs. The wannabe department store items in those rear center aisle bins made me chuckle; felt like a swap meet "get your frozen pizzas, pajamas, crepe makers, footballs, and screw drivers over here!" The appeal is gone. So are the samples and scales/printer terminals (ppl were cheating the system). Stock availability is hit and miss, especially with sale items, dairy and baked goods.

Overall, I've had consistently great experiences, which is why I wanted to share both the positives and one area that could use some attention. The Fresh Market has one of the best meat counters around. Their filet mignon is my go-to purchase, and it's always been outstanding. Their produce is consistently fresh, and I also love their bakery. They regularly offer unique seasonal and specialty baked goods that are always worth trying. Today, I decided to order their fresh bruschetta because it's not something many stores carry. I was excited to try it, but unfortunately, when it arrived, it didn't look fresh at all. Even though the container is dated to expire tomorrow, it had a milky appearance that made it look unappetizing and, in my opinion, not safe to eat. I understand that products can occasionally slip through the cracks, but I think this is something that should have been noticed before it made it into a customer's order. Whether it's during stocking, by the department team, or at checkout, I hope more attention is given to products that no longer appear fresh, even if they're still within the sell-by date. Overall, this one experience won't keep me from shopping at The Fresh Market. I still highly recommend them for their excellent meat department, fresh produce, bakery, and the convenience of delivery. I just hope they take a closer look at product quality so future customers don't have the same experience. So the next morning I woke up with the intention of drinking my Bizzy Expresso Cold Brew Coffee only to find it expired a month ago which is very concerning and disappointing! The One Downside: This location doesn't have an in-store cafe. A fresh latte or a smoothie would have been the perfect with our pizza. Bottom Line: Great for high-quality essentials and easy meals.
