Sears is the worst repair company EVER. No wonder Sears went out of business. I called them for a repair on my fridge. The freezer was working great but my fridge was not things cold enough. So the repair man came out, asked me what was going on, went to his truck, got his bag of tools, and with the 15 minutes he was there, check the temp. with an electronic thermometer. Never took out his amp reader, look in the freezer, look or hook anything on the back to check the compressor, just let me know it was the damper fan control. So for $689.00 he ordered the part and would return the following week to put it in. Well, when that day came, the repair man called saying he would not be able to make it today. I told him that was not acceptable. That I was sorry that he was not going to get home till after 6pm, and that I'd need to reschedule, his words not mine, but that I'd been living out of a cooler for almost a month. So he got to my home at about 545pm ish. Was not there more then 30 minutes, did nothing more then replace the damper control. And left. When in the next week my milk went bad again, with a few other things. So I tried call someone back, I called the repair guy and he said I have to go through the office. But AGAIN...... any number I tried it was all automated. And getting a person, much less the automated to tell me if I be charged again was with no avail. So now I have a fridge that STILL DOES NOT WORK, but a bill of $689.00 paid on my credit card. So I filled a dispute with the CC company. The CC company only refunded me $226.00 and said the rest would have to be taken care of with the vender. I received an email from them, stating, that if I returned the part in its original box and condition, they'd make it good and refund my money. So that's what I did. Part shipped better then it came and returned on my dime. As of today's date, I have not received my remaining$467.00. Sears you suck. Your service sucks, your customer service sucks, and your honor suck. So with this review, and the help of the BBB, let's see if we can put the rest of Sears out of business. Fix ice maker. After two ice makers installed in my refrigerator, it is doing the same thing. It's not freezing the ice and is leaking water into my refrigerator from the ice maker and eventually on to my floor. I have note heard from anyone, after calling three days ago. WHen the service person came last week he walked into and through my home as if he lived here. He was clearly very annoyed with something and was just rude. He did not have the part he needed to fix my washer and very rudely told me that he had ordered it and NOT to use my washer until it was fixed, then he just took off without a word (that I could hear). He left me feeling like I had been bullied and I felt that way all day and did not sleep well that night. Today when the same service person called me at 0734 to rudely ask if I had receivedd the part for the washer. I told him that I had not received it but that I had received a notice last week that the part had arrived. THe notice did not say where the part had been delivered too. He told me in a rude tone "well if you don't have the part then there is no sense of us coming out today". I again informed him that I had received notice last week that the part had been delivered. He said that he would look for it and let me know. My heart sank because I had a week's laundry stacked up waiting for the washer to be repaired. He called me back and said that he had foung the part and that hee was on the way to my house. This call was at 0736~. I was sound asleep when the first call came in because the notice for service says 0800 to 1700. WHen he got here this time he was not rude and fixed my machine quickly. When I offered a bottle of water he replied "oh, why not. I thought that this was an odd response and I feared that some rude behavior would be coming, but no more rude behavior was apparent today. WHen he was out the door I shouted to him to ask if he had taken the old part with him and he shouted back that I was required to keep that part for 90 days before getting rid of it. I am blind and 75 years old; please do not allow this person to deal with older people because he may scare them as well." read more

