What makes a good sandwich? Is it the people who made it? The ingredients? How's its assembled? Whatever it is, the team behind the counter at this deli has it locked down. They make possibly the best Italian sub in the area: reminds me delis in NYC I used to go to in college. Perfectly seasoned oil and vinegar, flavorful meats, and a perfect deli paper wrap make this one of my go-to to-go lunch spots. A true deli with a convenience store feel was something I had been missing when I moved here... until I found this place. With specials like jerk chicken egg rolls, amazing other subs, and a whole lot of snacks to choose from, skip Subway and come support a local business!! read more

I wanted to try this place out since I work at NOB and the prices and menu items were UPDATED DECEMBER 2025. I got the smallest Philly sub and it started at $12.50, then the cashier pushed it to $13 and taxed me an extra $1.69. Do not go to this place, they are a scam. read more

I've been living near this store for years and bet I haven't been in it since back in my military days. It's located on the corner of 1st View St and Bay Ave, directly in front of Gate 4, Naval Air Station Norfolk. What prompted me to stop in here today was the Deli sandwiches that I viewed on their Yelp page - several years old. I could be wrong, but it appears that they don't make ANY food here anymore. The kitchen (I shlda gotten a picture) that you see in a "Menu" photo is gleaming because it isn't being used....and...I dont recall a Menu Board hanging above the counter as you see in the other pictures. The cheese steaks, hamburgers, hoagies and wings - all gone. It's a shame considering how much business that could produce from the base and the neighboring community, AND that the outside of the building still displays several Dietz & Watson Deli Meats banners on the front of the building - two of which read "Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner". I attempted to ask the store clerk about it, but got a confused "no english" response. After arriving home, I looked on Google reviews also and wasn't able to find anything more current than 10mos ago that indicates that they still offer freshly prepared food and sandwiches, other than a comment from Mimi a month ago (July 2023) that states, "Great place to get a hot meal or sandwich". All in all, without the kitchen being used, it's just another overpriced convenience store. P.S. If anyone knows if or when they open the kitchen, please let me know. I'd love to return and try it. read more

Food is disgusting hair in food. The service is horrible. Lady at the front very dumb cannot read or count. I am not sure if it is hereditary but her son who DOESNT not work there but behing the register cannot count either it read they barely understand English from my knowldge. Which is ironic because she is always at the register. She is constantly TALKING on her phone not paying attention , you even have to ask for a bag in this establishment. Manager is never there I would never waste my money on this place again. read more

Ordered the Italian hoagie today and it was absolutely awful. The bread was dry and the ingredients did not match an authentic italian hoagie. By default they put mayonnaise on it which is not by any means an italian hoagie. More of an American hoagie. I made a simple request for no mayonnaise and the cook lathered my sandwich up with mayonnaise. It was such a basic request and they still messed it up. I was confronted by people in front of the store asking for money for food and the wait line was very unorganized. Just an awful experience. Not to mention they over seasoned the fries and after 5 minutes they were awful. I just threw the plate in the trash. My girlfriend and I stopped by this little shop today and had an awesome experience. The gentleman cooking was extremely welcoming, friendly and without a doubt made two new regular customers. We ordered the chicken philly and got the combo. Both the sand which and the fries were on point! He was also nice enough to throw in some wings, no charge. He makes his own sauce which was also very good! I'd highly recommend stopping by this place and grabbing an incredible sandwich from a New York style deli with great management. read more

