This is why I love Yelp. After writing a review I was just poking around seeing what was "hot" in my area and saw a review for Seattle Deli. Couldn't believe I hadn't been as Than Brothers is a frequent place for dinner for us. Told the hubby about the $2.50 sandwiches and it took us less than 24 hours to get over there. I am a big Pho fan, so I still opted for Than Brothers, but the hubby got the BBQ Pork Sandwich AND the Special Sandwich. We also got some eggrolls from there. Seattle Deli is a hidden gem on 99 that lives up to its predecessor in the International District that closed down a few years ago. Confirmed they are operated by the same family, the original owners in the ID retired but a family member that used to run the meat counter took over and opened this operation in Edmonds/Shoreline. Their commitment to authentic bahn mi sandwiches makes them one of the best in the town. They have perfectly baked baguettes topped with quality meats and fresh ingredients. Cash only!! This is a take out place! In my opinion their banh mi's are better than yeh yeh's but not the best I have ever had. I do like that they have a huge variety of Vietnamese dishes! I usually get the bbq pork banh mi, Vietnamese spring rolls, and pork/ egg roll vermicelli dish. I get enough to have some left overs for the next day. Don't recommend the bubble tea or Thai ice tea because it's too powdery and way too sweet! The new owner (couple years or so) has improved the quality tremendously. The baguette on the sandwiches is perfect. They are $5 now but the size is just right. I was stuffed after one. The pork was tender and delicious. read more

This place has delicious bbq pork banh mi, che, and humbao. I love this place because it is decently priced and quick. I never have to spend more than $20 to have a huge meal between 2 people and still manage to have leftovers. The only downside is they only accept cash. read more

And I don't just come here for the Banh Mi, but for the steamed buns and vermicelli dishes as well, which make the perfect lunch or quick dinner on a budget. The Vietnamese Sandwiches here are great, but in a different way than what makes Yeh Yeh's Bahn Mi great. The bahn mi here are more flavorful, the pate is much tastier and more authentic. The size is also more traditional, a balanced amount of meat and veggies, not bursting at the seams, but contained neatly inside the crusty baguette. They ran out of BBQ pork, so we had the chicken bahn mi ($2.25) and the special bahn mi ($2.25). Both were tasty, but the special may not appeal to the masses with it's Vietnamese ham and sausage slices, it's different. Great place for quick, cheap and tasty Vietnamese sandwiches. My church orders their Banh Mi's every so often for community events. They always do a phenomenal job at getting the order to you on time and their portioning is always filling! If you have an event that needs catering, Seattle Deli is the place for you! I highly recommend Seattle Deli for catering orders! Their food, price point, and portions are great and will exceed your expectations. Also, my favorite thing to get here are their spring rolls, egg rolls, and rice/sides! This is one of my favorite lunch spots for grab-n-go. The Banh Mi are $3.00-$3.25, so cheap that when I have extra cash on me, I get a couple extra for any co-workers that may want one. The sandwiches themselves are delicious, my favorite is the BBQ pork. They have many other hot and cold dishes but I love the sandwiches so much I never have room for more food! Their hot dishes looked really interesting, and smelled delicious... I tried the sausage-stuffed tofu with tomatoes and onions, and it was really good. Their meatball hand pie was good too. The dumplings made with tapioca starch were slopping around in a bed of some rather old-tasting oil... Like they used their old fryer oil on them. That was the only thing I tried that I would not get again. The rating is for the service. The lady serving me this morning (10/30 ~9am) was very curt, impatient, and unhelpful even though I was the only customer present. I know I'm really white, but I probably respect your food and culture more than your own kids do. If you don't want my money, just tell me so at the door. read more

