We were here on Saturday night, August 22, 2026. There were 5 of us, two couples and a pre-teen. This could have been a 5-Star evening and maybe on another visit it will be, but there was a single drawback that cannot be overlooked, which prevented it from registering a 5 on this night. While seemingly just another steakhouse, it is more. It evidences a decidedly Greek flare and must be run by a Greek family based on several menu items, such as the salad types, use of feta, seafood influences, lemon potatoes, etc. They are not BYOB. Most NJ steakhouses are not. They have a decent and not extravagantly priced wine list with several offerings by the glass. The group started with a variety of cocktails, all of which satisfied and were typically priced for today's environment. Only one glass of wine was ordered, a decent pour of Quilt Cabernet at $25. There were a variety of appetizers ordered, including lobster bisque, crab cakes, tuna tartare, and shrimp arrabbiata. All were top-notch and may have overshadowed the main courses. The main courses were the smaller filet mignon, penne with a chicken filet added, lobster and crab ravioli, and the angry lobster. These were all delicious, but here is where there was a hiccup. There were two lobster offerings that were similarly priced and similarly represented to be based on 1 1/2 pounds of lobster. One was Angry Lobster over linguine and the other was grilled with an asparagus side. While the Angry Lobster over linguine was ordered, a dish that should have had some spiciness as the name indicates, the other lobster dish was brought to the table, the one that was the grilled version with asparagus. When the wait staff was confronted with this error, they at first tried to argue they had actually presented the correct dish. That alone was frankly unforgivable. Really? Admit the error, apologize, fix it, and do it quickly, as everyone else's mains were now on the table. They ultimately took it back and returned with the Angry Lobster. However, not only was it a pretty muted version of spiciness, it was also missing much of the 1 1/2 pounds of lobster. Pretty shameful after first trying to claim the incorrect dish was correct. At least when called on it, the management offered free desserts for the table. However at that point we were not only deflated from this clumsy handling of the lobster entree and just not in the mood, but also pretty full, it was declined. Instead they took 10% off the bill. I thought they simply should have not charged for the lobster, but a 10% discount was about 75% the cost of the lobster and deemed good enough, rather than have a further debate on the matter. With the tip of a now standard base of 18%, which given the screwup seemed more than fair, and the 10% discount, the meal averaged over $100 per person at the table. Pretty typical or even on the low side for a non-BYOB and upscale restaurant. read more

As someone who isn't always comfortable in fine dining atmospheres, Sear House Grill makes high-end dinning FEEL comfortable. Let's talk about crab cakes--the only crab cakes that matter in the game. Excellent texture, grill crisp, and taste. And Sear House doesn't get stingy on you: you get two, well-plated servings. Next highlight: the lamb chops rack. Wow, what a rack. Cooked to perfection, the meat was tender, flavorful, and memorable--quite possibly the best rack I've ever had, and I've had a lot of racks. And lastly, the toasted beets. Truly I hate beets. Full stop. They typically taste like dirt, so when my business colleagues reseed them I immediately thought "this guy loves the waste money". But, I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong. The roasted beets were amazing; something about the roasting process takes away the "dirt" taste and you get a really nice flavor with your healthy vitamins. Mom would be so proud. read more

I had never before heard of this place (despite being the expert epicurean that I sometimes like to pretend that I am) before my oldest friend's girlfriend contacted me and said they were planning a surprise birthday party for my friend. Was I in? Of course. Sear House Grill is located below my least favorite snarl of confusing, dangerous highways and traffic in NJ (namely, where Rt 80, Rt 46 and Rt 23 all interconnect and intertwine), but my drive to the restaurant was relatively easy, coming in on Rt. 46 E., past the Willowbrook Mall, and heading straight down Rt. 23 S. for about a half mile, safely bypassing, for the most part, that agita-inducing traffic. Sear House is located on the right side of the highway, just over the river and a stone's throw away from the AMC theatre in Wayne. (I'm reminded that the Meadowbrook Nightclub used to be a little further down Rt. 23 in Cedar Grove. My father had been there a few times, back in the days when they featured Billie Holiday and Anita O'Day. I remember seeing a picture of Lou Costello enjoying himself there in the company of corrupt Paterson political boss Joe Bozzo. The Meadowbrook was still open when I was a young man, but I never ventured inside, as the concerts they were featuring then usually involved "artists" like Duran Duran, Flock of Seagulls, and Billy Idol. Definitely