This is one of (if not THE) best restaurant in Southern Illinois. Starting with The service. It's always fantastic, this time was no exception. Then you get to the food. From the salmon to the filet, it's exceptional. The Cesar salad I had to start was the finest one I've had in the 618. The steak only elevated the experience. The perfect medium rare, topped with a bacon jam that was amazing and only complimented the steak. Finished with the creme brûlée the meal was superb. I have been planning a trip with my 2 sister's for a few weeks. I am very familiar with the area, but i haven't been here in years. I yelped area restaurants to see where we could get a descent meal and was very surprised to see this place with great reviews. So I had to go and to my surprise I was not disappointed. The food was great the server was excellent. We all ordered different meals and desserts and had a tasting of each. Sorry but I can't remember the names. My partner and I were looking for a well-priced spot for a quick lunch on the drive back home from Memphis to Chicago. We found this spot thanks to Yelp. The bistro is located in an adorable town square and the town's ambience continues into the restaurant, where it is paired with rustic decor. A waitress greeted us as soon as we stepped inside; she was kind and attentive throughout our meal. The menu is well-organized making it easy to pick a meal depending on the size of your appetite. I ordered the bistro salad with a grilled portobella mushroom. The mushroom was grilled well and had a nice, savory flavor. The vegetables were crisp and everything else was on point. The salad was well-dressed so if you're not a huge fan of lots of dressing, I'd recommend asking for it on the side. I also ordered a sweet tea and it was good. My partner ordered the Cheeseburger with bacon and sweet potato fries. He said they were good. The fries were crisp and the Chipotle ranch they came with had a lovely smoky, peppery flavor and no spice. The bathrooms were easy to find and very clean. We will definitely bookmark this spot for another visit in the future. read more

This establishment deserves five stars because in a small, sleepy Illinois town, it's striving to cook fresh food from scratch. AND they had a couple decent vegetarian meal options (I had sweet potato tacos.) BOTH of the two soup specials were vegetarian (!) and I enjoyed the cream of mushroom (with fresh rosemary.) As important as the quality of the food, it saved us from the fast food plight of traveling. The pricing is reasonable and they even accommodated my (very picky) mother with a plain grilled chicken and fries. House-made ice cream with chocolate and caramel sauce ended our experience well. I have been to Seasoning many time in the past, one of my favorite places. BUT was soooo disappointed in the food tonight. When you pay $50.00 for an 8oz steak and it was so salty that I had to send back only to receive another one so mealy that I thru in the trash. When I booked reservation I explained for 60th birthday and wedding....nothing was done or said. Hard to get service.. I know it is difficult times, I work in healthcare! Hope things get better, will not be back for awhile if ever. read more

Really nice place on Benton Square. Parking can be a challenge, but it's worth it, and no different than for any other business on the square. I had the special, Korean Shrimp - very nice. My wife said the chicken piccata was outstanding, and I highly recommend the roast cauliflower side. Sides are ala carte, but included in the price. I wish I had seen the wine/beer list before I ordered my drink - beer and wine aren't listed on the main menu, and the list is on a small sandwich board on the table. Both lists are short but have something for most tastes (i.e. they have Sam Adams and at least one nice dessert white). Service was good, but inconsistent speed-wise - fast at first to bring drinks, salads, and bread, but entrées took longer than I expected. Desserts came quickly as well - I can recommend the creme brulee (with table side sugar torching ), but the southern caramel cupcake was dry. All in all, a very nice meal, reasonable price for the level of cuisine, and definitely worth a return trip. read more

My husband and I just ate at Seasoning Bistro and our lunch was delicious! We had the chicken cordon bleu soup and split the blackened fish taco. Both were homemade with very fresh ingredients. Our waitress encouraged us to try the crème brûlée which was the perfect finish. The prices were reasonable and the waitress was very friendly and observant. When she realized that we were traveling she brought me a large water to take with me. I wish we had Seasoning Bistro in our small town in South Carolina, for we'd be regular customers. read more

Drove through Benton, IL and found this place. It was so delicious! They handled the COVID crisis nicely and brought our food to our car after we called ahead. The food was phenomenal - I got the portabello stuffed mushroom and the buffalo cauliflower. My friend got a burger and absolutely loved the garlic sauce. My only complaint is that they forgot to add silverware to our bag, but we made do. Wish I could come back! read more

