Chose this place for dinner late Tuesday night. Bar area was busy but the back room only had a few other parties there. Food: Rolls and butter were served first, room temperature. I wish they were warm. The calamari was hot and fresh, and the tomato sauce made it stellar. The entrees are supposedly single serving but could be enough food for 3! The fisherman's stew came with a whole fish, potatoes, green peppers, and onions in a tomato base. It did not disappoint. Took 3/4 of it home. My partner had the rooster stew. It was chicken with rice in a brownish sauce. He liked it, but I preferred my fish. (I am very partial to tomato based soups). He finished half and we took the other half home. Service: Pretty friendly. It was kind of weird that they were adjusting napkins and chairs right next to us while we were waiting for our food, but we're not easily perturbed. Ambiance: Fine, warm dining atmosphere. Golden lights were strung up near the kitchen area and a small Christmas tree was twinkling with colored lights. Tessellation tiles adorn the walls. Tables are close to each other, but it wasn't crowded while we were there. Bathrooms are tucked discreetly behind a half wall. The women's bathroom was freezing and seemed well-ventilated --- I guess that helps get rid of the smell. Used paper towels were overflowing onto the floor, but it was otherwise clean. read more

Came here after recommendations from people and seeing a lot of good reviews. I usually head to Iberia or Fernendes when I want Portuguese food but decided to give this a shot. At first I was impressed the Sangria was really good but then it was all down hill from there. The calamari good, octopus salad ok and shrimp with garlic sauce tasted freezer burnt. For an entree the seafood paella was mediocre and mix seafood patter was alright. What made it take more of a nosedive was our server being a prick. He looked upset the whole time, didn't talk or check up on us other than "are you ready to order?". He was rude and bumped into me as he was throwing the food down. Maybe it's because the tip was already included... his loss I usually tip better than that. read more

6 adults and 1 toddler- we had a fantastic meal here while breezing thru town on an Art mission. The Dry Soup is ridiculous: tons of seafood in a broth that they toss a bunch of bread chunks into, which then soaks up all the juice. It turns into this amazingly weird and perfectly seasoned pan of exoticness from some bizarre seafood culture. The cockles are delicate and plentiful, the crab legs were giant, the sea bass tender as a mother's love. Decent white wine at about $22/bottle, so you can afford a few to wash it all down. First I was raised in Egypt. So I love seafood. Nothing beats fresh seafood that is prepared to perfection. First when u walk in it looks really normal looking restraunt then the smells starting kicking you in the face. You look at the menu prices do look expensive that they make red lobster dirt cheap. But no worries those plates are enough for two people. I ordered the seafood soup I would say u have to try it. I love lobster so I went for the whole stuffed lobster plate which is priced according to lobster daily price and weight. Small lobster which is good for one was only $25. The larger one 2lbs is $70 yucks. That lobster only comes with potatoes I took rice instead. The taste was to die for. Crab stuffing a generous portions fills the lobster. What else can be better than eating crab stuffing dipped in butter with drops of lemon and then dig into the lobster mmmmm mmmmm that's all I can say I am getting hungry just talking about it read more

Went here today in searcb of paella. This place looks like it caters to locals. If you're not a local or Portugeuse... do not expect good service. Sat at bar area, food was crazy slow and waiters not at all attentive. Please go back to waiter school because you all suck! Ordered valencia paella dish.....took about 45 minutes to come. Really? It cant take that long to make that dish. I tasted one shrimp and some rice and sent that mess back and left. A waste of my time!!!! read more

I waited 40 minutes before I had to ask how much longer; and mind you no servers came to me to let me know how much longer it would be or anything prior. I was just ignored at the counter. In 35 years eating in the Ironbound this was the worst dining experience we have ever had there. We love Portuguese and Brazilian Cuisine and have tried many restaurants without being skunked. Our waiter was totally inattentive, he spent most of our time there with his back to the dining room folding napkins. He never asked if we wanted another drink, wine or water. He served our entree before serving my wife her soup which only arrived after my wife asked one of the other servers for it. Our drinks were good as was the bread but the food was a disaster: my wife's comment on her soup was "tastes like something that might be served in a prison." The large Cataplana contained 3 clams, 4 bay scallops, 2 mussels, about a half dozen tiny shrimp and a lobster plus a second body. The lobster meat was shriveled and tasteless as though it had died of starvation in a holding tank and then been precooked. The broth had neither garlic or herbs and was tasteless as well. To add insult to injury, the prices were substantially higher than those on the posted menus. Stay away. read more

Star off for slower service - maybe I'm too impatient and was starving but we had a 3pm lunch... I come here for mainly the dry soup. It's reminds me of Chinese congee rice on steroids with really tasty soup base and porridge made from bread instead of rice Cubed pork and clam dish is good - salty pork with heavy flavors and can serve two over a plate of potatoes as carbs. Food here is tasty and no frills...but be prepared to be here for a while... I was slightly turned off when I whipped out my credit card and the machine didn't work. Many of the supposedly Portuguese restaurants in Ironbound are really Brazilian or Spanish, which is not a bad thing in itself. It just is not Portuguese. In look, ambiance and cuisine this one though is close to the real deal. The menu is centered on seafood, but there are certainly plenty of non seafood options. Three of us had the cataplana, which we all were happy with. It was more centered on seafood than a typical cataplana you see in Portugal, which is centered on fish, but it was very good. One member of the party had the Paelha A Valenciana, which why less specifically Portuguese is a dish commonly served in Portugal and did have sausage that was more Portuguese than Spanish. The final dish we had was the Camarao Grelhado, grilled jumbo shrimp which was also excellent. All in all this place is a great option for Portuguese food. read more