I recently bought a home which came with a complementary 1-year home appliance warranty by AHS and honestly didn't think much about it at the time. Only until last week when my washer completely died on me (didn't spin, didn't drain) that I was in an oh shi* mode and reached out to AHS to get my promised warranty service. AHS charged me a mandatory $100 net per service call (which I obliged)...assigned my warranty case to Sears and it proved to be well worth it for me! On the day of, Sears technician called me before his arrival and came to my home soon after. I told him about the problem with my washer. The service person took a quick check and knew right away what the problem was! He was friendly through it all and helped educate me about the washer machine. Initially, I was doubtful whether this service would be worthwhile but the assigned service person was so courteous, he helped answer my questions, assured me of the problem, the condition of my washer machine and whether it would be better for me to fix or to buy a new one..and I learned a little bit more things about what a homeowner should know during the 30-40 min that he got right into fixing my washer! Overall, given such a friendly, polite and super efficient service, I highly recommend using Sears for appliance repair again. It's probably better if you have a warranty program with them/other warranty services who utilize Sears so you don't have to cough up too much expenses last min. For me, with an outgoing warranty service call with AHS for $100 vs the actual service charge of $300 ($50 for parts and $200ish for labor service..excluding taxes) ...this warranty service was well worth it for me! Thank you Sears for being on time and very efficient with the repair! Honestly, aside from reading all the horrible experiences people had with them...I might be one of the lucky ones out there re: my experience with them I'm not sure if I purchased an appliance (they no longer have physical appliance store in ABQ, so that's not a possibility!) or a warranty service directly from Sears, it would be a different experience. But given the experience I had through AHS (which contracted with Sears home services, my first experience with them went well and pretty efficient). Now I actually am quite happy to have my fresh laundry done at home again! read more

I was pleased that I got a call early telling me when to expect him to arrive. I didn't feel like he really tried to figure out what was wrong. He moved the tub, looked underneath VERY briefly and then scanned the bar code on the machine. I was told it would be $800 just in parts In less than 5 minutes. He didn't really tell me what was wrong. He didn't spend any time evaluating it enough to know if there were parts that were still good. Was this just the price for a rebuild? I would have given a five star rating the day I ordered these parts, but found out that I was mislead/deceived. I found the part I ordered on another website for less. Royality told me they would honor that price, which was considerably less ($48.xx) verses ($61.xx) your price. The issue with our gas dryer not drying the laundry is still an issue. The so called work did nothing to fix the problem. This is totally unacceptable. The cost of the service diagnosis and non effective repair was a waste of money. The technician did not do a thorough follow through in his diagnosis. He described what the error code was but, never went further to find the cause of the problem. You should send a different technician to do what should have been done the first time. As a customer of Sears over many decades this issue is the second time I've had a problem. Yes, I am upset and now it is up to your company to fix the problem. Please respond. this is the absolute worst customer service I have ever received. I called Sears originally after calling somebody out to look at my refrigerator. When calling Sears they said my refrigerator was under warranty for parts, and I would just have to pay for labor (they stayed at national average was $300 for repairs) when the man came over he said my refrigerator was not under warranty and I would have to pay the part and labor which is almost $1400 . What a scam. I had already told them what was wrong with my refrigerator and they knew the model number and all of my information since I purchased it through them, etc. So they charged me $100 to come out and tell me what I already knew. The technician gave me price of $653 for heating element repair for Samsung dryer. I asked what price of parts and what is for labor. He refused to discuss details with me. His response was "I don't know. That's how we work". I called different repair company, provided by Samsung customer service and got $120 for labor and $40-60 for heating element itself. Service tech was knowledgeable and helpful in the end but seemed very angry from the second we met. I'm not sure what i did to upset him or if he was upset from his previous work before me, but he didn't calm down until my roommate came out of her room because she could hear how he was talking to me and was worried. I have been abused and assaulted in my past, and inviting a stranger into my home is really difficult for me. It would be nice if it didn't feel so hostile to begin with. I've been paying for a service agreement with Sears for 6+ years covering washers and dryers in 2 homes. Rarely needed service. Now that I do need service, I can't get a return call or schedule an appt. because Sears Service says there's 'no technician' available. Dozens of calls over 3 weeks to Sears Service has been ignored, and when I can find someone to talk to, I'm told there's not technician available. Then I'm told that Sears will just replace the washer, but they provide no details, follow-up, schedule...N OTHING. They just dodge and weave despite the fact that we've paid Sears thousands of dollars to maintain this Service Agreement, and now Sears just seems to ignore its responsibility to provide the service we've paid for. read more