not my musical "cups of tea." Anyway...) There was valet parking, which I'm not used to, and not entirely comfortable with, but what were my other options? Once inside the restaurant, I was directed to the back "wine room," where the party was to be held. Despite my lack of interior decorating skills, it was, even to this unsophisticated plebeian, a beautiful room. Spacious, with discreetly placed but illuminating lights, it's a perfect place for a surprise party, or any party. Speaking of plebeian, the prices here are definitely for the patrician class, those with much disposable income to spend. Perusing their on-line menu, I noted that onion soup is $15, iceberg wedge salad is $18, a side of hash browns cost $14 (HASH BROWNS!?! Yep..), a cheeseburger is $25, and so forth and so on. Fortunately, everything had been taken care of by those who arranged the party, and guests were able to choose from a fixed menu. After my friend had arrived, and pleasantries had been exchanged among the guests (a group made up of 99.9 % family, and me, although my friend's sister, whom I've known since her infancy, said, "Ed's family," which was nice for an insecure neurotic like me to hear, and very much appreciated), we sat down to appetizers. Shrimp in a kind of glazed sauce, meatballs, calamari, a superlative antipasto platter (I stayed away from the hot peppers and stuck to tomatoes and a thick wedge or 2 of fresh mozzarella). For the main course, or entree, we could choose between steak, chicken parmigiana, and salmon. I thought briefly about steak, but went for the chicken parmigiana instead, and I was glad I did. My plate was served with a sizeable, delicious portion of chicken parmigiana, along with a creamy risotto (I'm not the biggest fan of risotto...generally speaking, I can take it or leave it alone...but the portion I had this particular night was exceptional), and fresh vegetables. Topped off with a velvety carrot cake for dessert. Ample portions of stellar food...what more could 1 ask for? How about an open bar and complimentary "airplane" bottles of Vodka? I stayed away from the alcohol, but the servers kept me in full glasses of water and Coke. I ended with a cup of black coffee to see me through on my drive back home. No alcohol for me to worry about, but I'm not a kid, my stamina is not what it used to be, and I could feel the beginnings of a "food coma" starting to work on me. So... home to bed. Obviously, what I experienced wasn't what 1 might experience walking in off the street with a friend or significant other, but based on what I did experience, this is a 1st-rate restaurant serving delicious, expertly prepared food. Prices are hefty but then the cliche "You pay for what you get" has never been truer than it is these days, unfortunately. For the exorbitant money, you get a 1st-rate dining experience, Even the restrooms were clean, roomy, and private. I do have to note, in passing, that in talking about the whole experience with my friend later on, I mentioned that in the past the open bar would have been an irresistable temptation to the addicted wastrel that I once was. My friend said, "Well, a lot of the young people there did get f"cked up. That friendly young man you were talking to ended up in the bathroom, throwing up." "Ah, well...that's too bad. But...he's young yet." "We were there once, weren't we?" "Yes, we were." Sometimes the memories evoked when we celebrate the milestones we pass by in our often painful, occasionally joyful, journey through life can be very much bittersweet ones. This place ALWAYS delivers on delicious food and friendly, professional service!! It starts with valets who greet you in an upbeat, cordial manner. They are quick to banter if time allows. Upon entering, either Brigen or Dino (mgrs) greet you as friends and are more than accommodating. You can tell they truly love their jobs and take your dining experience seriously. The wait staff, food runners and busboys are all equally as nice. When it comes to the bar staff, nobody does it better than Amanda and Zoie who seem to be there every time we have gone. The food is consistent in quality and prepared perfectly. Steaks are tender and brought out hot, sizzling, and the right temp. Salads, soups, seafood, and pasta dishes are just as good. The shrimp arrabiata is a personal favorite. Been here numerous times and will continue to frequent when looking for a great night out! read more