Wow! I would have never stopped in here if it wasn't for Yelp, despite it being right around the corner from my house. It is exactly what it looks like - a small hole in the wall convenience store that happens to make food. But oh what food! Again, it is what it is, there is no seating for dine in here, but definitely stop in and grab some subs to go. Hubby went with the roast beef and I had the Soprano (ham, pepperoni & salami). They use only Dietz & Watson brand meats and cheeses here. The bread is phenomenal!! Even lightly toasted, it was fresh and airy. Plenty of meat on these subs as well. $7.99 for a combo (fries & a canned drink), makes it a great value. We weren't big fans of the fries, but who cares? We'll be back for the great subs! Do not pass this hole in the wall!! The only reason I thought about getting food from here is because all of my coworkers rave about how this is so much better than subway and that you get a better bang for your buck! This place did not disappoint! I've drove past this place for 4 years and I'm glad I finally stopped. The sandwich was huge!!! And that is not an understatement! This deli is not one of Those sandwich shops that overcharges for meat or skimps out on it to charge less. For only 6.99 I got a sandwich, fries AND a drink. The fries were surprisingly good, the seasoning (which I believe is just old bay) was awesome and the fries themselves weren't soggy. I've been passing by this hole in the wall for about four years and was craving a decent sandwich today -- you know the type about bread fresh and toasted with enough meat to actually satisfy my lunch time hunger -- needless to say I didn't want Subway. This turkey sandwich exceeded my expectations bread is perfectly toasted, the meat is plentiful and mouth wateringly delicious. The sandwich includes a green and red peppers of some sort and IT.SETS.IT.OFF! Also, their fries are crisp, not burnt, and the seasoning... I can't say enough about my food. DELICIOUS. On another note, the customer service is not what you would expect from a corner store deli. I was expecting indifferent employees and rude staff, but I was greeted by a friendly chef and staff is personable, welcoming, and from the conversations he has built a lasting repertoire with his customers. Probably one of the best sub sandwiches I've ever eaten! I had the roast beef and wow! I literally yummed thru the whole sandwich...it was so unexpected, I didn't think to take a picture. Not sure which was better, the freshly shaven roast beef or warm freshly baked bread!? Biting into this sandwich was warm with a light crunch that gave way into a soft mouth full of celebration! Seriously! The balance was perfect...roast beef, lettuce, onions, sweet mildly hot peppers, vinager, oil and light seasonings. Of course, you pick your toppings. :-) We're up from Atlanta visiting our Navy family and will most definitely eat here again before we head back home. This place is a staple with the food at work. They serve a lot of different tasty po' boys and sandwiches and amazing French fries, I would recommend trying them out. They are a full corner convenience store and offer many junk food options as well as beer and wine. read more

I'm eating this as I type. This food is amazing! I usually don't trust gas station food, but wow I'm glad my boyfriend talked me into eating here. Probably one of the best subs I have eaten. I have gotten breakfast here a few times, nothing special, but good and affordable. The subs are where it's at!! My favorite is the olde towne. It's been a while since I've been here, but seeing it at #1 nearby reminded me! The owner is fantastic, I was terribly sick one day and popped in because it was so close to home to grab some ginger ale (and red wine). When he found out it was my first time, he insisted on making me a complimentary sub. It made my day (week even); as I didn't have the strength to cook/go grocery shopping. If you were looking for health food, skip see Mart and deli and go to a different place. If you want an Italian sub that is on par with anything from the Northeast. Go to the sea mart deli and take my advice to pick up a combo meal preferably the soprano made all the way with fries and a soft drink all for under $7.50. This place is run by a bunch of guys were making a go of it as a small business and their subs are frankly Way better than anything you'll find and a franchise sandwich place. Do not go to Subway or anything of the equivalent, how about small business and go to a place like the sea mart. For you dainty folks out there who may be a little intimidated by the rough exterior, take note I have been to this place at least 20 times, and The folks there are nothing but nice. Both the owners of the small convenience store and the guys working the sandwich place are always cordial and provide us a professional service sohelp them out and buy a sandwich. Today, I decided to order their fresh bruschetta because it's not something many stores carry. I was excited to try it, but unfortunately, when it arrived, it didn't look fresh at all. Even though the container is dated to expire tomorrow, it had a milky appearance that made it look unappetizing and, in my opinion, not safe to eat. I understand that products can occasionally slip through the cracks, but I think this is something that should have been noticed before it made it into a customer's order. Whether it's during stocking, by the department team, or at checkout, I hope more attention is given to products that no longer appear fresh, even if they're still within the sell-by date. Overall, this one experience won't keep me from shopping at The Fresh Market. I still highly recommend them for their excellent meat department, fresh produce, bakery, and the convenience of delivery. I just hope they take a closer look at product quality so future customers don't have the same experience. I ordered turkey lunch meat and noticed they gave me ham! I telephoned the FAT NASTY, owner who can't seem to keep employees and now I know why. He said there was nothing he could do for his mistake. WOW he must have really been PRESSED for $4.99. HORRIBLE! The grease is OLD and you can smell it a block away from the store. Take a look at the grease when you go into the store, Nasty, Old, and extremely dirty!!! Notice the DIRTY RAG they use to wipe of the countertop once FLYS have been on it.
