Not as huge or popular as its more known counterpart (Seafood City) but the selections are just as good. Fresh produce, fresh seafood, fresh meat. A great variety of junk food as well as canned goodies from the homeland. I even discovered a few items I never thought would make it to these United States. They also keep up with cleanliness. Not one thing wasn't where it's supposed to be. I wonder if they have someone going around just to make sure of that! It's a good alternative if you can't find what you're looking for at the bigger store. Definitely returning!

A few weeks ago, I read an article in the Los Angeles Times about seasonal herbs, spurred by the Vietnamese who clamored for tastes of home. I remembered my days growing up in Vietnam, the fresh herbs that were added to every meal made each meal sing in harmony. Well, maybe that was just a dream, because I was born in the Imperial Valley. The freshest herbs we had was the cilantro that sprouted up next to the mulberry tree. However, I began a hunt for these fresh herbs. I found them at Seafood Ranch Market. This small grocery store definitely caters to Asian tastes. I love taking my time to explore these kinds of markets, but because I was on my way to my diabetes education class, I couldn't really spend too much time looking around. In the produce section, they had the things that I typically expect a grocer to have: tomatoes, onions, avocados, carrots, etc. However, I was blown away by the amount and variety of fresh herbs that were being sold. I picked up a few bags and decided to take a chance on them. They were from plants I had never even heard of. (I took them home, washed them and tried a few leaves. Bitter and spicy. I love them! I am trying to figure out how to best highlight that sensation.) Most of the herbs were already packaged in plastic bags with a barcode sticker on them. No weighing at check out! ( I appreciated that.) I also got a bag of green beans. They were the absolutely freshest and tasty ones I have ever eaten. (Well, when I have picked fresh beans, those were better, but these were right up there.) The meat and fish counters had very fresh looking food. There was NO seafood smell, a sign of freshness. The butchers and fishmongers were eager to help customers. I saw one of them scaling and fileting a fish. It saves on mess at home! If I weren't on my way to a class, I would have picked up some fish and meat. There are all manner of noodles, sauces, oils and candies. There were frozen foods and other aisles that I didn't venture down. This place isn't close to where I live, but I know that I will be able to find the herbs there, when in season. I will be back. It is right across the street from Carson High School, but don't let that scare you. There were no teenagers in there and they had just gotten out of summer school.

Seafood City Market…read more This is a review for my experience shopping at Seafood City Market in Carson, CA. WORDS TO DESCRIBE: Seafood City Homey, bustling, lively, community driven, diverse, colorful, full in flavor -It is a market specializing in Filipino/Asian products. It carries fresh produce, meat/seafood, and your favorite ingredients needed to create your Filipino family dishes. There is a Grill City restaurant in the store, where you can select your meats and sides, as well as tables and chairs to dine in there. PRODUCTS; They have all of your Filipino family fiesta needs in the store. We often go there to get fish-tilapia and have it fried. It does take awhile, but it's worth it. My favorite items to purchase are their vegetables, as well as my favorite snacks. My go to snacks: SkyFlakes: buttery, simple crackers...it's basically the Filipino version of a Ritz Cracker Mang Tomas Sauce: Our all purpose sauce for meats Banana Ketchup Shrimp Chips Kopiko coffee candy BEER: Filipino beer: San Miguel or Red Horse All in all I enjoy going to Seafood City! I come here for all my grocery needs! I also love that there is a Jollibee and Filipino bakeries adjacent to the store! Go shopping and enjoy the taste of the Philippines at Seafood City! Mabuhay!

There's limited parking in the back of the building and only big enough for smaller compact cars. They have several buckets of fish sitting on ice chips, lining the middle of the store. A couple live tanks against the wall. Decent variety. When I was choosing my fish from their ice buckets, I thought they looked a little extra slimy but against my better judgment just gave it a shot anyway. Took my catfish to the kitchen to request it be fried. Within a couple hours of eating, I got the worst food poisoning I've had in a very long time. This was such a disappointing experience and now I'm sick as a dog. If I could leave 0 stars, I would.