Then a month later get another bill from Sears saying our card didn't process even though I go online to my account and it was processed the day after repair. I'd give this place and their warranty system 0 stars. Be First you pay for the first service and they offer you a credit. I have yet to see that credit. I paid to have have my dryer repaired because a light that shouldn't come on, came on. It was the light to say the vent system was plugged up. We had another professional company come out and clean the entire vent system they even put a camera and allowed us to view the vent system to make sure that there were no clogs or dead rodents or anything of the sort in the vent system-twice, just to make sure we weren't missing anything. So it meant a possible sensor in the dryer, right? We called for service from Sears, they sent out A & E to come and look and Ralph, (the first technician) said it was a sensor but since our warranty that I had paid for hadn't technically started until the beginning of the following month, that we just needed to pay for his service (that meant I paid the $50 for the warranty and whatever additional for his time to come out) for that day because the sensor was going to cost about $300 (he even looked up the part and price) and that was for the part only not including the additional service fee. He advised us to wait until we were fully in our warranty to call back and make a new call and closed the ticket as repaired. This was after he told me, a woman, that we were using the wrong setting on the dryer. That we only needed to use timed dry and not the other options that were on the dryer. He also changed his tune after he spoke with my father, he was more willing to work with him than with me. Time passes the dryer was still doing the same thing AND had started to stop spinning. My dryer is a newer model and in the 5 years that I've gambas it I've NEVER had to manually turn the drum to get it going. To most technicians this would mean that the motor is seizing up, but the next technician that came out, Henry, turned the drum manually and said it was fine and the light, he ran the dryer not connected to the vent system and also said it was fine. He even called Ralph to inquire about the sensor that he had told us to order and Ralph denied the conversation. Not to mention, Henry also told me that I only needed to run the dryer in timed dry only mode and not use the other setting because it gets too hot. Well dang, I like dry clothes not mildly dry clothes. Both technicians were rude and very condescending, I may look young but I am quite experienced with doing my laundry and did not appreciate being told that I didn't know how to dry my clothes nor how the dryer worked. When I called to speak to their manager I got a run around from the customer service department with a ticket to have their manager call me back in 24-48 hrs. Twice. I'm not holding my breath waiting for them to call back. It's been a couple of weeks and still no calls. read more

Talk about a nightmare. I had a "handyman" come to my house to diagnose my leaking washing machine. I agreed with his diagnosis and gave him money for the part. Low and behold I never saw him again. So I contacted Sears (Kenmore Elite washing machine that originally came from Sears). I explained my problem and just asked for a quote on the repair. They said they had to send out a tech to confirm the problem and then he could give me an estimate. I didn't really want to pay a diagnostic fee since I already knew what was wrong, but they assured me the fee would be waived as long as I had the issue fixed. The tech did come, confirmed the issue within a matter of seconds and then gave me a quote for $450. He agreed it's no more than a 30-minute job but he claimed that is the minimum for a Sears repair. So I was stuck paying the $117 diagnostic fee for nothing! I'm just buying a brand new unit and going to forget Sears exists. I suppose this may be why the store went out of business. read more

I was told that Sears charged $99.00 for a service call which would be applied toward any repair. When the repair invoice was reviewed I noticed that the $99.00 was not present in the bill of $287.47 it should have been listed as a bill for $387.47 minus $99.00 applied to the bill. When I asked about this I was told that that was the way Sears did their billing. I was then asked if I wanted to join a Sears Home warranty Program for a yearly charge of between $600-$840. I declined the repair, the Sears Home warranty and paid the $99.00 service charge. Sears should clearly list their specific invoice charges and credits to accurately reflect their actual business practices. Not good. read more

Technician arrived on time but quoted a much higher price than was quoted on phone to do a very simple job. If we refused the higher price and did nothing, we would have had to pay a service fee of over $100. Felt like "bait and switch" and highway robbery!! Called 800# while technician was on site to get answers but person on phone put us on hold and then disconnected us. Also the people on the phone are very hard to understand with their thick accents. Horrible service. They've come out to our house at least 10 times the last year and still won't just let us get a new appliance even though we have the extended warranty that covers this. They sent out a contractor who didn't even know what they were doing, were rude, wouldn't tell us what was going on with our freezer [said they couldn't tell us any details]. Sears ended up sending an actual sears person to check the freezer since they wouldn't take the word of the person they sent out.