If you're looking for a great place for lunch I recommend coming here. We have been here before for dinner but the lunch menu and service is amazing. We tried the pre-fixe lunch menu and it was excellent. The filet mignon was delicious so well seasoned and melted like butter. The branzino was spicy enough and so good. I love this place. Form the food to the vibe you're in for a treat. The is a steakhouse 5 mins from my house yet I drive 45 mins to just to eat at Sear. The service is fast and friendly. A very elegant and fine dining experience. The restaurant and bar has a NYC feel that you can now get in NJ (at NYC prices hah) but overall it was a great experience. Started with an old fashioned as we looked through their extensive menu. Ended up trying French onion soup, lobster bisque, calamari, grilled octopus for appetizers. The calamari was outstanding and the soups were really good too. Lotta cheese on the soup but well done. The octopus I enjoyed but definitely a little bit more fishy tasting than the calamari. For entrees, I had the Tomahawk for two, sirloin, scallops, shrimp scampi and seafood linguine (came with red sauce btw). Everything was really good, the steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned very very well. Couldn't complain and honestly the sirloin really surprised me compared to the tomahawk. Sear Grillhouse is absolutely wonderful. The ambience is great upscale vibes -- wonderful cocktails. My guests and I decided not even halfway through the meal that this was the best dinner we have had in a very long time. We each ordered the filet mignon. It came with wonderful mushrooms and onions. We took a side of cream spinach and garlic mashed potatoes. Everything was perfectly done and really seasoned well; and we certainly enjoyed all of it. To start we had the artichokes. Amazing. I've been to Sear before but my latest experience was disappointing to say the least. We started with the seafood tower for two. It looked wonderful but as we began to eat, we noticed all of the shrimp were filthy inside. I was shocked that a restaurant with a raw bar would serve dirty shrimp, especially in a platter that costs almost 100 dollars. We alerted the waiter who apologized and said they would replace the shrimp. Round two of the shrimp were served to us and they were still filthy. At this point I was so turned off by the whole thing. They brought us round three which were finally clean but tasted horrendous. So tough they were barely edible. The real fun part of this whole experience was I overheard the waiter tell someone who seemed to be the manager about our issue and the manager's response was "so? They liked the other stuff." Didn't even apologize or acknowledge, just walked away. The rest of the meal was great however I will not be returning. This experience soured the whole restaurant for me. read more

The food, the drinks, the service, the ambiance. The food is good but the Happy Hour is great thanks to the bartender Amanda who mixes a great drink and remembers people's names and drinks creating a warm family atmosphere . We've eaten there quite a few times with only one or two "off" experience in years past with waiters who never smiled or were attentive. BUT, we have had quite a few like last night where MANNY (the Manager?) greeted us and even waited on us and the night was SUPERB from that point on. He actually remembered small details about how i like my steak and that i love the Lobster Bisque...and we only go there maybe 4x a year (only because of my health issues)! My NY Steak was cooked and delivered PERFECTLY, Pittsburgh, sliced. and on a hot plate. My friend lovedddd her Bronzino again as MANNY fillets it PERFECTLY, never a bone. He really puts his heart into this business!! The Sides were very good. With so many restaurants to choose from, the feeling you have when you leave SEAR, after Manny, is so satisfying. The food and ambience are excellent. They offer a great selection and a variety of options for ordering food from single entrees to two or three for sharing. That includes apps, sides and dessert. ALWAYS makes us feel like we are part of their family. the sliced filet mignon on the bone special i had the other night (recommended by Zoe!) was SPECTACULAR!! I've also had the lamb chops in the past and they are equally as delicious! Zoe also makes sure there are plenty of beers on ice as soon as I arrive. She is by far the best bartender I've ever encountered and I dine out several time a week so I'm well qualified to make such a statement. Overall my night at Sear House was okay. My table ordered an array of steaks and sides as well as a pasta dish. The cacio Pepe was extremely underwhelming and tasted like butter was thrown on it with no care to make an actual sauce. He wanted a good steak, I wanted a great ambiance, and somewhere near our home. Sear gives you all of that!!! We decided to sit at the bar and it was the best decision. Larissa , our bartender, was very attentive, funny, and helpful. It was 90 degrees out and I wanted something refreshing. Our appetizers were the lump crab, shrimp cocktail, and goat cheese encrusted with pistachio. Our entrees , we're equally delicious. My husbands steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Sear is simply one of the finest restaurants in NJ. Their food is excellent and their steaks as good as you would find in the finest steakhouses in NY. We usually visit at least once a week and sit in the bar area. We are usually served by Amanda who is very personable, friendly and efficient. The rest of their staff is also excellent. We have tried many of the menu offerings and have yet to have anything that wasn't excellent. Our favorites include the artichokes and the octopus to start followed by any of the panko crusted tuna, the pork chop Milanese, the scallops and literally any of their steak offerings. The portions are large so we have yet to try any of the desserts. Can't say enough good things about Sear. read more
