He takes great pride in his work (which is hard to find now days) and is essentially a perfectionist. Jim has years of experience and has the ability to be consultant for you throughout the decision making process. I purchased a brand new home that did not have any window treatments provided by the builder. Jim arrived, measured and surveyed all of the windows, then gave me several recommendations. Jim has a full suite of options including traditional blinds (of all types), window shades (of all types and colors), styles (top down/bottom up, motorized, etc). Jim quoted very reasonable prices that were highly competitive. I ultimately made the choice to do white top down/bottom up shades in nearly every window of the house. Jim even made recommendations on which windows the shades wouldn't be necessary for. He could have easily tried to upsell, but he is honest and very realistic for his customers. Jim's prices were so reasonable that I was even able to do about half of my shades in a motorized format. They are battery powered shades with only one battery in each (which is rechargeable) and only needs to be charged once or twice a year. Additionally, they all sync to an app an also to wireless remote controls. Jim ordered them and it only took a few weeks for them to arrive. Finally, Jim came out and perfectly installed all of them. He walked me through how to use them and how to set-up the motorized shades. They are now on timers and go up, down, and to partially open settings at different times throughout the day. It is really a great set-up and Jim did a fantastic job. There was even one shade that wasn't opening/closing smoothly after install, which Jim re-ordered at no cost. He made another trip back out to install the re-ordered shade and fix it once it arrived. Jim truly does a fantastic job and goes above & beyond.

The day of install, two nice guys were here from 8:30am to 3-ish and the job is complete. The awning is exactly what I wanted aesthetics wise, and is super simple to operate. I got a full cassette with a wind sensor. Now I look forward to using my deck much more. I chose NW Natural Lighting based upon their knowledge, their communication, a nicely detailed estimate, no hard sell or upsell to something unnecessary, and everyone I had contact with at the company was helpful, nice and courteous. Even after 9 months of back and forth, replacements and multiple re-installations not all of our issues are fixed yet. Customer service at the University Village location and quality control by Shade Store are a nightmare. We remodeled a mid-century home designed by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright looking for a well designed, high quality product. Jason Mathews at the University Village Shade Store in Seattle was assigned to work with us. We spent close to $20K on curtains and hardware expecting quality deliverables and excellent service. However curtains and hardware had to be reinstalled despite correct measurements multiple times due to factory errors and incorrect orders by Jason Mathews. Even today despite our complaints there are curtains patched together out of multiple panels indicating a lack of good workmanship and factory quality control. Other larger panels are delivered as a single piece just to note. Overall from order to installation it took us over 9 month to get close to completion. We had to contact the store, i.e. Jason often multiple times to point out discrepancies, issues and ask for replacements. We would like to mention that the installation crews are excellent and very helpful in pointing out deficiencies and errors. Unfortunately this doesn't make the process less painful. We are still waiting for our last issue to be addressed but have low confidence in customer service and their commitment to follow up.

I actually ignore them most of the time but for some reason I…read moreopened the door to this guy... and that's the problem, when you start talking to a really nice person that cares about the state of your roof and can speak intelligently about it---you get sucked in. And so entirely without intending to, a couple nights later, I met with two more really nice men, who came and gave me the lowdown on the status of my roof. Which was not great. I've been doing renovations on my home now since I bought it, but this was by far the most seamless experience. They did everything, even getting the permit that my city needs to replace the roof (which I guess is weird that I need one). All I had to do was take down anything breakable because apparently taking off a roof is a violent and home-shaking process. Every single person I dealt with was service oriented and responsive. They came in like a loud bang-y whirlwind and replaced the roof. Then 2 guys stayed for HOURS, until it was dark, making sure they picked up every single thing around the house, so by the next morning you couldn't even tell they had been there. PRISTINE. Then a day later, Cory and Mark came and installed the gutters. That was definitely a more chill process than the roofing hurricane, and Cory took the time to check in with me and make sure everything was the way I wanted it. Theoretically I shouldn't need another roof for forty years, but for other people that are looking to replace their roof I can unreservedly recommend Polar Bear NW.
