They have Vietnamese snacks, desserts, and banh mi. I got the bbq pork baby mi. It was just okay, I wasn't amazed by it but I wouldn't say it's the best banh mi. We ordered the BBQ pork bánh mì, shrimp and lotus root salad, and the bahn bot loc (tapioca dumplings), and everything was delicious. The food is always authentic, fresh, and made with care. We've been here a few times before but thankgoodness they are open on christmas eve! We stopped in for 3 banh mi sandwiches, nem neung meatballs and 2 egg rolls. Their banh mis are super heavy, full with fillings. The ingredients are fresh and sandwiches are made to order. The service is pretty fast and friendly. Decent banh mi here. Average filled - would prefer a bit higher filling to bread ratio, but it's not bad. Had some very dry pieces of pork in the pork banh mi but overall decent. Tofu in the banh mi was seasoned well. Service was quick. Note that they charge you a service fee if you pay card so cash is definitely preferred by them. There is NO seating inside so make a note to yourself that this is only a to go spot. We ended up eating in our car because we didn't know haha. They have some other deli items here like Vietnamese dumplings, rice, egg rolls and dessert. I tried the Che and it was unfortunately the worst Che I've ever had and had to toss it. The banh mi is stuffed and the jalapeño gives it a kick without making it overwhelming, egg rolls are crispy and tastes flavorful, and pate chaud is perfectly flaky while having a good peppery flavor on the pate. Owner used to be friendly. He is now very rude. I'm vegetarian and ask for the sandwich maker to change her gloves. Owner snapped at me that they always change gloves. Not true. I saw her handle meat for 1 sandwich and then handle tofu for my sandwich using same gloves. If you are vegetarian you understand what I'm talking about. I love their tofu banh mi and have been getting it for years but this is the second time he has snapped at me. Pissed me off. They lost my business. So vegetarians...don't go there. read more

My family has been coming to this place for the Signature BBQ Pork sandwich for many years. This place is take-out only, no eating-in. They also carry many other varieties of snacks and food. Stopping by Seattle Deli this morning, Wednesday 17 May 2023, around 8:40 a.m., I saw the posting on one of the doors as I entered showing four different Bahn Mi options. The signature BBQ pork one looked good, so I made my way inside and placed my order. There were two workers behind the counter in the front of the deli, the one who took my order and one who made the sandwich. Both were friendly. The price was $7.00, I paid cash. Other items were on sale by the cash register area as well, though I stuck with just the Bahn Mi. After getting my food I made my way to my car to eat it before heading south to Ballard to get some items as a way of observing Norwegian Constitution Day. The bread of the sandwich was crispy and tore well when bitten into. A hearty amount of the signature BBQ pork was well distributed in the sandwich, so there were not really bites without meat. The meat chunks were a good size and I loved the flavor of the pork. The vegetables were fresh, crunchy, colorful, and flavorful. Sauce lightly coating some of the vegetables and spread on the inside of the bread was enough for its taste to shine without contributing too much of a creamy texture. All around pleased with my first Bahn Mi experience. read more

Wow, i did not think I would find a Vietnamese sandwich place that would rival Saigon deli in Seattle! The banh mi thit nuong is loaded ... there is serious weight to it! The breading was perfection... toasted and does not have that old bread in the fridge toasted taste. The veggies were fresh and bountiful. The pork were good but no grill marks I feel like the Mayo they use is lighter compared to Saigon deli. All in all, their banh mi thit nuong is well put together that strive in all the ingredients. Now the cold cut sandwich, I felt the pate was falling short in deep flavor compared to the one at Saigon deli. It is super hard to decide who will come out on top, will have to do a side by side comparison but Seattle deli Defin dominated the viet sandwiches up north while Saigon deli takes the lead in downtown seattle. Service was friendly and quick, I came before they open and they still made my sandwiches! Prolly standard for a Vietnamese joint. Bun Rieu: delicious crab flavor. there's plenty of noodles and tons of fresh veggies and the pork sausage. a great value for $10.95 Com Suon Ram - pork chop - looks even better than their menu picture. one giant loin chop, bun, tomatoes, steamed egg, and fresh crispy lettuce. the loin chop was tender and well-seasoned. a very good deal at $9.95 Bahn mi: i always order the cold "special". i like that they are very generous with the schmear of pate even if the price has increased to $5. their bread is crispy outside and fluffy inside in the cold case: pate, rice wrapped in bamboo leaves. the cold bun dishes are still available for quick grab and go as well as the refrigerated pate, the chilled desserts and other cold-case items. in the hot case: pate chaud! i like the pastry for this iteration much more than the original pate chaud in the cup-style pastry. there are so many different things to try. the young man at the counter is very helpful and is never too busy to answer any questions. highly recommended if you want to try Vietnamese food that's not pho. read more