The most worse service I've see ever. Our waiter left for the day, just when we got there. He took our order after that no help. I wanted a ginger ale so I had to walk upto the bar to get one. He also said it was two dollar when we got our bill it was 3 dollars for 4 Oz of flat soda. Only reason for me coming here because a friend of mines been coming there for years. This might be the last time for her and it's definitely my last time. There was over 10 waiters but we couldn't get one. Also when they brought the food over I told them about my food allergies and the man caught an attitude. I wanted to flip out but it was my friend birthday. The blue sangria is pretty good; I would skip the green sangria. The service is overall okay. I would have given then 4 stars except they still put (1) shrimp in my sister's paella after we stressed her allergy to shrimp. read more

Great joint to grab some delicious and fresh seafood. A little on the pricer end given the environment and atmosphere. The carne alentejano (pork and clams mixed with cubed potatoes) is always a good choice and so is their seafood festival. I recommend this place for anyone who wants privacy and seafood. read more

We celebrated my mother-in-law's birthday here. The portion is amazing, the service is quick, the food is pretty darn good (obviously not comparable to Portugal seaside seafood, but as good as it can get in NJ). Come and be prepared to have seafood juice splashed all over your shirt (and don't sit next to your clumsy husband). We had no idea it was the place is the designated birthday central in NJ, because ever table had a birthday song played by the restaurant. I Absolutely love this place. Few years ago friends of mine took me to a great Portuguese restaurant in Newark but I didn't remember it's name or address. Yesterday while in NJ I've decided to look up a Portuguese restaurant in Newark and lucky me I found "the place". The food is amazing and so is the staff. The only thing i wasn't very clear about is the seating, they don't have a hostess or anyone at the front seating people, we stood around for about 15min before someone told us that we had to sign our name in the book. I understand its a Portuguese restaurant but if it is clear the customers do not speak Portuguese lets go to English instead of continually speaking Portuguese and confusing everyone. Large delicious servings! We were all hungry but after 3 appetizers: we were kind of full. We had the Garlic Shrimp, Fried Calamari, and New Zealand Cockles. Everything was very yummy especially the sauces. The entree were: The Dry Soup(Delicious), Stuffed Lobster Tail (The stuffing was grainy with a kind of mustard flavor not bad but not great), Garlic Shrimp(Giant!!) & The Grouper. Everything was delicious. The Dry soup is a little eggy because the don't poached the egg first as stated on the menu as much as just crack an egg over the the steaming hot dish. Still good. Sangria was very good. The service was not so great. We were almost shown to a ready table then waited standing while the made up the table next to the one we would be seated. the guy literally held the menus in his hand: & one handed assisted 2 other guys to make up the table while we stood and watched. Only for him to seat us at the ALREADY MADE TABLE! Three times is the charm for ordering anything additional. Although there are 3 -4 wait staff bustling around the dinning room at any given time: they are busy and not available to speak with you. This place is probably my #1 for Surf and Turf. I know, not much goes into a medallion of Fillet or a lobster tail, but theirs is simple and tasty. I've been to a lot of places where one side is better than the other. Seabra also has a nice ambiance. The communal seating and tiled walls really brings authenticity to a Portuguese meal. In the end, good selection, good food, good service and reasonable pricing for the quality you get. In ironbound there are many overrated places that are probably more popular. This place is one of those "gems" you pass on to your friends and family. read more

Went on an East Coast trip and our family friends took us here. Boy were we in for a treat! Loved, loved, loved everything. The seafood was cookes to perfection. But putting that aside.....the food was so good I'd give it five stars anyway. Went big and got the seafood platter for two which is just an absurd amount of seafood - lobster, shrimp, clams, mussels, two pieces of grilled fillet (didn't get which kind it was) - plus huge portions of rice and potatoes. Found the sangria (pitcher for $27.50) very sweet...wish I had just gotten a bottle of wine, which were affordable btw. This place became very shady! First they misguide you to order individual plates, but it is a lot of food and you don't need to do that! One order is enough for 2 people. Then, please do not ask for sparkling water, unless you want to pay $3 per a small bottle. Ask for 1 liter bottle of spring water! Then at the end they said our internet and card payments are not working, so they direct you to an ATM at the entrance of the restaurant. They charge $2.00 plus the bank transaction fee of $2.50! Not going back again. The bill for 4 people was $150 and in waters we spent $24, as they kept bringing the small bottles of sparkling water. I've been here over a dozen times but it's time for a change. I usually sit at the bar, better service and quicker. My last visit, I ordered the octopus salad and felt it was so bland and not tasty at all. I also ordered the mussels and felt they were good but not great, again something was missing in the ingredients. The shocking thing that I saw was when one of the bartenders take a spoon and help himself to a dish that was made for one of the customers before it was served to the customer. I love this place. No complaints. For the price, you get very good portions. I rarely give an establishment 5 stars. This is a real deal seafood joint - so order SEAFOOD, and not meats. We started off with a pitcher of sangria - excellent. For appetizers - oysters in a half shell - very fresh. Then we had the entree - again, bring your appetite because they are great portions. I was so full that I opted for espresso after dinner and not dessert, but the waiter was cool enough to offer me another on the house - excellent by the way - Portugese coffee beans. Now thats service. We were the last ones to leave and these guys never rushed us or annoyed us while we were eating - like the old school restaurants waiters - no nonsense service. Went to celebrate my honey's birthday and boy was I disappointed.
