In April 2025, my 6-year-old son received treatment at Sea star Pediatric Dentistry with Dr. Cherish Leung. We were referred to her by our primary family dentist. Before treatment, I specifically asked for the total cost and was told what my out-of-pocket responsibility would be after billing both my insurance and my husband's insurance. Over two appointments, I paid an amount that we believed that was the full amount owed. Months later, I was informed that I owed an additional $900+ because the original amount was "only an estimate." While I understand estimates can change, a discrepancy of more than $900 is not a small difference. Had I known the actual cost, I would have had the opportunity to make a more informed decision regarding my child's treatment in her office. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What was most frustrating was my attempt to discuss the matter with Dr. Leung directly. Office staff informed me that Dr. Leung does not speak with patients regarding concerns.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parents deserve transparency about the cost of their child's care before treatment is performed. This is long overdue. I'm surprised I didn't write a review but I know I told everyone I knew to come here. I just wanted to write it now because the dental office we go to now just amplifies how much more superior in service and quality Seastar is. It was only due to the fact that Delta Dental was not serving Seastar that we left this amazing dental office. My son who is now five. He had a great experience first experience and any other ones he had later. They caught and confirmed that he had a lip and tongue tie -- our pediatrician noticed it as well. That is when we decided to get those both taken care of here. Both were taken care of quickly and kindly. We did have a lapse for a year due to having delta dental as our insurance, But after going to another pediatric dentist nearby ( who had great reviews) I now know that seastar is the best. We had such a wonderful experience with Dr. Cherish. She treated my daughter's tongue-tie, lip-tie, and cheek tie, and was incredibly patient throughout the process. 12/2/22 squeeze in visit. I connected with Dr. Cherish a few days prior regarding my daughters new tooth that came in. Baby tooth did not want to move and we lost the room to wiggle. Every time I tried, my daughter would wince in pain. It was time to have a professional handle it. The office was able to squeeze my daughter in due to the pain at the end of the week. It was her first extraction. I prepped my daughter through the week so she couldn't be as afraid. We arrived, staff provided a warm welcome. Filled out the consent forms for tooth extraction and headed on back. The dental assist walked my daughter through. Put on a movie. Let her choose a pink nose and started the happy gas. Dr. Cherish soon arrived, took a look and said we will need to do some local. She made sure my daughter was comfortable and even noticed her long hair was kind of cramped under her back. She freed it and my daughter looked less tense. Dr. kept my daughters attention and let her know what she was doing each step of the way. One turn. Two turn. Three turn, OUT! They stayed with my daughter for some time longer until he laughing has wore off some and she could feel her feet. Then, it was pick a prize time and otter pop time. I have a 5 year old daughter and 3 year old son and have been coming here for roughly 3/4 years. Dr. Cherish, Dr Nguyen and Mrs. Joanne, the Myofunctional therapist are phenomenal, along with all their dental technicians and most of the front receptionist. The dentist office is very kid friendly and staff typically goes above and beyond to make the kids feel comfortable. While I don't like posting a negative comment, today's visit left my son feeling sad. And it left me feeling pretty disappointed and upset. He came in to see Joanne, the Myofunctional therapist, which is a hefty $1600 for 6 sessions. She was great as always. However, upon scheduling the next session for my son, the front receptionists Kimberly was not nice. She scheduled his appointments and at the end of each visits he's used to getting a toy, which they are usually great about doing. I told him how do you ask nicely... and he shyly asked. To which she gave a response in a condescending tone, "what are you saying?" So I asked for him and she said toys are only for dental cleanings. However, this is not true because the first two sessions with this Myofunctional therapist they've given him a toy both times! So, he walked away with his head down sad. However, what upset me was when I looked back disappointed, she was laughing at his reaction. To me this is entirely unacceptable behavior and a form of bullying. To deny a child a free toy and laugh about him being sad is beyond unprofessional. He's been through a lot with his tongue tie which contributes to his sleep apnea. They did a sleep study on him and he's possibly considering having his tonsils removed. But I wanted to be conservative and go this route. When surveys come from their office I'm the first to give all 10s. But unfortunately not today. I turned his disappointment around by making play doh for him at home. So while there was a happy ending, I'm hoping Kimberly learns how to empathize. May God still bless her. Update: Dr. Cherish personally gave me a call back and expressed genuine concern. She listened to what happened and empathized. She