It started great when we stopped in & spoke with Tony about redoing our kitchen floor. Picked out what we wanted & scheduled for Tony to come out 2 days later to measure & provide an estimate. The estimate was emailed to us by the end of the day. The price was a little higher than another we received, but like others, got a good feeling from Tony so we accepted it and paid 1/2 for the deposit. Told the remaining amount was due when the job was completed. This is when things began to unravel... Scheduled the install (which was to take 1 day), were told they would be out b/t 9-10am. 2 of the 3 young men arrived at 10:30 am. I was told the lead, Jeremy, was running late. Apparently without a lead, the other employees are just paid to unload the supplies, work at molasses speed & take multiple cigarette breaks. When Jeremy did arrive, work actually began to happen & they busted out the job. BTW this was a "floating" floor, so they did not have to rip up the old one, just install the new one over it. As their work day ended, I was informed that the transition strips were backordered, but they would have them in a few days and would call us when they arrived. Because the job was not complete, I chose to not make final payment in the thought-we won't be a priority if they've already been paid in full, which Jeremy agreed with. After no call for a week, I called them to inquire about the strips. I spoke with Kathy (office manager??) who informed me that the strips had come in, but they weren't happy with the color & sent them back. OK, but why not call & let us know this??? Another 2 wks. pass with no communication from VDF, my husband called to check the status & was told they were in & scheduled for them to come out a day or 2 later to install them. Again, why do we need to call them??? Jeremy & another young man arrives when scheduled & shortly after informs me that they didn't send him with enough strips to complete the task. This is where things really get to the point when you have to wonder how this business is still open.... Jeremy tells me that they are going to go back to the shop & check to see if there is more available. If not, he personally will drive out to their supplier (I believe he said it was in Elk Grove Village) and get more so that he can finish this job today. I asked him to have someone call me when he got back to the shop to let me know if I was waiting for him to come right back or if he indeed had to make the trip to the supplier & I could go into work and get some things taken care of. After no phone call & no return of them after 30 min (the shop is 10min. from our house), I left & went to work. Probably another week passes & I get a call to finish the job. Jeremy arrives (on a Friday) & is unable to install the strips b/c of issues with the track & thickness of our carpet. He tells me that he needs to get strips of wood to install under the track to lift it higher. He tells me that he will return that evening at 5:30p.m. and leaves a small mess of material on the kitchen floor where he was working (the strips, carpet strips that he removed, etc.). Now, I know you'll be surprised here...but, he didn't return that evening, and again NO PHONE CALL! 2 days later (Sunday afternoon), he called & asked if he could come out & finish the job, which FINALLY happened. I was out of town, and my husband was on the phone when he was finished. My husband, obviously as frustrated as I have become with this, told him he was busy with the phone call & would stop in during the week to finish payment on the invoice. A week passes & got busy with life & our business and hadn't gotten over to the shop to make that payment. And yes, wanted to make it in-person to discuss our unhappiness with the service we received. In a matter of 24 hrs. we received a total of 5 phone calls from Kathy at both our business & home requesting final payment. 5 PHONE CALLS IN 24 HRS, beyond insulting! Especially, when we didn't receive 5 phone calls from this company in the 5 WEEKS it took to finish a job that was suppose to take 1 DAY!! We will never do business with this company again, I'm not sure I've experienced such unprofessional & subpar customer service from a business.

There seemed to be moisture under my floors--the tenant was not so happy. I (your friendly neighborhood landlord) was not so happy. Also, it looked like poop. Our job was to rip out the floor, take away all the grossness that had developed under the floor (garden unit), and put down some spiffy NEW tile in its place. I called Tony, he gave me a fair estimate (the lowest of the three I got), and they did an AMAZING job on the tile. Right on schedule. He is honest, punctual, and very talented. Also a native Chicago guy, with a crew of his own dudes. And yes, he will be ON the actual crew that does the actual work. (Bonus!) Nice to have a good dude for a change, who cares about his work. No brainer here folks, all day long. For all the tile work you've got to do, Tony's your guy. If only all contractor-type decisions were this easy...

Just 2 simple things - explain to me why the brand new model house has a huge crack in one wall toward the ceiling and then explain to me again why the architect (or whoever it is you have draw up the plans) does not need to be certified. Seems like they have great salespeople and they certainly are friendly and knowledgeable except for the 2 issues named above. The house plans and decorating are stunning and we will revisit in the future when our hectic lives settle down.

Shingles were flying off of our roof, roofing company came out & still continued to happen. After the 2nd time "fixing" a rain storm comes & we hear water. Our roof started to leak. At that time, we find out the roofing company used by KLM was under investigation by OSHA & refused to call us back. We reach out to KLM regarding the leaking roof and the owner himself advised "that's why you have homeowners insurance". Really? This roof isn't even 2 years old & it's leaking? We called another independent roofer to repair & paid out of pocket. We also have had a water leak from our master shower b/c it wasn't caulked correctly & water leaked to our living room. We call KLM & again told that is why we have homeowners insurance. We called a plumber who came out to repair the shower and then had to repair the hole in our living room. I realize the first year builder warranty was up but we shouldn't be having water leaking twice into our home after only a year! I called KLM in the hopes they would work with us & got the brush off. KLM does not stand behind their work or their subs. If you do decide to build with KLM, I suggest getting the best of the best homeowners policy b/c that is their answer to any issues. We would have had 2 water claims in a matter of months so we decided to pay out of pocket so our premiums didn't sky rocket but BUYER BEWARE! If I had to choose again, I would not build with KLM

Our last overall experience with Anderson Tile wasn't good. Quoting was confusing and not…read moreaccurate. Items like tile color and line items were not quoted correctly and had to be redone. While the employees were friendly, communication was poor. We stopped receiving responses from Anderson Tile and found out that this was because the employee we were dealing with left the company. Scheduling wasn't good. The Anderson Tile team did not follow through with the dates that were originally provided to us. Overall installation was fair. There are small areas where caulk is missing around the limestone installed. Some tiles were damaged or defective after install. We were ok with filling those damaged tiles in with mortar but this lessen our opinion of the overall job. Care for our home was poor. The floor area around the fireplace was not covered properly with the end result being minor scarfs and scratches on our wood floor. The leftover mortar used on the fireplace was dumped on the sidewalk leaving it stained. Anderson Tile did come out to clean up the sidewalk but the owner never responded to our concerns about our wood floor. Unfortunately I do not see us using Anderson Tile again after this experience.

They damaged the trim and acted like it was no big deal. The owner doesn't seem to care as he thought all of the sloppy work was good enough. Big mistake in hiring these clowns.

American Floor Covering was recommended to us by Century Tile. We have now used them for our last…read moretwo tile projects. One job was the backsplash for our entire kitchen and the second project was for a tile job for our butler's pantry. They had a quick turnaround with there estimate for us and were able to schedule our work quickly. Their installers showed up on time and were very courteous. They spent extra time the first day reviewing every detail of the project just to make sure they got it right. Their quality of work and attention to detail was excellent. At the end of the day, the installers spent extra time cleaning the area as well as their work area (in our garage) just so we wouldn't track any dust or grout into the house. Both jobs went smoothly and we are very pleased.

Matt was excellent. No pushy sales pitches, no trying to downplay anything, and frankly shocked me by saying the fireplace was fine and usable but needed some exterior work in the future (again, no pushing). We talked about making it gas only and he talked me through that as well. Best of all, he showed us now the thing even works and gave advise on using it. Fantastic!