Small unassuming place tucked in a corner of a strip mall. Mainly take outs Vietnamese foods, I didn't see any seating for indoor dining. There were a decent selection of street foods wrapped in foam trays for take out, very authentic and interesting. I've only bought Pate Chaud there so far. They're not large but amazingly fabulous tasting, crispy layered pastry with perfectly seasoned pork filling. Tasted just like the ones I used to get at a French bakery in Saigon when I was growing up there! Totally amazing. I'd definitely try other food items there next time. I usually hit this place up for their banh mi. They've raised their prices to 6.50 per banh mi. They've also added a few new dishes to their menu. I had to try their bun rieu cua which is crab tomato soup and ordered it to go for $13.50. Was enough for two meals. I also got a package of banh cuon with basil and cha lua and fish sauce with fried shallots. All this was $34.50. The fact that it lasted me for 5 meals isn't bar at all. They also added a broken rice dish with pork chop and Viet meat loaf as well as bun moc which is a pork meatball noodle soup. Definitely will be back. Thankfully, Seattle Deli is next door, and it's been a great option for reasonably priced bahn mi, spring rolls, egg rolls and the likes. My go to sando here is the pork, which is very flavorful and tender without being dry. And as filling as it is, it's hard to say no to their egg rolls. Such an underrated little spot! First of all, the prices here are a steal: $4.00 for a banh mi, and even less than that for the assorted spring rolls and dumplings they have on the counter. The vermicelli bowls are also good, I think they run about $6. I can get an extremely filling meal for about $12, which would maybe get me a bowl of pho + tax & tip at a Vietnamese restaurant. The food itself is pretty good, especially considering the price. It's comparable to most of the other Vietnamese restaurants in the area, which often serve watered-down food anyways! We liked the banh mi a lot. We got 2 dac biet. It was very good, but no headcheese in it which was a little disappointing. It was still enjoyable nonetheless. We also tried their banh cuon which was good, but the rice roll was just too thick. The filling was good, but just wish the roll was thinner since it would easier to eat. Best Bahn MI in town. The food is really delicious, everything I've gotten here has been really good. There is, unfortunately, inconsistent communication between the staff, it seems. One person offered the option of calling ahead for customizing items to be vegetarian, but when I try to do that, a different person says it can't be made vegetarian. Despite the long conversation about ordering vegetarian items the last person offered. They have other vegetarian options, but they're mostly desserts, and I'm not a big sweets person. I really wish they had more vegetarian options for their noodles and dumplings. This won't stop me from my Bahn MI fix, though. I just wish I could enjoy their other delicious foods and also consistent communication. Ouch - caffeine headache. Seattle Deli makes a really good iced Vietnamese coffee but I feel like I'm playing Russian roulette each time. Half the time I get a headache after drinking one but it's so good...It's only the size of a tall latte but has a strong kick to it. If I drink one I know it's going to be a night owl kind of night! 2 to 3 stars is about right. I purchased 2 different types of banh mi at Seattle deli, the special and the meatball sandwich. There was no option to add an egg on the sandwich. First, the special banh mi was average. It was lightly packed with meat, it had bbq pork which was dry and with my first bite of the sandwich I thought I had bitten into some of the wrapping paper because some of the slices of meat were really dry. The pate and fresh mayo was supposed to balance the dryness of the toasted bread and the meat but it did not do the job. The pate on the sandwich did not taste or look fresh. The other sandwich was a labeled as a xiu Mai or meatball sandwich. It was neither. Please see the photos below. The meat was minced pork packed in a sauce that looked gelatinously spread on the bread. The flavor was okay but it was in No WAY...a meatball. There was no pate and the bread had sprinkles of soy sauce. The bread looked commercial bought and not toasted in house due to The indentations on the bottom of the bread. I came into the deli looking for sandwiches, which I give 2 stars mercifully. The desserts were more 3 stars. Come for the dessert, stay away from the sandwiches. For a much better sandwich, go half a mile north to 200th and aurora and get yourself a 5 star banh mi at rise and shine. I'm so bummed I wasted 10 bucks on these banh mi. I should've spent that money on scratch it tickets and ate those. read more

Confirmed they are operated by the same family, the original owners in the ID retired but a family member that used to run the meat counter took over and opened this operation in Edmonds/Shoreline. Their commitment to authentic bahn mi sandwiches makes them one of the best in the town. They have perfectly baked baguettes topped with quality meats and fresh ingredients.