The bahn mi here was super good! Well my ideal of super good is a crunchy bread and that's is exactly what they had here. I didn't even eat it fresh and it was still good. The workers there wiped their nose with their gloves and proceeded to prepare banh mi for me! Twice I have witnessed... while wearing gloves, the lady wiped her runny nose with a napkin, used that same napkin to wipe her gloves and proceeded to prepare food for me. I was referred here by a fellow foodie friend. She said they had the best bahn mi's on the planet. She was RIGHT! am ADDICTED to the bbq pork bahn mi. I bought one in the morning for breakfast one day (they open at 8a.m. YAY!). The entire rest of the day I craved another and it was the first thing I thought about the next morning (and returned to get early in the a.m.). Yum! Grilled smoky, salty tender pork, pickled crunchy veggies, cilantro, and spicy jalapenos on a crunchy on the outside/soft on the inside baguette all for only $3.25. I also noticed the green papaya salad on the menu ($4.00), I expected a small cup of salad. This thing was HUGE. Green papaya, shrimp (or you could choose a marinated beef as well), basil, red jalapenos, peanuts and a fish sauce/citrus/savory dressing (DELICOUS). They also have maybe a dozen or more 'hot' choices in their case that looked delicious as well as several choices in a cold case. They also had a few desserts (most of which I am not familiar with). My friend that referred me to this place highly recommends the egg rolls and about half a dozen other hot items; all of which I plan on trying in the next month or two. I walked in at 1:30 pm on 7/5/19, there was nothing in the hot area. And bunch of items on the counter had post its on it that reads- Exp. 7/5/19 1 pm. I asked does that mean these are expired and the worker was like "oh they don't mean anything," Already feeling uncomfortable, I asked the worker which is the ham, but the one he pointed at doesn't look like the ones i normally buy but he reassures that it was the Ham. They catered our multi-family graduation open house! The food was delicious - so fresh, fragrant, and tasty. It was a beautiful spread and Johnathon was amazing. i made it out of here with $4 and some spare change! i wanted that banh mi sandwich thing, but chose the similar sandwich with bbq pork instead on the recommendations of the super-sweet ladies behind the counter. This wasn't the red-skinned, icky bbq pork you find at the grocery store...this had meaty chunks of pork that were akin to juicy chunks of fried bacon. The same fixings that come with the usual banh mi sammies accompanied it. They don't skimp on the fillings, either (i took pictures and posted them, if you want to torture yourself). After perusing their unusual and mysterious pre-packaged food display, i settled upon sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves (or some kind of leaves) that were stuffed with sticky rice, mushrooms, an egg, and sausage. When i unwrapped it at home, i realized that visually, this item was not going to win anybody over. But it was so....good. A little gooey, like mochi, a little salty, warm, with a little eggie sitting inside. The egg's yolk was cooked, but so creamy, it was more like a mousse. Don't be afraid to try stuff here, because it's cheap, and chances are (according to Andrew Zimmern on the Travel Network) that the more disgusting it looks, the better it tastes! Then go next door to the Boohan Market, but a quarter in the instant coffee/milk machine near the bakery items, and get a little, hot steaming cup of pumpkin milk. *joy read more

All the fillings for Bahn Mins at Seattle Deli in Edmonds (Hwy 99) are in a hot display case- Tell them what you want when you walk in and they get to making it. My sandwich has fresh marinated thinly sliced tofu, carrots, dakon, jalapeno, cilantro, mayo, pepper, and spice. The sandwich was large but not as big as places like Yeh Yeh's- which is totally OK. The Seattle Deli sandwich was delicious- one of the best tofu sandwiches so far I have ordered- I am so glad I finally stopped in. By the register, they offer a bunch of Styrofoam syran wrapped to-go items like spring rolls. The shrimp spring roll were too tempting so I added it to them order. The spring rolls were fresh and tasty. I loved the dipping sauce which was a cross between peanut and sweet chili sauce. When my mom told me that there was a Seattle Deli in Edmonds, I couldn't believe it. Having recently moved up north, I missed the quick trips to Chinatown to get my Vietnamese sandwich fix. A few weeks ago, I went and found the new one and ordered a few-the ladies working there were so cheery and friendly; the cashier said that items were 10% off because it was near closing time. Whoohoo! The Edmonds location doesn't have as much as the Seattle location but it's just as clean and has the more popular items. I usually get the sandwiches, spring rolls and soda. Dang, not sure what is up with all the low reviews. This place is legit when it comes to Bahn Mi's and the vermicelli. Also the cafe su da hits the spot. Maybe some of these customers don't quite understand how asian customer service works. Here some advise, walk into the place and know what you want either by looking at the menu or items around you. Stand up close to the register so they can hear you. Place your order straight up and be upfront about it. If you have a special request, make it simple to understand and have cash ready. Beat still my little heart... The barbecue pork bánh mì is simply divine. It's exactly what I have been craving since I worked down the street from a little Viet mom and pop deli in the Genesse area. The bread was a little warm and had a perfect crunch with great chewiness on the inside. The pork, veggies and peppers were well proportioned and all flavorful. The sauce was delish (not a plain mayo) as well. As I drove down the road, I started to get sad that this delicious sandwich was almost gone, I considered turning around to buy another one. Having tried a few more things I thought I'd give an update: The chicken sandwich - good, but only get it if they run out of the BBQ pork. The "special" sandwich - has different types of thinly sliced sauagey type meets, I like all the fresh veggies in it, but the meats are a little questionable. The bubble tea - One scoop of this white powder, another scoop of another, one scoop of ice, hmmm... doesn't sound like a good combination. So beside the fact that they gave me a smoothie (which was way too sweet - I guess too much of scoop number one) when I just wanted a milk tea (okay, let that one go), and they left out the bubbles (not letting this one go because I've got a kid in the car who wants BUBBLE tea, not just tea), they actually made a huge deal out of it when I asked them to put in the tapioca balls, the story goes on but I'll stop and end with, don't get any bubble tea here, they don't know what they are doing. My husband and i stopped in last weekend after an 11 mile run. So, we were starving... We chose two BBQ Pork sandwiches. While waiting, we picked out a freshly packed green papaya salad and tofu summer rolls. With sandwiches, this lunch was more than enough for two people. Best part: It only cost $10.50! Such a deal! And, just delicious!! Everyone there was friendly and the store was just bustling. We admired the colorful desserts and a nice customer told us what each one was. The doors to the kitchen swung open often revealing a clean and busy operation. It's easy for us to get to from Greenwood and I am angling to go back this week for the rice crepes and sticky rice.
