With careless prudence, I watched some YouTubes and attempted to retrieve the data myself (I even used a magnetic bit on the screws) - FAIL! My wife was in a panic and I was in whatever is beyond the dog house. When I saw that Ace had a Seattle location, I liked the idea of hand-delivering my precious drive (the first place I found was in Canada). I called Ace and was told to ship it to their Texas location since that is where their clean room is located. I appreciated their upfront reasonable/competitive pricing, and sense that they had a team who knew what they were doing and who were capable of salvaging our digital memories. So, I trusted my failed drive to FedEx with the maximum allowable insurance. Ace let me know when they received it, e-mailed me with their findings and their plan. I called the technician to discuss/confirm the plan. Ultimately, Ace recovered EVERYTHING and sent our data back to us on a new external hard drive (and included our old one as well)! I was a little miffed that they sent it USPS with only $50 insurance, but then learned that they keep the electronic data for 5 days in case something goes wrong in the return shipment. BRILLIANT! I don't plan to ever need their services again, but if I do, Ace is the place!

I came in because the Yelp page says free estimates and I wanted to figure out how much it would cost for them to replace my WiFi card. I had an issue with one of my laptops hinges where part of the plastic is sticking out in the bottom right corner of the monitor because the hinge is partially broken. When the employee and I are talking I say that I'm not here to get the hinge fixed, the employee says it'll get worse, and while we're talking he pulls on the plastic that was sticking out, pulling it out farther than it's ever been for no reason. He also informed me that estimates were not free because I had an internal issue, and that an estimate would cost $99. I left. I couldn't see it well from my angle at the time, but after getting home I see that the hinge problem is much worse and now I have to consider going somewhere else in the hopes that wherever I go next will not damage my laptop to get more money out of me.

Fine at first BUT a week in I started to experience problems: 1. Camera condensation on both lenses-- my phone was not near any water at work and there was fogging in my camera from the inside. Over time internal corrosion as a result and my phone wouldn't turn on. I NEVER had this issue PRIOR to this repair so WHY are you blaming the customer? 2. Flickering screen-- LCD problem. TELL ME why am I having this already after a recent screen replacement? Paid $50 and took it to a repair shop in Auburn after my phone won't turn on and they said whoever fixed your phone did a CHEAP job and they should do customer service recovery because 1. It wasn't sealed properly and a cheap adhesive was used. and 2. Cheap quality LCD used during replacement. While they offered 250 to repair they thought it'd be more cost efficient for me to pursue service recovery with the original shop. Their customer service was LAUGHABLE: only fix the screen for 209! I rather pay more and get it done at a place that was more honest and less shady! Better yet maybe just get a used phone because the cost is almost as much as my repair.The auburn location even offered a better price if I did choose to pursue them too. HORRIBLE repair and AWFUL customer service!

A little over a week ago, my cat decided to water test my laptop. Long story short, a glass of water spilled into (!) my laptop. The laptop sat immersed in this pool of water for nearly 20 hours. Everything was complete toast. Although most of my files are in the cloud, especially the most important ones, I decided there might be the occasional file or folder that I might not notice tomorrow or even a year from now. I decided it would be best to retrieve the contents of the drive on the laptop for peace of mind. I left the laptop with them to do an assessment first. That assessment was ~$80. After their assessment, they indicated that the contents of the drive were retrievable and gave me an estimate of $400 to retrieve the contents of the drive (the $80 would apply to that figure). I decided it was worth the cost, if for nothing more than that elusive peace of mind. I also needed a drive to put the contents on (or provide my own). Since I didn't have one, and didn't want to bother with purchasing a 3rd party drive, they charged me $140 for a Toshiba Portable Storage device. So, for about $600 (w/ tax) I got everything off the lost drive. Was it worth it? Without a doubt. Would I go back? Hell yeah.

My point was, and continues to be, that whoever answered my call was intentionally unhelpful. Martin knows exactly who Rain City is, and knew who I was looking for. When they first split off the retail business, they were going to keep the Progressive Tech name. Then, due to some issues between them, they had to change to Rain City. Martin apparently still harbors a grudge, hence he refuses to refer any retail business to them. An honest answer would have been, "Yes, the people who used to handle retail repairs here did start a new business on Lake City Way, you're looking for Rain City Tech." An honest response to my review would have been "Sorry we played dumb and pretended not to know what you were asking, we should have just given you Rain City's new name."

Inside, there were large screens posting info about their vast services (don't judge them about the extra "L" in the word "follow"--they're going to fix it. It's not nearly as noticeable as when a Chinese menu has the word "shrimps" on it.) I was greeted by Charles, who looked very smart--and not just because he was wearing glasses. I told him about my dilemma--my new Hans Solo in carbonite case didn't protect my phone from a fall and phone back itself cracked. I attribute it to the fact that Hans was in carbonite. If his hands and legs were free, I'm sure Hans would have been able to shoulder-roll onto the floor. After some entertaining banter, I left Hans in good hands with Charles. I was given an initial quote and an ETA. He even called me partway through to tell me that he tested my phone parts in other phones and other parts into my phone to see if he could isolate the issue. Awesome. I was just thinking he would see the part was broken and replace it--but he went above and beyond at no initial cost. When he called later, he sounded apologetically grim: My motherboard was damaged. The motherboardin' motherboard. A death sentence to something replaceable like an iPhone. Apple had told me that my phone could be upgraded for $150 (but I'm waiting for the Fiiiiiiiiiive!) so I'm going to wait until I can't tolerate not talking on the phone. This may be a good time for me to work on my ESP skills anyways. Even more amazing, my final bill was less than HALF the original quote that I was given. And it wasn't the lower bill that blew me away, it was the goodwill behind it. I felt the love *fist pump* So in conclusion, this is the place to be.
