The friendly staff even helped me load the plants into my car. Also ended up buying a Bird's nest fern and a Ring of Fire philodendron. The plants were in a good condition so not sure why there was a markdown. But they are healthy and thriving so no complaints. I also got a really cute fall gnome for $4 on the sale rack. Can't wait to go back for Christmas to spend my reward dollars.

One of my irrigation system lines broke requiring pulling up a small area of pavers to access and repair the broken pipe - meaning the job is pretty small in the scheme of things. I was referred to Green Knight by the folks at Mutual Materials. Scott (the owner) responded came out and assessed situation and quickly said he would fix my pavers on the weekend on his own time. In addition, his bid was exceedingly fair and reasonable. He came out and over the course of a Saturday and Sunday the a super job repairing our paver path. We have used many different landscape firms over the years and I would highly recommend Scott and Green Knight as one of the best.

They know native plants vs. non-natives, what weeds are most important to tackle, etc. * If you don't have a perfect idea of what you're looking to do with your garden, they will take the time to talk with you and walk you through that process. If it's been a while since you last asked them to come by but you don't know what to ask that they do, you can just say "Help!" and they'll do a great job. * They are very respectful when it comes to working with a specific budget and never try to upsell services. * Stefany and the crew are respectful, considerate, and just plain good people. I get a ton of compliments on my garden. I was out getting my mail the other day and two people were walking down the sidewalk and I saw one of them point to my yard and say to their friend "I wish I had a garden like that!" Have to say, it's mostly due to Stefany and the crew's work over the last five years or so!

Throughout our brief relationship, I tried to give these guys the benefit of the doubt, but simple questions were met with the aggressive attitude you see below. Mine is not the only review to indicate this level of unprofessional behavior following service that was incomplete. I definitely do not make a habit of negative reviews (this would be my first and only to date), but I did want to do my best to provide what I feel to be a fair recap of my experience with Essential Gardeners in case any others find it of use. I certainly wish I had paid more attention to the review that was so similar to my experience. I stand by my one star review. I acknowledge that some work was done and therefor did not go down a path of "if I could give no stars..." However there is no part of me that could recommend this company to another.

The consultation was practically the equivalent of hand writing some plant names on a napkin and charging a couple hundred of dollars for that. It was NOT something that another company could run away with by any means. Still, out of trust, we decided to continue down the path because they seemed like nice guys and we had little choice, in fact, even they could not make out their notes or work according to the "plan" they had made only weeks earlier during the project. The price quoted turned out to not be enough to finish the job nor do quite a bit of work on the "plan". While they did extras in other areas it was not the equivalent work. We paid more than we agreed to and they did less. They apologized for this but it still sucks. I've since contacted another landscaping business and learned the bark they got is to heavy for our plants, plants are too far under the roof line, and they even misidentified some of the plants they planted. Not a good experience on any level. When I have inquired to get them to fix their errors I'm repeatedly been met with "we will have to charge you" - if we come by. At first it was, "when we are in the neighborhood" and later it was "this is our rate". No thanks. I'm done trusting these guys. Please learn from our experience. We had recently had a successful home remodel and just didn't do our due diligence with this business because we were riding high after that other experience.

Her designs are thorough and iterative, the plants she recommends and sources are vibrant and aesthetically pleasing, and she is not only fun and easy to work with but has reasonable rates for every price point. Having her design our landscaping provided a blue print we have followed over the years, gave a cohesive vision to our property, and saved us time and effort in the long run. We'd plant a new bush, cut down a dying tree, add flowers, try hostas, arrange grasses, grow beautiful dahlias etc. No matter how much we dwelled on the yard, arranged and rearranged plants, the yard looked terrible. So after years of not quite getting it right, I went on the internet, found Erin Lau and scheduled an appointment. I had to wait about a month for availability in May. When Erin came to our home, I explained what I was hoping to achieve . . . a plan for a yard with street appeal. Erin walked around our yard discussing what we wanted to keep (nothing but the sidewalk) and what we could maintain (water). I then brought Erin a chair and a glass of ice water, so she could sit outside and sketch. After 2 hours, she provided us with a drawing plan that included plant placement, with botanical names/common names. My husband and I lreviewed the plan and could see it made sense. Erin's choices accented our large statuary rocks. She chose hearty clumping grasses, lavenders, sedums and two beautiful red maples that once established would require little maintenance. Out of our jumbled mess Erin designed a cohesive yard that we could still use existing rocks and walkways. My husband and I spent four weekends implementing the plan. Our yard is modern, united, and is appropriate to our fifties brick house. I love sitting in my car across the street admiring the new front yard before I pull into the garage. We've received so many compliments from neighbors and people walking/jogging by. I would highly recommend Erin. She is smart, talented, knowledgeable and easy going. An absolutely wonderful collaboration! On another note . . . we also purchased our plants through her and were satisfied not only with the reasonable prices, but also the health and quality of the plants.

Too many people "just want grass to grow" and they try to spray seeds on top of dead grass. Not gonna happen. Similar with watering... you need to water multiple times a day if you want to grow grass. The crazy thing is, SOD requires the same prep. If your soil is not prepped, then you need to prep the soil. If you're not watering, it won't grow. Long story short I learned all this after my conversations with grassmaster ladies. I did what they told me, yard looks good.

Start to finish they were professional, incredibly knowledgeable, and pleasant to work with. We had three big pieces of our project that many people we met with would have had to contract out (demo of old concrete and fence and structures, building a poured concrete retaining wall and yard leveling, and building a new cedar slat fence), but Nancy and Dave handled everything and all the work turned out beautifully!