apologized and said the toy policy had changed and they were going to implement a different reward system for Myofunctional therapy patients. Highly recommend Dr. Cherish! She is always so nice and has amazing staff. Everyone is so warm and welcoming. And the office is so cute and kid friendly! She is so knowledgeable and such a leader in her field, and because of that, she was able to help my newborn. My newborn had issues with swallowing too much air when feeding due to irregular latch and SO much milk would spill out of his mouth. He would drench his bibs within just a few minutes of feeding because he was constantly spitting up and couldn't latch onto the bottle properly for milk. He also seemed to be very uncomfortable all the time due to all the air that was probably trapped in his tummy. So, I took him to Dr. Cherish to check for lip/tongue tie, which he ended up having both. She was so knowledgeable and patient while I decided if I wanted to move forward with the treatment. The treatment was very quick and she was so gentle! It was so worth it! We are so grateful for Dr. Cherish because these issues decreased DRASTICALLY after this treatment and I am so grateful! I will definitely be taking him back for his regular dental appointments when he is a little older. So grateful for this office. Thank you Dr. Cherish!!! read more

But look no further for a pediatric dentist because Dr. Cherish truly is the best. Dr. Cherish is that fun auntie that makes every visit special and exciting. She is professional, efficient, and engages with your kid. I love that she also provides a roadmap of her process before each procedure to your kid (so they know what to expect). She's so good at what she does. My daughter had to come in to get a cavity filled and Dr. Cherish demonstrated the tools gently on her finger to show how it feels and sounds so she isn't alarmed or surprised by what was to come. She was so happy to receive a toy after. The office is clean, refreshing, and decorated modern California coastal. The staff is professional and friendly. Seastar, unfortunately, doesn't accept my insurance anymore. We love Dr. Cherish so much that we're paying out-of-network. Dr. Cherish had referred one of my son to a specialist (because he had a mouth breathing issue that could lead to bacteria) and when that particular specialist read that Dr. Cherish was the referring doctor, the specialist noted that Dr. Cherish is really good about catching things other dentist don't. I am not in the medical field so I don't know all the terms but when the specialist noted that about Dr. Cherish it was reassuring. This is a long overdue review! I found Seastar on Yelp last year and decided to make a consult for a some work my son needed done that our previous dentist was not able to do. My son ended up having to get dental surgery done and the staff was amazing at helping me get that figured out. Communication was top notch! Whether it was via email or phone, they made sure all my questions and concerns were answered (insurance, costs, etc). Dr Cherish did an amazing job with the procedure and was very good at alleviating any anxiety and concerns before she even started. Anyway, it was an easy decision to switch their dental care to this dentistry. Dr Paulina is amazing. She's been seeing my son since his surgery for his routine visits . All of the staff here is kind, positive environment, empathetic and overall such a welcoming place. They also have a section full of toys that the kiddos get to choose from after their visit! We visited Dr. Cherish with our newborn as she had both a lip and tongue tie. Dr. Cherish and her office were so warm and welcoming, and Dr. Cherish did thorough evaluations prior to recommending a lip/tongue tie release. She also answered all our questions and recommended additional providers (OT, Chiropractor) to help with our daughter's feeding issues. She worked in lock step with the additional providers and we feel so lucky to have found Dr. Cherish. We are incredibly happy with the results from our daughter's frenectomy. We sincerely appreciated her conservative approach to the care plan for our daughter and look forward to returning to the office once our daughter has teeth! read more

I have been taking my girls (now 12 and 5) to Dr. Cherish for the last few years and each time they go they leave with a smile on their face. My five year old will randomly say out of nowhere that she wants to go to the dentist and the other day she literally said she wishes she could live at the dentist LOL. The staff does a great job making the space very inviting, they're so gentle on their gums during cleaning and make each step of the process fun. Having people's hands in your mouth with tools feels very scary and invasive, but they do a great job distracting the kids! The movies help a lot and the girls love the prizes at the end. I also want to say that my 15 month old had a successful frenectomy thanks to the expertise of Dr. Cherish. I was very hesitant and nervous about this procedure, but it went better than I expected. Not all dentists provide frenectomies so if your child needs it done, I highly recommend you take him/her to Dr. Cherish. It was so quick and within minutes after the procedure my son took his bottle and ate the same day. I know this won't be the case with every child regardless of how successful their frenectomy was, but either way, they will be in good hands! Thank you, Seastar!! read more