Location: in a shopping center across the street from Dignity Stadium in Carson. Plenty of parking although shared with other businesses. Food: I got the #1 lunch special with your choice of fish and two sides. I chose to go with french fries and hush puppies although I probably should've gone for the potato salad instead of the hush puppies. The catfish was perfectly fried, well seasoned and not overly fried. The fries were slightly salty, but crisp and not soggy, which was a godsend, especially coming from mom and pop shops. My one gripe with this whole dish was the hush puppies. Although nice and crisp on the outside, they were kind of small and I only got three hush puppies.3!!!!! if you're gonna give me small hush puppies at least give me a decent amount not just three. And if you're gonna give me three at least make them.bigger than the size of a gumball. While there is no seating on the inside and no AC, the service was good although the pick up system was a bit confusing for some of us. The smell of frying foods in that small shop can be overwhelming for some and a couple of us walked outside the door just to get some relief from all that oil smell. No drinks are offered here, so bring your own. Strictly a pick up and go shop, so if you're crunched for time, call your order in. Pricing is better than most, although considering what I got, I think I should've gotten more out of those hush puppies. What wasn't a comforting thought was one customer came in to make a complaint about a food item he said was not fully cooked. I didn't have such an issue with my fish, so to each their own. Would I come back? I might because the fish fry was top-notch. The sides, maybe not so much except for the fries. I want to make a second trip with a different kind of fish or shrimp combination to see if anything changes or if the quality remains the same.

So if smells like a tourist trap, barks like a tourist trap, and appears like a tourist trap. Then…read moreit's probably is! Look I would've given this place 3 stars, but the customer service and wait time was ridiculous. Hear me out, this is my experience from last Saturday. So first it can be challenging to find this place, since the pier has so many level to it. Look for the elevators. When you get there, for the first time, you see a main line, well for what? Then you see other lines, well for what? Then you see an oyster line, oh. In order to determine what each line is for, you have to do independent research. From whom? Well the employee, who do not show case any form of customer service. There were so many people lost and confused. To break it down, each "Order Here" has their own area of what can be ordered by the pound and/or cooked. So not all lines are equal. There is a crab line, seafood boil/pre-seasoned seafood, oyster, clams, I think I saw fish and fried platters, which was the longest. So after much deliberation, an employee managed to wrangle the customers to form a line. Although his mannerism seems like I'm just done with this place. One might consider ropes to further avoid these mundane confusions... I got Ana's seafood boil mix, $99. It came with a lobster, dungeoness crab, peeled shrimp, clams, sausage and potatoes. The employee told me about 10 mins. I'm like okaaaay, only 10? I walked to their souvenir shop, nothing crazy or must haves. Just cheap Chinese things with their name printed on. I return in 10 minutes. The guy doing prepping/expediting the pick order was in a frantic state. Older white male, white mustache. He was running around, mixing orders up, couldn't even tell what customers had what. The employee that wrangling folks came to help him collect himself. So 10 minutes wait turns to 15, 20, then 30 minutes. I had 2 other employees check up on my order, they said it's not ready. Okay. Finally about 35 minutes it's ready. He didn't even call out my order, I had to wave my ticket. The first rule of speed of service, never over sell the time. If it's gonnabe 30 mins plus, say 40 mins, gimme a bs reason, short handed, etc, I don't care! But why would you tell me it'll be 10 mins?! So finally got the food. Flavor was pretty good. Lobster, was okay. I wished the shrimp had the head on. Clams were big. Sausage was good. Potato seemed like the diced ones from a can, they were so small. The crab, however, is the driest. Yep, for a place that exclaims "Quality Seafood," it was kind've of a let down. They taste like the bottom batch of the crab at Las Vegas buffet. You know the batch that sits on the bottom, they don't ever rotate because the employees don't care. So it's just marinating in its own dry filth. The crab was so dry I could put that in an Advil bottle instead of cotton. So now if you ask me, would I come back? Maybe, just maybe. Anytime soon? Nah, not right now. Also with the mention of a tourist trap, it's no different than Seattle's Pike Place and surroundings.