Wow. I asked a local and he said he didn't like it at all because he likes fried food, gravy and biscuits. That was enough to send us to Seasonings and it was wonderful. I had the best piece of Alaska salmon ever and we eat it often. The asparagus was crisp and perfectly cooked as were the green beans with bacon. Our server was very attentive and thorough. The diners said hello when we walked in. The wine was good and we even had dessert which we usually skip. Creme brûlée flamed at the table. I certainly did not expect to find such a very nice restaurant in Benton! Decor is a little shabby chic, they do take reservations and will ask about that at the door. (Could use a little better customer service there.) Dining room on the ground level and another one upstairs, we were downstairs. Food: Great! He had the Kobi Beef Burger -- perfectly cooked and served with a black garlic mayo that was amazing! Side was the Italian mashed potatoes; they "dress up" the potatoes with different spices regularly. I had the Tropical Salmon special: 8 ounces of salmon, cooked perfectly to medium and served with a tropical salsa of pineapple and mango and I don't know what else. It was delightful, meat was moist and perfectly cooked, that salsa was an amazing accompaniment. Garlic / herb rice was my side, it was just okay, but did not pair very well with that wonderful salmon. Side salad with delicious Ranch dressing and fresh rolls started our meal. We finished with dessert: Red Velvet Cheesecake Cupcake for him and Creme Brûlée for me, prepared table side. Both were wonderful! Service was good; very attentive, but not over the top. Not a good first impression! Walked in at 5:50 to a half empty restaurant and were asked if we had a reservation. We didn't know we needed one and were just passing through, I told the young lady. Okay, guess it's popular, however we even offered to wait until 6:05 to see if all reservations showed. (They obviously didn't at 5 or 5:30) However, were told we could make a reservation for 7:30!? My hubby had scallops & he raved about the relish that came with it my 85 year old aunt said "this is the best steak I have ever eaten in my whole life!" All of the food is delicious. I've never had anything on the menu that wasn't amazing. When it comes to regular menu food the chicken Marsala with green beans is my go-to. Anything steak or salmon with bacon jam is the weekend special, it's a must. The raspberry chocolate mini cheesecakes are the best dessert I've ever had in my life and the Oreo macarons are worth a trip to seasonings on their own. They are very helpful when it comes to takeout and they have great dipping sauces when it comes to their appetizers. I have gone here for Valentine's Dinner and on a random day for casual lunch, and it was absolutely wondeful both time. I have to start by admitting a bit of a bias. I've known the owners for awhile as a result of having worked with them at a previous business. Now that that's out of the way, let's talk about Seasoning. The food here is far and away the *best* I've had in a 50 mile radius. This is including Mary's, Legends, and Tom's Place. Another thing to consider is how affordable it is. For similar type meals (steaks, pork chops, whatever the special of the day is), you'll pay about half of what you would at the aforementioned places. The other night, I had a salad, two glasses of sangria, a 16 oz. steak, risotto, tomato soup, and a dessert, and spent only $40 ($10 of which was a tip because my server was incredibly friendly). The steak was cooked perfectly (super-rare, for reference, as I had ordered it), juicy, seasoned nicely, and probably a couple ounces above what was advertised. The soup (tomato basil bisque, which you MUST try if they have it that day) was creamy and delicious. The risotto was expertly prepared with a fantastic flavor. The dessert, donuts with fresh berries and a blackberry blood-orange reduction was delicious. Next time I'll go with the creme brulee, which is crazy amazing, and induced jealousy in everyone at my booth when the orderer ate it. Another great part of Seasoning is that the staff NEVER makes you feel unwelcome. There is no dress code and you'll be seated and treated just as well if you're wearing holey acid-wash jeans as if you are wearing a tuxedo. If you show up on a slow night, the owners will come out and talk to you, seeing if they can customize your meal in any way. I would suggest getting reservations on any night, but definitely on the weekends, as they have a pretty small establishment. Table turnover doesn't take a long time, but if you have other plans, it wouldn't hurt to have them save one for you. read more

EXCELLENT gem of a restaurant in a small town. Totally unexpected, but we are happy we stumbled upon this great find. Our extended family (8 adults, 3 kids) ate here this past weekend for a family dinner. Everyone was happy with their food. It was obviously made from scratch, no pre-prepared crap food here! The rolls were not something I usually indulge in, but these were homemade & freshly baked. Served with soft butter - absolutely worth it! I had the salmon with a lemon/green onion sauce and the broccoli and green beans. All of it was excellent. My husband had a steak, Cesar salad and broccoli. The desserts were too tempting to pass up. He opted for the bananas foster and I went for the creme' brulee. The creme brulee was large and delicious! The service was excellent as well. All of our food came out in a timely manner and at the same time (which can be tough for larger parties). It was truly a dining experience we'll remember. If I'm ever in Benton, we'll be sure to stop back by Seasonings. If you're in the area, give it a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

Such a fabulous restaurant in small town Southern Illinois. Definitely worth the trip off Interstate 57. We visited for lunch. The pastrami sandwich was amazing. Wonderfully thin slices of meat with a delicious grainy mustard on a delicious, grilled bread. The chicken sandwich with melty cheese on focaccia bread was outstanding. My family and I stayed at Seasons At Rend Lake and came back to the Bistro twice while in town as it was highly recommended. We came on a Thursday (downstairs)and Saturday (upstairs) and service was great both times. Between us we had Bistro Pasta, Chicken Piccata, Tortellini, Flank Steak, Shrimp & Grits and Creme Brûlée's that were all excellent. The Roasted Cauliflower was one of our favorites! It was my sisters birthday weekend, the service was awesome (even with 12 people) and food was delicious!! Thank you for some great memories! read more

The reviews on Seasoning were right on... Very good food, not what you expect at all in a small southern Illinois town (and I'm from this area). On par with most good restaurants elsewhere. The soup, roll, and dinner were spot on GOOD. I bet my friend she could just eat 1/4 of the dinner roll and butter it was so good. Waitress was awesome and on top of it. The space needs work and an upgrade on silverware would help immensely, but I wouldn't trade quality of food for ambiance. The owners apparently just bought the building and are remodeling so that should improve. read more
